Ford Excursion :: 2003 - Driveline Vibrations Mainly On Highway Speed And When Slightly Press On The Gas
I have posted several times about my 03 Ex and it's driveline vibes- mainly highway speed and when slightly on the gas... Took it to a local 4 wheel drive shop that specializes in lifts. They jacked it up and I ran the X up to highway speed with the rear in the air. It was amazing how rough it is, even at 55mph. I hardly feel it in the vehicle at that speed while driving.
Anyway, they felt the vibration but where it is coming from. They said pinion angle looked fine and since I have a retubed driveshaft and rebuilt rear, they ruled that out. The owner has an 04 with a 6 or 8" lift and 37's and seems to know about Excursions.
I then took it to the local Ford dealer and had the service manager drive it. He strongly feels it is gear mesh with the ring and pinion. I am not totally convinced as the rear is quiet, gear wise. For that matter, my slip yoke has quite a bit of torsional slop, likely as much as the backlash on the ring and pinion but the driveshaft shop said that it is acceptable.
Ford Excursion :: Driveline Clunk When Going Over 40mph And Letting Off / Reapplying The Accelerator
I've got a pretty nasty driveline clunk when going over 40mph and letting off and reapplying the accelerator. The way I'd describe it is: when I let off, it feels like something clunks forward, and when I get back on it, it feels like it clunks backwards.
So far I've had the U-joints replaced, replaced the tranny mount, greased the slip-yolk several times, and just changed the rear diff oil (and found no broken teeth or excessive wear in the gears) and it still does it.
Since I don't have a sig:

5" RC Lift (but the clunking was present before the lift)
Ford Excursion :: Exhaust Vibrating At 70 Mph?
Well it's been a while since I have been here. My Ex has started a vibration in the front but I don't feel it in the steering wheel. I feel it in the floor board on my feet. It also makes a sound with the vibration. Kinda a thumping sound but not really. If that makes sense. I plan on putting it up on jacks this weekend and checking the front. I'm wondering if it is a hub stuck in locked portion and spinning the axle. I did use 4wd not too long b4 I noticed it.

My '01 Excursion gets a vibrating noise between 70-75mph. I've located it to the 2nd row drivers side seat. Only does it when it's in the upright position. I can hit the seat and have it make it briefly. But I can't locate the cause.

Front caliper replacements--fwd? Person I bought this from said they'd just relined the brakes before I got it. After having it a week, I randomly checked torgue on lug nuts...a whopping 80 ft lbs. So now I have the vibrating rotors. When I back up I hear scraping like a bad set of bicycle brakes against an out of round rim. The pads are pretty thick. I bought new rotors and pads but I wonder if I shouldn't get calipers as well. This X likes to bite me in the butt--something simple is always about 5 times more complicated than anticipated.
View 1 RepliesFord 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Front Driveline Has Tiny Bit Of Slop Where Splines Go Into The Yoke / Rattling
While chasing rattles I found my front driveline has a tiny bit of slop where the splines go into the yoke. (There is a bellows seal there just like the rear driveline so I am assuming it is a splined shaft into a yoke). Pounding on it with my fist there is a definite rattle and grabbing both halves you can feel a slight bit of play while twisting it back and forth. The rattle sounds a lot like the one I am hearing when I hit small bumps. Is this normal or should there be zero slop in that joint? By the way the u joints feel and look solid.
View 3 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2005 Excursion Started Vibrating When Getting On The Highway
So, on my way home from checking out a house all of a sudden the truck started vibrating when getting on the highway. Then it got worse quickly. So I pulled off at the next exit and pulled into a parking lot, the truck shuddering badly any time I pressed the fuel pedal. Had it towed to my local Ford dealer. I'm thinking torque converter/transmission, but I freely admit I don't know. Here's what I think is pertinent info-
1. I bought it at 84k miles, now 122k. Oil changed every 5k, fuel filters every 10k, coolant every 20k, trans fluid every 20k. Don't kmow what was done first 84k miles before I bought it.
2. Driveshaft rebuilt one year ago. Both fr and rr diff fluids changed a few months ago, along with transfer case fluid.
3. When in park or neutral engine revs perfectly smooth. When placed in gear and fuel is added it starts to shudder, getting worse as revs go up. Does not vary with road speed, only with engine speed and load into transmission.
4. There are no codes at all. All temps were normal. Engine oil and trans fluid level normal.
5. A few months ago when coming home from a trip I suddenly had the same symptoms about 3 miles from home, but not as bad as today. Made it home taking it easy and went to bed. I was exhausted from a long day of driving and when I test drove the truck the next morning to check it out it was smooth as could be, so I thought maybe I imagined it. Symptoms did not reappear until today, a few months and several thousand miles later.
Passat (B5) :: 2003 - Low Frequency Driveline Noise Started At About 35 Mph
I have been recently working on a 2003 1.8T fwd Passat that I have owned since new. I recently changed the front rotors, pads and CV axles. At low speed everything is great. No vibrations or unusual harshness. Starting at about 35 mph a low frequency driveline noise starts from the driver side and starts to get drummed out by engine noise above 60 mph. The noise is not very noticeable from the passengers seat. Initially I suspected a tire, but I swapped tires front to back and the noise didn't change. I have tried loading and unloading the front tires in 45-50 mph s-turns and the noise doesn't change.( I was thinking wheel bearings). I put the car back up on stands and tried hand spinning the wheels. No unusual noise was present. I have not found any clearance issues where there might be something rubbing. I got the axles from Raxles and am at a loss. Could this be a wheel bearing or a bad CV joint? How can I tell?

