View 5 RepliesCelica :: 2001 Toyota GT - Speed Sensor A P0500 / P0770 Shift Solenoid E
I have a 2001 Toyota Celica GT, automatic with 177,000 miles, it has been very well maintained. I started having a problem usually just after starting when it is still not completely warmed up. I try and shift it into reverse or drive, and the shifter says it is in those gears, but the car acts like it is in neutral. Once it gets a little warmer I can try it again and it will slowly shift into reverse or drive, usually though the rpm's seem to go a little higher than normal while it shifts. It seems to drive pretty well after this, shifting-wise, but not exactly perfect.
When it is completely warm though it usually drives really well - mostly I do a lot of highway driving. The transmission fluid is full, and looks perfect, nothing in it, not burnt. Previous owner had it changed a few years ago I believe. The check engine light is on and the codes are Speed Sensor A P0500, P0770 Shift solenoid E. My speedometer also works perfectly by the way. I don't have a lot of good shops around and I feel like the ones that are closest to me will see dollar signs in their eyes when they see that transmission code and will just try and replace the whole transmission right off the bat.
Celica :: 96 ST 7afe - Engine Removal / Replacement
I an taking out a 7afe engine (1.8L) from my 96 Celica ST to replace it. I have everything off the engine and all bolts removed from the engine to the transmission and there is no room to remove the engine. Does the transmission have to come out with the engine? I pulled them apart with what little room that there is and the clutch/pressure plate is stuck to the flywheel (the flywheel would clear by itself). This is a manual tranny.

I am needing to replace a bent drivers side lower control arm, but it looks to me the 'front most' control arm to frame bolt is situated right next to the auto transmission! How can I snake this bolt out? Do I really have to raise the engine/tran up to clear this bolt on the control arm?
View 1 RepliesGolf IV R32 :: Cam Position Sensor Or Engine Speed Sensor?
I took the car out for a little spin about 8 miles. We where about .5 of a mile from the house and there is a section where you have to stop on a little bit of a hill. I stalled the car due to the new Dm clutch then headed to the house and the car started to run like crap. I hooked up VAGCOM and had this code:
17748.P1340 camshaft position sensor-G40/ Engine speed sensor-G28: incorrect allocation(#1)
I swapped out the 2 cam position sensors and cleared the code and started the car and it still ran like crap. I just happen to have a new Cam position sensor(hall sensor) so I swapped it out in both cam positions one at a time and cleared the code and the car still runs like crap.
Is there a way to check(test) with vagcom to see if its one of the engine speed sensors?
Celica :: No Oil Pressure At OCV VVTL Sensor
I connected in a Y fitting at the VVTL oil pressure sensor, attached a good quality mechanical pressure gauges and found I am getting no pressure at this point ... therefore, no lift. I put on another Y fitting at the pressure sensor by the oil filter and found the oil pressure is factory spec (20 psi at idle and 75 psi at 3000 rpm)
I pulled apart the VVTL OCV, checked the filter (OK) and checked to see if there was anything that would cause problems ... nothing obvious I have oil pressure in the engine - there appears to be oil circulating in the top end of the engine as there is a lot of oil up there but no oil pressure at the OCV
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: MAF Sensor Connector Removal
I tried to remove the MAF in 2007 Sonata Limited, and could not figure out how. I removed a cap by lifting the tabs on the sides, but the connector with the wires was still attached. I flipped over and saw another kind of tab on the bottom and seemed to be tricky to be disengaged. I did not want to go further because I broke Toyota ignitor connector not too long ago so I know some of the connectors with plastic tabs can be delicate. I want to make sure it is more clear to me before I proceed further.

1997 F150, V6, 4.2L. Replacing the O2 sensor, driver's side before the converter. I've tried using the O2 sensor socket (I have a full set) and it keeps slipping off. Afraid I'll "round" the sensor even more. I've tried heating it up, penetrating oil and it's not budging at all.

