Ford Excursion :: Growl Sound Like Front Left Wheel Bearing
I have been having towing with the X. I have been getting a growl lately sounds like the front left wheel bearing. Today I jacked it up and did the wiggle text. I have a very slight wiggle in both wheels. Is a slight wiggle normal? I know the bearing on the left is more than likely gone as the growl goes away when I jerk the steering wheel. But I haven't heard any noise from the right side yet.
View 14 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2003 - Grinding Sound Like Wheel Bearing Noise
I have a 2003 Sport Trac 4wd with 299,000 miles. There is what sounds like wheel bearing noise (grinding) that was noticed after returning from a trip where I flat towed it behind my rv. I did not notice the noise the last time I drove it - before towing it about 450 miles. I have towed this vehicle for many years and miles this way - transmission and transfer case in neutral with key in on position to unlock steering. I stated this part about the towing because the noise may have gone unnoticed for many miles. About 20,000 miles ago, I changed front wheel bearings, brake calipers, upper and lower ball joints, shocks and outer tie rod ends. Also rear brake pads.
I put the vehicle on jack stands and in drive mode couldn't hear anything in either 2wd or 4wd. I held one wheel at a time so the other side would spin. After checking for wobbling wheel bearings, I took off the wheels and did a push / pull on everything - all seems good. I changed driver's side wheel bearing anyway because I thought it to be a little rough. I removed the front drive shaft and took it out on the road. Noise was still there. This makes me think front differential but before entering unknown territory (for me) is there something else I can do to narrow down the problem? At this point, I'm not even convinced it is from the front end - maybe the sound is radiating through the truck.
Toyota - Corolla :: Wheel Bearing Replaced - High Pitched Clicking Noise Noticeable Around 20 - 30 Mph
I had the front right wheel bearing replaced on my Toyota Corolla (60,000 miles) replaced a couple days ago. One day after the repair, I heard a high pitched clicking noise which was noticeable around 20-30 mph. Yesterday, I still noticed the high-pitched sound but also a grinding/popping sound in front left side when coming to a stop upon every rotation of the tire. Took the car back to the shop to let them listen to the noise, but really weren't very compliant since it doesn't sound like a wheel bearing problem.

Ford Excursion :: Changing Out Front Wheel Bearing Hub Assembly
This past week I changed out the front wheel bearing hub assemblys on both sides. I'm curious if completely disassembled one of the units? If so what did you use to get the large nut with the 4 notches in it off?
View 2 RepliesFord Excursion :: Right Front Wheel Bearing Started To Squeal Around Left Turns
My Excursion has proved to be a reliable winter vehicle, as was the intention. A few weeks back, at 116,000 miles, the right front wheel bearing started to squeal around left turns. Not very loud, so I didn't think it was all that bad, just an indication it was going. I jacked up the front of the truck anyway for good measure, and found a tremendous amount of slop in the bearing. Yeah, the bearing had disintegrated. Time for a replacement.
I bought a new replacement hub off of eBay, and proceeded to start tearing into the thing. Should be an easy repair... Right.
The repair itself is actually straightforward, but I had a few little snags get in my way. The one I'm facing now is that the new hub did not come with replacement studs, and the old hub's studs will not come out. Yes, I tried using a torch (and failed). I got one removed, only to find it's a fine thread and possibly Metric. Either way, it's not something that they have at Lowes.
Where to get more of these, or what the size is so I can order some from McMaster?
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2007 - Speed Related Ticking Sound / Wheel Bearing?
The front driver's side wheel of my 2007 Ext. Cab makes a speed-related "ticking" sound. It's usually audible but not always there. I look for rocks in the tread of my BFG All-Terrains and sometimes I find some, sometimes not. The noise seems to be independent although some of the rocks really get up in there. Sometimes its really loud and it sounds like a rock. Bearing? 4WD CV or U-Joints or whatever?
