Camry :: Can't Get The Serpentine Belt Loose
I have troubles with what I thought would be a basic job: removing the belt on my 2004 Solara so that I can remove the alternator. I can't get the belt loose enough to slide it off, no matter how hard I try.
The wrench I'm using is about 12" long, I'm a big guy and I've done powerlifting in the past, meaning I can apply lots of strength on that wrench. I've just watched a youtube video of a guy with the same engine removing his belt, and he exerted a lot less effort for a lot more wrench travel. I thought that using a breaker bar is extreme.

I installed a new serpentine belt tensioner into my 1994 Chevy Suburban C1500. It vibrated as much as the old one did, so I assumed that a bit of vibration is normal and forgot about it. Well, after recently looking at some instructional videos, I am now under the impression that any vibration in the tensioner is bad. Here is what is going on -- [UrL] .... Is it OK or should I get another new tensioner?
View 4 RepliesGti - Volkswagen :: 2008 - Constant Whistle Noise And The Pitch Changes With RPM?
I have a 2008 VW GTI which I love and have maintained pretty well. I unexpectedly got a job far away from home and couldn't move for two years (!) so right now it has about 70,000 miles on it (poor thing.) Luckily I now live about 5 miles away from work and it's finally getting a rest.
Long story short is that the oil was overfilled during a routine oil change. Foolish me didn't check the oil before driving away (i didn't do the change!) I got about a mile or two before the oil pressure light and beep told me to shut off the car, which I did immediately, and pulled into a shop literally a block away. They bled out some oil and checked a few things out and everything looked fine. But as soon as I left, and to this day (about a month later) I get a strange whistling noise when the car is cold and at low RPM. It's a constant noise and the pitch changes with the RPM (higher RPM, higher pitch) after warming up for a minute it goes away and doesn't come back until the next time I start the car.
My guess is that oil got somewhere it shouldn't have, like the turbo? And now something is leaking, like air? The car drives fine, no stutters or significant loss of power. Is there a way I can diagnose the issue myself before taking it in? Or should I leave it be and let the professionals take a look?
Chevrolet - Express3500 :: 2000 - No Fuel Pressure After Engine Fire Up?
Vehicle: 2000 Chevy Express 3500 passenger van 5.7L
History: Low fuel pressure when starting. If the van sat longer than 24 hours it wouldn't start without a squirt of starting fluid. I suspected it was the fuel pump but didn't get around to changing it. My wife put in "extra" starting fluid one afternoon and tried to start the van - there was a small explosion which blew up the air cleaner housing and started a fire. She put the fire out with an extinguisher. The fire was restricted to the air cleaner media and housing and burned for about 45 seconds.
Repairs: I cleaned up the extinguisher material and replaced filter housing and media. I checked the fuel pressure at the fuel rail - pressure gauge read zero. I checked the relay and all of the fuses - everything was in good shape. I looked for a fuel cutoff switch but the Chevy tech I talked to said there isn't one on that year of van - he recommended that I disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to reset the system. I did that too. Still no fuel pressure. Replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. Still no fuel pressure.
Current Status: The engine will crank and if I put starting fluid in the van will turn over and run as long as there is starting fluid. When the accelerant is gone the engine stops running. Again, it will crank but there is no fuel pressure at the rail. The manual says the pressure should be 85 lbs with the key on and engine off and then 45 - 55 lbs running.
Cavalier :: 96 Squealing Noise From Serpentine Belt

Can a frayed serpentine belt cause a clunking/grinding noise? The clunking grinding noise has been going on for about 2 months and it goes on and off, Last night it started squealing and I checked the drive belt and it is frayed on the outer edge.
I have a 2005 Prius with 86,000 miles. All of these issues started about 2 months ago, the day after an oil change.
Camry :: Engine Noise - Bad Serpentine Belt Tensioner Is Seized On
After finally identifying a bad serpentine belt tensioner for being the the culprit for my engine noises, my mechanic said that the 'thru-bolt' is siezed. Since the replacement job was at my budget limit he said he doesnt want to get into it in fear that he has to brake the bolt and drill it out (requiring 2-3x more labor cost according to him).
If this is the case, and the 'thru-bolt' is seized, is this in any way something I can make a an effort to tackle? I have a jack and jack stands, and plenty of time.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Noise Coming From Serpentine Belt For Awhile?
A noise has been coming from my Serp belt for awhile. My serpentine belt doesn't have any wear. At least It doesn't look like it. Will this noise go away by replacing it? or is it something else? Is it the tensioner? I've noticed when car warms up the noise goes away. I do not know the last time it was replaced.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Noise Coming From Serpentine Belt Area
There has been a noise coming from the serpentine belt area for some times now, and I thought when I get to work on the belt I will get it fixed.
Last night, I replaced the alternator with a brand new one from idpart with a clutch pulley (the original pulley was plastic). I also replaced the tensioner and serpentine belt with this kit from ECS: [URL] .....
Everything was put back tight and nicely. Turned on the engine: the noise is still there.
For sure there is one pulley on its way out, but with one?

