Golf VI R :: How To Install Intake Heat Shield
I have a CTS Turbo intake and have recently purchased a heatshield. It did not come with instructions. I tried installing it this weekend and it was a no go. I'm assuming the pieces for the factory engine cover in the rear is what the heatshield needs to replace to bolt on. I couldn't get those off for the life of me.
View 5 RepliesGolf VI R :: Significant MPG Decrease After Neuspeed Intake Install
My MPG has fallen ~ 35% since the intake was installed. Barely did 20mpg driving at 75mph from Vegas to LA and now averaging about 17mpg on the next tank. What should I be looking for? I'm stage 1 APR (was before the Neuspeed as well) stage 1.
View 11 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: CEL After Intake Install - Codes P0101 And P150A
Installed Forge Twintake on my GTI, CBFA engine code. Have had it installed for 2 weeks now, it was running funny ever since, idling was weird and every time I shifted I felt it through the clutch. Throttle response and acceleration was fine though. Yesterday driving to work the CEL came on, I scanned it today and got P0101 MAF VAF and got P150A idle speed control. I was thinking about cleaning the MAF sensor to see if that was the problem but it doesn't seem like that would solve the problem of it running weird. Was also considering reinstalling the stock intake and seeing how it ran then and or if the CEL went off.
View 6 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: Gauge Not Reading Full Boost After VF Intake Install
I installed a VF intake a few weeks back and noticed my car is peaking at around 14-15 PSI max according to my boost gauge, when it used to hit 17 peak. I'm not sure if I may have a leak nor have I checked it via vag-com.
It does feel a bit off, but for as far as I know the gauge could be messed up now.
Just wondering if there would be any immediate signs (sounds etc...) of whether there would be a leak, or what other problems may cause this.
Golf VI R :: Rattle Noise Coming From CAI After Turbo-back Install
Is it normal to have this rattle noise that is coming from the CAI which i never noticed before? This only happened after installing a turbo back and car runs fine. It just sounded like marble got sucked in the intake or 2 thick plates banging. I am pretty sure its not the heat shield for the filter also because i tried holding that and looked at that part. Went under the car too but i cant pinpoint where its coming from but maybe inside the engine?
[URL] ....
I also got a pronounce rattling at 2000 rpm when I let go of the gas that's located maybe at the bottom passenger side. I am thinking fuel lines?
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: 2.0T Feels Slower After Intake Install?
I just installed an Injen intake to my Sonata 2.0T, but now it doesn't feel as quick off the line. It sounds incredible but idk.. just feels a little sluggish now..
View 6 RepliesPhaeton :: Engine Oil Seepage At Turbo Air Intake
My 3.0 TDI has developed an oil seepage between the air intake damper and the turbo air intake. The oil comes from the blow-by gases hose that connects the cyclonic oil separator to the air intake damper. There is a "hat" type gasket that slides into the air intake damper, prior to fitting it to the turbo air intake, so I bought an OEM replacement gasket and fitted it last weekend. I have just checked it and there is still oil seeping from the very same location. Now I wonder if there might be an issue with the cyclonic oil separator itself...
View 6 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: P0488 Code After Intake Elbow Install
Anyways, I've been doing a lot of work on my 6.0 2004 Ford Excursion lately, and recently installed my Sinister Diesel intercooler pipes and intake elbow, and had to remove my throttle body completely to do so. I know that the 2004 models throw codes when removed, and that's what I'm here for. Mine isn't dogged down and actually runs even smoother with my new piping and intake, but I want to get rid of this code.
Is there any tune out there that can erase it? For some reason my Edge Insight CTS2 sees the code, but my SCT X4 flash tuner doesn't see the P0488 code. I know people have discussed this topic several times, but after hours of reading through posts I never found any solution to this. All I need is a way to delete the code because I don't like having my CTS2 with a trouble code for something I did on purpose!
Golf IV R32 :: Loud Whooshing Sound / Vibration After Intake Mod
Couple days ago I took out the factory air box and cut the bottom out. I also cleaned my K&N filter at the same time. I cut the whole bottom edge to edge up to about 2" from the flapper on the motor side of the box. Re-installed and everything is tight. I drove the car and noticed a LOUD or what I consider loud noise from about 3,000rpm to redline. I am thinking it could be just the additional air being sucked from the air box. However its much louder then I would expect from a CAI. Does a CAI make a loud difference? I noticed a increase in performance so I know its working. Also, it could be described a a light, smooth sounding exhaust leak. But I am susceptible since this problem was not their prior to the intake mod.

I have a small clicking sound coming from my intake manifold. I recently installed a boost gauge and it did it once after that... I shut the car off and I didn't hear again until 1000 miles later and its back, why it would be clicking like this but its annoying
View 6 RepliesGolf/GTI VII :: Intermittent Clunking Sound From Rear Suspension After VWR Spring Install
I recently got an MK7, coming from a MK5, and I installed the VWR springs 8 days ago. Since then I've noticed an intermittent clunking sound coming from the rear suspension. I installed springs on my MKV without any issues and again on several other cars, soIi'm familiar with the process. Everything was torqued to spec after the install.
My best description of the sound would be a clunk, not any rattling, clicking, or squealing. The sound is greater in the passenger side rear than the drivers side rear. No issues with anything up front. Sometimes it occurs when I'm turning the steering wheel while backing out of parking spots and driving slowly, other times when I hit bumps in the road, but it is not constant nor does it seem dependent on the size of the bump/pot holes in the road.
What may be causing this? My plan was to give it a week for everything to settle before I tore everything apart to look for any culprit.
