Audi - A6 :: Air Conditioner Fan Going Out
I have a 1995 Audi A6 Quattro that has 225K miles on it. I bought it two years ago with 160K miles, and for a while I was driving 500+ miles a week. Shortly after I got the car, the power windows began to work intermittently. My mechanic couldn't find the problem and suggested I take it to a dealer, but I decided that it wasn't a big deal to just walk inside of Starbucks instead of going through the drive through. Now, the air conditioning fan is doing the same thing. Sometimes it works, but sometimes not. It is more likely to work first thing in the morning after spending the night in a cool garage, and less likely to work after I've driven somewhere and I am coming home. Fall is coming so I'm less concerned about it, but I know that as soon as we get our first snowfall, I'm going to need that fan working to defrost the windows and warm the car.

View 16 RepliesAudi - A8 :: 2005 - Headlights Won't Go Off
For three years, the headlights on my wife's 2005 Audi A8 sporadically stay on once the car is turned off. The car only has 27,000 miles on it and has been regularly maintained. My wife keeps the light switch in the "auto" position. Once in a while when she turns the car off the lights stay on and remain on no matter what she does -- turning the light switch to "off" or in other positions, turning the car on and off again, etc..Eventually the lights will go off if she fools around with them enough but sometimes she doesn't notice they have remained on and the battery has gone dead.
We have had the car in to the dealer many times for this problem and for a while they told us they could not re-create the problem and didn't know what to do. Then they told us they ran a computer printout and found there was a bad signal being sent to the ignition. Replacing the ignition did not fix the problem. Now they are telling us they can not re-create the problem again now what to do.They say they have never seen this problem but these are the same people that told us there was no problem with the motor which opens the trunk -- until Audi came out with a totally re-designed trunk motor.

View 4 RepliesAudi - A4 :: 2005 - Transmission Slips
On a 2005 Audi A4, 1.8 T... The Audi dealership found a 'fault for transmission control module' (the transmission slips), and a fault for vacuum leak ('crank case venting components dry rotted'). How much should it cost to repair each of these? My partner would prefer to get rid of the car if repairs add up to $4,000 or more, as the dealer would like to charge. The car has 44,000 miles on the odometer.

I have a 2002 Audi A4 V6 - two weeks ago the oil pressure light came on - I pulled over checked the oil (it was OK) started the car back up and the light was gone. this has happened 5 or 6 times in the last two weeks. I either turn the engine off and restart and it's gone or it comes on, chimes three times, and then goes off. no real pattern except the car needs to be running for at last 20 minutes and it happens between 20 mph and 40 mph never at high speed or at idle.

View 2 RepliesAudi - A4 :: 2000 - ABS Brake Light Came On
Audi A4 2000 with 200K on the odometer. The alarming flashing BRAKE light came on and the ABS light. My mechanic says they will need to replace the module (not cheap) but I wonder if I can just keep driving anyhow until inspection is due––hey, that's six months away. The car has great pep; the motor is good, the brakes are fine (recently replaced the rear brakes) so if I am just conscious of the lack of ABS––is there any problem here?
View 1 RepliesAudi - A6 :: 2001 - Boost Drops / CEL Came On
'01 A6 2.7T 95k....Not boosting as high as normal...the check engine light came on the other day, P1136 code said engine was running lean. I found a small vacuum hose leak near wastegate and fixed it today (CEL is still on though). Stock boost is normally around 8-9 psi, but I am only getting 6-7 psi. Also, the boost seems to climb more slowly than it has been, and it occasionally goes into limp mode (only 3-4 psi). The turbos were replaced about a year ago with all new blue hoses. There aren't any other symptoms, no weird noises.
View 1 RepliesAudi - A6 :: Unable To See The Oil Level On Dipstick
I am unable to get a reading from my oil dipstick and I am wondering if this is an indicator of an upcoming problem. I tested my car the day after I got it serviced at the dealer - It was a major service where all oil levels and tune up had been performed. The car is parked on a street that can be qualified as horizontal surface and the engine hasn't turned yet. I pull the dipstick and it's full of oil. I clean it and retest and I get the same results where the stick is fully covered with oil. I tried all the tricks I heard of - got a new dipstick, changed the oil a second time and put the recommended volume of oil only to get the same results. How I can get an accurate reading - or maybe this may be an indicator of the engine going out or something.
The car in question is a 2002 Audi A6 3.0 V6 engine all wheel drive and about 140K miles on it.
Audi - A4 :: 1996 - Gas Smell When Driving
My 84 year old mother has a 1996 Audi A4. This summer she took it in to the mechanic to find out why it smells like gas when she drives. The mechanics found no leaks and do not smell it (they say they just aren't as sensitive to that smell anymore). She says it is getting worse and now has to drive with the window open. Last week the mechanic went to her house to see if there was a leak puddling onto the garage that was causing a gas smell to seep into the car. They did find a small puddle but not enough to cause as much smell as my mom experiences. Also, she says the smell gets worse while she's driving rather than it airing out.
View 8 RepliesAudi - A5 :: Oil Consumption A Quart Every 800 Miles?
I bought a new Audi A5 with a 2.0 liter turbo engine in August 2010. From the very beginning this car has been using in excess of a quart of oil every 850 miles. I have done some research and it appears that this happens to a small minority of their engines. Audi seems alternatively unwilling or unable to solve the problem. They have performed 3 extensive repairs replacing 2 different engine seals-one of them twice. The consumption has now actually worsened to about a quart every 800 miles. Now they are starting to tell me that my consumption is really not all that far from Audi's "minimal acceptable limit of a quart every 1,000 miles". Why does the oil consumption vary so widely in their new engines? Why can't they fix the problems? Why do they act like we are unreasonable to expect the same consumption of all the lucky A5 drivers?
View 18 RepliesAudi - A4 :: 2006 - Dying With No Reason?
My friend's 2006 Audi A4 2.0 started dying on her a few months back. She replaced the battery to no avail. She then took it to a shop and they seemingly fixed it. It died again. She took it to the Audi dealership. They charged her $1200 to fix something to do with the temperature/vacuum system. A few days after it was out of the dealership and supposedly fixed, it started dying again.
She has taken it back to Audi a few more times. They have replaced the knock sensor, the cam shaft, the fuel pump, and the fuel filter, (they are supposedly not charging her labor).
We are stumped. Audi is stumped. The national Audi guys are stumped (yes, they called them in). My friend doesn't know what to do. She is essentially paying the Audi dealership for them to experiment on her car.

Recently replaced alternator and battery (was told by Brakes Plus that was the issue). The car (with no warning) sometimes just won't start. Whether after driving it or if it's been sitting for a day or two, sometimes it will only turn over once, but never start. Not sure if it's a timing issue or an issue with spark/fuel. There's also a loud click in time with engine rotation when it does start, may be an injector, also not sure with that.
