Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Vibration When Braking / Truck Almost Flutters In The Front End
I recently purchased a used 2006 Ford F-150 (5.4l RWD). I was fully aware of a problem with the brake rotors when I bought the truck from a dealership. They supposedly changed the rotors and the rotors appear to be new...But every time I brake the truck almost flutters in the front end. I haven't noticed vibration while on the highway, only when braking. I am worried because I can fix it I just cant seem to figure out what the problem is.

2008 2wd 4.6L 98K miles F150 for the past few weeks has been humming with a rhythmic vibration which feels like it is coming from driver's side front wheel. It doesn't do it constantly, nor at all speeds. Once I hit about 25mph, you can start to hear a humming. At 35, slight vibration. Between 50-60, heavier vibration. Sometimes at 65+, it subsides quite a bit. Both front rotor assemblies are newer, and I put in a brand new left because I thought it was a bad bearing.
View 5 RepliesCamry :: 2008 V6 XLE - Front End Vibration Between 40 And 50 Mph
I wanted to make a quick post to talk about a possible solution to a front end vibration on a 2008 V6 Camry XLE. The vibration seemed to only show up between 40 and 50 mph and was more intense when accelerating harder. I drove it like that a good while thinking that a tire rotation and balance would fix it, but when I got that done the vibration was unaffected and as bad as ever.
After some searching here and in other places online, I thought it might be related to a warped brake rotor or other brake issue. I also found some information about bent axles and issues with CV joints. This thread sounded the most like what I was experiencing. 2008 Camry front end vibration
Yesterday my father in law and I replaced the passenger side axle/CV joints as well as the brakes on all four corners. The vibration seems to have been eliminated. There was a definite difference in the amount of slop of the new CV joints and the originals on the car. There was also evidence that the CV joint closest to the center line of the car had been leaking grease, even though the boots were all intact.
All in all it was a fairly inexpensive and straightforward repair. The new CV/axle unit was around $80 and fit perfectly. The only issue we had was finding a socket that would fit the 12pt 32mm nut that was originally on the car. The replacement came with a 6pt nut that was much easier to deal with. From start to finish, the CV/axle replacement probably took less than 2 hours and didn't require any weird specialty tools or knowledge.
The only odd issue was the brake pads that came off of the car. They hardly looked used at all. Compared to the pads we replaced them with, they couldn't have had more than 10% of their thickness worn away. The odd part of that is that this car has 178,000 miles on it and these were the original brakes from the factory. Pretty wild stuff.
Other than normal wear items like tires and oil changes, this is the first real work the car has ever needed since I bought it new in late 2008. That kind of dependability is why I'm passing this car on to my mother in law and just purchased a used 2012 that is a carbon copy of the 2008.
Passat (B6) :: 2008 - Vibration Under The Front Between 15 And 35 Mph
Okay, so I'm now up to 154,000 miles on my '08. Not doing too bad replacing the the intercooler, starter, rear brakes (3rd set), rotors, front brakes (1st set at 135k ) and some other regular maintenance over the last 30k or so. Started getting some vibration under the front between 15 and 35 mph a couple of months ago. Felt a little slop in the cv area so I replaced the axles. Still getting the vibration, moreso when it's cold than warmed up. Put it up on the rack and feel some serious slop on the passenger side where the shaft enters the trans. I think the bearing in the trans might be the culprit. I'm struggling finding information on pulling the trans and doing a rebuild or even general parts replacements.
View 5 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: Vibration Between 40 - 45 And 52 - 62 Speeds
I recently had u joints and left front wheel hub assembly replaced at a local mechanic. Ever since I have a vibration between 40-45 and 52-62, the vibration can be felt in the steering wheel, the seat and the floor. The mechanic claims I need a new driveshaft as some of the counter weights were starting to rust. I indexed and removed the drive shaft and had it rebalanced at a local machine shop. This did not solve the vibration problem. There is also a transmission leak starting from the extension housing. How I can start to trouble shoot the problem. 04 F150..
View 2 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: STX With Vibration At Certain Speed 55 - 60 MPH
Recently got in to a 2008 F150 STX.
I started noticing a vibration in the truck when reaching 55-60mph. Anything under that is a smooth ride but like clockwork, once I reach around 55, a vibration I feel in the cabin kicks in.
I just took it to a Ford service dealer around my way and they inspected everything about the tires, including alignment and all was good. That was my first guess and what I heard is most common with this issue.
What would be the next possible culprit? A belt maybe? Kinda lost on where to move forward without spending all kinds of dough on testing.
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Vibration At Speeds Of 15 - 30 Mph
I have had a 2004 Extended Cab F150 5.4L for a few months now. It just started vibrating at speeds between 15 and 30mph on accelerating or deceleration. Doesn't matter if I'm turning or going straight, just those speeds. It's fine otherwise. I put it in gear and held the brake down and brought the rpms up to 3000 to see if it would shake with a load, thinking a possible misfire, but nothing abnormal.
It's an automatic transmission. I started off in 1 and 2 and it seems to lack power until it shifts to 3rd gear - which is about 30mph. It also seems to lack power in reverse ... no slipping, but seems to have to give a lot of gas in order to go over the slightest incline backing up.