View 6 RepliesFord Excursion :: Clicking From Front Wheel
I have a drag/click coming from my front wheel. I had thecaliper off so it was definitely in the hub assembly. I went ahead and greasedthe hub through the ABS sensor but the drag/click was still there. I amthinking it is either the wheel bearing or the axle bearing. My question is ifI lock the hub and the drag/click goes away does that mean it is the axlebearing? Also, is it possible the auto locking hub could be part of the problem?
By the way, my Ex has 130K on it and the 4x4 auto selectworks fine. There is no play in the hub and no noise that I can hear. The onlyreason I am digging into this is a drop in gas mileage that led me to find outthat both front wheels are very tough to rotate (with the front drive disengaged).
Golf V R32 :: Whoop Sound From Wheel Bearing
Alright a few weeks ago I had right wheel bearing replaced...noise still there... Had tires balanced, rotated, checked for capping. The dealer hears the noise but can't tell where its coming from.
The sound is classic wheel bearing Whoop Whoop Whoop and I can control it when I turn to the wheel right and left. This will be the fourth time its in the shop.
Yaris/Scion & Vitz :: Wheel Bearing Noise / Vibration On The Front Left (driver Side) Wheel
So on my girlfriends 2000 echo I get the classic bad wheel bearing noise/vibration on the front left (driver side) wheel. Worsens under load (right turn) and goes away when unloaded (left turn). I've replaced left side bearing, CV axle, brake rotors/pads and the noise still persists. My next thought is maybe the ball joint but humming/vibration tells me something out of rotational balance. Bearing in the transmission? I don't know. I'm stuck.
View 5 RepliesFord Ranger / B-Series :: Wheel Bearing Noise At Around 50 MPH
So my ranger was having a textbook wheel-bearing noise at around 50mph....when I turned to the right the noise went away implicating a passenger side wheel bearing.
So I replaced both of the hub bearings on the pass side and noticed that the front axle shaft u-joint right behind the spindle was really bad and was going to change it but couldn't get the spindle off so I said screw it.
Took it for a drive and the noise is still there. Could a worn u-joint possible replicate a wheel bearing noise? I am used to them making a clicking/popping noise while turning when they're bad, but not a whirring sound.

Saturn - Sl :: Wheel Bearing Sound - Pulling To Right And Shudders?
I had been hearing the low groaning of the wheel bearings for several weeks and was on my way to the garage to have the car repaired when my 2000 Saturn SL1 recently had an uncontained wheel bearing failure, in which there was the screaming the gnashing of metal, as well as the left wheel wobbling. The car was towed to the garage, and they replaced both wheel bearings (the one that exploded, and the other one which was on its way out as well). After wards I have noticed three items:
#1 - The car was initially quiet, but about 2 weeks later I've started hearing the low drone "wheel bearing going" sound. The only difference is, it does not change when I turn the wheel to the left or right. The garage said they couldn't tell if it was the wheel bearings going bad, but it could be the transmission.
#2 - Since the replacement my breaks feel spongier than normal. The garage said the master break cylinder may have been damaged when the wheel bearing blew apart, but that the car was safe to drive, unless it got worse. (My breaks used to be very firm, now there is more play in them).
#3 - Finally, since the repair when driving at highway speeds the car pulls to the right, and sometimes shudders, and when down shifting (not breaking) the car pulls to the left... I have not yet had the garage look at this. My question is - what do others make of these symptoms? And, is the garage feeding me a line of BS? Or are they spot on?
Ford :: Repetitive Whirring Noise From Right Back - Wheel Bearing?
2006 Ford Focus with an ongoing wheel bearing issue. Earlier this year I heard a repetitive whirring noise from the back right, figured it was a bearing, brought the car in for repair. The shop confirmed and replaced the bearing.
