Disc Prolapse :: Slipped Disc Trapping The Nerve

Hi all, before xmas my back started to get sore but i thought with 2 weeks rest during the holiday it would get better. Day before i was due to go back to work it was really bad. I went to the osteopath and it felt like he had fixed it so i was pleased. Few days after i started to get pains from the top of my buttock all the way down my leg into my foot, I then realized that i had sciatica. The pain is really nasty and i get pins and needles in some of my foot and calf. It has stopped me walking properly and i limp about. Week ago i had an MRI scan and it revealed that one of the discs is trapping the nerve. I have good and bad days but i cant walk properly and pain killers really help. I went back to the doctor today and he thinks from the results of the scan i should arrange to have surgery as it hasn't improved over 8 weeks. I really don't want to go to hospital as it seems extreme and i haven't tried any of the other options.

Disc Prolapse :: Gabapentin Side Effects?

Just read your reply on the Gabapentin, how long did the side effects take to come out. Was the operation you had very painful and how long in all did you have to wait, I find trying to get up in the morning the worst , takes about 35 mins to be able to get out of bed then about 2 hours to be able to walk properly without the spasms.

Pain Management :: Coming Off Gabapentin

After 3 years of taking this medication I am ready to come off. My doctor told me not to stop cold turkey due to seizure risk. And sounds like he think I could do it in a week's time.

Hoping someone here has had some experience with coming off of this medication. It truly helped before my surgery this summer.

I don't love the side effects.

Back Issues :: Coming Off Gabapentin

I have been on 1800 mg a day of gabapentin for about 9 months due to a back problem. In this time I have put on over 2 stone and have now got the point where I've had enough. I went to my doctor on Tuesday and she has advised me to reduce my daily amount by 300 mg and then after a week, reduce by a further 300mg. This seems a lot quicker than others have done it although I'm desperate to get off these asap.

Disc Prolapse :: Spinal Disc Decompression For Central Disc Bulge In L5/S1

I have been experiencing the lower back pain which is local from last 5 years. My MRI reports says that there is a central disc bulge at l5/s1. Where outer annular tear is intact.

I have seen a chiropractor who has recommended spinal disc decompression sessions on Hill DT.

As per the doctor, it will relocate the disc back to its normal position and make the disc healthier as before.

Just would like to know if someone has gone for the similar treatment for the similar problem. If yes kindly share your experience.

Menstruation :: Collapsed, Puking - The Cramp Pain Intensified Tenfold

Sunday was the first day of my period. I woke up in the morning with some bad but tolerable cramps. Had some yogurt, took an aleve, and ran myself a hot bath. The hot water helped for a bit, but soon the pain was back. While I was getting dressed, I got hit with this sudden, intense wave of nausea. I quickly popped a Zofran, but it didn't seem to be helping, so I ran to the bathroom. The nausea calmed down a bit but I felt like I had to poop, so I sat down on the toilet. And from there the cramp pain intensified tenfold. It was so bad that I could barely move. I was shaking and soaked with sweat, the room was spinning, I thought I was dying. I called for my roommate and asked her to bring my hydrocodone because I couldn't stand it. I took a pill and finally managed to get myself off the toilet. As I was walking to go back to bed, another intense wave of pain hit me and I basically collapsed onto the floor. My roommate was just picking up the phone to call 911 when I started puking violently all over the carpet.

So they took me to the hospital. I threw up three more times and they gave me nothing for the pain. I sat in a chair squirming and groaning in agony and dry heaving for about an hour and a half, and then finally the pain just suddenly stopped and I felt a million times better. I ended up waiting about 9 hours to be seen. They did a pelvic ultrasound, a pelvic exam, and a urinalysis. All normal.

I don't see how this can be normal. It was sincerely the worst pain I've ever felt in my life, but the only advice they could give me is to take aleve around the clock when I start my period. I don't know what to do other than set up an appointment to see an obgyn, but am I the only one who's experienced this? Could they have missed something?

Pneumothorax :: Collapsed Lungs X4, Two Lung Operations, One Sealed, One Stapled - 20 Years On

I had all my lung drama in the 1980s, two collapses on each side, then followed by each a major lung op, one side using a blebectomy (I think it was called) which was a partial lobectomy that was then stapled back together. The other was a filler where they used some seal to fill the space between the lung and the pleura. So many years later, I survived without needing other operations but heres what happened to my lungs...!

Not sure exactly, but my chest cage, lung cage, shrank relatively suddenly - the doctor noticed the xrays looked as if they belonged to different people. Then I experienced permanent shortness of breath, I have now lived with this for six years. It was accompanied by permanent elevated adrenaline and heart pounding, none of which has been diagnosed by the doctor who always say 'everything is within normal range'. I exercise as much as I can to keep my breathing in as good a shape as possible but I feel like if they opened me up they would find an awful mess in their. I cycle a lot and swim as much as possible - I was always super active - but my breathing capacity in exercise is so much less than it was. I am 50 now and know that damage is also due to binge smoking throughout my life but I haven't smoked for a long time. I'd love to know if other people have had this or varied reactions from their lung op history and what they did about it, especially what their solutions have been. MY SOLUTIONS HAVE BEEN variously holding my breath under water for as long as possible to try and expand my lung capacity - not for the pre-op pneumo people!, Yoga, Stretching, breathing in a spine stretching folded position, meditation, cycle till you are out of breath, Buteko methods of CP and green juicing for best method of getting positive amount of super nutrients to the brain and blood stream oxygene. This might have helped someone, it helped me but it took me years to discover all the different methods I now incorporate. My condition puts me in a state of constant panic that I need to daily manage.

Disc Prolapse :: Disc Has Broken Off And Was On My Spinal Cord

I had a disc prolapse in january this year(08 ).i just thought i had severe back pain as i usually did have back pain.on the 2nd of january i went to hospital as the pain got so severe,i couldn't walk and the pain was in my left leg.the hospital gave me a pain killer told me it was siatica and sent me home.two days later my pain was unbearable so i went back to hospital who yet again examined me and told me to have accupuncture and was sent home.On the 23rd january i stood up and had lost control of my bladder the pain was so horrific i decided to go to a different hospital.when i arrived they examined me and told me i was to have an mri scan.where they tried to lay me in the mri scanner but could not so transferred me to a different hospital.at the hospital they took 4 hour to do my mri because i was in so much pain i could not lie on my back.when they finally did an mri they could see that my disc had broken off and was on my spinal cord,i had an emergancy operation and was told if i had left it another 24 hours i would never have walked again.i wish the first hospital would have examined me properly in the first instance.i never had suffered so much pain in my life i was in agony.i had the op and now 11 months on i'm still recovering but at least i can walk.

Disc Prolapse :: Two Disc Bulges At C3-4 And C5-6 In My Neck

I have been told that I have two disc bulges at c3-4 and c5-6 in my neck. There is also a large broad based posterior left paracentral and intraforaminal disc protrusion at c6-7 that is compressing the nerve.

I am being referred on to a specialist but that is ages away. I would be greatful for any advice in terms of

(1) what is the likely solution for this diagnosis i.e can physio sort this out or will it be an op?

(2) are there any immediate dangers ?

(3) can i still exercise?

OS.  She had her nurse call and make an appointment for me to see an Ophthalmologist tomorrow.  I had a Brian MRI in December and the report reads.  "There is nonspecific mild focal areas of bilateral supratentorial which is commonly secondary to chronic microvascular ischemia.  MS seems less likely, but cannot be excluded".

I have intermittent headaches only on the left side and at times feel nauseous.   Should I be concerned?
