Hip Replacement :: 5 Months And Back To Normal - What About You?

It is now just five months since my RTHR and I think I'm back to normal. So hands up all you hippies who think, as I do, that, as a reward for my extraordinary courage and being a model patient,  my wife should now allow me to purchase that lovely little classic sports coupé that I've seen for sale (quite cheaply) on the Internet.

Progress 3 Months After Partial Knee Replacement

At this point, I thought I would be further along. I was told by my doc that I didn't need PT any longer (a month ago), but still do PT on my own. I had an awesome therapist at PT who taught me well. Thank God I have a very patient and caring hubbie who listens to me saying, "oh my gosh, my knee is so tight, my knee hurts, I am going to try to go down the steps - can you come help me..." I can honestly say that since my surgery, I have never been pain free. My knee always hurts, I can't walk properly, yet and can't go down the stairs - only one step at a time...down with the bad, down with the bad. I am frightened to try to step down with both legs...have tried but it hurts! Is there anyone else feeling the same after 3 months?

Hip Replacement :: 10 Months Post Op Follow Up - Doing Great

Quickly my story...First THR went perfectly.  It was an anterior approach method and within five weeks I was moving about like I had never had surgery.  Second one went wrong within the first couple of weeks.  My surgeon tried various procedures to help the situation but to no avail.  Then I was kicked out of his practice because I missed two payments on my account and I was left writhing in pain, crippled, for life.  That is how it felt.  I could not move without screaming and I became depressed.  My whole life was changed by this.

THEN I discovered this site and the wonderful people on here helped me go for a second opinion, taught me to research the surgeon first and I chose Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, about five hours from my home.  That surgeon found the problem immediately, while the other could not, and it was that my device had come loose and was migrating, twisting and projecting outwards, hitting every nerve possible.  So he did the successful revision!  Revisions are tough.

Around 6 months post op I began to pray for a part time job and one surfaced almost immediately.  A light duty janitorial job for two hours a day.  And I can tell you that after laying around deteriorating for two years, it left me MORE than out of shape!  The first two months at this job left me feeling that I was going to die!  Oh my! I am 57 and never felt so weak in my life.  I sweated, I mean drenched with sweat because the physical exertion was so difficult to do.

Then my newest hip began to hurt.  An x-ray showed that there was no damage, so I just had to work out the kinks. I was very careful not to break the 90 degree rule and twist while breaking it.  Now I am 10 and a half months post op and feel stronger, more flexible than I have in a long time.

It feels good to be back out among the living, earning a little money, and feeling a sense of accomplishment that the bad THR took away from me. And I job share with a friend who covers me when I cannot work.  I am proud to say that I just accomplished working five days a week three weeks in a row!

After all that extreme pain I suffered, I want you to know that I am having  many, many mornings when I awaken and feel absolutely no pain!  I lay there and thank God for moments like this and try to just soak up the good feelings before I have to get up to begin my day.

When I was down and out with all that pain and failed device, that was all I could think about.  Life all but stopped and sometimes I wished I were dead.  Now I can reach higher levels of thinking.  I have even meandered around my yard making mental notes of what needs done in the Spring and actually feeling as though I will be able to complete the tasks.

I want to send the message that no matter how bad off you are right now, it will, it can, get better.  Just around the corner there is life as you knew it.  And for those who are permanently in pain, know that my heart goes out to you and I admire how you survive.  You ONLY HAVE ONE CHANCE TO HEAL RIGHT, so be patient with yourself and your medical team and do what you are told to do.  There is nothing wrong with stretching yourself to see where you new boundaries are as you progress, but do so carefully.

Partial Knee Replacement - Still Discomfort And Swelling After 3 Months

There seems to be a lot of posts for total knee replacements but haven't seen many for a partial. Has anyone had a partial knee done and how are you getting on. Three months after mine was done for a second time I still experience some discomfort and swelling bordering on pain, wondering if this is normal after this amount of time.

Total Knee Replacement - Return Of Symptoms After 3 Months

i had TKR 26/02/15. All went well, been back to near normal for 3 months or so. Had fantastic holiday where I swam, did all exercises in the pool, had 2 weeks no pain in any of my useless joints. Woke up on Monday this week with terrible pain just below kneecap, thought I had turned funny in bed, I was in so much pain today  I saw my doctor. She thinks I might have an infection in the replaced knee, bloods and x rays will tell her. I have just looked up what this means, not good possible the replacement will have to come out to get rid of the infection and then start again.

I did not realise that at six months plus this could still happen? Also have had xrays on my good knee, this is not as good as I thought, it will need to go. At the moment I am in a turmoil.

Knee :: Partial Replacement - Locking Randomly (3 Months Post Op)

My recovery was going great. Could straighten to zero and 125 degree flexion. While at PT doing heel slides, knee locked up. Therapist said To stop doing them for now. Locked up last weekend while stretching and I couldn't straighten it for 24 hours. Saw surgeon's assistant and no issues showed up on plain X-ray ... I have a CT scan scheduled for this week. Locks up randomly while bending with normal activity (sitting for example). Can sometimes get it unlocked by stretching my heel up towards by back. Anyone have issues with your knee locking (will not straighten).

