Golf/GTI VI :: Suspension Clunk After VWR Spring Install

I just had a set of VWR springs installed on my 2011 GTI (35,xxx).

I've noticed a very discernible clunk coming from the driver's side front wheel particularly when traveling over a dip in the road (when the spring and suspension is extending). The sound only comes from the one wheel well - the other three sound fine.

I'm bringing it in for an alignment tomorrow (recommend after the spring install). Sounds almost like a bad bushing?

Golf/GTI VII :: Spring Binding Popping Noise After Neuspeed Race Spring Install

This noise I have is driving me crazy, installed neuspeed race springs and now I have this weird spring noise, sounds like the springs are binding and then releasing when you turn the wheel, like a clicking dinging noise, it's on both sides and happens when moving slow and turning the wheel and when stationary and turning wheel, it sounds like tug and release not really spring bind I checked install and everything is correct even disassembled bearing assembly and everything is fine, lubed spring seats with silicone paste nothing is working.

When looking at the spring and turning wheel it's almost like the spring is getting stuck on the middle part of the seat then releasing, I know this was a common problem on the mk6 but I haven't heard anything about the mk7 the spring is seated in the lower perch perfectly the upper is were the noise is coming from you can see as you turn the upper bearing by hand it actually somewhat twists the spring and then releases and that's what makes the noise, and it dose not move in a nice circular motion kind of like an egg shaped rotation and it makes the spring flex and pop I think there's a problem with the springs,

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Rear Suspension Rattle After Coilover Install

This previous weekend, my buddies and I finally got my FK coilovers installed on my GTI. I have heard that people say there is a little bit of rattling upon them getting properly seated. Well it has been 4 days of driving and now sounds like the rattling has gotten worse! I took it into a local suspension shop and they couldn't put a thumb on it. We in-turn found out that my rear hub bearing was going out and has since been replace. Having issues with coilovers? I have contacted the company that I purchased them through already and am awaiting feedback from them.

Pic of the car in question. (Before coilovers)...

Honda - Pilot :: 2005 - Clunking Sound From Rear Suspension

My 2005 Honda Pilot has 125k miles and has developed an occasional clunking sound from the rear suspension. It seems to happen around sharp turns or when the rear suspension is unloaded, like hopping over railroad tracks, or when going over short/sharp bumps. It is inconsistent, in that it does not happen all the time. I was checking and checking for loose parts for months and tugging on suspension parts like arms, links, sway bar, etc. I find nothing loose or clunking or showing signs of loose connections.

Today, I was checking with the car on jack stands and found the "hubs" or sheetmetal covers that the CV boots are clamped to are loose at the differential. I believe this is the sound of the noise. They rotate with the rear wheels and kind of clunk around with some manual pressure applied.

Are they a typical source of trouble? Are they easy to replace? Are they nothing to worry about or is this a precursor to the axles falling out?

Golf IV R32 :: Intermittent Clunking From The Rear

So over the past few weeks my R has developed an intermittent clunking from the rear. It only happens at the beginning of a drive and very seldom does it do it after lets say 5-10 minutes of driving. At first I thought there might be something rolling around in the hatch, I ruled that out fast as I took everything out and it was still there. Then I thought since there was snow up here and I was playing in it I might have unbalanced a wheel but alas the weights are still stuck on and they haven't lost any weights so that is no go. I was able to get under it tonight and I checked all the bolts I could get to and they are all tight and there is no signs of scraping or stuff jiggling around, all the boots are good to go also no tears or holes in them.

The only thing that looked somewhat out of place was the bushing on the right rear swaybar endlink is mushroomed a bit but it doesn't seem like that would cause a clunking. I noticed my e-brake was sticking a little bit due to the cold but as soon as I press firmly on the brakes it goes away and I doesn't seem like that would make a clunking sound either.

I am doing a haldex fluid service as soon as the stuff gets here in the mail but I doubt that would cause clunking from the right outsides. The car has 98k miles and is on stock suspension, It doesn't seem to me that they could be bad already, and It doesn't always do it over bumps in the road.

Golf IV R32 :: Clunking Sound From Right Front Suspension When Going Over Bumps

I have a clunking noise from the right front suspension when going over bumps. I've replaced the Strut bushings that were collapsed, the control arm bushings that had play and the noise is still there. There is no play in the links. There is a slight noise in the sway bar bushings when struck with a rubber mallet. I hate to keep replacing parts chasing down this noise.

Golf/GTI VII :: How To Install VER Spring

I'm having trouble getting the strut back through the steering knuckle. I used the 1/4 ratchet to spread it and get the strut out but I can't get the strut to go back after installing the VWR spring. I've tried speaking with many tools now and it's just so damn stuck. I hope I haven't damaged anything by hammering a wedge into the point where the ratchet is supposed to spread it. After a couple of tries the ratchet doesn't seem to spread it at all.

Golf IV R32 :: Loosen Sound - Rear Spring Collapsing?

I got bilstein PSS9's at waterfest this year and it has been on my car for approx. 7k miles and I think I am experience the problems that people say about the rear spring collapsing. Whenever i drive on a bumpy road, it sounds like something is loose in the rear specifically the drivers rear. I thought it was the heat shield but i had that tightened and the sound is still there. My rear end is not even lowered alot. I turned the coil about 1-2 times. the front is even lower than the rear. I don't know whats up but its frustrating me. I also have 20mm spacers in the rear, would that have to do anything that is causing this sound.

