Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: 2000 F350 Never Started When Temps Below 25 Unless Plugged In
My 00 F350 has never started when the temps were below 25 unless it was plugged in. This year is no different, but now it won't start when it's plugged in. It just turned 200K and I know things have to be checked, but I don't like doing them in the winter so I was hoping to make it through this winter and fix things. I needed to use the truck the other day so I plugged it in before I went to bed, It wouldn't start, so I got looking, crawled under the truck and the block around the heater was cold, checked the plug with an ohm meter and it showed that there was an open, so I checked the cord, sure enough there's a splice in it, with a broken wire, so I fix all three splices, check it again and it's still open, under the truck again, and find another splice at the end of the factory wire loom with a broke wire, got them replaced, got a good reading with the meter, and now I'm back in business, Plugged it in for a couple of hours, hit the key and it fired like it was new. Well not that good but it did start.

New 6.0 owner having some issues. I have read just about everything I can find on the ECT/EOT problem.
208K on it, its been studded, running a full banks system. Factory size tires. Since buying it I have drained and flushed with distilled 4 times before new ELC coolant (system looks very clean, no debris found at all), T6 oil change and cleaned the air filter.
I am having a large delta on ECT and EOT. Here's some data from today's run. There is a lot of it. Readings from every minute.
Ambient Temp 118 today, took it for a run up the highway cruised north at 65 mph and back south at 75mph. I was driving on Saturday at 75mph and got the wrench light for excessive delta with 232 degree EOT.
45mph on the way to the Freeway- ECT 195.8, EOT 213.5
65mph after accelerating lightly- ECT 197.6, EOT 216.4
10 miles later, flat 65mph cruise set, it maintained a reasonable temp hold and reached max of ECT 199.4, EOT 218.7
After 2 minutes of coasting down off-ramp and sitting at a light- ECT 195.8, EOT 213.5
after reaching 75MPH moderately- ECT 201.2, EOT 216.5
1 mile later, holding 75mph- ECT 204.8, EOT 220.2
2 miles at 75mph- ECT 204.8, EOT 224.6
3 miles at 75mph- ECT 204.8, EOT 225.2
4 miles at 75mph- ECT 204.8, EOT 226.4
5 miles at 75mph- ECT 204.8, EOT 227.3
6 miles at 75mph- ECT 204.8, EOT 228.2
7 miles at 75mph- ECT 206.6, EOT 228.5
8 miles at 75mph - ECT 208.4, EOT 231.0
At this point I dropped cruised and coasted to the next exit, a mile down.
After coasting to exit and sitting for a minute- ECT 201.2, EOT 221.0
After a mile at 45mph- ECT 203.0, EOT 221.6
2 miles at 45mph, lightly on throttle- ECT 204.8, EOT 221.0
After idling stopped for a few minutes- ECT 195.8, EOT 213.8
Driving again lightly at 45mph- ECT 203.0, EOT 211.5
Am I just ignoring the obvious oil cooler issue or is this a water pump, etc? I changed out the thermostat again for another motorcraft unit after Saturdays hot run. I swear it did not run this hot when I got it... but I question if they were running nearly 100% water in the system. What EGR cooler there is, if there is a way to tell without disassembly?
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Coolant Temps Seem High
It's been pretty smooth sailing since I installed my BPD oil cooler a couple months ago, oil temps are great now. However, in the last month or so, since the outside temps have gotten hot, I'm noticing that my coolant temps seem to be a little higher than they should. I put a new Ford thermostat in it back in the fall when I flushed the coolant system and refilled with EC1 coolant. The temps I'm seeing range from 206 up to 222 and I have seen as high as 230 when I was going up a long grade on a hot day. This is not towing.
