Jeep - Liberty :: 2003 - Red Fluid Leaking From The Transmission Pan Area
About 2000 miles ago, I had the transmission on my liberty serviced. I had the pan dropped, the fluid drained / refilled, and the filter replaced. The work was done by a jeep dealer. The jeep ran fine with no rough shifting or error codes - in fact, I drove it 500 miles this weekend without incident. This morning, I backed out of my garage and found a big puddle of red fluid on the ground.
I warmed the vehicle up, and checked the transmission fluid level. It appeared to be low, so I added some (about 1/3 a quart). I then looked underneath the jeep and observed red fluid leaking from the transmission pan area. I ran my finger around the bottom of the pan and ended up with more fluid on my hand.
The fluid is clean - no discoloration or burnt odor. What might my problem be? Could it be an improperly sealed trans. pan? Something else?
The jeep is an '03 and the transmission is original to the vehicle. Bought it with 83K and have done fluid / filter changes at 90K, 120K, and 153K. Currently at 155K.
Jeep - Grandcherokee :: Power Steering Fluid Leaking?
I've got the feeling wire clothes hangers, duct tape, & screw clamps may be handy,;>). there appears to be a security cage around the fitting where the hose connects to the pump.

My ABS light and brake light come on within a few minutes of starting in gear. The brakes work fine and the brake shop says that the system is working fine, but I can't get the dang warning lights to turn off.
I've read online that it might be the sender mounted on the rear differential of my 2005 Jeep Liberty.
Jeep - Liberty :: 2002 - Rack And Pinion Failure / Steering Sensitive
My rack and pinion began to fail and my Liberty developed sensitive steering (lane to lane and while towing trailers). I had it replaced locally and aligned but when I got it back it was more sensitive than before and borders on "unsafe to drive". I can imagine what it would do if I put a trailer behind it. In my mind something is binding which is fighting the steering input.
When you turn the steering wheel stays where-ever you steer to (does not return to center). My next repair is a known bad ball joint, but I don't think that is causing this. My question is at 106K could my power steering pump be producing less than full power? Is there a dampener in this system that could have frozen up? I'm ruling out the alignment for now. This is the V-6, 4WD Limited.
I truly intend to repair it forever, but if I can't get past this it goes to the junkyard.
Jeep - Liberty :: Steering Wheel Locked Or Hard To Move When It Is Cold And Car Sitting For A While
I have a Jeep Liberty 2002 Sports. When it is cold and the car has been sitting for a while, when I start the car, the steering wheel is locked or hard to move. I have not tried to force it. But it will move if I rev the engine to a certain point. Once I rev the engine I can move the steering wheel again. I have left the car to warm up before revving the engine, but this does not work with the steering, I have to rev the engine in order to "unlocked" the wheel.
View 7 RepliesJeep - Liberty :: 2012 - Squeaking From Under The Hood When Accelerating - Brake Caliper Slide?
I recently had a dealership mechanic check out a couple of annoying noises my 2012 Jeep Liberty had been making for a few months. The one that really bothers me is a squeak coming from under the hood. It squeaks pretty constantly when I'm accelerating at all, only stops when I brake. Now, I'm totally clueless about cars and I realize how easy it would be for me to be taken advantage of, but I don't want to be bitchy to the guys fixing my car. I was told this squeak is the brake caliper slide so I told them to go ahead and fix it. The guy comes back 3 hours later (had to order the part) and says he's replaced the part and did all he could but it still squeaks. Am I being jerked around? Should I just take it elsewhere for a second opinion?

I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty with over 130,000K. I live at 9K feet in elevation in the mountains of Colorado. While driving to Maryland last fall, my Jeep starting periodically (every couple of days; up to 2 times a day) going thru a 'sluggish' phase, typically around 40miles per hour while excelerating, that it loses power & sort of acts like it has bad gas (starts hesitating). I added several bottles of top of the line Fuel Injector Cleaner to the gas tank, as well as the directly into the carbuerator to clean out the system, and used high-octane fuel in numerous tanks while driving from Maryland to Texas. Nothing really made a difference. Had all 4 Oxygen Sensors changed. Problem continued driving thru Dallas, and check engine light came on once, but then went off before I arrived in Colorado Springs. The dealer in Colorado Springs said they were not able to determine problem without the light on. Since then, the jeep does fine at high altitude where I live, but continues to have sluggish problem around same exceleration speed of approx. 40mph at lower elevation only. Getting ready to make another long road trip, and concerned about lack of power when I might need it and/ or car trouble while on the road.

I had been driving around with gallons of ATF in my trunk for a year until I recently had the power steering pump changed on my 1996 Toyota Camry (which spent many winters sitting outside up in Canada), and now the leak seems worse. I brought it to my mechanic who wants $800 to change a leaky rack & pinion and a hose. But I am but a poor, unfortunate grad student and so I have no more money to put on this old, yet beloved car! So he suggested I put in a combination of ATF and brake fluid, which might slow down the leak. What say you? Will I ruin my newly acquired power steering pump or make matters worse?

I am a new owner of a 2004 F-150 FX4. Bought the truck with a leaking power steering and I have isolated the root cause of the leak. It is coming from the "transfer line" attached to the center of the rack. The top portion has simply rotted through. I have searched the forum and google for about a week and only found one thread where someone actually asked about replacing the hard line on the rack. Unfortunately, no one chimed in with a part source and all my searches only come up with a HP line or Return line....no hard transfer line leading from the rack to the gear box.

My 2008 2wd 4.0l XLT is having a strange power steering issue. When I start the truck and back out of my driveway it feels like I have no power steering. Within about ten seconds of putting the truck in reverse the "check charging system" warning comes on the dash. As long as it is on I have no power steering. That warning stays on for about 15-20 seconds and then goes away. As soon as it goes away power steering is restored.
I have checked my battery and it is good, it is also pretty new. The power steering fluid level is good. Based on another thread that seemed to have a similar issue I replaced the serpentine belt, the idler pulley and the belt tensioner. No changes at all to the issue. My next step is to replace the power steering pump....
