Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2003 - Uneven RPMs When Cruising
Occasionally I can feel light jerking when cruising steadily at around 2200 rpm. for a second the rpms increase by ~50, not enough even to notice any change in speed, and then goes back where it was. it is as if the clutch was slipping.
My first thought was MAF so took one from a working car but problem did not go away.
A minor thing that may be unrelated: the transmission also sometimes doesn't set shiftpoints properly, i.e., when accelerating uphill, it would go from 1st to 2nd ok, then when it reaches the point to shift to 3rd, the 3rd gear stays only for a second or so, and then shifts to 4th.
So I disconnected the MAF sensor altogether and the problem went away! My conclusion was then that it must be the wiring between ECU and MAF, so checked the cables between ECU and MAF, found all resistances within spec (below 2.5 Ohm). Since the problem is intermittent, the resistance of the cables doesn't tell much.
Checked with vag-com and there are no codes. Where to go from there? 2003 AVH (auto)...
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Timing Belt Busted When Cruising Down The Highway
2.0L 8v ....So what's my chances the valves stayed clear of the pistons?
Driving 70mph 5the gear and cruise control set. Motor just died and I pulled off.
Cars back home in the garage. Iv ordered the ecs tuning timing belt kit.
This was a belt I installed 50k miles ago, shouldn't have gotten a auto parts store belt, or maybe it was my install, but I deff didn't think the belt was going to fail that early. Is there much of a difference between different brand belts and OEM?
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 2004 Jetta Started To Decelerate When Cruising Around 70 MPH
So I was driving on the FWY cruising around 70MPH when all of the sudden my car started to decelerate for no reason without me releasing the gas pedal. I am guessing its my fuel filter or fuel pump.
View 3 RepliesFord - Ranger :: Kicking Sound In The Transmission When Cruising
I sold a buddy of mine my dad's old 1997 Ford Ranger XLT with about 100,000 miles. It passed an inspection and was in good condition. Afterwards we both noticed it had a kicking sound in the transmission as you were cruising with it. It was variable but on average about every 20 mins or so. My buddy thought it was probably due to overfilling with fluid so he had it flushed but the problem still remains. He thinks it gets worse as it heats more. We're not sure what the problem is.
View 4 RepliesLexus GX 2010+ :: 2013 - High Pitch Sound When Cruising Above 70 Mph
My 2013 GX makes this noise when I step on the gas padel when the speed is 70 mph or higher. It is not very loud but noticeable, even with the radio on. I noticed this these past two days on highway. There is no such sound during local drive or speed below 70. It sounds like it came from the engine compartment, but I am not 100% sure. Is this normal? Could it be from the wheels or chassis? My truck only got 1800 miles after 2 months driving.
View 14 RepliesSonata I45 (LF 2015+) :: Engine Vibrate And Sound Strained While Cruising
Eco model (1.6T/DCT). driven 17k miles.
My biggest concerns seem to be the DCT transmission. It's....rough to say the least. It jerks and makes terrible noises in parking lots, which can be quite embarrassing if someone else is in the car. Just today, someone said "is your car okay?" I understand that DCT's are different, but I have driven this car since brand new, and it was never this bad.
The car also seems to shift to a gear that is too high for the speed, making the engine vibrate and sound strained while cruising. This problem occurs around 1500 RPM with the gas pedal pressed and just driving along. I can easily reproduce the issue by putting the car in manual mode, selecting the highest gear possible and then trying to accelerate without hitting the kick-down on the accelerator.
I use synthetic oil from the dealer, changed the air filter already, did the fuel injector cleaner additive and also use ethanol free gas.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Drone Like Sound Right When Hit Around 25 MPH
So I think after 106k miles my VR6 is ready for bearings. It started as a whirring sound from the front drivers side, and now I'm getting a drone like sound right when I hit around 25 mph, almost like someone with exhaust is driving next to me wanting to race. Feels like it's coming from the rear though.
View 2 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: Noise While Cruising
Need to noticeably reducing road/tire noise? I love how civilized and relaxed this car can be, but there is a decent amount of noise while cruising. Nothing extreme, but if I could reduce this by a good amount, without much of a weight penalty, I would certainly consider it. Is dynamat a feasible option? And yes, the soundaktor is long gone.
