Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Low Ground Clearance And Hard Suspension Set Up
I just purchased my first Toyota Matrix We live on-top of a mountain with a 1+ mile rough gravel road leading to our house and I didnt quite think about the low ground clearance and hard suspension set up when I purchased the Matrix It looks like the regular Matrix has softer springs and more ground clearance then the (S) model Is it relatively straight forward to switch out the suspension and would it give me more ground clearance.
View 2 RepliesElantra MD (2010-15) :: Smoke Coming Out Of Right Rear Wheel - Brakes Dragging
Well this makes the 3rd time I am going to have to take my car into the dealer because of the right rear brakes. I had a guy pull up to me yesterday and tell me that I had smoke coming out of my right rear wheel, I pulled over nd the rotor had a slight blue glow to it and the caliper was smoking. This is starting to get old, I wonder when the lemon law kicks in on something like this?

View 19 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Traction Control Light Came On When Trying To Get Up Incline / Smell Like Tires Burning
I just drove my Prius through 8-10 inches of heavy wet snow. The car did amazingly well. At times my traction control light was on when trying to get up an incline until the car got going. Then when I got home I stopped in my driveway for the garage door to open and started into the garage. The car was stuck, but then the light came on and the car climbed the driveway in about 10-15 seconds and made it in the garage. I then noticed a smell like burning tires. Maybe it was the tires from spinning. I hope that I didn't hurt my transmission or another component. Does the Prius protect itself if it is stuck and the traction control light is on from overheating something? I think I recall that the 2nd generation Prius would not allow for wheel spin to protect the traction battery.
View 5 RepliesPrius (Gen 3) :: 2011 - Front End Seems Low With A Small Clearance
Having trouble scraping the bottom of their car entering driveways or shopping centers with entrances that slope up. Even when properly turning the wheels so as not to back out of a driveway straight I have on several occasions in the past year scraped the bottom front of the car. A minor scrap on the engine compartment splash cover does not bother me. Nor does scraping the bottom of the front splash guards. But last week I had to turn around in someone's driveway which did not appear to be a problem.
Entering was not a problem but as I backed out I was careful to turn back out on an angle but still managed to hid the bottom of the front bumper on the driver side. Of course it left a small scrape and took the paint off. It's only slightly visible from the front edge as it is underneath the bumper where it wraps underneath. It's annoying but the front bumper of the 2011 prius does seem relatively low in comparison. Now I'm thinking about touching this up, having it spot painted professionally, or applying some flat protective applique along the bottom front edge of the front bumper if there is such a thing. Everyone seems to be worried about the rear bumper protection.
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: RPM Shoots Up On Incline
I like to keep my RPM at 2K while driving on the highway and always drive 62-63 mph. But when there is a slope the rpm instantly changes to 2.5K or higher. At first I thought it was downshifting. But when I slid the clutch to the right I still saw it was at the 6th gear. If I need to bring the RPM back to 2K the speed has to be reduced to around 45 mph which is not safe. I wouldn't mind the higher RPM for short stretches except the horrible ride noise (like a sports car). The surprising thing is the behavior is not consistent. Sometimes it keeps the lower rpm even on an incline. Is this the natural behavior of this car) none of my previous cars with bigger cylinders used to do this).

View 2 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: Fluid Leak On The Ground In The Rear Of Truck
I have an 04 F150 5.4. Anyway drove truck about 200 miles this weekend. When I got back home, unloaded truck, noticed a fluid leak on the ground in the rear of truck. Upon further inspection, appears to be leaking from where the driveshaft meets the rear axle...looks like there's a gasket or yoke in the rear of the U joint? a little fluid dripped down and ran down to the lower portion of the "pumpkin" and made a quarter size oil patch in front of my house.
I would have definitely noticed such a stain before, since I park in the same spot at home and work every day. I drove to work today (14 miles) and looked under the truck for 15 minutes after I parked, don't see any drip, but do see remnants of a leak all over the front part of the rear axle. No way has any fluid leaked on the ground before, I 100% would have noticed a stain.
Thoughts on a fix for this? I had the clutch packs redone about 3 years ago under warranty, truck has 88k miles. No shudder when I drive from the rear axle, I'm assuming there is fluid in the rear gears, as a substantial leak I for sure would have seen on the ground. leak is 100% NOT coming from the seal on the rear axle, but in front of it where the shaft meets the axle. Possible that driving on the highway at 75MPH for 2 hours straight caused this leak, as my drive to work is mostly stop and go, both ways.
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Ground Wire Rear ABS Speed Sensor?
So when it rains sometimes my ABS will go off till I drive it down the road a bit... Where is the location of the ground wire for this thing? I've checked up under it and no wires are cut or burnt... just wonder where this thing grounds to... if I can find that I may be able to clean it and fix the sensor.... because something makes me believe the sensor isn't bad, because some times it works for a half mile or so... before it goes back on.

