Hypothyroidism And/with Fibromyalgia
Have had hypothyroidism for 10 yrs. 2 yrs ago started with lots of joint/pain/tenderness and extreme tiredness. Had blood tests to check thyroid function - told that my symptoms were because I was on too high a dose of levothyroxine (125mcg). Told to reduce to (100mcg). Done this. Symptoms lot worse now and just been diagnosed as having fibromyalgia but I am so tired etc. and my symptoms are very much like when I was hypo and was awaiting a diagnosis - very dry skin, hair loss etc. (I have no record of my function test results so I cannot gauge what the pattern has been) Anyone else who has hypo and has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia? I cannot help but wonder if my symptoms are more to do with inadequate treatment for hypothyroid than fibromyalgia. Any ideas please?

View 3 RepliesHypothyroidism At 14 - Levothyroxine Forever
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 14, and since then i have been taking Levothyroxine to help with it. I am wondering, will I need to take levothyroxine forever? Or is there a fix for thyroid problems? I don't see my weight going down at all, or my thyroid level. My doctor has been increasing the dosage of my levothyroxine, and has three times now. I recently got Levothyroxine in 0.137mg dosage, and it smells terrible. My old ones were 0.125mg. Is this a very small change, and will it even do anything?

View 2 RepliesHypothyroidism With Polycystic Ovaries
When I was sixteen, I started to display all of the symptoms of Glandular Fever. Two years went by until the doctors finally diagnosed me with Hypothyroidism. At this point, my thyroid levels were that bad, that I looked bloated, had ballooned to a size 18 and became very ill. As you can imagine, being 5'2 the weight started to affect my back/ joints etc. which just added insult to injury.
The doctors started me on 150 micrograms of Levothyroxine, which was then increased to 200. I went down to a size 10/12 and felt happy, healthy and fit. I had so much energy and found myself wanting to work out once, sometimes twice a day. The positivity came from nowhere, my skin felt great, my hair felt strong and the weight seemed to melt away.
I'm now 22 and I am feeling depressed, tired all of the time, I have no energy to work out and I find myself forgetting things all of the time. I find myself asking how I've ended up back where I started. I'm still on 200 micrograms of thyroxine - but I've now been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovaries.
I just feel like I'm getting nowhere, I'm back to a size 18, I don't feel confident, I just feel like this condition is destroying my life and there's nothing I can do about it. I try to push myself to exercise, but I just don't have the energy. I work full time and by the time I get home I am far too tired to move. I go straight to sleep, sometimes without eating. So how am I putting on weight?
Hypothyroidism :: Cough And Breathlessness
I feel breathless or more accurately have a sensation of not being able to get my breath properly. I find this very depressing as it all makes me feel afraid.
I have just been diagnosed with multinodular goitre as this was an incidental finding on a CTPA scan report nothing has yet been done by way of blood tests .
However having written that some bloods were taken but by a different speciality. I am awaiting the results. I am also awaiting an appt to see endo surgeon and endo physician. Today is a bad day due to subjective sensation of sob. Also have some neck and shoulder pain and slight irritating cough which comes and goes.
Hypothyroidism? Low Free T4 Normal Low TSH
I have been having low free T4 (9 pmol/L), but normal although on the lower end TSH (1.69 mIU/L).
My doctor has put me on 75mg/day synthroid, because his diagnostic is hypothyroidism. However, I understand that hypothyroidism is normally associated with low T4, but high TSH.
Based on what I have read, it seems that a low T4 associated with a normal TSH may be linked to issues with the pituitary gland (and not the thyroid) or issues with binding agents.
Is hypothyroidism and the use of synthroid indicated in my case?
Hypothyroidism :: Hashimoto - Keep Checking Your TSH
I had right part of my thyroid removed last year due to the tumor. I didn't get any treatment, doctors were saying that everything is ok, just need to do TSH tests every few months.
During this year I had loads of strange symptoms like hair lose, weight gain, sleeplessness, late periods, itchy and dry skin, cold hands and feet etc. Doctors were saying it's stress, so when I was in Poland for holiday I paid to see specialists: endocrinologist and gynecologist,
I've done TSH test and it came out 5,3.
Endocrinologist said even if it didn't reach the maximum (5.5) my thyroid is on the border of efficiency and I need to start the treatment. He said that healthy person has TSH level between 1 and 1.5. He diagnosed Hashimoto and underactive thyroid.
I am on Euthyrox 50, checked TSH after 2 weeks and it was 2,74, but GP (in England) said that IT'S NORMAL. They were saying it when I was telling them about the symptomes I had and how did I feel.
I also got special diet to help me lose weight (I gained about 2 stones in one year without the reason).
I just want you to keep asking your GP's to send you to specialists, don't let them tell you it's all good when you apparently don't feel good. It's shame that you have to pay to get proper treatment because NHS is saving money and GP's don't want to refer people to hospital.
Hypothyroidism :: Low Testosterone, Low T4, Normal TSH
what is causing my t4 and testosterone to be low but tsh to be normal?
i am a 19 year old male and I have had these symptoms for 3/4 years that have slowly gotten worse and have been tested for nearly everything but nothing has come back positive.
i have asked my doctor if my free t4 was low but as always will not agree that it is as it is in their "normal range". i shall be going back to the doctors this week and will request to be tried on some thyroid pills to see if it improved my symptoms? i also read that this could be a pituitary tumor, is this correct?
my symptoms are
Fatigue
Muscle pain
sore lower back
stiff neck
sinus problems/ phlegm in throat/ blocked nose
dry throat and mouth
red nose/ rosacea
cold hands and feet
anxiety