View 9 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Rattling Sound Under Car When Release Off Gas
Just today i was driving along in my 2.0L golf when I started hearing a rattling coming from under the front end, its a hollow sound that only really is loud when i step off the gas after accelerating, and a faint little rattle when I am idled. I wasn't too bad at first but now its to the pint where i get no exhaust sound coming out of my muffler, currently I have a 2.25" Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system, so I am pretty certain it has to do with probably the resonator or the catalytic converter. Where I can start?
View 2 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Whirring Sound Upon Deceleration
Bought a Jetta GLI 2004.5 in January. 94K miles. No noises accelerating or while coasting (clutch or neutral). However, when I decelerate in 3rd and 4th gear w/ no foot on gas, there is a very apparent whirring sound from the front-end (maybe in the engine bay). But I don't hear it while decelerating in any other gears. What is the cause? I will try and capture sound later when I get home. Just wanted to see if this was a common fault.
View 8 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Knocking Sound From The Turbo?
So, I have a 2005 gti 1.8t, has 110k on it, just did a 3" straight pipe, and while a buddy and I were installing my new pipe, and straight pipe, he said my turbo seals were going bad. I could get the k04 cause it handles better, or get a rebuild kit. Well, today when I give it throttle, it almost makes a knocking sound from the turbo? Not from the front of the car, but at the end of straight pipe, you can hear it in that constant spool. What could this be? Time for the k04. Car has unitronic stage 2, so it gets ran hard sometimes.
View 21 RepliesGolf VI R :: Vibration When Cruising Just Above 70 To 75 Mph From The Rear
Picked up an R about a month ago. Have noticed a harmonic vibration when cruising just above 70 mph to 75 mph from the rear. I can assure you that it is not the wheel balance. Seems to go away if I depress the clutch. I'm thinking it is the butterfly valve on the muffler not fully closing and creating a resonance by fluttering at the rpms (exhaust flow) between 70-75 mph. I haven't tried disconnecting/plugging the vacuum line yet.
View 3 RepliesGolf IV R32 :: Noise From Engine Bay When Cruising Under 20 MPH
I can't stand that noise anymore.. When I cruising under 20mph the noise coming from the engine bay driver side, sometime both sides. I did a search on the forums so I replaced the front control arm bushing, Strut mounts, strut bearings. Yesterday I replaced the 034 transmission mount to OEM mount, I can't believe it the 034 mount last for 10K miles ONLY. But the noise is still there and make me crazy..... Is possible my PSS coilover went bad?

1.8t AWP, driving in any gear, and when i let go of the gas, you hear a ticking sound, as if you're riding a mountain bike and you stop pedaling. That kinda ticking. Is this normal? Have never heard it before.
View 24 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: 2005 - Clunk Sound When Going Into Gear
So I have a 05 mk4 golf 2.0 automatic. Ive noticed that when i take it from park to drive the car shakes and makes a huge clunk sound like I just got hit by something. Turns out it was a motor mount, I think they call it the dog bone cause its attached to the body & engine of the car. So it was replaced but the car still does it. But not as hard & not as much. Before when I revved the car it would kind of shake and dance. Since the replacement it parks still when I rev it. But that noise is still there. Someone told me it could be another mount or the torque converter.
View 2 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Grinding Sound From Rear Wheel
So its been about 2 months since this grinding sound started whenever Im going under 40km/h on my Mk IV Jetta.
Brake pads/rotors that is causing this or something else?
There is a metal/rubber friction smell when I park and get out of the car... It also drifts to the right a little and the alignment was done about 6months ago. I'm guessing its related to the rear breaks or I could be wrong?
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Repetitive Clicking Sound When Get Slower
Driving down the road in my 2001 Jetta GLX VR6 and I slow down as i approach a red light. As I get slower I notice a repetitive clicking sound, i apply my brakes and it stops. So now Im curious so Im driving around doing about 20mph trying to find out what the hell this sound is. I know two things! Its coming from my drivers side front, and when I apply my brakes it stops. It clicks driving straight, turning, coasting with the car in neutral. My steering rack just blew out on me, so driving around with no powering steering and I have a click. I am not troubleshooting all day tomorrow. I don't have any vibrations, or what not.
