Diverticula Diet :: What To Eat And Avoid?

I have now had diverticular disease for the last 12 years and have a flare up every 6 months. I have apparently 6 pouches in my colon. I still do not know what foods to eat and to avoid. I have from my own experience stopped eating certain foods. I do not eat anything with seeds in ie some fruits have seeds so the only fruit I eat is melon pineapples bananas. The doctors say you should have a high fibre diet then they say do not eat seeds. I have just discovered that I should not be eating rice. How about baked beans should I eat these or not? Please could someone tell me as at the moment I am going mad not knowing what I should be doing.

Diverticula :: Food / Diet - Do's And Dont's

Returning from a hospital session of Drips and Deprivation (food) I was handed a Low Residue diet to follow. Scant in products, and information what to do with said products, I searched the web for more information,

only to find contradictory eat and don't eats, so I thought that WE the sufferers of food deprivation should start our own Divi Diners club and see if we can throw some light on the subject.

I Love mushrooms, but cannot find any info about them. How do we achieve our five a day if we can't eat fruit? Is it O.K. to take the skins off?

Can we have chips or roasties,or fish with batter on? Spices, do any of you use spices. and what do you put on spaghetti?

Can we blitz veggies, as stews and casseroles are forbidden?

Pastry is allowed, but no mention of which type.

So. can we help each other ,then at least when ,or if we ,dine out, we can order something from the menu.

I cannot eat boiled potatoes ,eggs (is it O.K to have a fried one?) jelly and rice pudding for ever. .

So please join in and share your doe's and dont's. mushrooms eaters.

Diverticula Diet? Fruit, Vegetables, Cooked Only?

In the past, I have spent quite a lot of money getting advice from a private Nutritionist.  She advised me not to eat any raw fruit and vegetables but to eat them cooked only.  Also not to eat salad as lettuce in particular can take a while to pass through the digestive system.  Also she said that wheat is not a good form of fibre but Rye is better but Rye bread is usually heavy, more like a house brick.  Rye crackers are O.K. sometimes but won't make a good sandwich.

Yesterday, when I had a bad flare up, I thought that I have got to rethink my diet yet again.

I have been eating wholemeal bread but it seems to make me really bloated and uncomfortable.

I am going to start taking probiotics again but not sure which ones are best.

Polymyalgia Rheumatica - What Is The Real Cause And Diet Advice?

I am taking one 5mg Prednisolone every morning.  The shoulder pain is now bearable and goes after about an hour. I have no problem with swimming - no pain at all and the sauna is bliss! My beany bag is indispensable   and very comforting if the shoulders ache during the evening.

What is the real cause of this ailment?  Stress?  My GP has put me on to Mindfulness and I am going to to go in for meditation as I am sure it will help.

What about diet? I have stopped drinking tea and coffee and do not touch alcohol.  A friend has recommended red vegetables ...

Acid Reflux - Diet / Food Advice?

I had another bad night's sleep last night even though i took my medication before i went to bed at midnight. At about 6pm I had my last meal which was Ham off the bone new potatoes and baked beans.I later had a cup of tea and later still some Wine Gums as a sweet treat. So in your experience I am i correct in assuming that it was the ham that caused my problem rather than the other things I ate. By what I have read I think I am lucky in what problems I am having compared to many of yourselves but it seems to me that as time is going on my illness is getting worse.

Cardiovascular :: Walking After Triple Bypass?

I am feeling a bit down. I was a healthy man my whole life and then three years ago the disease came and it turned my whole world upside down. I know that it’s been three years since that and that I was supposed to get used to it by now, but I still can’t really accept the fact that I have triple bypass in the age of 40. Anyway, I’m not here to seek for emotional comfort, I just wanted to ask you how much walking can I do, knowing that I have triple bypass? I really need long walks these days.

Cardiovascular :: Trouble Sleeping After Bypass Surgery

I've had my bypass surgery finally. I waited very long for this to happen. I was not an urgent case though, but still I was very nervous about this. I’ve been told I will get my surgery done in about a month and it turned out that I had to wait for two more months. I was scared something may go wrong while waiting. Luckily nothing did and I’m ok now. I’m recovering. The only things that bothers me is that I haven’t been able to sleep. What are your experiences when it comes to troubles sleeping after bypass surgery?

Cardiovascular :: Difficulty Sleeping After Bypass Heart Surgery

had bypass heart surgery two months ago and was told that it was normal to experience some difficulty sleeping following the surgery. am noticing though that it is not getting better and i am assuming the effects of the anesthesia are no longer a possible reason for my problems. it is ridiculous really. go to bed at midnight, find myself still awake at 2 am, then go read a book or watch some show, and for some reason still awake at 5 am most days. i am now retired so there is no reason for getting up but certainly have the feeling that this routine is far from healthy. what can i do?

Erectile Dysfunction :: Bystolic Or Lipitor ? Double Bypass Performed

Back in October 2014, I experienced angina and went to the ER. Assessment indicated that I had blockages in some cardiac arteries, and a double bypass was performed. I was started on a med regimen of Metoprolol 25 mg/day, Lipitor 40 mg/day, and Aspirin 81 mg/day. As I recovered from the surgery, I discovered that I now had erectile dysfunction, a numb feeling in my penis, and reduced libido. When I told my cardiologist about this, he switched my BP med to Bystolic 2.5 mg/day. Supposedly, Bystolic doesn't have sexual side-effects. Though I can now get a partial erection and can have an orgasm, it takes a fair amount of stimulation and the orgasm is not as satisfying as it was prior to starting on medication. I'm 62, have no other health conditions or medications, was never on BP or cholesterol meds prior to my operation, and never before had any problems with erectile dysfunction. On both Metoprolol and Bystolic my BP reduced to an average level of about 115/75. My cardiologist proposed a trial of Viagra, but I declined as I do not believe in treating a side effect with another med that has potential for additional side-effects. Nonetheless, this condition is unacceptable to me, and I would want to get off a medication with this side effect. Has anyone else experienced similar side effects on Bystolic? Might the ED be the result of the Lipitor reducing cholesterol which, in turn, disrupted normal testosterone synthesis?

How Many Considering Gastric Band Surgery?

I was wondering how many of you are considering gastric band surgery?

I went o see my doctor about it, and he said that, although I fulfill all criteria for the op, they wouldn't consider me uless I have tried Orlistat first, so that's why he has given me them.

I have 8 stones to lose, so presumably wouldn't be able to take Orlistat for that long!

I had my band done 10 days ago.  Until day 7 all was well, slowly recovering but then I started getting these horrible stabbing pains.  Most of my incisions are too the left but one is just off centre to the right and it's under here I am getting the horrible pain.  It's ok if I sit/ lie still but if I start moving round the twinges start.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I called the nurse she said it was probably where my port was embedded.
