Honda - Odyssey :: 2010 Van Shimmies When Brakes Applied At 60 Mph
Here's my question, my 2010 Honda Van, with 47,000 miles, shimmies when I apply the brakes at 60-65mph. No other time. When I apply the brakes at that speed (very gently, I might add), the van feels like the front end is bouncing around. It doesn't do this at any other speed.

View 3 RepliesBrakes - Honda - Odyssey - Transmissions :: Difficult To Shift From Park Into Any Other Gear
I recently had a spin out on the ice in my 2001 Honda Oddessy Minivan and had to have the back wheel and front rim replaced. I definitely hit the sidewalk at least once and ended up backward in traffic with the back of my van on the sidewalk. Just after getting the work done I noticed for the first time that my car was having trouble shifting out of park into any other gear when starting and when I had it running but put it in park. I have to either press the brake several times, all the way into the floor to get it to shift out of park or pump it once or twice quickly and when I hear a little click, shift it into gear. Is this a transmission problem? Could it have been caused by my spin out?

View 1 RepliesLexus GX 2010+ :: Rumble When Brakes Are Applied?
I just purchased a 2012 GX Ultra! So in the contract from the Toyota dealer (where we purchased the truck from) offered a 36 day "warranty" which says they will cover any problem that we experience from time of purchase to the 36 day mark.
The vehicle came to us clean, one owner, and the Lexus warranty for the 4 yr OR 80,000 KM just ended. The warranty just reached the 4 yr mark and has only 78,000 KM. Firstly we we called Lexus Canada to try to get info on extended warranty or as they call it "ECP". They said the local dealer usually does provide the warranty in a short time frame after expiration like this.
Secondly we are experiencing a sort of rumble when the brakes are applied. We felt this rumble on the test drive, and told the sales person we wanted this fixed before we drove off the lot. When we did leave it still had the rumble. Now we might think it is a mechanism within the car to alert the driver the brakes are being applied.

Passat (B5) :: Rear Brakes Squeak When Applied
Yesterday I had my snow tires installed at Costco. Immediately afterward I noticed that the rear brakes squeak when I apply the brakes. I took the car back to Costco and asked them if they applied the proper torque or if anything unusual appeared during the change-over. They said no.... I loosened and retorqued the wheels and no change......they still squeak when I apply the brakes.
Questions: I assume there are wear indicators on the rear pads, could this be causing the squeeling? If so, aren't they supposed to squeel all the time when they reach their limit? I haven't inspected the wear yet...... What the tolerance is for the amount of lining on the pad. Could this be a rotor problem? I"m not feeling any pedal vibration.

View 2 RepliesPrius (Gen 1) :: Pulsing Raspy Noise When Brakes Are Applied?
Our gen 1 has developed a (currently minor) noise issue when braking. I'd like to sort it out before it becomes serious.
The brakes are still strong, and the regenerative system appears to be working. When the brakes are applied (even gently) there is a pulsing raspy sound, seems like it is coming from the front, driver's side. It is more rapid at higher speeds, and louder during rapid deceleration. I guess I'd call it 'grinding', although this is much less unpleasant than the classic 'grinding brakes' I've heard on other cars.
In any other car I would figure a warped rotor or worn out brake pad. But I had imagined that the regenerative system handled light braking, and conventional brakes took over beyond a certain threshold. Now I'm hoping they work in tandem, even on gentle braking and this is just a boring, simple pad issue.
Prius (Gen 3) :: 2011 Sometimes Lurches Forward When Brakes Applied
I've had my 2011 Prius II for two months, and I love it. One little thing bugs me, however. I have noticed that sometimes when I apply the brakes, the car lurches forward a little bit. But I keep the brake pedal on, and the car does stop. Is there something wrong with my brakes, or is this something that has to do with the regenerative braking?
View 19 RepliesPassat (B6) :: 2008 - Grinding Sound When Brakes Applied
2008 Passat Komfort Wagon with 34,500 miles. Started to get grinding sound when I applied brakes, which diminishes as I drive. Thought it was rust, but sound is very loud and sounds just like pads are gone and digging into rotors. The brake warning light is not on.
Dealer told me rear caliper was closing unevenly and recommended service---not covered by warranty of course. When I picked-up car same noise as before. The service manager told be that the car was just washed and the rust built up in the last hour---I could believe some built-up, but the sounds made my teeth ache. When we went for a test drive the noise got quiter, but was still apparent. The SM told me this is a "normal" noise. I have had many cars with disc brakes, dating back to a 1960 Jaguar; none have made this "normal" sound.

On the r32 there is a rattling noise coming from the right rear wheel. It's a very tinny sound and is definitely a metallic noise. The weird thing is as soon as you his the brake, it goes away. Even if you just lightly press on it, it stops. I took the wheel off, looked around for anything loose and found nothing. It's super loud though and completely embarrassing. My e36 bmw does the same exact thing as well and has done so for years, but its much quieter and not as often. On the mkiv its almost constant and at every speed.
View 9 RepliesKia Rio :: 2009 - High Pitched Squeal When Brakes Applied
I recently purchased a used 2009 Kia Rio. I really am enjoying the car. While there is nothing fancy to it, it gets me to and from work and that's basically what I need. However, when I apply the brakes, there is a high-pitched squeal that is made until the car is almost at a stop. It does this I would say 90% of the time. The brakes work just fine and are in fact very sensitive. I've tried researching this online and it seems a lot of people have this problem because of the type of brake pad used. The dealership I purchased it from is more than an hour away from my home, so I am reluctant to drive down there if there really is nothing that will be done.
View 3 RepliesChevy :: 2007 HHR - Brakes Squeaking But Stop When Applied
I have a 2007 Chevy HHR. A couple of weeks ago I had to change the caliper on the driver's side of the car. I had some squeaking after, but bled the brakes and the squeaking went away. The other day I took the caliper off and painted it. I have custom wheels and you can see the caliper plainly, it was rusted so I painted it. Now I am getting the squeaking again, but it stops when I apply the brakes. I bled them again, but still the squeaking. This is driving me crazy. Could it be the "chirper" that is dragging on the rotor? Also I want to add, it squeaks until I get up to about 45 mph. Then it stops. And as I said, it stops when I apply the brakes.
View 6 RepliesNissan - Rogue :: 2009 - Shuddering After Applied The Brakes
We bought a used 2009 Nissan Rogue about a year ago. According to the previous owner, all services were done at the local Nissan dealer.
About 4000 km after we bought it, my wife noticed that it was shuddering after she applied the brakes. So I took it to the dealer... and they said that the front calipers were seized and needed to be replaced. It only had 82,000 km or so (51,000 miles) on it then. The previous owners paid for the repair, which included new calipers, pads and rotors.
Fast forward to yesterday, and I was told by the independent garage that we take all of our vehicles to that one of the rear calipers had seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle only has 104,000 km on it (about 65,000 miles). Again, the caliper had to be replaced, along with all pads and rotors on the rear end. When I commented to him that we've replaced 3 out of 4 calipers, he said that the other rear caliper looked like it had been replaced too.
My question to the group is - should calipers that have been serviced properly seize like that? I'm of the opinion that they shouldn't if they're being checked regularly and serviced properly.
Am I correct? Or not? I've owned a lot of cars in my lifetime, and this is the first time I've had seized calipers on any of them.
