How Getting General Anesthesia Is Like?

I will be getting general in awhile though. I am kind of scared since I haven't been through it before ya. Can anyone here who has done it tell me how it is like though. Do you really not remember anything after it. I think that would be cool. Will I feel really tired after though. When will I have energy to do things later. Anything other things I will feel I would like to know ya. How long will these feelings last though. I really want to know when I can drink water after getting it done. It will be cool if someone can tell me about it.

Varicose Vein Treatment Under General Anaesthetic Fear

I'm due in for varicose vein treatment this week and I have been advised to have this done under a General Anaesthetic because all of my veins cannot be treated under a Local. I'm also super anxious that even under a local I'll need chilling out!

I'm absolutely petrified, I've called the hospital, spoken to my gp etc and all seem so unworried and matter of fact about it. I just want to talk to someone and not go into detail on their responses to help me get through this. I'm not sleeping, I'm so anxious that weight is falling off me, I am really really scared. It's not the procedure, I am at ease with that element, it is having the anaesthetic and I'm worried something will go wrong that is concerning me. What's worse is I know I'm ridiculous and that makes me worse. I've asked for sedation but I'm told this is dangerous. I've been told I'm more likely to have a real bad car accident etc but this doesn't help me because if there is a risk then it can happen.

I just feel like I'm not going to be able to go into the hospital on the day. I know that I need to get a grip but I just can't, I really cant.

For reference I'm a 40 yo male and have never had a General Anaesthetic before.

Frozen Shoulder :: Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA)

I just recently join this forum and would like to hear everybody's experience with their frozen shoulder.  I just turned 47 years old.  My right shoulder started to "freeze" last November.  I had tried steroid shots, acupuncture, cupping and regular PT since Feb.  Now I only can pick up my arm without bending my elbow about 90 degrees from my body.  I feel the stubborn pain from my shoulder daily and very sad that I can't dance any more.  Now I am also considering Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA).  Advice please? Worked?  Recovery time?

Omeprazole And Sensitivity To Sunlight

I took omeprazole along with naproxen and after eating my lunch outside in the sunshine (May2009) I developed very red itchy skin something like prickly heat. My GP and pharmacist told me that it was a side effect of the naproxen.

I am no longer taking naproxen but started taking omeprazole again for indigestion. I have just returned from a weeks holiday in Greece that was ruined from day two by the same red , itchy skin problem that prevented me from spending any time in the sun.

Is this a coincidence....I think not.

Have discontinued this medication.

Diabetes Type 2 :: Insulin Sensitivity And Resistance

AM I INSULIN RESISTANT OR NOT?

I have symptoms of Type 2 and insulin resistance, including reactive hypoglycemia (RHG) as shown by the lab results below. I also have poor lipid values (bad LDL/HDL), low SHBG and a resulting testosterone deficiency that started in my teens. Both my mom and sister have PCOS.
2 hour OGTT results:

Fasting glucose, insulin: 79 mg/dL, 2.5 uIU/mL

75 g glucose, then (glucose, insulin):

+0:30: 116 mg/dL, 35.0 uIU/mL
+1:00: 83 mg/dL, 17.5 uIU/mL
+2:00: 56 mg/dL, 6.4 uIU/mL

A1c: 5.2% (weird, if my blood sugar is so "normal")

* highlighted = out of lab range

My insulin looks very low. Are these low numbers for insulin? If so, why would I get RHG from insulin so low?

Sexual Health Men :: Premature Ejaculation And Sensitivity After Years Of Sex

Problem begun over recent years since I've been with my present partner (female).

We started off with a great sex life together seven years ago. She needs lots of satisfying and I used to satisfy her.

Over recent years I've found that I have started climaxing far too soon after only about 10 thrusts inside her and then afterwards my penis is extremely sensitive on the end which prevents oral sex or further touching. I soon become limp and can't get my erection back.

In order for her to enjoy our sex I now encourage her to continue with her toys after I've ejaculated too soon. It's getting to the stage now where we don't have sex very often as the satisfaction for her isn't there any more. We masturbate alone.

Corneal Ulcer :: Blurry Vision And Sensitivity To Light

Hi everyone, just after some advice.. My left eye started watering really bad last Wednesday, by the Friday the white of my eye was blood red, I arranged a visit to the GP who gave me chloramphenicol eye drops and if it got any worse to take myself to our local eye hospital. By the Sunday my eye was so painful, watering, bright red and light sensitive. I ended up visiting the eye hospital to be advised that I had an ulcer on my cornea. This us down to a viral infection, I was given antiviral eye ointment to put in 5 times a day for 10 days. The doc said due to my job I would probably need 2-3 days off.

I have been off 3 days now and although the pain and redness has calmed down, my eye is very sensitive to light and my sight is still blurry.

has anyone else suffered this please and how long did it take to recover and the eye to feel normal?

Vision Disorders :: Sensitivity To Screens - Computer, Phone And TV

I'm 19 years old, I've had glasses for a long time (got me newest prescription 5 months ago), and I'm always on my computer. I spend many hours a day on it because I have college online and all of my hobbies include using a PC. But for the past few days, my eyes have started hurting within a few minutes of looking at any bright screens. Even scrolling up and down through web search results makes me a little queasy. Nothing has changed about my lifestyle or health except that I have a rough sinus infection that started around the time the eye problems did.

Again let me reiterate: this has never ever happened before. I'm not on the computer anymore now than I have been in the past, this is just a sudden thing.

