Ford Aerostar :: Airbag Light Inoperative Even When The Key Is First Turned On

Here's the problem with my 1994 Ford Aerostar 3.0 engine. As many have mentioned here, I'm getting the 5 chimes syndrome, indicating an issue with the airbag system. My specifics are:

The Airbag light does NOT light, even when the key is first turned on. You would think the light might be burned out, but I removed the instrument cluster and tested EVERY bulb. After hooking the instrument cluster back up, the light still wouldn't light, but I still get the 5 beeps.

The horn works (haven't tested the cruise control).

I'm not sure where to begin troubleshooting. I have the basic Chilton manual, but it's not troubleshooting the SRS. I understand the cautions when working on the SRS system, but would like to troubleshoot it myself. Unfortunately, I got laid off, and I can't afford to go to the Ford Shop.

Ford Aerostar :: 1996 - Airbag Light Comes On - Code 41 Flashing

Got an air bag code 41. Comes on and flashes the code a number of times, then goes off for the rest of the ride. It is a 96 Arerostar, XLT, 4LV6. From what I read it is a short someplace. Where are the crash sensors and how do you check them for "shorts"? I don't understand much about the whole system.

My van is spouting SRS fault codes 1-3 and 5-1. I had my shop run a diagnosis and it appears the module has failed. I'm having trouble tracking down a replacement. The Module on my van is Ford# F5AF-14BO56-AA. I see modules with -AD or -BD, but none that match this number perfectly. I also see lots of modules for related Ford vehicles from the same era. Looking for a ford parts number reference sheet that will indicate on what vehicles this module was used or if there is any chance that related modules are compatible?

Ford Aerostar :: 1994 - Airbag Light Started Blinking

2 or 3 years ago my airbag light started blinking. 120,000 miles, only owner. The code changes daily. Then the car started reviving at highway speeds. Then cruise control wasn't reliable. Sometimes when I hit a bump, the cruise goes off. My mechanic said the reviving felt like it was going in and out of overdrive, so he rebuilt the transmission. No change. This past month, the car started to pull to the right. It felt like I was driving with the brake on, couldn't get up a small hill. Before I could get the car home, the brakes went to the floor and the car stalled. I had it towed to mechanic.

After 10 days, he couldn't duplicate problem, so I took the car back. A few days later, after 4 hours of errands in the hot Texas sun, it did it again for me. Pulled to the right, driving with the brake on feel, brakes to the floor. This time it smelled like something was burning, either brakes, belt or something, and the rear ABS light came on for the first time. Latest mechanic says it is probably a brake booster, but that doesn't explain the reviving does it? I've had it to 2 dealers, 3 mechanics, and no one has a clue what to check apparently. I am a senior, so I can't really start replacing everything. What should I tell them to check, and in what order? I love my Aerostar....

Ford Aerostar :: Mute Airbag Alarm Without Disconnecting Any Wiring?

I have this "new" 95 Aero that I really enjoy. It has a few quirks here and there but it had one that was making driving around like sitting in a room with the smoke alarm going off. If you have this shrieking airbag alarm and want to stop it in a simple way and without disconnecting and wires here is how I did that.

Tools needed:
Ratchet
Flat head Screwdriver
Gorilla tape
3M gasket sealer ( or similar )

pic 1 ; The sound comes from the Airbag Diagnostic Module which is a tourqoise colored box just above the fuse box by your right leg.

Remove that by unscrewing 2 bolts that hold the bracket to the module. It is too hard to unclip if you do not bring it down with the bracket. * I disconnected the + terminal of my battery and waited 1 plus minute, but after seeing how to silence the little ***k** you really do not even have to do this.

Have a 1997 Ford Aerostar van 4.0 L v-6 RWD 119,754 miles. Auto Transmission starting to slip alot in overdrive. Fluid and filter changes at 86,119miles. Have a Haynes Repair manual that only cover vehicles to 1996... Talks about the transmissions A4LD 4-Speed that uses electronic controls integrated into the on-board EEC-IV system.. Rather that covers my 1997 I don't know. Fluid looks very clean on dipstick. Crawled under van.... On side of transmission #P97GT7006BBR 750Nn. Took to a national brand Transmission chain.... Said trans overdrive wearing out. Anything else I can check or am i getting ripped off ?

Civic - Honda :: Hunting Idle - Will Engine Run With IAC Disconnected?

I am trying to diagnose a hunting idle on my 1991 Honda Civic. I have bled the coolant system thoroughly. Going to check for vaccum hose leaks next. However, I was thinking the next likely suspect would be the Idle Air Control Valve... I took it off and cleaned it with carb cleaner. I noticed that when I unplug the IAC's power plug the idle of the car slows a little bit, but the vehicle doesn't die.