excess urination
excessive thirst
prickly/itchy/burning legs and feet when stood still for a few minutes.
clay coloured stool / diarrhea
TSH 1.6
Free t3 5.3
free t4 10.9 -----------?
i also had my cortisol tested which was 472 nmol
Hypothyroidism :: Hot Flashes And Sweating
I was diagnosed as hypothyroid 3 years ago. I currently take 100mcg of levothyroxine daily. My problem is frequent hot flashes and sweating. This has been happening since I've been taking levothyroxine. I initially thought it was menopause but hormone tests show I'm through this now and to be honest, the hot flashes feel different to menopause flushes. At least every hour I become extremely hot and start sweating badly. This can last for 10 mins to half hour. It continues through the night and wakes me frequently. It is ruining my life!

View 1 RepliesHypothyroidism Congenital :: Born Without A Thyroid
I am a normal, healthy 28 year old with a beautiful 8 month old daughter - I was born without a thyroid (picked up on the heel prick test introduced in Wales 82) and have been monitored all my life and also have been on different dosages of thyroxine throughout my life so far! My daughter is absolutely perfect and has thankfully not got CH. I was fine at school (a bit of a daydreamer and a bit forgetful) but I still came out the other side with 11 GCSE's, 3 A-levels and a degree! We are no different to any one else, as long as we are on the right dosage and judging by the way that I've been monitored, this shouldn't ever be a huge issue!

Addison's Disease :: Interpretation With Hypothyroidism
I am 38 and have Hypothyroidism. I recently had a cortisol test and my initial results came back at a level of 210. I was told that the normal range was 150 - 650 ( or thereabouts ) and as my test was at 9am these levels should be much higher.
I have been refereed to see a hormone specialist but am just curious to know if anyone had an initial level of 210 at peak time and didn't have Addison's. Or, indeed they did have it?
Could it be adrenal fatigue? which is why I went to the drs as I read about on a thyroid website.
Hypothyroidism :: Success With Going Gluten Free?
I am also coping with hypothyroidism and I've been searching for the best possible ways to get my health (and life) back. The doctor I have been working with has made the suggestion to go on a gluten free diet. She didn't go into great detail about it, but mentioned that she'd like for me to nix the gluten. I have also read numerous times on the internet about how gluten is a thyroid destroyer. I have tried countless times to go GF, but boy is it hard. I tested negative for gluten and dairy allergies but my doc (a naturopath) was still adamant that I give up the gluten. I feel like such a failure because I only manage to stay gluten free for about 2 weeks at a time until I cave and have something like a slice of pizza or some pasta or bread. There are gluten free alternatives to these items but sometimes they are hard to obtain or are a pain to cook. I have a very healthy diet for the most part but I've found that removing gluten entirely isn't easy. I've also lost weight while going gluten free, which I did NOT want to do. I'm actually already a little bit underweight.
Does anyone have any tips for me? Has anyone out there successfully gone gluten free long-term, and did it affect your condition in a positive way? I feel like a failure because I keep trying to give it up but it never works out in the long run. I always slip up.
