Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Car Keeps Dying With No Apparent Reason
My aunt came to me the other day about her car not starting and I found that the battery was shot and would not accept a jump start so i replaced that and then yesterday it died again with the new battery so naturally, I replaced the alternator. After swapping the alternator I jumped the car ran it for about 20 mins and told her to follow me to grab some food. When she proceeded to back out the car died again!!!
So I tightened the belt on the alternator a little more, jumped it and let it run a little bit. This time I went through all the basic electronics lights blinkers brakes ect except ac and radio. then i back out and pull back in the parking spot and I was thinking pow it's fixed.
So I turn on the A/C and i notice the sound of the RPMs go down which doesn't concern me too much but when I looked at the RPM gauge it was erratic but the engine wasn't fluctuating with it. So I turned the ac off checked the A/C fuses they were fine. Tried turning the A/C on one more time and this time, RPM gauge stops reading all together and the A/C light was flickering very quickly.
I'm not good with the electronic side of the car but I am leaning towards a very bad grounding issue or short. I have no multi-meter so I haven't read any voltages but I am going to see if I can borrow one from my cousin.
Golf VI R :: Car Dying For No Reason When Slowing Down Or At A Stop
So this has happened multiple times now. its always when I'm slowing down or at a stop. I have Apr stage 3 software with rfd. I ran the car for codes a couple of weeks ago and there were none. its a little scary since its done it at highway speeds when in neutral and the revs have dropped out. I still have ignition/terminal 15 power but the engine is no longer running. today I was at a stop light and the car died out. it took several attempts cranking it over to get it started, I was in busy traffic and it got a little worrisome. also I'm driving my kid around and can't have this happen anymore. Without any faults I'm not sure where to start since I don't have factory software.

I am trying to sell my 06 A6 and my check engine light came on. Took it to a certified mechanic and they said don't worry about it's nothing serious maybe a sensor. I then took it to an Audi dealer and they said an evaporation sensor possibly then twisted the fuel cap and it turned off.
View 3 RepliesAudi - A4 - Transmissions :: 2006 - Engine Hangs Around 1700 RPM When Trying To Maintain A Stable Speed
Recently bought an Audi A4 Quattro from a dealer with 112,876 miles on it.. The car runs absolutely beautiful, it up-shifts and downshifts without any noticeable issue, it changes gears without any issue, however... When I am trying to maintain a stable speed of around 35 - 40mph and my engine hangs around 1700RPM it'll bounce up and down slightly..
The revs will hop between 1700RPM up to around 1750RPM and then back down, and then up again.. It's hardly noticeable and the only time it causes any issue/delay is when it hops above 2000RPM and then back down... Is the torque converter the issue or what else could be the cause? Timing belt has been done, spark plugs have been checked, oil has been changed.
Audi - A6 :: 2006 - Hard Time Starting Whenever Fill Up Tank With Gas / Idles Roughly
I have the strangest problem on my 2006 Audi A6: whenever I fill up my tank with gas the car has a very hard time starting. This has happened 3 times in a row now. I run the tank fairly low - to about 1 quarter tank or a little lower but never to empty....then I fill the tank. When I get in the car to start it, the engine just keeps turning over trying to start but will not start. Then I stop trying, let the ignition rest for a bit, and try to start it about 5 minutes later and it starts just fine on the first try.
What could be causing this? One thing that has also started happening around the same time as the problem above is that when I'm idling at a stop light, I notice the car may start to idle roughly and seem like it is about to die out. I am the first and only owner of this car...I take good care of it and am an easy going driver. But I do drive a lot and have about 200,000 miles on it after 7 years.
Accent MC (2006-11) :: Car Battery Dying Randomly
Only electrical mod that was done was the fog light mod so I can turn them on when I want... Is it possible that even if the fog lights are off, that they are pulling some juice from the battery ? In the last 6 months my car has died 4 times, ever since the fog light mod.

2009 Accent GL Sport manual transmission. Battery keeps dying. 2 batteries over the last 9 months. This is on my son's car. Replaced battery and a few months later it's dead again. Had the system checked no drains on the battery, alternator work great. No fathom drains in the system. The car can set for a week before being driven. The only thing we can think of, because it's not driven every day, the little battery drains out by the systems in the car(clock, etc.). we think there's a .8 amp drain or less.

Car wouldn't start on Wednesday so wife had neighbor jump start the car and she took it to the auto store and had the original battery replaced. On Friday, while driving the car, the battery light came on so she took it to the auto store to have the battery checked. When they went out to check it the car wouldn't start, only click. The battery has a full charge and doesn't drop when the key is turned. I pulled the starter and had it checked...it's good. I've checked relays and fuses and am coming up with nothing.