If the IAC was functioning properly would one be able to expect it to close off all air flow and the engine, resulting in the engine dying when IAC is disconnected?

1998 Grand Cherokee V6 - Smoke When Battery Cable Disconnected With Engine Running

I replaced a battery on a 1998 jeep grand Cherokee v6. It started and ran fine, but then in my infinite wisdom, I decided to remove the negative battery cable with the engine running to test the alternator. Some smoke started coming from the back of the engine, so I immediately killed it. It wasn't running for more than 5 seconds. When I started it again, it faltered, but the second time it started fine and ran fine, a little more smoke came out but stopped soon. it smelled like burning oil. We drove it around the block with no problems. I know it wasn't the alternator that was smoking because that's not where it was coming from, and I doubt it was the ecu because then it wouldn't run.

1996, 4.0L ... Certain grades the engine will cut out for like 10 Milli seconds. Not like a cyl cutting out but the whole thing like I shut it off and back on like bang..was thinking coil pack.. Seems load has an effect...same hill.

I have been having to add 1-2 quarts of oil every 2-3 days. I have noticed the back of the engine wet, but have seen no visible leaks unless the engine runs then it drips. Does it sound like a valve cover gasket problem or a rear main seal?

78,000 miles on odometer. The van starts and runs great. Always has. No change in performance since check engine light went on. Took it to local parts store here in California. They used to run codes here but can't any longer for the usual reasons. I replaced the EGR valve because I knew it was due and disconnected the battery and started the van. Light was off. Drove it a few times and it came back on again. Still runs fine though. I heard the Aerostar may kick a code off simply because it's due for a plug change. I think the plugs are original so I'm going to replace them. Plug wires too.

Ford Aerostar :: Warm Engine Idle Shake

Here's another idle problem. I have a 1992 aerostar, 3.0 2wd with 245,000 kms.

I have been working on this van for weeks now getting it ready for summer. I have done a complete tune up consisting of wires, plugs, rotor, cap, pcv and all filters including gas, air and oil. I have checked the vacuum hoses as best as I could and all seem fine.

Here.s the problem. I start the van and it idles great. The engine doesn't move. After a few minutes it slows down a bit and starts to shake. Once it is completely warm and has been driven for an hour, it shakes noticeably. It has lots of power and gets good mileage. It never has a starting problem and never seems to be close to stalling. I am suspecting it is one of the various pollution control items such as the MAF, IAC or 02 sensor. Is there a way to check them at home?

While under the van, I noticed a cable that goes from the transmission into the firewall. A bracket holding it in place broke and the cable was rubbing against the exhaust pipe and burned through. Could this be related? I taped up the cable and tied it up and away from the pipe.

Ford Aerostar :: Engine Cranking While At Start Up And After Turning Off?

I've got a 1993 Ford Aerostar XLT. Was running great until yesterday, when I turned the ignition and got nothing but a click every time the key was turned. Checked the battery (had power), bridged the relay (just got clicks but didn't turn over)....so I concluded the starter was bad.

I installed a new starter motor/starter Selinoid today. The van started right up, but next start the engine kept cranking (even while van was running and after shutting off)...I had to disconnect the battery cable for it to stop. Next start the problem didn't persist...but the time after that it happened again.

Any thoughts as to what is going on, or where to start in tackling this problem?

Ford Aerostar :: 1991 - Cranks No Start / Engine Won't Even Pop

Have a 91 Aerostar that won't start. Has fuel pressure, pulse to fuel injectors, strong spark, strong compression, etc.

Thinking that the spark may be coming at the wrong time I tried a spare ignition module that I keep. No luck. Since my distributor had a lifetime warranty I got another one, again, thinking spark was coming at wrong time. Nothing. Engine won't even pop.

I am going to drop the front pipe in the unlikely even that the new converter is plugged or, somewhat more likely, the muffler, but I am leaning toward a computer at this point.. Still don't understand since it is getting spark and gas why engine won't even pop.

I have a 2004 freestar that cooling fans come on when engine gets to temp but not when I turn on ac it has 5 relays for the cooling fans and they run in series and a dropping resistor. Ford Aerostar :: Power To The Van Just Quits - Engine Not Turning Over To Start Up

All of a sudden all the power to the van just quits when I try to start it. I put a load test on the battery and it seems fine. I've still got power at the battery terminals when everything is dead - no dome light or anything else.

We went out for lunch and had to get a jump to get back home. The battery was turning the engine just fine before this sudden event. What would kill all the power to everything every time I try to start it? After some time goes by, the dome lights and chime come back but I can no longer turn the engine over to start it up.
