Jetta - Volkswagen :: Manual Transmission - Can Only Use 2nd / 3rd And Reverse Gear
93000 miles 5 speed manual transmission only lets me use 2,3 and reverse gear. I took good care of that car and dont think transmission should go out that soon/

My car is a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta GLI, I was on my way somewhere when slowing down i put my car in neutral and began braking. Going faster than i thought i shifted into first gear at about 40mph. At that moment i felt rattling in both the gear stick and the clutch pedal, i tried to shift again in case it was just a hiccup and my gear stick was stuck in neutral, i couldn't switch into any gears. Now when my car is off is the only time i can move the gear stick into the gear slots. And i also lost a lot of pressure in the clutch pedal but it does not stick to the floor it returns to normal position after a moment or so.
View 6 RepliesJetta - Volkswagen :: 2009 - Manual Transmission Hard To Shift
Long time listener first time poster. My wife has a 2009 Vw jetta 2.5 with a manual transmission that is very hard to shift. It has 80,000 on it and has had the clutch replaced once. She told me that she never had any problems shifting until she let it sit for two weeks while she went to cape cod. I have driven it myself and can confirm that there is an issue. Sometimes it just will not go into gear. No grinding noise at all and very very stiff when moving the stick shift laterally from first to fifth. Not actually shifting from 1-5 just moving the stick across the range it feels like cement. I have already changed the transmission fluid and used the Vw oem oil. I also removed the shift boot and lubed all the moving parts with a high quality grease. Tomorrow I am going to bleed the clutch slave and have a good look at the shift linkage. Is their something I am missing?
View 5 RepliesJetta - Volkswagen :: Manual Transmission - Hard To Shift Between Gears
I went on vacation for a week and left my car at my parents house. I came back and now it has become extremely difficult to shift between gears. It's nearly impossible to get the car into reverse, extremely difficult to get it into first, makes a thud when pulling it out of first, is semi difficult to get into 2nd, but only a mild nuisance to get into 3rd through 6th.
For more information, the car is a 2012 Volkswagen GLI with just shy of 40,000 miles. The car ran just fine before I went on vacation and the car was not moved while I was on vacation. I did notice that a little ticking kind of sound when I had the car in neutral with no clutch. So the throw out bearing was starting to wear, but it was a very slight. But I haven't had any other problems.
Volkswagen - Beetle - Clutches :: 2000 - Manual Transmission Noises - Stuck Between Gears?
I have a 2000 VW beetle with a fairly new clutch (2 yrs old). My boyfriend is new to a manual transmission and I can't say I know much about how it works either. A few times when he was driving he will reverse out of a parking spot and then shift to first and the car will make a deep rumbling noise. We turn off the car and turn it back on and its fine. Is the car stuck between gears? Why does it make this noise?
View 4 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: 6th Gear RPMs For Manual Transmission
What RPMs do you see in 6th gear, say at 60mph or 80mph? Consumer Reports claims the RPM at 60mph is 3020!
So I went to vw.com to look at the gear ratios for a reality check. The site lists two final gear ratios for the manual. "Final I" is 3.94 and "Final II" is 3.09. When do you get one versus the other? With a final gear ration of 3.09, I get roughly 2400RPM at 60mph. But with a ratio of 3.94, I indeed get about 3000RPM at 60mph or 4100RPM at 80mph!!! That's absolutely insane.
Jetta - Volkswagen - Fluids :: Delayed Shift When Going Uphill / RPMs Go Up To 4k
I bought a used VW 1.8T with Tiptronic Transmission ~88,500 miles, so I don't know what is normal and what I should be concerned with (I'm a stick shift person, bought this to be the family car). I particularly notice what seems to be a delayed shift when going up hill RPMs go up to ~4k before the shift. Is this a late shift?I've been reading a fair bit of online fora about the need to change the ATF + filter + clean the pan every 30-40k.
