Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Clonk Noise At Rear Of Boot
Having owned my 2010 Santa Fe less than a week, am learning and listening to any noises and things that go on with the car to make sure I am happy with it. There have been a couple of things that are easy sorts by the Dealer I bought it from, but I am a little worried about a Clonk noise coming from the rear of the boot and is this normal.
Although I didn't buy the car from Hyundai I still have the remainder of the 5 year warranty and the mileage is low, obviously the dealer I bought it from is the first person to speak too, but I think I should get Hyundai to check as they will no more about the car. It may be something simple but don't want to leave it and find out it could be a major problem, as I am worried about it being related to the Self Leveling Suspension as I know this is costly and obviously would want Hyundai to look into while under warranty.
When I am driving along and go over a rut in the road or a hump or something it's like something in the rear jumps and clonk as it comes back down.
Having just got the car the boot is empty and I haven't even found a load cover for it yet, the 2 rear seats are down, checked the tyres and they have been pumped up to the correct pressure.
I have had a look at the tools and I don't think it is anything moving around there and it would make more of a rattle rather than a clonk. I not sure if I have a spare wheel and whether it is located underneath the car as I can't get down underneath and have a look as I have difficulties with bending, kneeling etc.
If there is a problem with the suspension or shocks etc would it make this sort of noise, would I notice anything in the way it drives etc. The noise sounds a lot like it is inside but can't think what it would be, definitely a sort of sound like something is lifting off and clonking back down.
Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2008 - Leak On Steering Boot
I have a Hyundai Santa Fe 2008 with approximately 105,000 miles. I had my left inner tire rod replaced a couple days ago and today I notice a leak under the vehicle by the boot. There was not a leak previously. I had the tire rod replaced because it was loose and notice by the mechanic who was doing the front wheel alignment. Could the mechanic have damaged something that caused the leak? What could cause this leak? The vehicle seems to be steering just fine.
View 2 RepliesGolf V R32 :: Separate Boot From Knob To Install New Boot?
I'm repainting my peeling shifter trim plate and replacing the shift boot with a new one. Lots of support available on removing the shifter and disassembling the trim plate, but no clear instructions on how to remove the boot from the knob. It looks like this inside:
How do I separate the boot from the knob to install a new boot? The only instructions I found showed a metal collar which is not the case in our cars.
Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Grease Coming From Inner CV Axle Boot On Passenger Side
So the other day I was changing the oil on the SF, and I noticed a glob of grease (fist sized) on the passenger side of the frame. After cleaning up the mess it appeared that the grease was coming from the inner CV boot on the passenger side. From my position under the SF I could not see any obvious crack in the boot, and I also squeezed the boot and ran my finger around it in each of the bellows. I still didn't find any rupture. I then began to wonder if the boot had slipped off of the base of the axle. I pushed and pulled on the boot and could not really budge it.
In full disclosure I did change the front struts 2 weeks prior. My only thought is maybe I pulled the boot off somehow during that job. If that was the case though wouldn't I be able to move/dislodge the boot now?
FWIW there is no noise coming from the passenger side that would indicate the CV joint is bad or on its way out.
Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Fan Blows Hot Air
I got a SFS 2.0 Turbo 2014 about 20 days ago. The car is back with black interior and navigation package.
Since day 1 I had noticed that the fan always blows hot air, no matter what the outside temperature is. Air conditioner cools the car sufficiently, but low temperature setting on the thermostat is needed.I feel the fan is pulling hot air from the engine compartment.
I am due for a service in about 30 days.
Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Never Been Able To Put More Than 12.5 Gallons
I just bought a new 2017 Santa Fe Sport in May, have 1500 miles on it. I STRONGLY suspect that I have a 14 gal fuel tank rather than the 17.4 gal as advertised. I have never been able to put more than 12.5 gallons in it, even when on E, and I mean E, like -- Empty. The P/N # on the tank reads 31151-47000, but since the SF is brand new, I cannot locate the correct P/N number.
I called the dealer and they stated that according to their OEM specs, that vehicle SHOULD have only a 14 gal tank which makes no sense as it is NOT what is advertised, and would be smaller than a Tucson. Dealer told me Hyundai does not even make a 17.4 gal tank.
The dealer told me they would "get with region" and call me back within 2 days. That was 10 days ago. I am not expecting to fill up my tank 17 gallons each time, but you cannot tell me that there is a 5 gallon "reserve" in my fuel tank.
Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: BSD Light Came On
The BSD light came on today, only have 1400 miles on the vehicle, getting it checked out tomorrow.