I seem to be alright when I'm not looking at a screen, but I haven't driven anywhere so I'm afraid the motion my make it difficult. I scheduled an eye exam already, but it'll be two weeks before I can go in so is there anything that might ease my mind, or at least make sense of my situation?

Mini Migraines :: Without Aura, Body And Ear Pains With Light Sensitivity

I've had migraines a good chunk of my life and I haven't had one in roughly 9 months but I have been experiencing almost like mini migraines? in that I experience pain very similar to a migraine but without the aura or having to lie down or take it seriously. I guess these could be tension headaches, but I'm not sure? I've also been experience other symptoms, including: ear pain, sensitivity to light/sound, ringing in the ears, and various pains all over my body. these symptoms can happen with a migraine but lately they've been constant and if not, happening often enough that I'm noticing. I've had a brain scan and nothing. I don't think it's ever been like this before and I'm curious as to what it could be? As in, a starting point. I do have migraine medication but all it does is put me to sleep, it doesn't help with the pain. Not sure if that matters.

Nervous System :: Head Pressure, Eye Floaters, Light Sensitivity

I have an undiagnosed condition which started three years ago, in December 2009. My family doctor doesn't take me seriously, so I am switching to another doctor soon. I'm male, 26 years old, non-smoker & non-drinker. Blood pressure on average 130/80, pulse rate around 70. I am 6 foot 1 tall, and weigh around 214 pounds (97 kg).

My symptoms:-

- Head pressure (especially around the temples)

- Feeling my heartbeat pounding in my head (i don't hear it, but i definitely feel it)

- Massive eye floaters in both eyes (always present)

- Light sensitivity (always present)

- Slight blurry vision from time to time (depending on the severity of the "head pressure")

- Eye pain (also depending on the severity of the "head pressure")

What makes it worse:-

- When I eat something very salty

- When I am very nervous, or very angry

What makes it better:-

- When I press on my temples

- When I tie a piece of cloth around my head

- Diazepam 5mg

Worth mentioning:-

- No fatigue (i have a lot of strength & energy)

- No appetite loss

- No sleep problems

A detailed history of my condition:My problem began in December 2009 as just a strange feeling in my head. I started to literally feel my pulse pounding inside my head. This was accompanied by a feeling of pressure in the head, especially around the temples and around the eyes. It felt like extremely high blood pressure, but only in the head. I ignored all of this, thinking it's something that will go away quickly, but I was wrong.
After a couple of months, in the spring of 2010, the head pressure decreased somewhat, but then I began to have eye problems. There was a dull tension-type pain, first in my right eye, then in my left eye. This type of eye pain is very difficult to describe: A strong tension/pressure type of pain, which feels exactly like the pressure in the entire head. This lasted for several days, and then comes the worst part: massive eye floaters in both eyes, accompanied with light sensitivity. The eye pain went away, but the floaters & light sensitivity remained, as well as the head pressure. The floaters & light sensitivity are always present, 24/7, so it's definitely not a migraine.

The problem "stabilized" in the summer of 2010, and remained very stable or "tolerable" I should say. Head pressure reduced by more than 50%, no eye pain, and only 5 or 6 floaters. Then in October 2012, for unexplained reasons, the whole thing came back with a punch. The pulse pounding in the head, the head pressure, and the eye pain all increased about threefold. Then a few days later, new eye floaters came along (more than 10 new floaters!). Now the whole thing is somewhat stable, but definitely not as good as it was before.

Why was it "ok" for more than two years, and then came back like this? The only thing I can think of is bodybuilding. In October 2012 I began to lift weights, mostly benchpress, and about a week after that, the problems began to intensify. This is the only thing I can think of that might have played a role.

Here are the exams I have had done in the past few months:-

- Extensive blood work, including TSH test (thyroid function): all clear, except for somewhat high cholesterol (255)

- Abdominal ultrasound: completely normal

- Ophthalmoscopy with dilated pupils: no retinal tears, no holes, no damaged blood vessels

- VEP (Visual Evoked Potential) test: completely normal

- Carotid doppler ultrasound: completely normal (I really insisted on the carotid doppler ultrasound, because of the feeling of high blood pressure in the head.)

I didn't have health insurance for a long time, which is why I started to see doctors only a few months ago. Now, I have learned to control this condition by avoiding salty foods, avoiding stress, and avoiding weightlifting. By "controlling" the condition I mean preventing it from getting worse. But nonetheless I want to know, and absolutely have to know, what is causing this problem, and how to treat it.My family doctor does not want to do an MRI or a CT scan. He thinks this is all stress related without any physiological causes whatsoever, which I think is completely absurd, and this is the reason why I'm switching to another doctor very soon. In any case, my questions are as follows:

1.) Is it possible that these symptoms could be caused by a deformity of the neck and/or the spine? I have had a really terrible posture since I was a little kid, but my family doctor (as well as my neurologist) dismisses this idea, saying there's no chance it could cause these problems.

2.) Is it worth doing a contrast-enhanced thyroid ultrasound?

3.) Should I do an electrocardiogram & treadmill stress test?

4.) What medical exams would you recommend me? MRI? CT? If so, exactly what kind of MRI? Cervical? Head only? Whole body? I really don't know much about this subject.

5.) Is it possible for the eyes to really be healthy, but for a person still to experience floaters & light sensitivity, for example because of something neurological?

If there is anything at all you could say about this topic, I would really appreciate it. To this day I am not able to find on the internet one disease that has all of these symptoms. The whole thing really feels as if the blood pressure in my head is extremely high, but obviously that's not it. I would very much like to know if you were in my shoes, what exams you would like to have done.
