Ford Excursion :: 2005 - Passenger Outer Tie Rod Is Shot / Loose And Won't Tighten
Had the Ex inspected and the passenger outer tie rod is shot. It's loose and won't tighten. I was told I needed an outer tie rod. I feel like this is something I can do, but my question is what else should I replace? While I'm in there I might as well replace whatever may also be worn (or wearing). So what all do I need to replace?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Loose Side Mirror - How To Tighten Up
How to tighten the drivers side mirror? It's rattling around and driving me nuts. It's loose at the pivot point not the door mount. It's the power/folding version. I looked at it but can't figure out how to tighten it. There is a little plastic access panel on the bottom below the pivot but there doesn't appear to be a nut or anything to tighten in there? Maybe I missed it?
View 3 RepliesFord Excursion :: Steering Loose After New Tires And Alignment
My Excursion only has 74000 miles and I just replaced the original shocks with Monroe Reflex and combined with my Goodyear Silent Armor tires was running beautifully. Then after a "deal" from Ford, I replaced the Goodyears with LTX-MS2's and had the alignment checked since my Goodyears did have a little cupping after 45000 miles. They also checked all the front end components and said that everything was in good shape! Upon driving it home, the Excursion steering was extremely loose and I was ready to return the tires and get new Silent Armors, but I figured that there probably was something screwy with the alignment that they just did. So I brought it back, test drove it with the tech at 75 mph and he decided he needed to recheck the alignment. After the realignment, it drove beautifully, but after reading the posts on various forums regarding the proper toe-in on the front, I am questioning whether the alignment is set properly?
After the 1st alignment (in degrees):
LF Camber .3; Caster 3.0; Toe .01
RF Camber -.2; Caster 3.2; Toe -.03
Total Toe -.03; Steer Ahead .02
LR Camber .1; Toe .12
RR Camber -.03; Toe .16
Total Toe .27; Thrust Angle -.02
After the Realignment (in degrees):
LF Camber .3; Caster 3.0; Toe -.03
RF Camber -.2; Caster 3.2; Toe -.04
Total Toe -.07; Steer Ahead 0.00
LR Camber .1; Toe .13
RR Camber -.3; Toe .18
Total Toe .31; Thrust Angle -.03
Ford Excursion :: 2005 - Steering Loose - Not Stable
New to owning a 2005 Excursion Limited 4WD 6.0 Diesel 140k miles.
When I bought the Excursion I had to drive it about 200 miles back home and it was all over the place. The steering seems real loose and when I hit bumps or a large gust of wind comes along the Excursion is all over the road.
I took it to Ford to get an alignment the next day and they said I need new outer tie rods ends, upper & lower ball joints, front shocks, steering stabilizer, locking hubs.
After that I took it to my mechanic who said I did not really need all that stuff done but if I did it I should be set with the Excursion for a long time. I opted to do all of these suggestions because I will be doing a lot of traveling with my family and wanted the peace of mind that all is well. For shocks I put new front and rear bilstein shocks (nothing fancy, I think they were about $80 each, sales rep said they would provide a firmer ride for towing).
After that I took it to another Tire shop for an alignment, they complimented all the work done and said I just need to get used to the steering after coming from a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I took there word for it and headed on a 2k road trip.
I love the Excursion but once again it was all over the place. It seems worse around 65-70 mph, and I found going around 75-85 it would be a little bit easier of a drive until a Semi Truck would go by or I would get stuck in a lot of traffic or hit a lot of bumps.
At first I had a very firm grip on the wheel but quickly learned that a loose grip at around 4 & 8 o'clock on the wheel was best. I talked to a number of other Excursion owners who said there was very smooth and straight.
The way it drives right now does not seem safe.
Ford Excursion :: Loose Wire To Steering Wheel Controls
So I have a loose wire to my steering wheel controls. They don't light up anymore and when I smack the back of the wheel, they will light momentarily. Also, 2 of the radio buttons work intermittently. How do I access them?

I'm not talking about the attachment of mirror to glass, I mean the mirror arm/neck/pole/thing to its base.
It seems like there's a loose Torx screw (is it? I can't see it clearly).
What tool I need? It's out of warranty....
Ford Excursion :: Steering Loose While Cruising Then Feels Tight When Straighten Out After A Turn
The steering on my Ex isn't working like it should. At times it feels loose when cruising then feels tight when straightening back out after a turn... the wander is really bad...
My PS fluid is also turning into a muddy brown goo every 5k... I changed the PS pump this summer with a supposedly good used one...
What should I be looking at/checking for?
Chevrolet - Express3500 :: Constant Pitch Noise - How To Tighten A Loose Serpentine Belt
Actually above + an interesting mystery.. Late last spring I began hearing a noise of constant pitch (sounding like someone sanding wood) when the engine was cold---Louder when it was colder/cooler. As the engine warmed up the noise went away. Throughout the summer,No Noise. n. Late summer broken water pump replaced along with hoses/belts. No noise until, temps in AM in the 40's.
Now that same damn noise is back.Only LOUDER! Same pattern>>as engine warms noise softens and goes away. My ear suggests noise is coming from the tensioner pulley (But, I've been fooled before)As to the question above, Do I tighten the belt on 'This vehicle' using the tensioner pulley or do I have to use the "Pry the Alternator forward" method.? One last thing, while the noise is occurring it does get louder with acceleration but is soon blocked out by normal engine noise.
Saturn - Vue :: Steering And Suspension - How To Tighten The Tilt Mechanism
How do I tighten the tilt mechanism on my 2004 Vue? It kept getting more loose with use, and now it hardly locks in position at all. I took the plastic cover off but the clamping parts look like special tooling needed?

I can't remember how to tighten my power steering belt. I've loosened the 12 mm bolt that locks the PS pump in in place. But how to I increase the tension? This is killing me, because I replaced the timing belt in July. I guess I've since killed the brain cells that I used when i put the power steering belt back on.

My husband was kindly pulling the Ex into the garage for me. I drove it around town today. He came in and He said he pulled it in and turned it off. Then went back to turn it on to pull it in a little farther. When he tried to restart it there was a big "CLICK" and it went all dead. He said the theft light briefly flashed after everything else went dead. Also, aux power such as cig lighters still work. Could it be a fuse?
View 14 RepliesFord - E450 :: Loose Steering / Approximate One Inch Play?
On my Ford E450 Class"C" motor home the steering wheel has approximately a one inch play in it so when I am driving the vehicle tends to wander and constant correction to the steering is required..I tried turning the steering wheel without the power steering engaged, engine off and with it running, engine on, and the vehicle not moving.
In both situations there was the approximate one inch play, and as far as I could tell, without the wheels moving.I had a Ford F350 truck which had the same problem and my local Ford service dealer said that there was nothing wrong. Is this a condition with all Ford steering? What may be causing this and maybe a remedy for this problem?
Ford Excursion :: Grinding / Clunk Noise And General Loose Feeling From Front End
But I'm still getting a grinding/clunk noise and general loose feeling from the front end. The only play I can feel is when I grab the u-joint/knuckle and pull up and down on it. I also noticed the seal at the end of the axle shaft tube is not there on 1 side... would this lack of seal cause the looseness?

2000 f250 with v10, got home from work today, then short time later we were going out again and my steering was extremely loose. Basically you could swing the wheel and it spins around. Power steering fluid was empty and I refilled it but still the same problem. Is there possibility that I'm just not using a thick enough power steering fluid?

Is this the intermediate steering shaft? I just want to be 100% sure that I get the right thing before I buy it, as it's a dealer only part.
