Golf/GTI VI :: Front End Clunk Or Knock Occasionally
I have been hearing/feeling an occasional noise from my front end. Not a low-freq "thud" more like something sticky. Usually at very slow speeds, when turning the wheel, going over uneven pavement, or pulling away from stop. It sounds and feels to me like a steering rack issue, but maybe CV joints? 40k miles, 6-spd manual no mods.
View 3 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Clunk / Knock From Front Driver Side
Recently got quite a noticable clunk/knock from the front driver side of my '10 Sonata with the 2.4.
Only happens at low speeds, most notably in parking lots.
My best guess is a stabilizer link or a ball joint.
Took a video to explain the sound I am hearing.

Tiguan :: Front End Clunk - Sway Bar Bushings?
My Tig has been doing a sharp clunk (single) for awhile when going a bit too fast over speed bumps. I just ignored it, as I'm not flying over bumps regularly and I had just replaced the OEM struts all around. Now when accelerating over 60 kph the car has a side to side shimmy. Also when compressing or unloading the front end suddenly, like with dips on the road, makes it clunk. Checking the various suspension components?
View 6 RepliesTiguan :: 2011 - Loose Clunk In Front Going Over High Frequency Bumps?
Have just picked up a 2011 Tiguan Highline, and there is a loose clunk in the front going over high frequency bumps in the road. I own a MKIV Jetta TDi and it feels similar to bad sway bar bushings on my MKIV, however it's not the bushings on the Tiguan.
I crawled underneath and tried to find looseness in the suspension with no luck. The sway bar end links seem tight (compared to the MKV Jetta I also have), and the strut mounts do not seem to be loose.
What I did find were some suspect control arm bushings. I'm new to suspension noises in this platform, our MKV has been flawless for the past 7 years. Could these worn bushings cause a loose clunk?
I also checked the subframe bolts and fuel lines that come up in common searches.
Golf/GTI VI :: 2004 - Single Loud Knock From Front Left Wheel
I own a 2004 VW GTI VR6, with 70k miles. i bought it used (at 40k) from carmax. Ever since I've owned it I have had a problem with a single loud knock sound i can hear from my front left wheel.
it happens in two scenarios1) when i back out of a parking space and start turning my wheel - it's only a single knock (hence i don't think it's the CV, and its been pretty constant for at least 2 years), and happens at about halfway through the steering wheel travel.2) it also happens when i accelerate hard, or decelerate. it's a single knock, or pop, or clunking sound. it almost feels like something is loose, or reseating itself as the car puts pressure on the wheel as i accelerate, and then again once again when the car decelerates.
it's pretty damn loud, and disconcerting... i can feel it in the steering wheel as well. it seems to be louder when the car has not been driven for a few days.
I've taken the car back to carmax several times over the past three years but they have not been able to find the fault. they have replaced my engine mounts twice (in 30k miles that I've had the car), which i also think is a little weird. they have also replaced all the tie rod ends, etc. - all the obvious stuff.
I am at my wit's end here - carmax pretty much think I'm crazy, and my warranty has run out, but i think I've bought a car that was in an accident - i'm expecting my front end to fall apart one day as I'm driving...
Golf IV R32 :: Clunk On Deceleration?
ive read through most of the "clunk" threads none fit what im experiencing. so anyway, i just got the car back from getting the coil packs replaced under recall and im driving on the highway cruising at a steady 70mph. every time i take my foot off the throttle from a steady speed or accelerating i get this clunk and quick vibration in the front end, i can feel it through the steering wheel. thought it was the adapters so checked them, theyre all torqued properly. i can feel the clunk through the steering wheel, and its not the normal clunk when the awd disengages. it only happens at highway speeds when i let off throttle. could it be the dogbone or other engine mounts maybe?
View 5 RepliesOldsmobile - Alero :: 2003 - Loud Clunk In Front End When Turning
2.2l '03 Olds Alero, 89k miles
My car has an unsettling noise. It is a loud clunk in the front end that can be felt. It only happens when turning right (just past where the wheels are aligned) when going forward. I believe it also happens when backing out of a spot to the left. It is only one solid clunk. This clunk isn't always loud, and can be subtle. If I do a figure eight, the clunk will be the loudest with the first wheel turn to the right, then will either get quieter or disappear all together. Let the car sit for a while, and the first turn will be the loudest.
Things that have been tried:Full Strut/shock assembly replacement on both sides of the front suspension.Sway bar link replacement on both sides. Both front control arms, complete with ball joints and bushings have been replaced.
