Touareg :: Transmission Doesn't Shift Smoothly
Picked up the T-Reg on thur. Black w/teak V-8.! Had the factor hitch installed? Service dept indicated a change was needed in the on board computer to adjust for the additional strain that towing will put on the drive train. What may have been changed?
The trans does not seem to shift as easy as when I drove it first, it could be just the amount of time that I spent in it on the test drive run. If you leave from a stop and try to leave smoothly it is a little harsh, not as smooth as the A-6 Avant with Tiptronic that we had.
Touareg :: Loud Ting Sound When Shift Transmission From R To P
When I shift my transmission from R to P I hear a very loud "TING" sound. It doesn't do it from N to P, D to P or S to P. This is too loud to be normal.

I have an 04 V6, 42,000 mi. There is an intermitent problem with the transmission. The MFI display doesn't hilite the transmission mode (P,R,N,D,S) or gear (1,2,3,4,5,6) and the tiptronic mode appears to be disabled. On occasion the transmission doesn't want to shift into higher gears. Seems to happen when the engine is cold (So Ca cold, not Mid West cold).

This is on my 7.3PSD. I've observed that the 1-2 gear shift drops about 1,000 RPMs and takes a good half second or longer to do so when given a lot of accelerator pedal input. And then the 2-3 shift is a very quick and harsh shift.
If I am accelerating gently the 2-3 shift is as unnoticeable as the 1-2 shift is quick. Is the slow 1-2 shift causing the trans to protect itself and affecting the 2-3 shift? And if so, what do I do to resolve all of this? I changed the trans fluid a week ago and there is no change.

I've noticed that my v8 does not shift into 6th until I get to about 2200 rpm, which equates to app 43mph, now I typically drive around town 30-35mph speed limit and If I shift manually into 6th via tip-t my mpg average goes up by 2-3 mpg. Can change when the VW shifts into 6th?

I'm still trying to figure out the tiptronic trans. Sometimes it seems to have a mind of its own. One anomoly I've noticed fairly consistently is a "second" shift within 2nd gear. It happens a little above 2000rpm and it can be felt, heard and observed as a drop of several hundred rpm. It's as if the trans is shifting on its own, but its not since it remains in second gear until I upshift into third.

I just rebuilt the 390 in my 70 pickup and the c6 came out with it. I didn't touch the trans besides putting a new front seal on it, but now that I have the truck moving again, I don't get high gear. First to second shift is decent, even though I had to wire the kickdown down so I could drive it until I could get the holley kickdown extension. But I can give it full goose and the trans just won't give me 3rd. Even if I shift it manually it won't give me 3rd.

It happened once while I was driving around in low differential. The message read something like:
Drive More Slowly or shift to High Differential
I was only doing about 5mph when this happened and haven't been able to reproduce the error.
This is only the third unique error message my Touareg has shown me in its first 8 months of life. I wonder how many different error messages are programed into this car. (I bet there are many). I'm not being critical. I find it fascinating. I have never driven a car that was so in touch with its inner workings as this Touareg.
S-10 :: Transmission Hard Shift Into 2nd Gear?
I get a hard shift into second gear, it jerks into 2nd but not all the time. I only notice it after driving on the freeway for several miles. It has 60,000 original miles. Service Engine Soon light come on after the hard shifts with a transmission fault code. I reset the Engine light and let it set 20 or so minutes and it shifts like new.

Taurus :: Transmission Won't Shift Into Drive
'02 Taurus SES, 3.0L Vulcan, AX4N, 140K miles.
The car drove normally the other day, but now the transmission won't shift into drive. Actually, I've been able to get it to shift to drive by easing back on the accelerator, but it will shift back to the next lower gear as soon as you attempt to get back on the gas.
I dropped the pan today to check for metal fragments and found nothing out of the ordinary, just the normal graphite-like sludge around the magnet, maybe about 1/16" or so thick. This leads me to believe that the transmission has not (as of yet) begun to consume itself.
The OBD II is throwing a code of 0750, which is SHIFT SOLENOID A MALFUNCTION. Don't want to deceive myself in thinking this is something simple, but could this fix be as straightforward as going in and replacing the shift solenoid?
I did a little investigating (not sure if I came up with the correct info, though) and found some info regarding testing the solenoid coil resistance. Disconnected the trans harness and took some continuity readings between the pins. Here's what I was able to obtain.
PIN 2 to PIN 1 3.6ohms
PIN 2 to PIN 6 15.6ohms
PIN 2 to PIN 8 16.6ohms
If my test method is correct, these readings are showing that the coil associated with PIN 1 is weak.
Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Transmission Won't Shift From 1st To 2nd
I have a 2003 Santa Fe automatic transmission that sometimes will not shift out of 1st gear. Sometimes it works great. I took it to my local garage and he told me that it needed a transmission control module and to take it to the dealer. I took it to the dealer and they said nothing wrong with it at all. I brought it home and still some days it works great and some days will not shift out of 1st gear. What part needs replacement?

I recently did a C6 rebuild on my 78 4X4. After the rebuild, when I go for a drive, the transmission does not AUTOMATICALLY shift out of 1st.
1. I can shift MANUALLY from 1st to 2nd with no problem, but it never goes into 3rd in D. If it was a system pressure issue, I suspect that I couldn't engage at all?
2. In Drive it just seems to be in 1st the whole time no matter how high the rpm.
3. I checked the vacuum at the modulator and I get 18 in .
4. I have tried every color modulator band and have the black one in now.
5. During the rebuild, I cleaned the governor, so I don't think it would be jammed up since it wouldn't shift even when I first drove it.
6. During the rebuild, I cleaned the valve body.
7. I confirmed the kick down is free.
8. I get a hard shift in reverse and from 2nd to 1st, but when I go to Drive, and then second, I dont notice a hard kick. Could it be that I messed up the orientation of the front clutch seal? (I hope this isn't the case!)
Here is the last couple of things I can do:
1. Could the intermediate band be the issue if I can shift in manual if it's not shifting hard?
2. The mechanic said it could still be a governor gunked up, but I'm skeptical since it never worked after the cleaning.
3. The filter screen pan from the rebuild seems to sit higher than the original that has a pipe that hangs lower. Is this the suction or the return from the system. If it's the suction I can put the original in.
Is it bad to drive her in manual if I need to? Obviously I'll keep the speed low since I can't get into 3rd. When I air pressure tested the transmission before the install, everything engaged like it was supposed to and all of my clearances were solid.
1999 Saturn SC2 Transmission Won't Shift In Drive
My 1999 Saturn SC2 won't shift in drive. If I put in 3 it shifts and when I get going faster I can put in D. Once it gets warm it shifts in D. What causes this and how to fix it?

My 2002 Camry has an automatic transmission that works fine except when it is about 20 degrees or colder. The problem is that the transmission does not want to shift from first to second gear. After about ten minutes things shift normally. Other than that I have had no issues with the transmission.