View 7 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: 2006 - MPG Dropped With No Apparent Reason
I have noticed a significant (15 to 20%) drop-off in mpg in the last 6 months or so. My 2006 prius at 95,000 miles is just short of the warranty on the battery pack. I brought it into the dealership and they ran the routine computer diagnostics and said everything looks good. I fully expected them to tell me that the performance on the battery pack had fallen off, so I was a bit put out. The guy actually got a bit defensive with me when I asked him some further questions about what the criteria are for determining whether the battery back was performing as it is supposed to in order to get the maximum MPGs.

View 4 RepliesElantra HD (2006-10) :: Trunk Pops Open For No Reason
My 2010 elantra's trunk has been popping open for no reason, probably at least twenty times since I bought it last december, usually while I am driving. Hyundai service says they've never heard that complaint before. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the remote being activated by something other than pressing the button? While I'm driving the remote is usually dangling off the ignition along with some other keys.
View 4 RepliesJetta - Volkswagen :: 2006 - Clicking Under Steering Wheel And Car Battery Dying
I've been having several issues with my 06 Jetta. First, it began by the car dying out of battery, and than i figured out that during the night the break lightswitch would turn on. I would be able to turn them off by getting in and pressing the breaks but they turn on a while after. Now, today I purchased a stoplight switch to replace the old one however, when I recharged my battery before installing the piece the car died a few minutes later, but when the car was off there was a strange clicking sound under the steering wheel it kept clicking for about 10 minutes before it finally stopped. What could be a possible issue or issues that are going on?
View 4 RepliesToyota - Corolla :: 2006 - Dying Intermittently After Long Periods Of Sitting?
My Toyota Corolla, 2006 keeps dying after long periods of sitting. Coincidentally (?) the issue has only occurred on weekends, after my 8-hour afternoon work shift. The first 2 occasions it made a quick clicking sound when I tried to start it (6 and 5 weeks ago, respectively). I replaced the battery; it was old. Then, the same issue happened two weeks ago. I had the battery checked at the site of purchase, where they also checked the alternator. Both reps advised me the parts showed up good on their meters. It died again the next day. So, I had a mechanic check every fuse and relay in the car to look for a draw on the battery using an amp meter. Readings indicated no significant drop in current draining from the battery while any were unplugged. . . I don't use a remote control unlock button (one professional seemed to think this might be relevant), and I have checked to make sure no lights were left on, even in the trunk. (Also note - I have seen no drop in performance when driving vehicle, nor any change in air conditioning or light brightness). I'm lost where to take it from here.

I have a 2008 Elantra SE. The anti theft alarm gets triggered for no reason on occasion. At first I thought it was only on rainy days, but now it happens in full sun as well.

Chrysler - Ptcruiser :: 2006 - Dashboard Lights Up For No Reason / Losing Power
My dash board lights up for no reason. All the lights -- seat belt, engine, oil, etc. Also the speedometer goes from 0 to 100, the RMP needle goes from 0 to whatever and my gas tank need goes from empty to full to back to empty. In addition it is now loosing power --no gas is getting where ever so I must pump gas peddle to get it going again. It usually lasts only seconds and there is NO rhyme or reason to when it does it. I left it with a dealership and they drove it 265 miles and it did nothing. I got it back and within 48 hours it started doing it again. They did put in a new instrument cluster and it still continues.
View 3 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2006 E450 Super Duty Keeps Dying
So recently my bus has been having issues shutting down on us. It started about 6 weeks ago. My band was on our way to a gig about 5 hours away from home. We got about 30 minutes outside of our destination and the bus just quit on us. After sitting for about 30 minutes, and switching some relays around, its fired back up and we made it to our destination. The ride back home the next day was pretty rough; it happened 3 more times...
We took it out again about 3 weeks ago for a trip about half the distance and the bus quit on us about 20 minutes into the journey. It took about an hour or so of sitting on the side of the highway before it started back up. Rather than try to risk making the trip, we turned around, dropped the bus off, and found alternative transportation...
I should probably add that the bus sat for about 3 or 4 months during the ridiculously harsh winter we had here this year, as we took the winter off from gigging. It was unplugged the entire time as it was stored in a parking lot across the street from my shop where I couldn't plug it in anywhere...
Ford - Explorer :: 2006 XLT Intermittent Engine Rev While Stopped At Stop Lights For No Reason
Engine revs excessively when I press accelerator to shift between 2 and 3 gear. It acts like the transmission is having problem "up shifting". However I had the transmission checked thoroughly and all checks out OK. New fluid, no leaks, compression good, bands good, no debris in housing etc. This engine rev also occurs while stopped at stop lights for no reason. (no acceleration, etc) I also notice the fan behind the radiator running at high speeds when engine is in idle mode. Fan revs and then slows and then revs again. Don't know if this is related.
Engine rev is not related to running the AC. It happens if AC is on or off. The fan rev and the engine rev are not the same sound or symptom. The vehicle runs fine when I first drive it on 40 mile trip to work in the AM. As the day goes on and the vehicle is driven more then the engine rev problem shows up. (again on an intermittent frequency). Question. Could a dirty fuel filter cause this engine rev. Question. What might be some things to check out to find and resolve this problem?