Golf VI R :: No Turbo Boost - Weird Sound When Hit The Gas
I have a 2012 R with 85,000 miles, APR chip running 93 octane with a HPFP and VWR cold air intake. I was driving my car today (slow driving on highest) and all of a sudden I felt no turbo boost, and heard a weird sound whenever I hit the gas. Car moved but would not get above 3500 rpms and couldn't really get past 60 mph. Again, absolutely no boost (I have a boost gauge as well to verify).
About to drop off the car at a shop but had a couple questions:
1. If the turbo is blown, can I still drive the car to the shop (not too far) without damaging the engine itself?
2. if the turbos needs to be replaced, what are my options besides getting the stock turbo replaced, without getting some crazy setup? This is my daily driver and I don't want to spend money beyond what I need to get it fixed, but it there is a stronger more reliable turbo for about the same as a OEM, I would want to consider... Also price for OEM replacement??
3. Without the mechanic looking at it, I'm just assuming it's the turbo but what else could be the issue? All the lines looks intact and intake is fitted correctly. I did have issues with my cam follower getting damaged at 45,000 miles (there was a hole in it) and I have been replacing it every 20,000 miles since. Didn't have any issues for 40,000 additional miles, but could damage to that cause turbo failure?
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Knocking Sound From The Turbo?
So, I have a 2005 gti 1.8t, has 110k on it, just did a 3" straight pipe, and while a buddy and I were installing my new pipe, and straight pipe, he said my turbo seals were going bad. I could get the k04 cause it handles better, or get a rebuild kit. Well, today when I give it throttle, it almost makes a knocking sound from the turbo? Not from the front of the car, but at the end of straight pipe, you can hear it in that constant spool. What could this be? Time for the k04. Car has unitronic stage 2, so it gets ran hard sometimes.
View 21 RepliesGolf/GTI VII :: Turbo Winding And Slight Blow Off Sound?
I got my APR ECU & APR Intake done at the same time about a month ago. After both the upgrades I hear the turbo winding and a slight blow off sound more between shifts. Is this due to intake or ecu tune? My brother drove my car yesterday and asked me however I told him I'm not sure...
View 1 RepliesGolf VI R :: New Buzz Sound When Accelerating - Turbo Failing?
yesterday my r began making a new buzzing sound when accelerating. ive researched and i guess it does somewhat sound like a quick blow into a harmonica. I am pretty aware of the sounds my car makes and am sure that this is completely new. the noise only occurs under load around 2800-3000 when boost comes on and then things go back to normal.
i have been tuned UM stage 1 since july and have never experienced this noise before yesterday.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 1.8t Turbo - Hissing Sound When Accelerating
There's this 1.8t gti I'm buying this week from a family member and we've been trying to solve an issue that we ran into. When accelerating the car there is a hissing noise, safe to say that it is air. Then when accelerating a little harder and you feel the turbo pulling you everything seems fine. But a second or so after , the turbo dies off and so does the hissing noise. Then I can let go of the gas and repeat the process and it happens again.
My issue is that I cant figure it out since I Need to be driving to hear the hissing and the turbo cut off. I looked around the threads but nothing really seems to match my issue. No codes either. On top of that I've never owned a 1.8t and don't know much about its turbo.
Golf/GTI VI :: 2010 - Funky Engine Noise?
I noticed this once about a month ago while I will sitting in my car at work after lunch, but haven't noticed it since. Its a weird rubbing type of noise thats hard to describe, but I never heard it again so forgot about it. Today after driving home from school I heard it again and made a video of it. It starts becoming really noticeable at around 15sec in.
Am I just being OCD?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: High Pitched Noise / Whoosh Sound From Intake At Low Rpm When Car Is Cold
I have a 2002 jetta 1.8t with unitronic stage 2 ECU and following mods:
ssqv BOV with recirc fitting (so acts like a DV)
3 inch open downpipe
Water/Meth injacetion (-35c washer fluid)
Short ram intake+heat sheild.
Spring loaded wastegate.
So for a while now I could hear a very quiet high pitched sound along with a whoosh sound from the intake at low rpm when the car is cold, after 5-10 minutes of driving the sound changes to where i just hear the wooosh from the intake, no high pitched.
I went out, let my car park for about an hour or 2 in 0c temp. went to drive it,everything is fine, the car just hit 90c. so i floored it, but traction control was on and i have winter tires, so it barley got to 4k rpm. CEL started flashing, no throttle control, really annoying high pitched sound from engine bay with lightest touch of throttle. the trubo was boosting to 22 psi and holding up to 16 PSI at redline before this happened.
The car would struggle to stay at idle, massive vibrations. but after reeving to 2k+ rpm no issue staying at that rpm, no blue/black smoke from exhaust. i scanned it and only got misfire codes and this strange code : "17925 - power supply relay for ecu (J271 or J363): electrical malfunction"
I had to clear the codes 3-4 times and restart the car 3 times for the power supply relay code to go away. but all the misfires, the high pitched sound stayed. it would misfire while driving, then stop, and then again.
I also logged with VCDS, and flooring it from 2k rpm to 2.6k rpm resulted in 0 extra boost over idle (idle boost was 980mbar).
Is my turbo blown 100% because of that sound, or could it be something else causing the "dentist drill" sound? And what about the power relay issue for ECU, could this cause any of the symptoms?
Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Removing Air Filter Intake At Turbo
Dumb question but how do I remove the air filter intake from the turbo Its a little oily there from a fuel or oil leak but I dont see a clamp holding it on the turbo?
Also what is the e clip? Is it the little thing holding the wastegate rod on the exhaust turbine? Can I just pull the rod up off the clip?
