Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Play In Steering Wheel / Loose Front End Suspension Parts
I have a '99 F250 w/ PSD with 165k miles.
When I drive, I move the steering wheel and nothing happens for the first few degrees of turn and then I encounter resistence and it turns. It's the same either way. The vehicle seems to track nicely, doesn't pull to either side, just a lot of slop in the steering wheel.
Is there a way to determine if this is really steering related or is it just loose/worn front end suspension parts making themselves known? My guess is suspension items, but the fact the front end behaves itself when the truck is moving has me doubting that just a bit.
Prius (Gen 2) :: 2005 - AC Compressor Replaced 3 Times With New Toyota Parts In 6 Months
The 2005 Prius I bought has had the AC compressor replaced 3 times in about 6 months with new toyota parts, the repair shop told the man I bought the car from not to bring it back there anymore they cant find the problem and toyota will not replace the compressor again for free...I guess 2 replacements is their limit.
The AC blows warm and Im not sure how to tell if the compressor is working or not, the inside fan works on all speeds, the fan by the radiator comes on but is VERY loud....of course I don't leave it on, only for testing to try to find the problem.
Where to look or why this car is burning up compressors.
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Replaced Many Parts / Rebuilt Engine But Got Codes P0345 / P0022 Again?
I'm having the well known situation with P0345, P0022
Replaced both phasers, replaced cam sensor, checked timing (properly aligned), assembled back still running rough and rattling, used 10w40 oil,
Complete rebuilt engine, we did head work new seals and springs, valves are straight I had it checked out twice for assurance. New pistons, new rings, new bearings, new oil pump and seals of course. If I disconnect cam sensor Bank 2 it works fine but still runs a little rough.
- Replaced one tensioner due to gasket wear.
- I was told to check on alternator ground (it's missing I know cause it got broken and I haven't replaced that ground that goes into the engine.)
- I also was told change oil to 5w20 and filter (Not FRAM), add some lucas and it should be the fix.
- Also told to disconnect the oil pressure sensor and it would fix the problem but it will throw a code for that.
- I haven't replaced the timing chains I feel they're a little loose but they haven't jumped the teeth, so I guess they're good.
- I saw in one thread to move a teeth on phaser giving me code bank 2 (moved one teeth back and then one teeth forward but it didn't work)
When I first rebuilt the engine I was having the rough iddle then I scanned it and it gave me the cam positioning sensor code P0345, then after I replaced it problem got fixed and code was gone, I was using the truck for 2 days with no issues, then the problem cam back with the two codes P0345 and P0022!
Jeep - Cherokee :: 1994 - Steering Making Noise
My 94' Jeep cherokee 4.0l 2wd has had an issue that the steering over the course of several years has get some play in it now. It also makes sounds as documented in the video. I should also note it doesn't seem to do it when it's warm, but when it gets around 50ºF or lower the problem is there. [URL] ....
View 2 RepliesCamry :: 2009 SE V6 / Front End Clunking After Several New Parts?
2009 Camry SE V6
103,000 miles
New Monroe OESpectrum struts installed by Sears Auto in July, with new alignment. Original springs were not replaced.
Soon after I heard a clunk. Sears tightened a strut mount a week later. Clunk went away.
New Kumho Ecstas installed and balanced a week later.
Still hearing clunk sounds from front end, take it back to Sears to inspect the struts and suspension. They tell me struts must be removed and inspected. They ended up not removing the struts but they replaced the sway bar end links and bushings, which they said were in bad shape. Steering is a bit tighter now.
Im still hearing clunk sounds from front end. Now theyre louder. I get a clunk every time I brake in traffic or a parking lot. I also get a clunk when the car goes over a bumpy road without brakes applied. So doesnt appear related to brakes, calipers, and whatnot.
I can feel the clunk in the steering wheel. Sounds like two loose parts rubbing against each other which shouldn't be rubbing against each other.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Front End Clunks Even After All New Parts
It was the sway-bar bushings... Now with all the new parts up front and the bushings it rides better than new. Case closed.
I replaced the following
- Struts (shocks, springs, mounts)
- Control arms (bushings, ball joints)
- End links
And i still have clunks from the front end and now magically my left outer CV boot is ripped!
Cherokee :: 96-XJ 4WD - Clunking Noise From Front On Driver Side
started to get a clunk noise, it would correct itself if i kept driving but now it seems to last longer.

I got a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT v6 and it starts humming after 40 mph and then the steering wheel shakes too...
View 3 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Vibration Felt In Steering Wheel / Humming Sound Coming From Driver Side Front
I have a 2003 F150 manual 4WD with 4.6L engine and 165000 miles. When i am driving i feel a vibration in the steering wheel and on floor board that intensifies when i press the accelerator. I do hear an irregular humming that sounds like it is coming from the driver side front. I checked the wheel for any play but it was very tight. i check tie rod ends, ball joints no play. i recently changed both u-joints on the rear shaft and the bearing hub on the passenger side front. Also, the steering feels a little 'wobbly' when i make sharp turns. it almost feels like it is giving. What else should i check?
View 1 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Front Humming Noise?
