Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Driver Side Rear Sounds Like Brakes Are Dragging Against The Rotor
Went and got new tires on the supercrew. Went going through parking lots or simply driving i hear a loud squeal like brake pad squeal. I put brand new wagner ceramics on the truck. Also if i turn to the left the driver side rear sounds like brakes are dragging against the rotor. Whats goin on with this. The squeal will happen between 10 mph to 20 mph and the grinding noise will happen if I am cruising or turning to the left. It goes away when i apply the brakes.

2000 Ford f150 4.6 ... I am hearing two things one is a noise from the left side of the car it sounds like air being let out. The second I think I already figured out but its chirping I think its the harmonic balancer because it took so long until it started spinning and made a chirping noise because it sounds lower than the belt tensioner which I already replaced, along with the alternator, and the belt.
View 1 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Intermittent Grinding / Dragging Noise Coming From Pulley
1997 4.6L.. Have an intermittent grinding / dragging noise coming from the pulley (?timing) area that I'm trying to pin down. Both the alternator and tensioner were replaced prior to the noise starting. The ac compressor and the power steering pump are original. The fan clutch was replaced about 4 years ago and the water pump 8 years ago. Timing chain / guides / tensioner are all original.
I don't notice any of the common ps pump indicators (whine increase when steering) but noticed the fluid level was down slightly and that the pulley seems to have some inward - outward play with the belt off. I also don't have any other engine symptoms like rough idle or any codes being triggered. How to isolate the culprit?
Passat (B5) :: Slight High Pitch Tick That Only Occurred When Steering Wheel Slightly Tilted Left
My brakes were terrible and finally got roders and pads for front yesterday ... well the pad on passenger side was like not there anymore almost metal on metal and driver side was not close to being that bad but like driving down road there was a slight hi pitch tick that only occured when steering wheel was slightly tilted left (counter clockwise).
We redid front pads and roders (did bad not to long ago) and now there a terrible rubbing sound and it only occurs when again wheel tilted left or making a left hand turn cant figure it out thought it was the wire clip to hold caliper in place but that's clearing rim .... it sounds like metal on metal and driving me nut was driving last night and after awhile it did go away but i have feeling it going to happen again when i drive it today ...

View 9 RepliesGmc - Terrain :: 2012 - Unknown Noise Under The Hood
I have a newly acquired 2012 GMC Terrain, SLT2, FWD, four cylinder. I have discovered something my dealer has never heard of and knows nothing about, but says it must be normal!!! With the engine (hot or cold) and ignition off, key removed, about 15 seconds after opening any door, rear hatch, or hood, a "clicking" sound starts up under the hood and lasts several seconds. The same thing happens again after you close the door, rear hatch, or hood!! Using my automotive stethoscope, I have traced the sound to the front cover of the automatic transmission where there is an electrical connection. It is very audible at that point.
This is not causing any problems, but I would really like to know what it is and if, in fact, it IS "normal". If it is not normal, I need to get it repaired as soon as possible, as the car is still covered under GM's Certified Pre-Owned vehicle warranty. My dealer rep. could actually hear the "clicking", but was not concerned enough about it to even try to find out what it was!! He just told me it was normal!!
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Hot Drums And Brakes Dragging On Takeoff
My husband bought a 1997 Ford F150 and the seller said he changed the brake lines, but the back brakes have dragged on takeoff since he bought it. Just put new shoes on it and it's still doing the same thing, but now the drums are getting hot. Is it possible that the seller got the brake line backwards and that might make the back brakes drag?
View 2 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Noise After Shutdown Occurred For Like 5 - 10 Minutes?
Yesterday my 2008 Prius with 95,000+ developed a new noise after turning it off and it has me a bit worried. I took an audio sample? Last night it occurred for like 5-10 minutes. Now today I went to turn it on and before I even pressed the power button it made another noise that I've never heard before which I didn't get on audio. It turned on fine, I let it run for a few minutes and then shut it off and the noise I got on audio occurred for several minutes. The noise comes from the driver's side by the electric motor. The clip should play in iTunes or Winamp, took it on my iPhone so its kind of low in volume.