The fan does kick on like it should, or at least I think its working properly. When the temp gets to 210-212 I can hear the fan a little, when the temp gets to 219 I can really hear the fan. It usually cools it back down pretty quick unless I'm headed up a long grade. Am I wrong in thinking these temps are too high for a 192 degree stat? My worst fear of course is head gaskets even though I don't have any other HG symptoms. No coolant loss, no puking. What other things should I check first? A new thermostat would be easy enough but I don't know if that would be the issue or not.
Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: High LPOP Pressure - 75 PSI With A Warm Engine
I noticed this evening that my low pressure oil pressure was much higher than normal. I have a LPOP gauge that typically reads 12 psi or so at idle This evening I was seeing 75psi with a warm engine. Every little acceleration pegged the gauge over 100psi.
The factory non-functioning gauge says that everything is normal.
I am about due for an oil change. I was thinking that I would change the oil and filter as soon as possible and temporarily plumb in my mechanical gauge to see if the high pressure reading is real or not. I replaced the stock LPOP about 3 years ago with a melling and everything has been golden up until now.
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2005 F350 - Extremely High Oil Temps When Towing
On my 2005 F350 Super duty 6.0 Power Stroke Diesel I have extremely high oil temps when towing and also have a warm start problem. I need to tackle both these problems at the same time but I am struggling to find the correct (and still affordable) parts for this. My local parts store and Ford dealer are way over priced.
First, I need an oil cooler (truck has an EGR delete so no EGR cooler).
Second, I want to replace all the seals in the high pressure oil system and replace the HPOP elbow.(Already replaced IPR)
Third, I would like to do the Blue Spring update as well while I am in there.
Looking for part numbers or kits numbers. I usually do all my own research but right now I am way too swamped at work and home to find these parts.
Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: High Pressure Power Steering Hose
My high pressure power steering hose just blew at the "B" nut at the pump. Meaning, the fitting is still in the pump but the line is out. Do I need to replace the whole line or is there a retainer I can swap out?

I just replaced my 3rd HP power steering line last night( 3rd in 300K, always blows the same point....fitting comes apart where it attaches to the pump.
I'll start, mine have gone about 100K plus or minus 10K, almost thinking about making it a 100K maintenance item.
Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Low On Power High On EGT
Pulled our 5th Wheel up to a campsite we like in the Eastern Sierra, have pulled this trailer there several times before. This trip it felt way down on power and the EGT's were getting up there, I saw 1320 and it would have gone higher if I hadn't backed out of it. It had good boost 24psi averaged 17 to 20 on the steep long pulls. We came home today without the trailer and it ran just fine except once when I really nailed it the emission system light came on and stayed on solid till I turned the key off and on. What is the Emission System light telling me? It ran just fine when the light was on and all indications on the Scangage were good as well a on the Boost, Egt and fuel pressure gauge.
View 14 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Crank All Day And No Start When Engine Cooled To Ambient Temps - Glow Plug 4 Fault
My 2007 has been having this issue for the last couple of years and has gotten pretty consistent lately. When it's below about 60 and the engine has cooled to ambient temps, it will crank all day and not start. Once ambient temps are about 60, it will fire up and runs like a champ. You'd never know it had an issue. It's got a #4 glow plug fault. Other than that, everything is reading within parameters. FICM, GPCM, or what?
View 5 RepliesFord 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Injector 5 High - Low Error After New IDM
Story starts when I was cruising down the freeway and the truck cut out, seemed like a CPS or Injector related issue - seemed like a whole cylinder bank cut out. Stopped truck on shoulder, she shuttered and died. Turned truck off and restarted, ran like a top for about 4 miles then did the same again. I restarted it again and drive it straight home, ran like it I usually did.
As soon as I arrived home I did a little research and learned to start with CPS. I replaced my grey CPS with a new, Ford grey CPS. Truck fired up, ran the same that it did before - not the best idle but at 302k I was content. Drove it for a few days and it did it again, hobbled the truck home, although it did do it a few times and the last time it did it was really hard to start.