View 2 RepliesToyota - Highlander :: 2005 - Dragging Or Grinding Noise From Rear Brake
I have a 2005 Highlander that had repeated rear brake noise problem after the dealership serviced the brake in May this year. The sound was like dragging or grinding. After that, I brought my car back but the noise came up every time in 3-7 days. Here is the of the service record from the dealership:
5/31/2011: initial maintenance. Rotor resurfaced, pad replaced
6/17/2011: Adjustment and lubrication.
7/13/2011: Replaced the pad.
8/20/2011: Technician could not hear the noise during drive test. Ticket withdrawn.
8/26/2011: Tighten e-brake, lubrication.
Tech told me the left and right brakes were not balanced. I recorded the noise in the following Youtube video: [URL] .....
Turn volume up and notice the last two stops. What I should say to the dealership service? I plan to take the car back in a few days.

View 10 RepliesJetta - Volkswagen :: 2003 - Rear Wheel Making Metal Scraping / Dragging Noise
Background: 2003 jetta; just changed rotors and pads on rear wheels a month ago, they are disc brakes
So the other day I was driving in a school zone at about 20 mph when I heard a VERY loud sound, like I'm dragging metal. i might also describe it as two rusty metal plates being rubbed against each other, but really really loud.
The noise is related to speed, it sounds cyclical and speeds up as the wheel turns faster. It occurs when I am NOT braking.
I parked the car and came back to it a few days later move it and the sound disappeared for the first 100 feet and then came back.
We did 2 things - we changed the caliper, and we also noticed that a caliper bolt was missing. I am pretty sure the noise was coming from that missing bolt - i think the caliper became dislodged and was making contact with the rotor. The caliper also seemed to be dragging a little bit so we went ahead and changed it too.
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Driver Side Rear Sounds Like Brakes Are Dragging Against The Rotor
Went and got new tires on the supercrew. Went going through parking lots or simply driving i hear a loud squeal like brake pad squeal. I put brand new wagner ceramics on the truck. Also if i turn to the left the driver side rear sounds like brakes are dragging against the rotor. Whats goin on with this. The squeal will happen between 10 mph to 20 mph and the grinding noise will happen if I am cruising or turning to the left. It goes away when i apply the brakes.
View 1 RepliesFord Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Driver Side Front And Rear Brakes Dragging Bad
Truck is 2007 6.0L 4 door F-250 FX4
So this started after some High water encounters around my area. All freshwater. Went to the store and then i notice the truck pulling Left and got home and checked brake temps and the driver front and rear were over 400*F passenger side was 150* or less. No trailer no load in the bed. I decided to clean everything. Pads are worn but still have life.
Rotors showed some signs of where the pad is dragging Not bad though just a small area close to the top hat. I cleaned pads, carriage, and clips and reinstalled everything with some anti seize on the edges of the pads where the clips are and at the same spots on the carriage.
Thought it was ok but the after more water and a day or two sitting the same thing happened again. It is only the drivers side and it's both front and rear. I am stumped on this one. Two calipers going bad at once? I need to tow a boat on Monday So I have got to fix this.

View 7 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Acceleration Literally Slipping When Going Too Fast On Incline
I was driving yesterday in a hurry to get to a wedding… I suddenly found myself going up an incline of perhaps 20 degrees at 80mph impossible…the car would stop accelerating like a belt was slipping, the sensation was that the car would try to go but couldn't and would catch and pick up a bit then slip… I had to take it down to 55 and even then had some slippage. I had told my dealer about this concern in the past and told everything was fine. Last time I was at the dealer they said i needed a serpentine belt replaced… Could this be causing the issue? It's likely the transmission/cvt/psd... I honestly thought my car was going to die, but managed to make it back with almost no issue on the way home going 80 without inclines. is this even an issue or am i just pushing my car too hard??
