Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Check Engine Light Came On While Towing - Code P0299
He has a 2013 F-150 XLT with the Ecoboost. He has 29,000 miles on the truck.
He is ~1,300 miles into his trip; and has about another 4,500 to go! On Friday, his check engine light came on (while towing). The next day it went back off. Yesterday, the light came back on (while not towing this time). He took the truck into a Ford Dealer in Rapid City, SD this morning. The CEL light was still on this morning when he arrived at the dealership. The dealership said the code is P0299 - Turbo Underboost.
They said they've run tests and can find nothing wrong. Naturally, he is not very happy being this far from home with 3 more weeks of vacation left and his truck acting up. Especially since the CEL light is on but the dealer can find nothing wrong. I'd be puckered-up too!
Experienced this Turbo Underboost condition? What was the cause? How can the CEL light be on but the dealership not be able to find a problem?

I'm at a loss here with my 2011 Sonata. 2.0 Engine blew last Oct took dealer 3 months to finally get that taken care of. Had car back for just a month and while hammering down to pass a truck something popped and and the car lost about 1/2 its power.Car would only do about 75 mph floored no power.Gut less on hills even more so.Took to local Hyundai dealer and the performed the usual test etc said they were getting a P0299 code supercharger under boost code.Other test revealed a internal intermittent short with the turbo,so they decided to change turbo.After new turbo installed car has slightly more power but nothing compared to what it should be.Can't even hit 100 mph with it ! Told dealer car still not right,they told me all is working as it should be lol...When ya get on the gas ya hear a slight whining noise like a turbo whining it made this noise before they change old turbo as well.To me it as is there is no boost what so ever but yet they say all is ok..

What to do 2011 F550 RampTruck 11,850 miles on it the vehicle has been back to the dealer 5 times for the same trouble code P0299. After the last time it was in they had it for 2 weeks seemed to be fixed. Last week one of my drivers was towing a Chevy S10 50 or so miles and heard a very faint ticking like a stone in the tire that got instantly worse and before he could pull over started rapping and stalled out. We towed it back to the dealer they removed the Cab disassembled the engine and found a "blown piston" is there quote. What should we do about this problem the dealer is supposedly fighting with Ford and Ford doesn't want to put in a new engine.They want to fix it instead....

Does the 2011 6.2 have a DPFE sensor? If so where is it located? Codes are lean bank one and two and random misfire. Suggestions I have read online are replace DPFE sensor. I don't think maybe there is one on a 2011 6.2. Who have had it and had it fixed. Other things I see are clean the MAF sensor. Look for vacuum leaks.
View 1 RepliesFord F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2011 - Wrench Light On With P0720 Code?
I'm having issues when shifting into reverse and I it goes into limp mode when the wrench light shows up. This will not happen when shifting into Drive. When in limp mode I get engine code P0720. This calls for a bad Output Speed Sensor and my research says the sensor is on the back of the transmission but I cannot find any sensors on the transmission. there are several connectors clipped to it but I don't see any bolted in sensors. Also I cannot find a replacement sensor anywhere so I'm wondering if this is a generic code.

At 65 mph, egt was running between 1050-1150, turbo at 13-14 psi, rpm 2300. Code p0299 pops up. Before this the turbo would spool up to 28 psi going up hills. After it would not go over 16 and sounded funny. Truck is a 2005 excursion 4x4 with just under 200k miles . Trailer is about 10k pounds. No tuner. What do I need to be looking into? Is this too much for the truck to handle?
View 8 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: P0299 Code While Highway Driving?
I just got back from a trip across the state to see the Miami boat show! Truck was running just fine on the trip over, EOT/ECT delta around 9* (seems a little high to me, Im hoping because im running 35's, but can someone back me up on this?)
On the trip back, cruising at 70, I noticed the check engine light went on... I didn't have it under heavy throttle or obscure circumstances... My ScanGauge 2 showed that I had a P0299, which as Ive read means something relating to underboost?
I cleared the code. And the CEL never showed again in the last 100 miles... Could this just be a quirk? Or should I be more worried about it?
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Code P0299 Appears On Cold First Start Of Day
Can a leaking Y Pipe throw a P0299? Dealership says that is my problem. My MAP at idle is 14.4 EBP is 17 - 18. At 60mph MAP is 20 EBP is 26-28. Boost is 10-20 .. Truck drives great no apparent issue. P0299 only code and appears when cold first start of day. If I clear it it goes away for the rest of the day and only comes back occasionally. Twice in 5 days only at cold start. 2005 F350, 100% stock, Ford filters all. Scan guage 2 for readings....
View 10 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2005 - Code P0299 Under Boost Condition
I'm having a little trouble with my 05 Excursion 6.0L .... We took off camping the other day pulling our 30' camper and the engine light came on pretty much as soon as we hit the highways. I checked my Dash boss and it came up as P0299 under boost condition. The truck never skipped a beat. The boost gauge never dropped and it seemed to have lots of power. Actually I've noticed too much boost while pulling. It's climbed up to 36psi before and was still climbing when I backed off the throttle. I'm thinking the turbo is fine but not sure what to check next.
View 7 RepliesSaturn - Vue :: OBD Code - Car Is Giving P0016 And P0017
The car is giving me P0016 and P0017 codes. I have read up on them, and it appears 17 could point to 16 being the culprit. Regular service, oil changes when the car says it is time. Vehicle has 90k miles. This is the 4 cyl engine. So, what am I most likely looking at? One or both sensors? Basically, is there a common problem associated with this vehicle and these codes that I can begin looking at?
View 2 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: Crankshaft / Cam Position Code P0016
I have a 2006 Prius with over 300k miles. I recently started getting the crankshaft/cam position code P0016. The car is driving fine, but it does burn about a quart of oil every 800 miles. It looks like a lower mileage engine can be had for about $500-600 including freight. I'm thinking my best option is probably to swap out the engine. I saw our local resident expert Wong suggested replacing the transaxle too when doing an engine replacement since it does not add any significant labor and tends to be a more common source of problems than the engine. I'm not sure how much doing that would add to the bottom line.