Hormone Replacement Therapy - Lack Of Sleep (menopausal For 12 Months)

I have been menopausal for 12 months or maybe longer so the doc thinks. I turned 50 last August and thought I could deal with all the symptoms but its driving me crazy now! Hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, anxiety......but the worse for me is the lack of sleep! This is awful! Its making me like a zombie and my eyes are black!! Such a vicious circle. Today I have had a long talk with my husband and we have talked about HRT! It makes me so scared about taking it but I am feeling so awful that I'm now considering it. Any ideas of a good low dose HRT that I can talk over with the doc. How has it been for you taking HRT?

Pain And Swelling 3 Months After Bunionectomy

I had a bunionectomy done on my right foot in December of 2013. They had to bread the bone, shave off a good portion, and put a couple of pins in. The surgery went good and I had minimal pain for about 3 weeks after the surgery. Now I am about 3 and 1/2 months out from surgery and I am still having some pretty major swelling. I still can't wear most of my normal shoes and my socks leave indents on my foot. When I wake up in the morning it will look like it's not swollen, but by mid-morning it is swollen again. My doctor prescribed me arthrotec to get the swelling down, but I've been taking that for a month and it's not helping much so far. I am a nursing student and I'll be graduating in 6 weeks and hoping to get a job. I really need to be able to wear regular shoes and be on my feet for up to 13 hours a day.

Pain After 6 Months Under My Big Toe Lapidus Bunionectomy

I am 6 month out from lapidus bunionectomy along with several other procedures. I have been having alot of pain under my big toe. It feels too low and I have expressed my concern to my surgeon and he said what I am feeling is normal. Last night I read the results from my last xray and it states I have a very low first metatarsal. 4 degrees too low. Has anyone ever experienced this? Is this normal? Is there anything that can be done? Why wouldn't he just tell me. I just want this fixed. I am calling another doctor to morrow to get their opinion. Will my foot ever be normal again.

Hip Replacement :: Opposite Hip Pain After Walking

I had my surgery a year ago and just within the last few weeks my unoperated hip has been causing me a lot of pain. I've been walking 3 miles 3 times a week and with my limp it becomes painful to the point that I have to stop and sit down before I can continue. My hip is almost bone on bone and it hasn't bothered me too much but since the surgery it has been causing me pain. My doc said to continue walking because it won't deteriorate the hip any faster.

My operated hip is fabulous.

Pain After Partial Knee Replacement

I had a partial knee replacement 8 weeks ago n the medial side. The first month or so pain was tolerable, I figured it was healing pain. Since then the pain has become increasingly worse. I had talk to the doc twice and was told that if it does not look infected not to worry pain is a normal part of recovery. My next follow up is this week. I still go to pt 3 x week, they say it is healing great looks great and pain is normal. So my question is how much pain is normal. I feel like it is pinching below and to the side of the replacement. Today my knee completely gave away and scared me. Has any experienced this and does it sound normal.

Hip Replacement :: Severe Pain From Physiotherapy On Other Hip

I am feeling quite distraught after my appointment with the physio, she assessed my penguin walking which I am quite proud of, it is a tiny bit of progress - I thought I was doing okay....I am managing well given I am looking after two young children with no help, the house and a house full of animals - she told me off for prioritising the children which is impossible for me to do otherwise at the moment.

But the worst of it is when she corrected my posture has caused so much pain in my non operated hip, groin and back, it has left me in agony, I actually feel sick.

I have never felt so despondent in my life, she made me feel terrible, and finished by saying that I probably need a hip replacement for the left hip just like that! As if it was nothing. I felt slapped by that casual comment - given what we all go through it is not the best news, and I could have done with her breaking it to me a little more gently.

Hip Replacement :: Extreme Pain Still After A Year

My mother has done surgery for a total hip replacement 1 year ago and is still in extreme pain.

I personally think she has two problems. First with her wound/scar and second with the hip itself.

The first because her scar/surroundings of the wound is still extremely painful and sensitive. Even looking at it already hurts and this makes it almost impossible even wear clothes. This problem I suspect must be related to nerves maybe encapsulated by the scar tissue or something. I am not sure.

The second problem must be her hip or the prothese or something related. She has extreme pains which start in the morning. While still lying in bed, she is almost without pain but then getting up and even walking to the bathroom is enough to invoke the pain again. Then during the day active or inactive the pain worsens till a point where she can´t do anything anymore. Sit, walk, stand it all hurts. Riding a bike is still best for her and walking small distances also but sitting is terrible. So why if in inactive state in the morning is she ok and when she starts moving the pain incurs? This must be because of the hip or prothese which must invoke the pain. Either the replacement is too big, wrongly placed, causing whatever. Right? I am not sure but still after 1 year no one, even a second opinion was able to shed some light on her state. No one is able to find a cause of the pain nor for the wound nor for the hip.

Awaiting Hip Replacement :: Pain Relief ?

I'm still waiting for my op but lately my pain has become unbearable. I spend most my time just lying in bed because of the pain and if i do do something like go out or housework i will regret it because of the amount of pain it causes. I'm currently taking tramadol but trying not to take them to often as i know they can cause addiction. Im also keeping a hot water bottle under my left hip to try and help. Anyone got any other ideas?