I just bought a tranny (02J) and I'm about to pull mine out but I'm scared to pull it off just to find out that my clutch is fried. I was at a light, stepped on the clutch, put it in first release the clutch and gave it gas like a normal person would and a bang and clatter noise occurred, I pulled over and when I stepped back on the clutch, the noise went away, released it and the noise came right back. its like clattering metal keys every time that I release the clutch, even in neutral. So eventually I put it in second and it drove normally and then got it to my friends house down the block and now its sitting there.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 1999 4x4 Lariat - Both Front Brakes Dragging?
I have a 99 f150 4x4 that has done this twice, once last year and once this year during hot (90+) weather. I'll notice the vehicle seems like it doesn't want to go. Park overnight and it will work ok. Last time it happened the other day I stopped at wally world and both front wheels were real hot and I could smell the brakes. Came out hour later and when I pushed the brake pedal to put it in gear the pedal went to the floor.
Pumped up pedal and drove off but truck would barely move, drove 10 mph to a buddy of mines shop and it sat overnight and worked perfect the next day. He inspected everything and seems to think it might be the abs control unit. He noticed a small amount of fluid had come out of the unit and dripped on the ground. Also no abs light or brake light has ever come on
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Driver Side Brake Has Been Dragging And Getting Really Hot
I have a 2004 xlt xtracab F150 and for the last week my drivers side brake has been dragging and the first time it happened it got REAL HOT and after I let it cool down it did release and then 2 days later it did it again but with a one mile slow drive to work did not get that hot. I am assuming that I will have to replace the caliper but is there anything else I may have to change?
View 5 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 1999 - Front Brakes Dragging / Sticky Caliper
Bought a high mileage 99 f150 4x4 yesterday. In the process of cleaning her up, the water hose hit the disc brakes on the drivers side and it was hotter than a BBQ grill! Ok, immediately I thought this isn't good. Jacked her up and pulled the caliper. Pads were almost gone so replaced them with a new set, went for a drive. Now the damn things were smoking so bad I thought they were gonna catch fire! Sticky caliper , right? Stopped and got one then realized that the passenger side started doing it too.
Another trip for the other caliper and new pads because these were toast. I mean just burnt to hell. Before I started working on the truck again, I checked on here and I'll be darned if I didn't find out that the old brake hoses might be acting like a check valve because of rust and deterioration. Got a set of brakes hoses too. Put everything on this morning and works like a charm.

Escort :: 1997 Ford Wagon Fan Did Not Come On At All

View 3 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Loud Clattering Noise From Under The Hood Occurred Upon Startup
Twice during the 6 months that we have owned our 2010 Prius, a loud clattering noise from under the hood occurred upon startup. After shutting it down and restarting, all was normal. It sounded like an engine that was getting ready to throw a connecting rod. The dealer could find nothing wrong and when I contacted Toyota's hot line, they were clueless as well. One service writer suggested the ABS as the source, but I've owned 5 other cars with ABS and never heard anything like it.
View 2 RepliesGMC - Sierra :: 1999 - Rear Drive Terrain / Differential Noise On Acceleration
I have a 1999 GMC Sierra. The rear differential cover was leaking on me for past couple of months, but I was putting it off. FInally this weekend my truck starting making an airplane sound that seemed to be coming from the rear. The sound happened on acceleration only, and increased in amplitude and frequency as the speed increased and as I pressed the gas more. If I let go of the gas, or let it cruise, then the sound would sputter once or twice, and go away. It would resume if I pressed on the gas again.
Since the rear differential cover was leaking, I thought I burned out the gears. When I changed the cover, the gears appeared to be fine. The lubricant was super low, and did smell burned out though. I refilled the fluid and put a new cover on. This did not solve my noise problem though.
Is it still the rear differential that is making the noise? Is it something else? How hard is it, and how involved is it to replace the rear differential? Can I replace its components, and which ones?
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Strange Noise Occurred Under The Dash When Insert Key In Ignition
Twice this happened today. When I inserted the ignition key, strange noise occurred under the dash. It sounds like some actuators or motors are being activated. When I turned on ignition, there was nothing, like the battery was dead. I had to wait until all these noises stopped, about 1 minutes, before I could start the car. After the car is started, I noticed that the avg mpg and the time on the trip computer had been reset. This almost sounds like the onboard computer was being rebooted. The terminals on the battery were checked to be very tight.

My '01 F-150 2WD, XLT has a foghorn sound coming from the left front side at idle after the 4.6L is warmed up. It goes away with an increase in engine RPM and is unnoticeable at hwy speeds. I have no codes (I have checked w/ my code reader). The service desk guy at the stealer said it is my abs pump going bad (I figured it was a pump of some sort, my 55 packard PS makes the same noise when almost empty-the system leaks). It also appears this is a stealer only part, and going to cost 6 or 7 benjamins to buy and probably another 5 benjamins too fix.
View 4 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Front Brakes Dragging Only In Prolonged Stop And Go Traffic With Hot Ambient Temps
On a 1998 F150 2 wheel drive 4.6 250k, the front brakes will drag under a specific set of circumstances; only in prolonged stop and go traffic with hot ambient temps. Rotors, calipers, rear shoes, drums, fluid, bearings, seals have all been replaced. This occurs only a couple of times a year, otherwise the brakes work perfectly. It starts out as a slight shimmy that worsens until you can smell the pads cooking and the wheels are hotter than hell. The truck will hardly move at times. The rears are normal. After the truck cools for hours, no symptoms.