P0016 - Crankshaft Position | Camshaft Position Correlation
Bank 1 Sensor A
2006 Passat - 3.6L V6
Here is my issue: I was lazy and waited a bit too long to get my oil changed. I finally did 3 days ago. I have been very busy so I decided to take it to a local mechanic to let them take care of it. They flushed the oil, ran other oil through it with a new oil filter, flushed that, then put in new synthetic oil with another new oil filter. They also replaced the air filter.
Everything was fine for 2 days.
Then, while I was driving in stop and go traffic, the "EPC" and "Engine Malfunction" lights came on. There was also a loss of power and the car seems to wait too long to shift gears.
So, I took it back to the mechanic who had it a few days prior. He pulled the code from it (posted at the top), and cleared the code from the car. That mechanic told me that I need a "cam position indicator sensor". He also claimed that what he did had nothing to do with this issue. I decided to check with the dealer. He cleared the code and I left. After clearing the code, the car drove fine for most of that day, then it returned.
I spoke with the VW dealership's shop manager and he said that he does not believe that is the issue at all and asked me to bring it in. He also mentioned a clogged oil line as being the potential culprit.
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Air Leak / Slow Turbo Response / Code P0299
I am fairly new to working on diesel engines. I was towing a camp trailer and got a P0299, Turbo Charger Underboost engine code. I never gotten any other codes other than this one when towing. I decided to pull the turbo and clean the vanes. Everything seemed to go back together good but now I hear what sounds like an air leak coming from the turbo area. The boots on the intercooler pipe are in good shape, I only loosened the clamps at the intercooler and the turbo. Left the boots on the pipe. I have tightened the clamps around the exhaust pipe connections with no change. I also seem to get a slower response from the turbo and possibly not as much psi as normal (according to dashboard gauge). I have driven the truck five or ten miles trying to work the turbo and have not gotten any engine codes to this point.
View 7 RepliesPassat (B5) :: CEL Is On - Code P0299
The 1.8 passat turbo has 60k miles on it.
CEL is on, shop says it is code P0299 (I have read this code being called the "underboost" code). Local shop also wanted $1500++ to put on a new turbo. Car is driving and responding just fine.
I have searched high and low and can't find definitive answers to these questions.
I have read some posts indicating that replacing the Waste Gate Valve has improved performance and turned off the CEL. Can you replace this valve on the 1.8 without replacing the whole turbo?
Where is this valve in the engine compartment? Can I just clean it? CEL code 0299, car behaving normally, shop telling you that your need to replace the turbo?
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Black Smoke / Low Boost / Loud Hiss - Code P0299
Last night when I was towing my son's Ranger home - somebody stole all his gas & he thought the fuel pump quit - heard a pop and the truck started running like crap. Thought I had blown the CAC boot loose but that wasn't the case. As it turns out, the tube for the EBP sensor came off from the manifold.
I had taken it loose about a year ago to clean it out. I guess I didn't tighten it well enough. Truck blew black smoke, lost boost, and filled the cab with exhaust fumes. Easy enough fix, kind of hard to diagnose because that's not expected. Just throwing it out the for somebody's future search.
Lexus RX 2004-09 :: Code P0016 After Timing Belt Change
After timing belt change code P0016 with Check engine light trac off and VSC light on.
Put on the entire kit...timing belt,tensioner, idler, and water pump. When I took it apart to put the new cam crank sensor I inspected everything and all looked good.
Changed the sensor and reset code, a few hours later back on. Car seems to run fine. I didn't think the sensor was bad. Car was running great...just due for timing belt.
TrailBlazer :: 2004 Extremely Rough Idle - Code P0016
My brother-in-law brought me his 2004 Trailblazer that had an extremely rough idle and would die if ya thought about the air conditioner and all! So he had replaced the cam sensor, didn't work. He replaced the spark plugs didn't work. He replaced the fuel filter didn't work. So he asked me about it and ran across a fella talking about the CAM ACTUATOR SOLENOID and explained all about what to look for and such and low and behold new solenoid later purrs like a new one!!! It is look right above the power steering pump there is a plug in the side of the engine there with electric wires running to it.
One of the signs of being bad is oil inside that 2 wire plug just pull it off and look in it. Now to remove it you will have to take the power steering pump loose so it will move back out of the way so you can pull the solenoid out of the engine if ya get it out look on the end there are grooves running around it with little screens on them see if any are gone or coming apart, this usually sets a P0016 code which is stuff interfering with the sensors inside. If there is any oil in the plug or any screens missing then it will have to be replaced.