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Serpentine Belt Noise At Idle When Turn AC On
I have a mk4 gli and I'm having a problem with serpentine belt squealing when I'm at idle and when I turn the ac on. It's isn't all that loud at idle but when I turn on my ac it gets real loud. My ac stopped working a little but after this noise started to happen. Could it be possible that it's the bearing in the compressor that is making it squeal or could it be somthing else?
View 2 RepliesHyundai - Sonata :: 2006 V6 - Noise Coming From The Serpentine Belt
Is it time to replace? There is a noise coming from the belt and when I listen with the hood up my best guess is that it's the tensioner. I'm not sure if it is easy to replace or if that is even the problem. The belt looks fine. It allows me to twist it barely less than halfway so to me it does not seem loose. But in the rain last week got the battery light and lost power steering, power brakes, etc, then it went back to normal and hasn't failed again since. The car has 131,000 miles.
Is there a way to check the tensioner? It's pretty tight in there. Or am I wrong as to what the problem is? The sound is a rubbing/slight clicking sound that is in time with the engine and you can hear it if you listen inside the car when the engine is on. The belt also seems to wander around on the tensioner just a little. One day it was about a mm in too much, a few days later, a few mm out, in relation to the pulley.
Chrysler - Voyager :: 2002 - Screeching Noise - Serpentine Belt?
I have a 2002 Chrysler Voyager with 135000 miles and in good shape. My mechanic has replaced the serpentine belt 3 times in the last 24 months each time using a different manufacturer. The last time was <6 months ago. The tensioner pulley was replaced 10 months when the screeching noise returned as it has each time the belt is replaced. The other pulleys all seem to work fine. I use a small fingernail sized dab of NAPA's "Sil-Glyde" lubricant on the underside of the belt every 150-200 miles. I will use it more frequently if it has rained recently.
-AC works fine and is not associated with this screeching
-PS pump works fine and shows no leaks. Rack has been replaced. PS fluid system flushed and filled with new fluid.
-Alternator runs fine
Golf V R32 :: Low Grinding Noise Coming From Area Of Serpentine Belt
So, when I was leaving work I started my car up and heard what sounds like a low grinding noise coming from the area where the serpentine belt is. Let the car idle and it remained.
Put the car in gear and drove off and the sound was still there. the sound gets louder as I increase my speed. It went away a couple of times when I was braking, then came back.
I stopped at the gas station and could still hear it. After getting gas, fired the car back up and heard nothing. When I drove off, the sound returned.
I got home and put it in park, leaving the car on, opened the hood and could still hear the noise. Pressed and held the gas a few times and the sound did get louder.
I am pretty sure it is coming from some rotating part, but no clue what part. What this could be?
recap:
-get noise on startup
-while driving noise gets louder
-sometimes it stops when braking
-sound coming from area of serpentine belt
Corolla :: 2005 - Serpentine Belt Making Noise At Cold Start
I was wondering because serpentine belt is a big thing for 05 corolla since everything runs on it. View 3 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Noise On Cold Startup Coming From Serpentine Belt
I have a '06 sonata 3.3 v6. Let me first describe what was happening to the car before the noise started. When I first started the car and put the ac, the first time turning the steering wheel in either direction the steering wheel would tighten up and the battery indicator light would come on and the fasten seatbelt light would flash even though I had the belt fastened. It would only happen the first time I would make a turn and after that I could turn with no problem. So in recap, it would only happen on the first turn and only when the ac was on. Now when I start the car up there is a noise coming form the pulley/belt area. I wouldn't classify it as a squeaking noise more like a grinding. I've looked at the belt and it seems to be fine. After I start to drive the car the noise goes away. If I start the car again after a drive within about 2 hours the noise doesn't happen when I start it. What this noise could be? and also could the noise and the steering wheel tightening when the ac is on be connected?
