Silverado :: Burning Too Much Oil Between Changes - Level Low On Dipstick
I don't know what would be considered a normal amount of oil to be used between changes but my 08 w/5.3l seems to be going through too much. Since I've had the truck, about 7.5 months, I've changed to oil once converting it over to Amsoil. When I changed it I noticed the level was lower than what I expected on the dipstick, like 2 quarts low and the oil life meter is showing it's almost time for another change but I had to add a quart about 3 weeks ago because it was down.
View 14 RepliesPrius (Gen 3) :: Checking Oil Level Without Using Dipstick?
I know that when the engine oil level is low a screen will pop up saying to replace the oil.
Is there a way to check the oil level without having to use the dip stick?
On my old HCH it would display the oil life on a side toggle display.
Passat (B6) :: Oil Level Low / Barely Get Reading On Dipstick
Car is burning through a higher than usual amount of oil? I just went to the dealer to do an oil change because the oil was so low I could barely get a reading on the dipstick, no leaks were found, and the car does not smoke.
View 6 RepliesCamry :: 2009 V6 - How To Determine Level On Dipstick When Checking Oil
When checking the oil I am having difficulties determing the level. It is difficult to determine an actual line of the oil level. Oil is smeared above the dimples of the dipstick. I know it is not two inches above the top dimple. I have two other vehicles in the family and it is very easy to tell the level. After driving how long should I wait for the oil to settle into the pan? How to determine the level on the dipstick. A friend of mine to said to check to see if the lower dimple is filled with oil.
View 1 RepliesPrius V :: Oil Level Dropped - Engine Topped Off On The Dipstick
Up until my last oil change at 105,000 miles, I didn't notice any oil usage. When draining my oil, it didn't look like it was quite 4 quarts. After the oil change, I ensured that I had the engine EXACTLY topped off to the upper mark on the dipstick. Around 600 miles later, I parked in the same location and have noticed that the oil level has dropped enough to notice.
I am guessing that I will lose well over a quart between oil changes. Before I resign to the normal mechanical reasons (rings, cylinder wear, etc.), The loss doesn't seem to be gradual which has me looking for other explanations. I also had a Toyota mechanic go over the car and replace the other fluids and filters at 100,000 miles (coincidence I think ).
Camry :: 2007 - Reading Tranny Fluid Level With Dipstick
I am checking the tranny fluid level in my daughter's 2007 4 cyl Camry tomorrow.
This tranny has the dipstick and each time we try to check the fluid level with the dip stick we are not sure if we are getting a good reading or not.
What's the trick to it. Should the tranny fluid be at a certain temp before checking? I don't have the manual with me so I'm trying to find the procedure.
Buick - LaCrosse :: 2005 - Slight Drop In Oil Level On The Dipstick
We purchased a new LaCrosse CXL in 2005. Its speedometer now shows 90,126 miles. The 5W-30 motor oil has been changed every 3,000 miles with no indication of oil loss until around 65,000 miles, when I began noticing a slight drop in oil level on the dipstick (about 1/4 quart) within the 1st 1,000miles following the scheduled oil changes. I then added enough oil to bring the oil level back to full. Within the next 1,000 miles, the oil level again shows oil loss of about 1/4 quart. This has continued over the last 4 years. The car is garaged, and I have never seen any sign of an oil leak on the floor. I have alsodriven behind the car several times, and have never seen any sign of oil smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. Both my Buick dealer and oil-change shop manager can offer no explanation as to why this oil leakage problem developed and continues. The oil shop manager says he has other Buick customers with the 3800 V-6 engine that complain about this same problem of engine oil loss. There have been no mechanical problems with the car and with the exception of the oil "leak" we have been well pleased with the car. Where is the oil going?
View 6 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: Different Readings On Front And Reverse Side Of Dipstick When Checking Oil Level
I know this may seem like a really dumb question, but I was checking the oil on my 2008 prius today and noticed I get different readings on the front and reverse side of the dipstick. One side I have a halfway mark between the 2 marks, flip it over to the backside and I see my oil level is full. So I'm not really sure what the correct reading is.

