Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Cleaning Exhaust Filter Message
I got a 2 second "cleaning exhaust filter message" on my drive home tonight in my new truck with about 500km. I completed my drive and pulled off the highway into my yard. I don't know if it had finished cleaning yet but I unloaded the bed and then got back in the truck and drove another mile or two until the fuel economy was normal normal again.
The reason I did this was the underside of the truck was clicking and pinging as it cooled. You could smell the heat. Is it necessary to drive to complete this cycle? Or could I have just pulled in and shut it off. I'm sure it would finish on the highway in the morning. Other then the fuel economy increasing I couldn't tell anything else was going on.
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Exhaust Filter Over Limit Message And CEL Came On
At the end of hauling ny 5th wheel on a 2 hour drive I received the exhaust filter over limit message and engine light came on. It's a 2015 f250 super duty with 11500 miles. I called the dealer when I got home and he recommended changing the air filter. I did that and then drive 1000 highway miles on a vacation, mostly hauling the 5th wheel. The only light/message I get is the check engine light. The truck will not attempt to regen. P2002 and p24a2 problems.....

We have had our Ford 6.7 diesel for a week today and on the way home I am pretty sure it did a regen. It flashed up and said "clean exhaust filter, then the miles per gallon dropped to down around 11 from 15.5 rather quick. The truck smelled really hot and we drove it for about 35 miles to home and MPG started going up and now it's ok. The thing that stumped me was that the truck only has 620 miles on it vs 6.7 miles it had when we bought it last weekend.
View 11 RepliesFord 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Drive To Clean Followed By Cleaning Exhaust Filter Message
I've been having frequent, low speed, short trips lately and have been seeing the 'Cleaning Exhaust Filter' message pop up. Given that I have only been mere minutes from my destination in each case, I thought 'good luck with that'.
Today I see the 'Drive to Clean' message, followed by the 'Cleaning Exhaust Filter' message which stayed on (I have been used to it appearing for only a second or two.)
It should all be fine tomorrow though as I have a longer trip planned.
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2012 F250 - Cleaning Exhaust Filter Message Every 100 Miles Or So
New to Diesel trucks, have a 2012 F250 with 4000 miles on it. for the first 3000 miles I would see regular messages about "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" about every 100 miles or so, but this last 1000 miles I have not seen any?? I drive about 100 + miles a day, 55 to 65 mph so I'm sure I'm running it long enough.
The other thing I've noticed is that my MPG has gone from 17 down to 14 which is what I would normally see during a cleaning cycle. It almost seems like I'm in a constant state of cleaning as my MPG has taken a dive... Any things I should check?
Side note, I towed a 30ft RV around the 3000 mile mark, since the tow I haven't seen the message.
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Active Regen Feel While Driving / Cleaning Exhaust Filter Message On Screen
Last week I picked up a 2016 F-350 with the 6.7 diesel. Since then I have put about 4500 miles on it and gone through 2 or 3 regenerations. About half the miles were empty, half were with about 1500lbs of cargo in the bed. Mostly interstate driving at about 70mph.
However, every time the "cleaning exhaust filter" message comes on in the screen it feels like the truck looses all power for a second. The first time I was going up hill with cruise control set at 70 and it felt like stomping the brakes then hitting the gas all within a second maybe.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Cleaning Exhaust Filter Message Comes Up On Display For About 10 Seconds
I'm a new Powestroke Diesel owner. I recently (Dec. 2012) picked up a 2008 F-350 Crew Cab, DRW, 4x2 with a 6.4l automatic. Love the truck. Lots of power. Runs great. My question is; while driving, every couple of days the "cleaning exhaust filter" message comes up on the display for about 10 secs. I understand what that message means and what the truck is doing. What I don't understand is, why does the truck seem to run like crap after? It seems to be down a little on power and the idle surges until I shut it off and restart and then everything is fine.
It doesn't matter how long it runs after the DPF cleaning message displays. Also, three times now since I purchased it it has shown a different message, "drive to clean exhaust filter" followed by "cleaning exhaust filter". This message will stay on for many minutes. What is the difference between messages? Is the truck doing anything different? Is it ok to shut the truck off while either of those messages are displayed? The first time it happened I drove around for 15 minutes or so afraid to shut it off! Unfortunately the truck is obviously used and the owners manual was missing.
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Check Coolant Message On Display
I have my check coolant message on my display again... I need to get the fuel filters changed so I'm thinking of having the coolant flushed too. 45,500 or there abouts on the ODO.