Possibilities I haven't changed or on the list to examine/replace:
-Sway bar bushings
-Wheel bearings
-CV Joints
-Engine mounts
-Tie rod ends
What should I be looking at first? Is there something I am missing? It's been to the mechanics a few times. For a week after the control arms and sway bar links were replaced it was ok, or dull enough not to hear. Now it's back as loud as before.
Golf VI R :: Loud Clunk Coming From The Front Shock Area
So after a few months of having these springs on the car I noticed that as of recently there is a loud CLUNK coming from the front shock area. This specifically occurs in the morning while backing up out of the driveway, after the car has been sitting for a long time. This happens at low speed as soon as i turn the wheel to align with the street. To make matters worst, there seems to be a more persistent noise coming from the rear whenever i go over any sort of rough surface, almost as if something is loose . I took it to my local VW to see if they could replicate the noises and they did. I did not mention I had springs on the car (VWR), should I have ? What could be causing these issues?

I recently purchased a 2009 XLE V6 and love it! I've also owned a 2008 Corolla S and 1994 Camry SE V6.
I do have a question however. In the 2009, both front doors make a very loud clunk when closed as if a very large piece has broken off on the inside.
Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: 2000 - Bad Miss Or Stutter / Knock At High RPM And Deceleration
2000 F250 7.3L ZF 6spd 4x4 regular cab long bed 253k
DP F6 chip, 4" exhaust, WW2, EBV delete
I run 5w40 Rotella Synthetic. Oil was changed about 1,000 miles ago. I also added a quart of Hot Shot stiction eliminator. I use Power Service and Stanadyne lubricity in every tank. Fuel filter is new.(motorcraft)
For a month or so its been acting weird. I get a stumble/miss/stutter, at random, but mostly under hard acceleration and high rpm (specifically approx 2500-2800rpm). It will also do it on decel when I lift after accellerating . Recently, I noticed it is also idling roughly. The engine is shaking and it feels like a miss. When it does its "thing" it sounds like a single "knock". Occassionally, it sort of sounds like an injector "buzzing". I've been using the "stock" tune for the last few weeks, to minimize any chance of engine damage, as I have to drive it. Turning up the chip makes the problems more noticeable and happen at a lower rpm. The truck has plenty of power, and pulls hard, except for the "stutter". If I hold my foot in it to "push through" the initial stumble at 2500 or so, it will keep going a few hundred more rpm, and then really start bucking.
There are no meaningful codes. I DO have:
EBV related soft codes - makes sense since its deleted.
Overboost related codes- from turning the chip up - won't happen in stock setting
A soft code for the back pressure SENSOR. I have a new one and will be cleaning the tube when I get a chance. I unplugged the sensor and it made no difference in the miss issue.
I have recently done the following in pursuit of a solution to all this:
New IPR (autozone) valve and pigtail
New ICP (motorcraft) and pigtail ( sensor had oil in it)
New CMP and pigtail. (2 actually. First a standard pc139 for the obs, and currently a Napa echlin correct for '00) No change. Although it initially had the dreaded Ford small head light grey sensor and failed cct for #3 & 8. After the cps change, it passed cct.
Accellerator Pedal Position Sensor. It would not read any higher then 3.95v at wot, and only 0.50v at idle, so I installed a new one. After adjusting it a little, I have 0.76v at idle, and 4.02 at wot. Didn't affect the stumble issue, but it seemed to greatly improve/eliminate my parking lot speed "bucking".
I just did the UVCH's. The passenger side was pretty much unplugged. But they all looked good. No burnt, melted,or chafed wires anywhere. I probably could have just plugged it back in, but I changed both sides with new Motorcraft parts anyway. I did the gaskets and the uvch, but not the engine side harness/pigtail, as they looked ok. I also did the 0.50 mod as a preventative measure. After seeing the unplugged harness, I really thought this would be the end of the problem, but its not. Very frustrated.
As a side note, I was surprised to see that I have 8 AD injectors, and not an AE in cyl 8.
I have an old outdated snapon scanner. Its only good up to '99, but I am able to scan my 2000 as a '99. I think I'm missing some pids though.
I can do cct and buzz test, but no PERDEL readings.
As far as ICP, it idles at about 450psi, at approx 12% IPR dc. On a brief 2nd gear wot run, it will hit (and hold as long as I have road to stay in it) a little over 2900psi, at 41-42% IPR duty cycle. I did notice, during these near instantaneous stumble events, ICP would flutter on the scanner about 75-100psi. Its almost too quick to even see it.
Tiguan :: Loud Metallic Buzzing Noise From Front Of Roof At Speeds Over 70 Mph?
I took my first road trip last weekend in my new-to-me 2010 Tiguan. At speeds over 70mph, there is a quite loud buzzing noise from the front of the roof area. It sounds like 2 pieces of metal are slapping together at a very high rate of speed. I can't for the life of me figure out what it could be. It is really, really annoying. So much so, that I may take another car for my NYC to Florida trip next month. I'd really like to take the Tiguan though...
