Passat (B5) :: AC Compressor Seized After Tune-up

I recently had a full tune up at 87,000 miles. My receipt does not mention any inspection of the A/C system. 50 miles after the tune-up, my A/C compressor seized. Dealer claimed this was simply coincidence. I think there is a chance that they checked the A/C Coolant level and may have not secured the valve. I cannot find on the internet evidence that this compressor is prone to failure at just 3 years (87,000 miles).

Subaru - Impreza :: 2009 - AC Compressor Seized

My ac compressor has seized up and now needs to be replace at a cost of nearly 2,000. Maybe I can go a few weeks with out it, but I will not be able to have heat or defrost as the colder temps come in for the fall. Why this would happen? 109K on the odometer. The mechanic also suggested that I change the timing belt and the water pump (neither are broken) replacing these is also expensive. am I crazy for not changing the timing belt and water pump?

Passat (B6) :: Battery Light On - AC Compressor Seized

The car is an '06 Passat 2.0T 83k. A few weeks ago my wife came home complaining that the battery light was on, when I lifted the hood I saw that the belt was shredded and later realized the compressor seized. I replaced the parts recommended; Compressor, condenser,etc., brought it to service station that does our fleet cars and had the system vacuumed and recharged. Now the compressor will not turn on, when I push the button on the dash it lights up but no a/c, the fans dont even come on comes on. The blower and all the related switches works but no power to the compressor. All the fuses are fine, and when the guy at the service station put power directly to compressor it comes on and works fine, he also said the pressure sensor/switch checks out fine. I even changed the controller on the dash, but nothing.

Ford A/C :: Clutch Started To Smoke - Compressor Seized?

I just bought a 96 f250 5.8

Upon driving home, i tried the ac again and the ac clutch started to smoke. I replaced the clutch with one from autozone, but when I tried it again, it made a screaming death noise upon clutch engagement. Is my compressor seized?

I tried to turn the clutch (not the pulley, that spins fine) by tapping one of the slots and bolts with a screwdriver/hammer. It was firmly locked in place. If the compressor was OK, would it have turned easily? If I need to replace the ac pump, who sells a good/cheap/reliable one?

Subaru - Forester :: 2001 - Timing Belt Slip Out / AC Compressor Seized Up?

I have a 2001 Subaru Forester which has 165K miles. I had the timing belt changed at 105K per maintenance recommendations. I had the car in for service recently for brake pads, etc., and the dealer recommended replacing the drive belt for the AC.. which I did. 100 miles after this service, the car broke down unexpectedly. The dealer told us the AC compressor seized up... and this caused the drive belt to get caught on it and be shredded ... and with that, the sudden resistance from the drive belt on the crankshaft pulley caused the timing belt to slip out of sync and damage the interference design engine. Can that really happen? I surprised that this happened a few days after replacing a drive belt and wondered if somehow the service work done with the drive belt could have caused the problem. The dealer states the service work did not cause the problem. Is my recent service and damaged engine a coincidence as the dealer said or are they related?

Honda - Odyssey :: 2009 - Oil Changed / Engine Seized Up And Car Stopped Dead

Got my oil changed on my 2009 Honda Odyssey at one of those cheap places. They also changed the air filter. Four miles later my engine seized up and the car stopped dead. I called them and they came right out. I did not watch them check the oil. They claimed it was full of oil and tried to start the poor thing about 20 more times--each time with my engine jumping and sounding terrible. I had it towed to their shop where they told me this morning that the van is running fine and "there must have been an air pocket in the throttle body". Is this BS? What do I do now? I have two kids and I can't afford to have another roadside drama. Is the engine going to blow up on me in a month? I have not yet picked up the van from the shop.

Honda - Accord :: 2003 - AC Went Out / Bad Compressor

AC went out on 2003 Honda Accord with 120k miles. Mechanic checked and found bad compressor. Do they usually go bad after 8 years or that mileage? (I live in humid hot South, so AC gets used a lot.) Putting in a used compressor costs $470 with labor, 6 month guarantee, versus new compressor for $700 with labor, 12 month guarantee. Since it's the start of summer, a 12 month guarantee doesn't much more. But will used compressor last for another 5-8 years or 100k miles? When new (or originally in the car) how long do they usually last?

Civic - Honda :: 1996 - A/C Compressor Smoking

I just bought a 96 civic. The seller said he used the ac last year, after they charged it, with no problems. The ac was not cold now. I have the filling cable that only goes on the low pressure side. We turned the car and the ac on. I noticed that he had been driving the car with the ac turned on even though it was not cold. I connected the hose and it read 0 psi. It began to fill and you could tell it took some Freon nicely, maybe an ounce or 2, then, the compressor behaved like it was working real hard, the engine began working hard, the belt squealed for a minute, then stopped, the compressor began to smoke. The smoke was coming from between the compressor housing and the pulley. It smelled like the “I just burnt up my engine smell”, shortly after I began filling the low pressure read in the yellow range of the gauge. It did take some Freon in the normal range. I would like to mention that last summer I had used the pag 100 oil charge which some had been sitting in the fill hose all winter, don’t know if this makes a difference but I thought I should mention it

Civic - Honda :: 2007 - New Compressor Whistling?

So I had my AC go out in my 2007 Honda Civic coup and being a cheap guy, didn't want to pay the mechanic 1200-1300 bucks to fix it and all the peripherals (condenser, desiccant, expansion valve, hoses.....) So I bought all of the stuff myself (Reman compressor) and took it to a mechanic buddy that owed me a favor. We took out the compressor and checked the movement of the pulley wheel and it moved freely. He informed me that it was just the clutch on the compressor that was bad and the rest of the stuff didn't need replacing.

So we swapped out the new for the old compressor put it all back together charged it and glorious cold air blew in abundance. Once I hit the road, I noticed a whistling sound that occurs while accelerating through about any speed. It is not a belt squeak and it's not the "whistling between 40-50 mph" like the service bulletin on the 2006-2008 CR-V. It occurs as low as 20 mph and up to 80 mph. My questions are these: is this a symptom of a problem which needs attention? and: What did my buddy do wrong?

Honda - Odyssey :: 2006 - AC With No Cold Air / Compressor And Clutch?

My 2006 Honda Odyssey lost the a/c last week. No cold air. After troubleshooting myself, I took it to the shop I use and they came up with it being the compressor clutch. But you can just replace the clutch, so a new compressor. My question is... What's a good price for this repair? In this vehicle the compressor replacement requires the alternator, etc... To come out first before you can even get to the compressor. So, I'm not really excited enough about it to do it myself. Which I think could, except for the discharging the refrigerant.

Honda - Cr-v - Clutches - Airconditioning :: 2002 - AC Compressor Plate Fell Off

While driving my 2002 Honda CRV (155000 miles) to work yesterday, I noticed the AC was working intermittently. Soon enough, I heard a loud clunk under the car and noticed a part had fallen into the street. I circled back and picked it up. After a bit of research I figured out it was the AC Compressor clutch plate. After doing more research I noticed that early Honda CRVs are known for having AC problems - and mine is not the first clutch plate to have fallen off.

My questions are as follows:

Is there any harm in (trying) to reinstall the clutch plate?

Does the fact that my clutch plate fell off mean something else is wrong (e.g., the compress has frozen up)?

If the compressor is bad does 'black death' always occur?

Finally, if I am going to replace the compressor. Do you recommend I just get an AC kit (compressor, condenser, drier, etc.)

I know this isn't an easy repair, but I think I can handle it with my father. That old fart can fix anything!