I was pulling out of my driveway (it's quite steep) in 4x4, turned onto the road and heard a clunk.
I then took it out of 4x4 and continued on. I noticed it was vibrating more than usual. I turned out of a friends driveway (not in 4x4) after that and thought I heard another clunk. The vibrations seemed to get a lot worse after that.
Ford - Focus :: 2003 - Vibrating And Struggling When Pressed The Gas
I drive a 2003 Focus ZX5. Over the last year, it's run pretty well, but one problem I encountered was that it would not start (occasionally) if I drove in traffic for a while and the engine was warm (not overheated). I mentioned this to my mechanic when the serpentine belt was replaced several months ago, but he was not able to repeat the problem and diagnose it. A couple days ago, the car started to run terribly (vibrating) and struggling when I pressed the gas. I took it to the nearest mechanic (not my normal mechanic) and had the spark plugs and ignition coil replaced. It seems to have alleviated the problem. So . . . a couple questions:
Was the engine's difficulty starting related to the spark plugs?
On a separate note, the mechanic I just saw advised that some of the vibrations (for instance, in idle) could be resolved with new motor and transmission mounts, which is not cheap. Is it worth it?
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2000 - Drive Line Vibrating?
t's a '00 extended cab swb 4.6L with 4r70w trans. I have a Hotchkis TVS 2/4 kit on it. It's been lowered 3 years now and I've never had any real issue. But I started noticing a small vibration through the floor so I took my driveshaft out to be balanced and new U joints installed. Ever since then I've had an audible "hum" from the rear whenever I go over 75mph. It only does this under load (hill, etc) and I don't hear anything until then. The driveline shop told me it was my pinion angle and I've tried shims with only slight improvement. I'll replace the driveshaft after I do a motor and trans swap down the line, but it's out of the budget for now.

2001 F-150 4.2L automatic, 189k mikes. Gas pedal would do weird knocking/vibrating. It would do it at idle & under acceleration. Gas pedal would knock & sometimes slightly move or kick back at you. Felt like someone was lightly hitting it with a small hammer. Well there is not much to the gas pedal assembly; pedal, throttle cable & mounting bolts/plate. Looking under hood, a bracket from drivers side of motor was pushing back against firewall, which was pushing into gas pedal mounting bolts. I grabbed the bracket & it came off motor. Nothing else attached to bracket. Looks like it rusted off and was pinned between motor & firewall. Well, this fixed the gas pedal problems. But now i wonder what the bracket is & whats it suppose to hold??

I have been having some major issues with my truck!

What could be causing this? I already replaces Fuel filters.
Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Front End Rebuilt - Hopping And Vibrating At Any Speed Or RPM
I recently (1month ago) rebuilt my entire front end. The only things that were not replaced are track bar, steering box, front driveshaft, and sway bar bushings. I'm having the same issues that I had before the rebuild. It just feels like the front is is on basketballs. Hopping and vibrating at any speed or rpm. On a smooth road or on the highway it feels like I'm hitting bumps that aren't there.

I've got a loud, intermittent, swooshing, vibrating noise from the front left wheel area at highway speeds. Hubs are Warn Premium (gold) and unlocked. Unit bearing already replaced. What could it be?

I had the glow plugs replaced yet had to go back to the repair shop three times since because it threw a code each time. No codes now just rough shaking and vibrating start for about 5min (without plugging in block heater) or so then once warmed up she runs great.
View 7 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: Driveline NOT Binding In 4WD?
I've had occasional issues the last year getting my 04 into 4WD, but at 270K on the original IWE actuators, that's probably to be expected.
I had new actuators ready to install, but took the truck out for a drive before doing the job. On a gravel road the back tires spun easily in 2WD, I switched over to 4wd and it was much harder to spin the tires- you could tell it was in 4WD- or at least seemed that way. I left it in 4WD and tried turning on a tar road and it didn't seem like it was binding at all. (I have an open diff in the rear, assume the front is the same?)
Anyway, I installed new actuators last night and took it out for another drive afterwords. I put it in 4WD and could IMMEDIATELY feel the binding when turning.
What I cant figure out is why I could NOT feel binding while in 4WD prior to the install. Could I have been in 3WD somehow? (04 Super Crew, Automatic, 4.6L, XLT- pretty basic pickup...)...