I have the panoramic roof - it all seems tight and has no rattles whatsoever. There are no loose moldings, no gaps in the windshield molding. The roof rails appear to be tight, however the front of the right one is slightly raised off of the roof surface. I was going to try to tighten it somehow, but don't know how to even access the screws that hold it down.
Camry :: Clunk Rattle From Front Left Side - Loud Snapping Noise
I was pulling out of the driveway and heard really loud snapping noise. Jumped out of the car expecting to see damage, but everything looked fine. I didn't drive over anything or hit anything.
Now, I notice that when my left front wheel goes over bumps and potholes there's this metallic rattle. Took it my mechanic right after and we both looked the front suspension over. Everything looks good. It does drive fine.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2000 F250 - Front Suspension Noise - Loud Knock As If Left Shock Is Bottoming Out
I have a noise with my new (2.6k miles) 2000 Diesel F250 Crew Cab. When I make low speed, right turns while crossing any type of depression in the road I hear a loud knock as if the left shock is bottoming out. There's an intersection near my house with runoff depressions across the road, I almost always hear the noise when making that turn. I've occasionally heard it coming from the right side when making a left turn.

View 9 RepliesTiguan :: Knock Coming From Rear
when the car has been driving for at least 20-30mins and you come to a stop (either lights or parking lot) as you release the brake pedal the rear knocks. it will also do this sometimes as you apply the brake and shifting from neutral to drive or reverse.
View 2 RepliesCamry :: Knock / Clunk When Going Over Bumps At Low Speed - Strut Replacement
I Spent the day yesterday replacing all four struts on my '07 LE. I went with KYB, the installation went well (so I assumed). I put everything back together exactly as I took it down. Outside of the struts alone, I reused all other parts as everything seemed to be in good order.
Test drive: I seem to have a knock/clunk when going over bumps/pot holes at low speed (<35 and especially <15mph). At highway speeds (65+), I do not hear it at all, even if I hit something. I had a friend ride in the back and confirm that it was coming from the driver's side (left) rear.
Took everything back out and inspected, I noticed that the strut mount has a flange that runs to the flat side of the strut rod that looked a little worn, so decided to go buy a new strut mount (Monroe garbage, only thing available locally). I did notice the Monroe strut mount didn't have that flange the OEM one had, it is just a circle...I didn't know if that mattered. I Put in new strut mount on, same sounds in the same conditions. I want the clunk to go away.
Tiguan :: Subtle Clunk When Accelerating Or Decelerating?
I have a 2011 Tiguan S automatic. If I'm coasting around 20 mph and hit the pedal, I can feel a clunk or catch type feeling. It also happens when decelerating and down shifting around slow speeds. I know this has been discussed before, but no outcomes were stated.
View 1 RepliesTiguan :: Odd Highway Driving Feel And Clunk
Yesterday I was on the highway - dry surface, a little bit of wind, but not much. While driving I kept feeling *kind of* like the Tiguan was getting pushed around by the wind, but not really. I looked at the trees, at the other cars and trucks on the road and none of them seemed to be moving around like me.
It was "kind of" like getting pushed by the wind - but actually more like the car was "crabbing" ... like the wheels were not spinning at the same speed. Very similar to the way it feels on snow/slippery conditions when traction control kicks in and straigtens out the Tiguan. It was like the front was fighting the rear and the car was twisting.
I chalked it up to being windy, although I've been in the Tiguan before in windy conditions and this was not the same.
Then today, I was leaving Home Depot. I closed the door, started the Tiguan, foot on brake and put the car in drive. Then immediately I had 4 tap-tap-tap-tap. Very much like if someone was pulling into the spot behind me and tapped me with their bumper.
I spun around in the seat and no one was in the car behind me, plus I have the trailer hitch in, so it would be a different feeling.
hhmmm ... very odd. I put the car back in park, back to drive and no tap.
Now I am curious. I turn the car off, wait a second, start the car again, back to drive, and sure enough another tap.
This is not the engagement of the transmission, this is a harder tap that happens after the transmission engages.
Tried it another couple of times and can replicate it.
I have to drive by the exit where my VW dealer is to get back home, so I stop by *HOPING* that I could replicate it again to the service manager, and sure enough - close the door, start the Tiguan, foot on brake and put the car in drive. Transmission engages, then immediately tap-tap-tap-tap
"hhmm that's not right he says". It was too late to get it into the shop tonight, but I left it overnight. Given my odd driving experience yesterday and the tap-tap-tap today, he was not sure if it was a safety issue with continuing to drive it.