My car (5spd b5) developed front humming noise. I have changed bearings, axles, and tires and it didn't work. I also checked the transmission oil level today and its normal and clean. The noise is not engine related and it depends on the speed only! starts at about 15mph and it gets worse as I go faster. At 60mph the noise is annoying. As the car becomes lighter going over a crest, the noise disappears and comes right back when weight is back on the wheels and suspension. All new front-end suspension, tires, bearings and axles and nothing seems to improve this.

I have a 2007 Camry, had it since 06 and just recently I am starting to hear a humming noise when I turn my steering wheel to the left or right.
View 3 RepliesAlero :: 2000 / 3.4L - Humming Noise Near The Front End
I have a 2000 Olds Alero 3.4L. The car has been making a "humming" noise near the front end. It sounds a lot like the noise you hear when driving on rough road. It happens no matter what gear the automatic transmission is in. It changes sound with speed (most prevalent at 40 MPH). The sound also changes when I turn the wheel - it is worse when I turn left going down the highway and the noise is less when I turn right. I have replaced the driver side wheel bearing, the drivers side dive axel (I noticed the CV boot was leaking), none of this worked. It sounds like it is on the drivers side so I have not messed with the passenger side. (CV joints look fine on the passenger side). I put the car on a lift and ran through the gears - there is a vibration (car shakes) as the tires speed up - but I can't tell if it is a tire or something else. I need to know what this might be - transmission? -Tire? -Passenger Hub?
View 6 RepliesPhaeton :: 2004 W12 - Humming Noise In Front End
I have a humming noise coming from the front end of my 2004 W12. I only notice the noise at highway speeds and it appears to only be audible when I turn the wheel to the right. For example, when traveling on the highway and the road bends slightly to the right or when I move into the right lane, I hear a faint hum coming from the wheel(s).
I started hearing the hum a few days ago but dismissed it as a symptom of my Phaeton Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (POCD). While driving to and from DC last night on a night out with my wife, she commented on the presence of the hum as well.
I just had the LF wheel bearing replaced 2 weeks ago. Here are some possibilities I'v thought of:
RF wheel bearing
Low Power Steering Fuild
Other Steering Problems (leaking rack)
On a related note, where do you check the power steering fluid level? I can't seem to find the reservoir.
Golf/GTI VI :: Humming Noise Coming From Front
I have these in 225/40R-18 on VW Goal rims (MkVI GTi). Last month I hit a nice size pot hole and put a very small bend in the outer lip of the right front rim. No mark on the rim, so the tire took the hit. Had a peak inside and the tire was bruised pretty good. Around this same time I noticed a faint humming that seemed to be coming from the front. Figured an inner ply shifted so I replaced that single tire (10,000 on the others).
So the humming is still there and getting a little louder. I've rotated a couple times but the sound is the same. Non-distinct location; seems like it could be coming from all 4 corners.
Golf IV R32 :: Humming Noise From The Front Of The Motor?
So I noticed while doing some cleaning under the hood today that something was humming or buzzing from the front of the motor. I also noticed that whatever it was was making my oil dipstick vibrate. Is this normal because I just left somewhere and the car had a little issue getting started. I had the battery and alternator tested on the way home and they are fine.
View 4 RepliesChevrolet - Traverse :: Slight Humming Noise When Operating - Steering Gear Is Leaking
My 2011 Traverse makes a slight humming noise when operating. Chevrolet says the steering gear is leaking. Need a new steering gear and pump. Also said it is not covered under the powertrain warranty. Our personal mechanic says it should be covered. In April they replaced the steering gear housing kit free of charge. I am an idiot when it comes to figuring out what is supposed to be covered. Why would the steering gear housing kit be covered but not the steering gear? Why would a 2011 have problems with the steering gear? I drive like a granny. Have about 62,000 miles on it.
View 3 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: Humming Noise During Coast - Vibrations In Steering Wheel
My 05 F150 with 107k miles becomes increasingly noisy.... From speeds about 15mph up to 50mph there is a humming noise from the front wheels, clearly audible during coast. It sounds almost like tire noise, low frequency with a clear tone (not rumble) and gets worse in LH turns / better in RH turns. The frequency follows the speed.
I also can feel vibrations in the steering wheel. It's not the tires, I changed them without any impact. Checked wheel bearing play - seems OK. The locking hubs are stuck in locked position, with quite some play between the hub and the driveshaft at the RH front wheel (have not checked the LH front wheel yet), seems weird...
Where should I start to look, - wheel bearings or locking hubs? And more important, we plan a 1500 mls trip to Germany - do I dare to drive the truck? What is the worst thing that could happen if wheel bearing or locking hub?
Prius (2004-09) :: Humming Noise From The Front Occasionally?
I can hear a strange noise from the front occasionally, independent to my operation. It sound like rolling a cassette tape in a old driver. The sound repeats every several minutes, and lasts about 5 seconds each time.
When I standing outside the car, it hears louder from under the bonnet.
Cadillac - Deville :: 2003 - Humming Noise In The Front
I recently had a lot of repair done to my 2003 cadillac: new bearings in both front wheels, new power steering line, rotors turned, cv axel replaced.I also bought new Michelin "Symmetry" tires as I am taking a long trip.
I had Toyo tires with some wear and had them rotated at another place other than my mechanic's. After that I noticed the humming noise in the front; it sounds like it is coming fron the driver's side and is most noticeable when I drive 35 or 40 mph. My mechanic said he checked everything carefully and couldn't figure out the problem.