Golf/GTI VI :: 2012 - Rear Popping / Clunking Sound

I have a 2012 GT lowered on st coil overs. I'm getting a popping/clunking sound coming from the rear. It happens at random times. In turns, going over bumps, straight, and on flat surfaces. I thought it might be the dreaded subframe clunk so I got the Tyrol sport deadset rigid kit and that didn't work. I have tried raising and lowering the car with the coil over adjustments and it makes the noise still. I have also taken the rear coil overs completely off two times to inspect them and all mounts both times using new bolts and retorqued to spec. Also while i had them off I have jerked and pushed on everything they are attached to see if there is any play in anything. I see no signs of anything bumping or rubbing under the back end and the sound is getting worse.

Golf/GTI VII :: Clunking Sound Coming From Rear While Braking?

I have been getting a clunking sound coming from the rear of the car while braking. it was louder and more frequent before a few things were done by the dealership in an attempt to fix it, however i still have the noise fairly often during normal driving. This is three months into the issue and i still don't have a solution from the dealer or VW. Things that have been done so far by dealership:

1. replaced left and right side rear caliper brackets

2. replaced rear brake pads

3. surfaced rear rotors

All of the above were recommended by vw, according to the dealership. there are notes on the last invoice that the noise was described as "pad slap." everyone involved is acting as if this is a great unsolvable mystery, which seems ridiculous on a new car. i first came to the dealer with the problem with 512 miles on the car.

Just got the car back this past thursday from the dealearship, 2 and 3 from the list above were completed, and they were "unable to replicate noise" during a test drive. after driving around over the weekend i've confirmed that the noise is still present (though less loud and less frequent), and was able to capture it on video--after the turn signal turns off: [URL] ....

i'm not the most knowledgable or mechanically inclined when it comes to cars, so i don't really know what to think of this. google searches turn up that many people have issues with clunking sounds from floating calipers, some say that it's normal, other that it's not. this is my first new car, first car with floating calipers, first VW, so i feel i'm coming at this pretty blind.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Rear Clunking Sound After Coils Installed

Last Saturday, my mechanic friend and I spent the day installing WRD coils on my 2003 Wolfsburg edition Jetta. Took us longer than we thought but we got it all done and we set them at 3/4 max for lowness. I don't want to go any lower and I will probably raise a little bit soon.

Anyways, when I started driving I noticed a rear clunking sound, it's especially noticeable at slower speeds. Every single tiny little bump and sounds like someone is dropping boxes in my trunk. I checked my trunk and took everything out and that still didn't work. When my car is stationary and I get out and push on the rear to test the shocks I hear the sound.

Golf IV R32 :: Popping And Clunking Noise From Passenger Side Spring / Mount Area

I had the struts replaced a few months ago along with the strut mounts and bearings. Since then I've developed a popping and clunking noise from the passenger side spring/mount area. I've greased it and it has quieted it down but I noticed that when the car is not moving and I turn the wheel from lock to lock that very top piece of the strut pretty sure it's called the hat moves along with the wheels while the drivers side does not. What's wrong? Is it something as simple as the nut being to lose or to tight?

Golf IV R32 :: Rear Suspension Thud Sound When Going Over Uneven Surfaces

I have coilovers on my R32 with adjustable control arms and have been noticing a "thud" type of noise when going over uneven surfaces which appears to be coming from the rear.

I actually periodically noticed this noise when I first got the PSS's put on my car when going over larger bumps/dips in the road but lately it is becoming much more pronounced - occurring over uneven surfaces like parking ramps or driving over crappy roads. Over smooth surfaces, no problem.

Thought it was my rear sway bar bushings since they were making a really bad creaking noise, got those replaced and still noticing this damn noise.

Golf/GTI VI :: Rough Clunking Noise After 034 Density Strut Mount Install

Setup: WRD Street Advantage Coilover kit. Installed and sit at 24.75" all around. 034 Density mounts and new bearings. 19,xxx mi.

7 weeks ago I installed WRD Street Advantage coils. The install went great, no problems. Drove a week or so and decided to replace the strut mounts with 034's density strut mounts and new bearing to get rid of the creaking sound at low speed. Ordered them and put them on this weekend. After driving it I realized the creaking of the old weaker strut mount was gone. However, I inherited a rough clunking or knocking sound (as if something is loose and moving around), which seems to be coming from my passenger side. This happens at all speeds and not specific to turning the wheel. I unistalled/reinstalled everything in the front 4 times and went through everything with a fine tooth comb, but can't find anything loose. All bolts are torqued to spec.

I even removed the sway bar end links and drove it, still there. So it's not the end links. I also tried using the OEM endlinks which are longer than the ones from WRD to increase the space between the axle and the sway bar, possibly thinking it was hitting and causing the noise. No luck, still there. The only thing I noticed is that with the car on jack stands the strut mount is tight to the body but I still have slight play in the spring and it's perch. Is that normal? I'm assuming under load it's tight again. So the only variable in my situation is the new Density Mounts and bearing, can these cause heightened noises due to the increased heardness of the mounts?
