Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2000 - Coolant Started Leaking?
My 2000 F150 started leaking from a small pin hole in the coolant bypass pipe that is located on the top / front of the intake manifold, it is the pipe that flows toward the heater core. I decided to remove it without pulling the intake "being lazy". I almost had it and it snapped, while trying to retrieve the piece that was still in the hole It broke and part fell into the intake, I assume into the head in one of the coolant ports. I have removed the intake and still cant seem to see it or retrieve it. I have tried a shop vac, and a magnet wand, still nothing. While pulling a vacuum I noticed that I had flow / suctions from all my cooling ports on both heads, the line from the heater core, and even my top radiator hose.
So I guess my question is, If I cant get this out and it fell into one of the water jackets in my block will it hurt anything??? I know rust and other things end up in there anyway. I still haven't given up on removing, I am really in need of answers,, in case I cant remove it. I do know the flow of coolant is up through the pipe I was trying to replace, and either through the heater core (hose), thermostat, or maybe the bypass back to pump.
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2000 F350 - Loud Pop And Then Grinding / Brakes Locked Up When Pushed On
I am having a major issue with my truck. I replaced all of my brakes about 8 months ago. Replaced everything. Rotors, calipers, pads etc. About 3 weeks ago I pushed on the brakes and they locked up and I heard a loud pop and then grinding. I pulled my wheel and my brake on the right rear had broke the 2 mounting bolts and fell off. So I put the brake back on thinking I hadn't tightened the bolts.
Drove about 7 miles and around the 10th time I stepped on my brakes it did the same thing. So I replaced the brakes again. Calipers caliper mount and pads. I have been driving it 2 weeks and all of a sudden same thing happened. I push on the brakes the right rear locked up and snapped the bolts again. So now I replaced everything rotor calipers etc. Greased everything up and no problems for a day. Do I need to replace the brake mount and where do I get that?

I'm trying to figure out what axle I have on a 2002 f350 single wheel 4x4 so I can order a replacement seal. So this morning I got to work and noticed that am oily guild was dripping from the front of my rear differential where the drive shaft hooks into it. I figure it the seal, so when I went to look up the repair kit they list several different axle options because of gearing, what axle I have as there wasn't a in owners manual with the truck. Who can I find out what axle I have so I can buy the repair kit for it...
View 5 RepliesFord 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: F350 Leaking Fluid / OD Light Start Flashing
Saturday morning my grandpa drove my F350 into town pulling our 4-horse trailer (With living quarters). I wasn't with him, but I was told the following: he started smelling something hot and noticed the O/D light start flashing. Now, this man is not the most intelligent man on the planet and uses the O/D to "slow down the engine" when he starts and stops - i.e. uses it as trailer breaks. I have asked repeatedly for him to quit, but as best as I can tell, he continues to do so.
After the burning smell, a driver pulled up next to him and pointed down - he looked to see smoke and the truck puking fluid everywhere. He said he thought the truck lost power because he couldn't get it to move. Ended up getting it towed. The tow truck driver checked my fluid level and said I had an extremely small amount of transmission fluid left in the truck...which made sense as the fluid was all on the ground underneath, lol. Fluid was NOT red and looked really gross and there was DEFINITE burnt smell to it.
My question is this - what in the world could have caused the truck to do this (I read that is could be from overheating?), and what should be my next course of action? It is home and in my backyard right now (Classy!). It starts and runs fine, but since there is little to no fluid left, you have to hammer down on it to get it to go anywhere. It does move, however.
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2003 F350 - Drive Shaft Noise / Rear Pinion Seal Is Leaking
I was getting ready to replace the carrier bearing and noticed the rear pinion seal is leaking. Before attempting the replacement myself, I would like some opinions on the noise in the video below. Is this normal? I am confidant I can replace the carrier bearing and pinion seal, but not sure I have the tools for anything else.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: U-Joint Cap Came Off - Drain Pan Leaking?
I am currently in a gas station parking lot sitting in my truck on top of a puddle of trans fluid because my u joint caps came off goin 80 down the highway. When i pulled over i noticed the transmission was leaking. I put putted along goin about 5 miles an hour trying to keep the vibrations to a minimum till i came across the next gas station. After further inspection, of course, i saw the caps off of the u joints, but i notice a leak that seens to be coming from my drain pan, like the gasket isnt sealing off. Ive been sitting here for about 2 hours waiting on the tow truck and have made a puddle about 4-5 wide. Why I am losing trans fluid. I don't understand what the u joints busting out has to do with the transmission.