3 months later, I heard the same noise. I brought the car to a different shop (I had moved since) and they confirmed that it was the same wheel bearing that had just been replaced. They said it may have been faulty. They attempted to repair it, but the noise persisted. They actually ended up putting the new bearing on the driver's side rear and swapping out the old bearing that was on the driver's side with old one on the passenger's, which is the only way they could get the noise to stop entirely. (This confused me)
Fast forward two months and the noise is back on the same side - passenger's rear. The shop is telling me that it is unrelated since the new bearing was technically put on the other side, however, I am thinking that the same thing keeps happening whenever any bearing is put in the same spot (passenger rear). My question is as follows - what could be happening in the passenger rear that would cause bearings to continually fail?
Ford - Explorer :: Thumping Noise From Front / Wheel Bearing?
I have a 03 explorer with approx 160k, I am experiencing a thumping noise while driving. It gets worse on right turns and gets better on left turns. initially i thought LF wheel bearing so i ordered a hub assy and replaced LF. noise is still there. I guess, thumping noise caused by wheel bearings, i know its usually a grinding kind of whirring noise.
The noise doesn't seem to change with accel/decel so I don't think it is driveline related (diff, drive shaft etc.) should i bite the bullet and replace the rf as well??? I should also mention that there is also a shake in the steering wheel that seems to coincide with the thumping (i.e., my hand shakes along with the thumping, and the shake gets worse when the noise does)...
Camry :: 2004 Constant Low Rattling Sound From Wheel Bearing
Camry 2004, 50,000 miles
Last week my car started to give out loud thud noise from the rear passenger side wheel and shook as I accelerated. My wheel bearing was bad and leaking. Replaced it. The loud thud noise and shaking are now gone.
However, I hear a constant very low rattling sound from the same wheel when I cruise above 40 mph. Time to time I also hear a loud rattling tin can sound lasting for two seconds, and it mostly happens when I make right turns.
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Wheel Bearing Gone Out - Making Noise?
Wheel bearing go out? My left front just starting making noise and when turned by hand you can hear the bearings are shot. Called around this morning and with my luck its on back order and the entire hub has to be replaced since the bearing is built into the hub.
Anyways, I was wondering replacing this unit themselves and how long it took to complete? I was going to let Ford do the work but I figured I have never done a job like this and wanted to give it a try and looking at some Youtube videos on older vehicles it did not look that difficult.
If I find that its not difficult I will tackle the other side as well since I figure it is probably not long before that side is gone also and I would not want that to fail while I am out towing somewhere.
Ford - Explorer :: 2002 - Front End Is Howling / Wheel Bearing Noise?
I'm working on a 02 explorer. The front end is howling so I replaced the left side and no change. The howl goes away when braking. Is it the right side then or something else? I replaced both front brakes pads so it's not that.
View 2 RepliesFord Excursion :: Steering Wheel Clicking While Turning With Turn Signal On
My wife asked me yesterday what was that "clicking" sound when I turned. I never noticed it before, now I notice it constantly.
With the wheels straight - activate either side turn signal. Now turn the whee IN the direction your signal is activated, notice a clic-clic-clic??
Then when you turn back towards straight the signal will de-activate and the clicking is gone. This an indication the multi-function switch is going?
Prius (2004-09) :: Scraping Sound From Right Front Side - Wheel Bearing Went Out
For several days I could hear a scraping sound from the right front side. I thought it was snow packed in the wheel well at first, until there wasn't any snow there. Today I was driving on the Xway and the scraping became a buzz like a Cessna airplane. On the way back home I turned the steering wheel back and forth and sure enough the buzz came and went. That made it sure to me the wheel bearing was bad.
View 19 RepliesCamry :: 2008 - Clicking Noise When Turned Left / Need Replacement Of Hub And Bearing
I have an '08 Camry LE 4cyl with 80,000 miles.
I was hearing a clicking noise when I turned left. Which I thought was the CV joint, but turned out to be worn struts. Then I began hearing a roaring sound from the front end. I replaced the struts & that fixed the clicking sound but not the roaring. So I thought maybe it just needed an alignment. I took it to dealer After fixing that one they call & say right one was so loud they couldn't hear that left one was roaring too. So they say I need to replace that hub & bearing also.
Are these issues happening very prematurely? What could have caused these problems?