View 4 RepliesCelica :: Downstream O2 Sensor In Upstream Spot - No Power?
I actually found headers for my 5sfe and I took them cleaned them up real well and put them on.
The problem I am having is that the o2 sensor space on the headers is for the threaded style sensor and the upstream that comes stock is the bolted on style although the downstream does have the threads.
Can I take the downstream o2 sensor and put it in the slot and since I have put on headers it takes out the cat will this make the car run like crap? also I have tried to take it down the street with just the headers and I had almost no power.
would this be caused by the downstream o2 sensor in the upstream spot and no exhaust other than the headers?
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: EGT Sensor Removal Safety Warning
I bought some high temp anti-seize thread compound last week and had some free time to look at the EGT sensors last night. In a warm dry garage, the sensors are pretty easy to reach and so I had a go at wrenching them loose. They are tight. And they are knuckle busters when they break loose so be prepared.
The number three sensor (third from the front of truck) is close to the frame. Very close to the frame. And the frame has some sharp points along it's edge - knife sharp. A steel file (and two blood soaked band-aids later) the sharp points were gone and the EGT sensor threads prepped.
Celica :: 78 GT 5-speed Doesn't Really Go Very Fast
I might be getting a 78 celica gt 5-speed and with the stock 2.2 ... It doesn't really go very fast and I am trying to figure out what I want to do to this thing. so far I kinda like the idea of shoving a 350 under the hood but i kinda wanna stick with putting a toyota motor in it.

Could a bad vsv be affecting my idle speed? I'm wanting to adjust idle as per the maintenance schedule and i don't know if i should wait until after i replace what appears to be a bad VSV. Also, where on the top part of the wiring harness i can connect an ohmmeter so it runs to the VSV so I don't have to get back in that tight area?

I am getting the code for the camshaft position sensor. Erase code, comes back immediately. I don't even think this car has a camshaft position sensor.. I guess the first step would be locating the little bugger. Crankshaft position sensor is new and seems to work fine. Car is running btw.
View 5 RepliesCelica :: 1994 GT 2.2 With 5 Speed - Noisy Transmission?
I have a 1994 celica GT, 2.2 with a 5 speed. I thought I either had bad tire noise, or maybe a wheel bearing noise, I put the car up on jack stands, started the car and put it in gear, and the noise I have is a loud growling sound, which gets worse the faster the wheel spins. I took a 2x4 and stopped the passenger side tire (drive wheel) so the driver's side would spin, the noise went away. From what I can tell, or am guessing, the noise is coming from the trans. Could this be a bearing in the trans case? Of course I can't find an exploded view of the trans!

View 7 RepliesCelica :: 1994 GT 2.2L Engine Temp Goes Up At Highway Speed
1994 celica GT 2.2L
Just happened last night, i was driving on the highway when i noticed my temp needle was reading about a 1/4 of an inch higher than normal. That's never happened before. It's always been rock steady right in the middle. I was doing about 80 miles an hour. i slowed down to about 65 and the needle went back to the middle. I sped up to 70 and the needle went back up again. So i slowed down again and it went back down.
Tonight i was on the highway again, but due to the freezing rain and hail, i was doing between 40 and 60. Tonight the Gauge never moved from the middle. It was steady all the way until i got on the off ramp at the light, Then it went up and came back down by itself. I didn't hear the fans come on. I went to a local parking lot to do some tests. I parked the car (gauge was in the middle), and reved the engine to raise the temperature. It went up and then came down. Fans did not come on. Strange. I them went back to my house. parked the car, put the hood up and tried to make the fans some on. Here's where it gets interesting...
while in my drive way, the needle goes up, both fans come on high speed, needle drops. I then tried to do it again. Reved the engine for a second, i hear both fans come on high speed, but the needle is in the middle. It did the same thing again with the needle in middle again.
There are no external leaks. engine oil is full. Both fans work, but on high. There is no debris covering the radiator. I replaced the thermostat around april 2011,( it was not a genuine toyota part and didn't have jiggle valve. is that ok? it's been fine all this time.) Timing belt and water pump have not been replaced (so i've been told).
Tomorrow i will check the coolant in the radiator, ignition timing, and check the radiator cap. What are the odds of it being the cooling fan switch or a relay? i only ask because it hasn't come on low speed since this happened. Will warm car up in drive way and see tomorrow.
Celica :: 85 GT RPMs Shot Up To About 3000 And Won't Come Down At Idle Speed
So I just drove my 85 to san francisco and back to Los Angles this weekend to visit my girlfriend and i had high oil pressure all the way until i blew my valve cover gasket.
So i fixed it finally today and it ran fine for a couple blocks and then my rpms shot up to about 3000 rpm and wont come down at idle speed and the car wants to keep going while in drive.