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 - Vibration At 75 Kms Throughout The Whole Truck
I'm having an issue with my 2005 f150 xlt. Its been happening for almost near a month and still cant locate the issue .
It has a vibration at 75km throughout the whole truck. Ive tried multiple things done to it by a mechanic, such as having the tires balanced and the ujoints replaced. The problem still persisted and after attempting to test out to see if press/releasing the parking break (my mechani suggested trying that out), my driveshaft fell off.
Apparently the center bearing snapped and cant simply be replaced on the 05's. So i had to get a new driveshaft installed (used, both the 3 mechanics I've gone to say its in good condition).
Even after replacing the driveshaft the issue persists - however it seems a bit softer than it was (I am guessing the old driveshaft was worn from the vibration causing it to be worse). After that I took it to another shop to see if they could locate the issue. They did a driveline inspection and engine inspection too see if a misfire could be the cause.
Again, nothing was found. The only thing they were able to find was that the issue only happens under load and slightly occurs at 40 and 100km as well (although alot softer then the one at 75) and they say they cant find anything physically and it was a mystery to them.
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Rear End Hop / Bounce - Vibration Above 65 MPH
I purchased a used 2008 F150 with 62,000 miles. The truck is in excellent condition and is a crew cab with the short bed and the 4.6 v8 engine. I changed the 17 inch wheels to a set of Ford 18 inch wheels with Goodyear tires that came off another 2008 F150( XLT model). The tires had less than 15,000 miles on them. Since that time I have replaced 3 of the 4 tires because I could not get the tires to balance out properly. I have had all the tires and wheels balanced with the road pressure balance and the front and rear end have both been aligned.
I cannot get the RIGHT REAR of the truck to keep from bouncing and hopping at almost any speed. It changes from day to day a little bit but while slowing down I get the hop vibration( when I apply my brakes) and while at speed ( mostly 45-55) and above 65 I can constantly feel the truck vibrating. It is apparent it is the right rear. I took it back to the dealership where I bought it used , they could not find any issue. At some time, the rear cover to the rear end has been taken off but I cannot find any information through normal channels as to why.
I was by the shop that balanced the tires it is a Goodyear problem. All I know is that I cannot enjoy my ride due to this very apparent hop/bounce from the rear end. The alignment shop said they could not do anything more to make it better. Is there a FIX to this? Is it a problem with this model truck? The truck has 69,000 miles on it now.
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2007 - Vibration From About 45 - 50 And 70 - 80 Speeds
I have a 2007 F150 (2wd) with 80k. My truck recently was vibrating under braking so i took it to my mechanic to have the brakes fixed. All the rotors needed to be replaced. In doing so, the front rotors were changed out with the kit that converts the front rotor/bearing assembly into two separate pieces to cut down on maintenance costs in the future. With this being said, after getting this work done, the truck didn't vibrate anymore... that is until i got it out on the highway. Now the truck vibrates from about 45-50 and 70-80 pretty bad. The steering wheel shakes back and forth too. I have gotten the tires balanced in hopes to fix this problem which it didnt. What could this problem be?

View 6 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: V8 Has Intermittent Freeway Vibration?
I have a 2004 Ford F-150 4x4 5.4 V8 SuperCab. Back in February I lifted my truck with 2.5in coil spacer adapters, out back add a leafs 2-3in. Now I can't say for sure it stated then, but for a while now I have an intermittent freeway vibration. Typically around 70-75mph it is at it peak when it does it. Other times it can be very smooth. The vibration is like an oscillation that you can feel in the body. Not much felt in the steering wheel. The vibration can start and stop any time and last for any amount of time, there is no common point for when it starts and stops. Right or left turns does not cause it to start or stop, sometimes it feels like big bumps will start or stop it but not all the time.
I have a rearview aftermarket camera, I took it off and mounted it several locations to view tires. The fronts are steady while at freeway speed and with the vibration.
After tie rods were changed and no play in any suspension/steering parts, the truck has been aligned several times. Tires are new and have been balanced twice. The driveshaft is new (new U-Joints, shaft and slip yoke) and is balanced, which it did improve the vibration but not perfect. The rear brakes have been inspected, no sign of overheating on the drum or the shoes. The lever is all the way back. So I don't believe it is it, although I did not fully disconnect the cabling. If it was the brakes why would it be intermittent? I had a shop replace all bearings in the rear axle, due to the pinon bearing noise. I saw the TSB's already on vibrations and none conform to my situation. The hubs have been checked, with the engine on they are unlocked.
So as I stated I can't say for sure it started after the lift but maybe due to the lift the differential pinion angle to driveshaft and to the transfer case is too high. Maybe I need some pinion shims. But I haven't heard of anything else needed to do this after a 2-3in lift. I'm getting tired of chasing this vibration.
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2006 - Vibration In The Steering
I have an 06 4x4 lariat 4dr. 5.4L.... bought it used about 6 months ago with 107 K on it, and put a few thousand miles on it. haven't really had any problems with it, but I have noticed that when I break about 45 mph, my steering wheel gets shaky, I've tried reading on some forums but haven't really found anything very useful, and I alot of the information is on the '04 models. And honestly I"m just not really sure what to make of it all, and I don't wanna start replacing random stuff just taking a guess. I live in south texas at the moment and the air here it's salty, so I'm hoping that something just corroded and is warn...My guess is a front bearing.