View 2 RepliesJetta - Volkswagen :: 2003 GLS Lagging On Acceleration Right Around The RPMs When Shifting
I have an automatic 2003 Volkswagen Jetta GLS with 138,000 miles on it. I bought her four years ago with 91,000 miles. Right after I got her, I noticed that she'll jump a little when when she's cold (i.e. ease on the gas for the first few miles until she drives more smoothly). Looking around the web, this seems to be fairly common and most forums say that it shouldn't be a cause for any alarm.
More recently though, she's started to lag when I accelerate right around the RPMs where she should be shifting. For example, increase to about 3000 RPM, then it feels like a second of free fall, then she'll catch up and be just fine.
I took her into a shop to get it looked at about 3 weeks ago - initial thought had been maybe an issue with the transmission fluid (did a flush back in 2014 / 110k miles). The mechanic refused to do the flush until I had the catalytic converter and downstream O2 sensor replaced. The previous owner had installed a modification to the sensor and the wires had got too close to the converter and melted.
We noticed the check engine light about a year ago and had it looked at, but the mechanic then said it wasn't a huge issue and was really only going to affect our gas mileage so we held off. Since this mechanic was fairly certain that this was causing our issue, we went ahead and had the repairs made. No luck. Haven't had a chance to take her back to the shop, but I figured I'd ask to see if we were at least on the right track.
Second issue. My wife and I share this car, and her commute is significantly further than mine. She says that four times over the past two months the car has shut itself off when it comes to a stop. Not a common occurrence given the amount of driving we do, but enough to be concerning.
I've had regular oil changes and kept up with the routine maintenance over the past four years (new spark plugs, air filters, etc.). Just got a fuel system flush with the catalytic converter repair three weeks ago. Haven't changed the battery since I bought her, but every time we get the oil changed they check it and say it's good.

I have a 2002 F150 5.4 2 valve. only when the engine is cold, everyone once in a while the engine will surge up and down about 2-300 RPMs for about 10 seconds. also right when I put it in drive it will surge. I was thinking about pulling off the trottle body and cleaning it.
View 3 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Water In Manual Transmission Oil
Having a problem with water being in the manual transmission oil? I ended up having to drain the oil because 3rd gear started grinding again and it ended up being water in there again. I drained it into a milk jug with the top cut off and let it separate and there was a little over an inch of water in it at the bottom.
Is there possibly a bad deal or something because that seems like way more than a little bit of condensation especially since the oil was changed not too long ago. Also it does not leak anything so I'm not sure where it would be coming from.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 1.8T 5 Speed Manual Transmission Won't Go Into 1st Gear
2004 Jetta 1.8T w/5 speed manual transmission. Bought the car this way, mostly for a parts car, but everything else runs and drives good, so if it wasn't for this issue it would be a decent driver.
Won't/can't select first gear. Seems like there is no "spot" for first, or that the shift mechanism has no where to go., locked out. All the rest of the gear selections work perfectly. Tried the cable adjust ritual, but it was fine-as I suspected. The shift assembly works/moves perfectly from the tranny end and the shift lever end. Not a synchro, it won't go in stopped, moving, running or shut off.
So, what's the probable best guess or best way to come to a diagnosis? Shift tower parts broken somewhere, or something like a shifting fork bent broken? Seems like if it was internal there would be other gear selections that would be affected. Any links to some diagrams?
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2001 VR6 Manual Transmission Gets Stuck In 3rd Gear
I just picked up another GTi and knew the transmission was iffy when I bought it. I had to deal with the serpentine belt tensioner which is now new and also a new waterpump since it was wobbling.
I've already drained and replaced whatever oil was in there with VW G60 Gear Oil which is what my Dealer here told me to put in and it shifts smoother now but still has the same issue. I also did the Shifter Cable adjustment to see if that was the problem but that only made it easier to shift but it still got stuck.
Basically what happens is when driving I shift into 3rd gear and when I go to shift out of 3rd it comes out of gear but it's like it hits a brick wall and will not go into the home position. I was hoping the adjustment and new oil would work but it hasn't done anything.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Manual Transmission Fluid Change On Older MK4?