I replaced the IDM through NAPA. She's a work truck so I wasn't going to splurge for a Swamp Unit, the NAPA one came with an 18-Month Warrenty. She started right up afterward, the smoothest idle I had ever felt and she ran great, except for an SES. I ran the code and it was an IDM code, ran a buzz test and it pulled injector #5 high/low error, but it buzzed (a bit quieter than the others).
Here's the weirdest part, when the motor is cold the SES is constant, but as it warms up it only shows under power and sometimes flashes off at certain RPMs (1700-1900 and 2100-2300) and turns off when engine braking (TC locked) returns at idle. NO engine lights with the old IDM. I've checked the wiring to the injector from the 42-pin to the outer connector. (.6-.7 ohms, what my meter reads without any loads) Injector (from outer connector) reads 3.2 ohms. UVCH is less then 2 months old (GP issues) injectors have less than 5k on them.
Why? New injector solenoid? Bad IDM? Is it possible my last one never fired #5 and it got stuck? Or did my old IDM fry #5? Also I'm going to keep driving it and maybe it'll clear up, there was one drive I took where it cleared up completely. I've done some extensive research on this an i'm stumped. With the new IDM the truck has run better then it ever has.
Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: F350 - AC Only Blows At High
My new to me 99 f350 has a great a/c but it only blows on high. Am I looking at a blower motor, resistor, or the fan switch? I'm grateful that it does blow on high being in SE TX and SW LA. If it didn't I couldn't ride in the old girl. A black truck with no a/c is not happening this time of year....
View 12 RepliesFord 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Trans Temp Really High?
I notice my trans temp gets really hot fast. For instance just moving my trailer from front of my house to side yard makes temp go to 250. Without any load and driving a couple miles it does the same thing. It's been doing it since I installed the trans temp gauge just trying to figure out what's up.
View 14 RepliesFord 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: High Idle Won't Work?
I have a 99 f350 and I can't get my truck to kick up the idle when it's cold out. There have been mornings in the negatives and still nothing. I replaced my egr tube and cleaned the exhaust pressure sensor. My exhaust back pressure valve opens and shuts while driving at slow speeds but not while at idle, but I don't know if that's related. I replaced the oil temp sensor with a ford motorcraft one. And I plugged my intake air temperature sensor into a buddy's truck with the same motor and his truck still idled up no problem.
View 14 RepliesFord 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: High ICP - Code P1211
I had a p1211 code when I first got Torque Pro hooked up. I figured it was just because I'd done a couple WOT runs and the HPOP just can't quite keep up with the injectors. I was told this might happen when I ordered the injectors from Gear head. I also noticed that my ICP peaked at around 3600 during one of these runs. I don't have it logged, but I'm certain it was up that high.
The code hasn't returned, but I haven't been running it too hard either. I don't quite know what to make of the ICPs actually being that high. From looking at a bunch of Rich's graphs his doesn't really get past 2800 or 2900. Is this an incorrect reading? Do I need to worry about anything?
Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: High Pitched Squealing / Scraping Sound - Loss Of Power Towing Uphill
Towing a 5th wheel at about 10,000 lbs total. Towards the end of out 9 hour trip home and going upgrade the truck begins to loos power and the engine starts making some bad sounds. Although its hard to hear it starts about 45 seconds in and continues later when going uphill. the truck also made a very high pitched squealing/scraping sound (not a belt) like it may have been coming from the turbo. Oil temp was about 220, trans temp at 170 at the time of the event.
Truck has 216k, stock, upgraded trans cooler, original fuel pump.

First time driving my 'new' 2000 7.3 Ex and the high beams won't stay on for more than a minute or two. Playing with the switch in the driveway, they came on after a minute of not being run, but after throwing the switch a few more times, they wouldn't come on again. The indicator light corresponds with the high beam function. I'm thinking a relay is going bad? The switch is brand new and the bulbs are definitely working. Also, I did not get an owners manual with the truck, and the fuse diagram I found online did not match the box at my left knee.