During a heavy rain the "water in fuel, drain filter" warning came on. I drained the filter like suggested and a water bottle full of water drained out. This is less then a week after I had the titan fuel tank installed. After I drained the fluid I restarted the engin and "reduce power an water in fuel" warning came on. I am 250 miles from the nearest ford dealer. How major is this???
View 12 RepliesFord 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Trailer Brake Module Fault Message On Display
Brought my truck (2012 F350) for recall service for one of the faulty exhaust temperature sensors. It took them one week to replace the sensor (!), then when I came to pick it up I got: "Trailer Brake Module Fault" message on the display.
I have never seen this message, since I own the truck (I am original owner). The service adviser said it will take a minute to reprogram the module and took the truck back to the shop. Came back after a while, saying that it didn't work and I need to leave the truck, so another technician can work on it tomorrow. Tomorrow came and I got the call that they reprogrammed the module, but the message still shows up, so they need to work on it (another day!).
As of now they still don't know what is going on. Apparently they broke something while replacing the EGT sensor and how to fix it.
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Exhaust Filter Cleaning Notification?
I recently bought a certified used 2012 F-350 a couple of weeks ago. I was reading the diesel insert in the owners manual and came across the exaust filter cleaning notification. I have already put almost 3000 miles on the truck and have yet to see the notification. My brother has a 2013 and said that his comes on every week. I don't know what the previous owner did to the truck, if anything. It is very clean and everything else is stock. I am averaging over 19 mpg combines and it runs great. This is my first diesel truck and I am certain that I will never go back to gas.
View 14 RepliesFord 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Exhaust Filter Goes Form 0% To 50% After 130 Miles - Normal?
I'm new to the 6.7 so I'm still learning as much as I can. I recently added the exhaust filter screen to the display using forscan. I had a regen yesterday. I drove the truck until the exhaust filter displayed 0% full. I've driven about 130 miles today and noticed the exhaust filter is now 50% full. That seems really quick to fill halfway up in so few miles. Is this normal? If not what would cause it? I'm really entertaining the idea of deleting the rocket ship under the truck.
View 13 RepliesFord 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Cleaning Exhaust Filter Lit Up On Dash When Driving At 55 MPH
New truck does it's first regen at 100 miles!
I Experienced my first REGEN last night. We were on the highway for about 20 minutes at 55 MPH when the dash lit up "Cleaning Exhaust Filter".. The odometer was at 100 miles and it lasted until 115 miles. The fuel economy dropped from 14.6 to 13.9 pretty fast.
There was no notification when it was done with the Regen other than the instant fuel economy gauge climbing pretty quickly.. So 100 miles on it and it was already sooted up??? Is that uncommon?
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2011 F450 - Exhaust Fluid Warning Message
I have a 2011 f-450 6.7 - truck has 70K miles. The other day I was driving and the message said "Cleaning exhaust filter ". I usually keep it running a little to finish. Then shorty after a warning message came on which said "800 Miles to Exhaust fluid empty". So I went to fill tank and it was FULL. Now the warning keeps showing up each time I start the engine. It now says 300 miles to empty. I'm afraid it's going to go into limp mode even though the exhaust fluid tank is full.
View 14 RepliesFord 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Exhaust System Cleaning Message / DEF Level Is Not Being Depleted
In the last year I've had a NOX sensor fault (dealer repaired) and a DEF heater fault (I replaced). I'm now getting an EGT sensor fail. Every fault is with the same system.
I'm also realizing that while I'm getting the exhaust system cleaning message, my DEF level is not being depleted.
All the dealership wants to do is change out fault codes but I think the true issue is elsewhere.

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Drive To Clean Exhaust Filter And Check Engine Light
I am at 34,600 miles and had the oil changed yesterday afternoon. My son picked the truck up for me and on his way home the "drive to clean exhaust message" came on with the "check engine light" at the same time. I get home from work, re-check owners manual and no mention of the check engine light coming on with the drive to clean message.
I called my service rep and he says drive it as per owners manual, so I head out drive about 45 miles, averaging 60 mph nothing changes, both lights/messages are still on. Truck seems to be running fine and the last cleaning exhaust message was Sunday and I believe I was out long enough for it to do its job. It will go into the shop tomorrow, but was looking for thoughts from the the rest of you pros before I go.
I mention the oil change only because after the last oil change at around 30,000 miles I drive to work 2 days after and my water pump starts leaking.. coincidence I know.. but getting freaked out as I approach 36000 miles..Truck is a 2011 and I bought it new in Jan of 11.
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2012 F350 - Exhaust Fluid System Fault Message
My 2012 F350 Lariat has 6100 miles on it now and on the way home tonight I got a "speed limited to 50 mph in 50 miles" message on the display. It states that there is a "diesel exhaust fluid system fault". The def was topped off about 2000 miles ago and the message center says that the fluid level is "ok". I am going to be on the phone with the dealer first thing in the morning. This is my personal/work truck and if I can't tow a trailer then I can't work. My guess would be a faulty sensor. I have no doubts that the dealer will get this resolved quickly as they have been great about everything else. I also want to say that other than this, I am sure minor issue, this truck is awesome!
View 14 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Oil Cooler Clogged
I just replaced my oil cooler and 500miles later its clogged again. Delta reached 40F.. No fun... I replaced it with the factory ford cooler and installed the coolant filter but I guess when I did the first flush I missed sum gunk.
So my question to you PROs, should I reflush/restore again then replace the cooler? OR Go with one of these??
- Coolant-to-Liquid Oil Coolers
- IPR External Oil Cooler Kit for Ford 6.0 Powerstroke
The budget is tight, but I gotta keep the truck going.
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Power Loss - Code P0401 - EGR Cooler Is Clogged
My 2011 has 62k miles and has been throwing P0401 codes, which results in losing power. I assume the EGR cooler is clogged. So I went to the dealership to see if it's covered, and was told there's no warranty coverage.
I would rather blockoff the EGR cooler than repair it. I would also like the extra performance from a tuner like the MiniMaxx. I do prefer the stock exhaust and not real excited about the drone/smell that comes with deleted DPF.
Will I have issues if it's tuned with the EGR blocked off, and stock exhaust? Or am I better off doing a full delete at this point?