So I recently bought my 03 VW Golf TDI, and have it in the shop this morning to get the wheel alignment done, balance my winters, fuel/cabin filter changed, as well as an oil change. I am now wondering whether or not to give them a call to change the transmission oil as well...
But.. the vehicle has alot of km's on it (358K) and I keep reading that it would do more harm then good? Is this true? Doesn't make any sense to me, but the car could shift more smoothly I think if I do it, and I have yet to see any tran fluid change in the previous owners records in quite some time..
Touareg :: Engine / Transmission Surge At End Of Braking
When stopping (say, at a stop sign or red light), there is a considerable surge just as the car stops. If your foot is lightly on the brake, the car will actually ease (or even, lurch) forward a few inches. More aggressively applying the brake will prevent the movement, but there is still a noticeable and audible engine/transmission surge. I don't mean to imply that this is really terrible - just a little weird and disconcerting. My most recent "VW" was a 2001 Audi 2.7T V6. I didn't notice this in that vehicle. Perhaps it is just an inevitable result of the engine/transmission combination in this case. Dunno.
View 24 RepliesJetta - Volkswagen :: Transmission Downshifts To 1st When Come To Hard Stop
My 2004 VW jetta has 139k on it. Whenever I come to a hard-ish stop or almost-stop, the transmission downshifts to 1st and won't get out of it unless i play with the tiptronic mode selector and coax it to upshift. it shifts well and works well in gingerly driving other than in this circumstance. i took it to a shop and they say (as they always do) it needs a new tranny. I'm wondering out loud if there is some kind of mounting instability issue that could explain this. This is definitely a case of needing a new transmission. I have read a bunch about solenoids being the culprit in general shifting problems, but not this exact set of symptoms and circumstances.
View 1 RepliesLexus GX 2004-09 :: 2005 GX470 - Surge In Engine As Transmission Engages
I just purchased a used a Lexus GX470. The transmission seems to do something fairly consistently that seemed unusual to us, but we are new to this car so I'm not sure if it is normal, abnormal, or a sign of something big to come.
When starting from a complete stop, upon removing your foot from the brake, there is a noticeable mini-surge in the engine as the transmission engages, and the sensation seems to repeat when the transmission is disengaging as you brake to stop.
Does this sound normal? From searching on google, I have read that there are issues with "hard shifting" but this does not seem to happen with shifting...just when the transmission engages or disengages, and it isn't a big 'bump' as much as a mini-surge. I have also read where it could be related to something electrical such as the air conditioner.
The car is under warranty, but the service department notes no error codes when they scanned the engine.
Jetta - Volkswagen :: 2009 - Change Transmission Fluid And Filter Every 40,000 Miles?
The VW Owners Manual for my 2009 VW TDI Jetta indicates that the automatic transmission fluid and filter should be changed every 40,000 miles. However my independent mechanic's "after market" maintenance manuals say that the DSG should not be touched for the life of the car. I am perplexed
View 10 RepliesCamry :: 2011 Manual Transmission - Squeal Noise In Engine
I have a 2011 Camry 6 speed Manual Transmission and every so often when I shift gears I hear a squeal noise in the engine right as I fully let off the clutch and give it gas in the next gear up. It usually does it when shifting to 2, 3, and 4th gear. Any other Manual Camry owner with this issue that might know what it is? I never really hear it if I take off slow or shift at a slow/normal pace, but if I'm in a rush and have to pick up and GO then most likely will do it.

I have Corolla 1.6 dual VVTi (year - 2009.), manual transmission, 1ZR engine, for about a year, ~50000miles on clock. About a month ago from a engine part it began to produce sound that can be heard on the accompanying recordings.
for these sounds is characteristic that:
- can be heard only while driving and depressing a gas pedal, its not heard when I am changing rmps while the car is stationary..
-only when engine is warm
-from about 1900rpm to 3000rpm.
-Toyota service is not useful, they fail to locate the source of the sound.
I submit sound recordings that I made by placing a microphone in the motor department.