I know checking your oil level is a pretty easy thing but I am having a serious issue right now. I checked my oil and my dipstick has oil on it but it isn't leaving the napkin wet. Like there is oil on the dip stick but it just doesn't seem right. Nothing on the ground were I stopped at before I got home. How long will it run without causing damage?
View 14 RepliesSaturn :: 1997 - Accelerating Slow / Poor Gas Mileage / Oil Level Raising On Dipstick
I just replaced the head on a 1997 Saturn SL2 due to it running rough and low compression on one of the cylinders. It idles very smooth now and has at least 160 PSI on all 4 pistons. The problem is that it surges as you are accelerating slowly, gets poor gas mileage and it seems that the oil level is raising on the dip stick. I'm guessing that gas is some how getting into the oil.
I checked the spark plugs for carbon build-up which would indicate a rich gas mixture but they're clean (lite tan color). I also replace some of the vacuum lines where I found cracks, but I may have missed a few. Overall the car seems to run pretty good. The problem is that this is my daughter's car who lives 10 hours drive away and I don't want to stick her with any problems. I don't want to take it to a dealership where they'll charge me a lot of money but my mechanic that I normally deal with doesn't know what to do with it since there aren't any fault codes on the computer.

I noticed yesterday while driving the RX (not my daily driver) that when I turned on the A/C to bi-level (chest & feet) it only blew cold air at the chest level while at the feet level it was warm air. If I remember correctly from the past that the feet got cold too so I tried it with the vents only at the feet, still warm air. I even checked to make sure that I didn't have it on bi-level with defroster in use.
View 11 RepliesFord 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Oil In Coolant / Oil Level Drops But Coolant Level Stays The Same
My friend bartered for a '99 F250, 2wd/auto, 4 door, 7.3, 258k miles.
It had reportedly sat for one year, though the expired registration sticker and other things point to it sitting for two.
It ran low on oil, sputtered and died. Oil in the degas tank. Filled to oil to mid way on the hatch marks on the dip stick.
I drove it 25 miles to my house, and the oil level is not reading on the dip stick.
The sludgy fluid level in the degas tank is unchanged. Where is the fluid going?
I will refill the oil to see just how much it lost in the 25 miles if it important to someone, but I prefer to not waste the oil.
My first plan is to remove, inspect and replace the oil cooler o-rings. Even though the dealership charged him for this, I don't trust that they did it right. I think it is the easiest and mostly likely place for oil getting into the coolant.
It does have a really long crank before there is enough low pressure oil for it to start. At the moment I think this is a separate issue.
The dealership also charged him for a replacement injector. No idea if they replaced the cup or not.
Audi - A6 :: Air Conditioner Fan Going Out
I have a 1995 Audi A6 Quattro that has 225K miles on it. I bought it two years ago with 160K miles, and for a while I was driving 500+ miles a week. Shortly after I got the car, the power windows began to work intermittently. My mechanic couldn't find the problem and suggested I take it to a dealer, but I decided that it wasn't a big deal to just walk inside of Starbucks instead of going through the drive through. Now, the air conditioning fan is doing the same thing. Sometimes it works, but sometimes not. It is more likely to work first thing in the morning after spending the night in a cool garage, and less likely to work after I've driven somewhere and I am coming home. Fall is coming so I'm less concerned about it, but I know that as soon as we get our first snowfall, I'm going to need that fan working to defrost the windows and warm the car.

I assume that it is here someplace, but I did a search and couldn't find it. Is there some information available to compare the Phaeton with the Audi models? View 16 RepliesAudi - A8 :: 2005 - Headlights Won't Go Off
For three years, the headlights on my wife's 2005 Audi A8 sporadically stay on once the car is turned off. The car only has 27,000 miles on it and has been regularly maintained. My wife keeps the light switch in the "auto" position. Once in a while when she turns the car off the lights stay on and remain on no matter what she does -- turning the light switch to "off" or in other positions, turning the car on and off again, etc..Eventually the lights will go off if she fools around with them enough but sometimes she doesn't notice they have remained on and the battery has gone dead.
We have had the car in to the dealer many times for this problem and for a while they told us they could not re-create the problem and didn't know what to do. Then they told us they ran a computer printout and found there was a bad signal being sent to the ignition. Replacing the ignition did not fix the problem. Now they are telling us they can not re-create the problem again now what to do.They say they have never seen this problem but these are the same people that told us there was no problem with the motor which opens the trunk -- until Audi came out with a totally re-designed trunk motor.

On a 2005 Audi A4, 1.8 T... The Audi dealership found a 'fault for transmission control module' (the transmission slips), and a fault for vacuum leak ('crank case venting components dry rotted'). How much should it cost to repair each of these? My partner would prefer to get rid of the car if repairs add up to $4,000 or more, as the dealer would like to charge. The car has 44,000 miles on the odometer.