Where is the air intake for the cabin recirc inside the cabin? I have a musty smell (bad) when turning on the fan without AC. More on recirc but sometimes on fresh. I turned on AC and sprayed Lysol into the fresh air for 20 seconds. Where can I spray to allow Lysol to get into the recirc air circuit?
Need to clean out musty air from vents when fan is on but AC is not

View 21 RepliesSanta Fe (DM - 2013+) :: P2098 Code Came On
My wife bought a brand new 2014 Santa Fe (with the V6 and 3rd row seating) and has been driving it for a little over a year (a little over 15k miles). Today when she left work, the blue link popped up on the screen and said for her to press the call button, the check engine light came on and she also said the a/c quit blowing cold air and was just blowing hot air. She pulled over and called me instead. While she waited on me, she said it continued to blow hot air, so she cut the vehicle off. When I got there, I couldn't see anything visually wrong with it. Coolant level was fine. Oil level was fine. The drive belt was fine...nothing wrong. I started it up and the check engine light came back on, but no blue link. Everything seemed fine, so I drove it home and she drove my car home. It ran fine all the way back. Nothing wrong but a check engine light on. I put my code reader on it and showed a P2098. I googled it and it showed this...
P2098 Hyundai - Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean Bank 2
Possible causes
- Low fuel pressure
- Engine misfire
- Large vacuum leak
- Blocked converter
- Faulty O2 sensor bank 2
...now with this being a fairly new vehicle, I can't really see any of these things being the problem. She is due an oil change, so we will have them check it out when we get that done in a couple days. I already checked the gas cap and I haven't cleared the code, just so the dealership can see it for warranty purposes.

My sante fe turbo has a bad surge when you are on the throttle it just dont pull smooth at all.
View 3 RepliesSanta Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Awd Doesn't Work
Rear wheels aren't engaging. Truck is running on front wheel drive. They checked transfer case and differential fluids all is good with no signs of metal or broken parts inside. Truck drivers fine on dry and wet pavement no weird noises or vibrations. When I drove in snow the traction control light would come on as normal and when I'm getting stuck instead of the rear wheels causing the AWD Malfunction light comes on for about 5-10 seconds. And turns off. When car was on lift The drive shaft was able to be turned as if on neutral. Question is that normal? Maybe electronically disengages from transfer case? Anyway. A whole day at the service now they want to stay with the vehicle.
I have attached the light that comes on and off when the front wheels spin and no traction. Between 5 and 6 on the tach.

My Downhill Brake Control light came on yellow three times today, Each time I was able to reset it by shutting the engine off/on but after a few minutes, it kept coming back on. I am hoping that it was the result of the cold rainy weather today.

View 18 RepliesSanta Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Hole In Roof
On the 23rd of January, car was at the dealership (9 am) for its first oil change, that rattle in the dashboard and being washed. There was also another issue to be taken care of but they didn't carry a replacement headlight. My brow light on the passenger side wasn't turning on so dealer said they had to swap the whole headlight assembly! Anyhow picked up the SFS later on that day (6 pm) and, I had to wait for the windows to clear as they were really foggy due to the fact that the vehicle had been washed and it was pretty cold outside that day (-25 F). Went to the restaurant with my wife and came back home around 8:30 pm. Car stayed parked all day on the 24th of January in the driveway. Come January the 25th, I wanted to take the SFS instead to go to work when I noticed that giant hole in the roof! Luckily the shade wasn't open so no glass inside the cabin although had the shade been open, maybe pressure wouldn't have built up. Vehicle was towed to dealership but Service Dept. was closed. Today, I shall hear from them. The loaner in the meantime, an Elantra.

The 40 of my 60/40 split seat rattles. If I fold it down it doesn't make a sound. I notice the rattle when going over bumps/cracks on the various Canadian roads. I did some investigating and found straps underneath the seat. One seems to have snapped off. What the straps are for? They are hooked to a bar half way underneath the seat and go to the back of the seat.
View 19 RepliesSanta Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Struggles At Start Up
I've had a couple issues where the car struggles to start in the morning after a cold night. 2.0 ultimate, btw. It isn't a cranking issue, it just struggles to turn over. Both times its done it, it seemed like it took 2-3 seconds longer to start than it should of. Was right on the edge of turning over but wouldn't. My non professional opinion was that it seemed like it wasn't getting enough gas to turn over.
What could be the issue. I will not have time to take it in to be looked at as I'm starting a new job next week and don't get any time off. Unless it fails to start completely, I'll deal for now.