View 4 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2002 - Oil Pan Gasket Leaking?
I brought my 2002 F150 into the shop because of a small oil leak. I thought it was coming from a leak in the gasket of the oil pan which the shop confirmed. I changed the oil and put in the Lucas oil product that can seal leaks in gaskets (sometimes). This didn't work. I continue to have a small oil drip, more annoying than anything. I am not having to add oil continuously.
To change the gasket the shop basically quoted me $1,200 because on this engine size you have to drop the engine etc.
I am looking for alternative solutions, recommendations, etc. I can live with the leak but would prefer to fix.
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Brake Lines Leaking?
Blew a hole in the 3/16 inch line to the rear on the left frame rail, behind the gas tank. Lost all brake function.
Got the truck home and inspected. The line was rusted bad about 6 ft long from the connection at the rear hose to the axle, up to the rear seat area ( crew cab). From the drivers seat forward, the line looks very good. The line across the rear axle from left to right looks very good. I bought two 50 inch standard lines 3/16 inch. Started at the rear hose connection 6 inches behind the gas tank and ran forward to the rear seat area.
Cut about 32 inches of the other 51 inch line and connected and ran forward to below the front seat area. There is a metric connector at this point. I cut an inch in front of it to eliminate it. NAPA sells a high psi compression fitting ( steel , 10,000#) that you can connect two 3/16 inch lines together. I did that under the drivers foot area. I have done two different 2002 F150s in the last year due to this failure. Something to look into. Not nice to loose brakes in traffic.
If your worried about the steel compression fitting, don't. I have used these on several cars and trucks over the last 15 years. Make sure you get the STEEL high pressure compression fitting. Total line replaced on CREW cab, 51 + 32 inches. Pops right back into the original plastic clamps.... I might mention, that is where the failure was, under the plastic clamp at the rear end of the gas tank area.......... crud must collect on the clamp.
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Rear Window Leaking?
My rear window is leaking on my '97 f-150. When it rains water gets in on the passenger side only. I know from reading that this is a common problem. I've tightened up the fasteners that hold the window in place, but it still leaks. Could the high mount brake light be the entry point? Is there supposed to be a gasket behind it? Or is any water that may get behind it supposed to be channeled away somehow?

View 9 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2001 - Radiator Leaking Antifreeze?
Went to start my truck to leave work yesterday and blew the coil on #2. It's happened before and I can fix that. The other weird thing that happened was that the radiator leaked out some antifreeze. Not a lot, but a good 2 foot puddle. The reserve was still full and it leaked from the passenger side at the bottom (below the upper hose). Upper and lower hose show no sign of leakage. I suppose the drain is on the lower end of the passenger side of the radiator and it leaked from there. Would the compression from the engine cause that to happen? Or is it something more, dare I say, like the head gasket blew?

I have a 2001 f150 5.4 4x4 with the 4R70W trans. its leaking fluid from somewhere. its not the pan gasket or the seal. it seems to be coming from the top somewhere. the dipstick tube has new o-rings. and the cooler lines have been replaced and are not leaking either. I haven't gotten into yet to see if its just the gasket or the manifold itself. My question is does anyone know of a set of headers I can put on the truck that will bolt up to the existing exhaust? If I make the switch to headers I don't want to have to redo the whole exhaust system.
