Golf IV / Jetta IV :: EBrake Light Is Always On
I am having a problem with my MK4 Jetta. The problem is that the light that says "Brake" on the dash is on and it is very dimly lit when the ebrake is down/ disengaged. But when I pull it up, it is lit up as much as it should. Also most of the time it will get even more dim if you tap the brake pedal or the clutch. My Jetta is scheduled to go get inspected in a few days and I need to fix this or it wont pass. I included a video of what it's doing so click on it and maybe y'all will be able to tell me what's wrong with it. [URL] ....
View 6 RepliesCamry :: 2004 - Ebrake Goes All The Way To Floor?
My teenage son bought a 2004 Solara. While cleaning it out, he pulled the ebake handle, which was badly rusted and got stuck in the locked position. He took apart the wheel, stripped some bolts, and had to take the calipers to a local shop to have the bolts removed. While there, he asked the shop if he could just cut the ebrake cables and remove the inner shoe assemblies. They said yes since it is a separate system from the disc brakes. So he removed the shoes and cut the cables to both rear wheels. But after replacing the calipers, and bleeding them, the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor. I came over and bled them myself, but the pedal still goes to the floor. I don't see how, but is it possible the ebrake system is interconnected to the regular brakes and causing this problem? What could be causing this? He said it was working perfectly fine before he had the ebrake issue.

Obviously an electrical issue, no way all these codes spring up all at once for separate reasons. Any fuses, relays, harnesses or grounds that relate to all or most of these problems.
Car has trouble at start up, takes a little longer to turn over. If I don't stay on the gas it will eventually cut off. Once I am driving its fine. Its only once the E brake is up, it will cut off right after the brake light comes on.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2002 - Ebrake Don't Work?

View 7 RepliesVolvo :: EBrake Disengaged With Loud Bam When Taking Off Car From Park
I changed my rear brakes this past weekend and noticed that since then I have an odd sound when I drive off.
So I will park the car and engage the ebrake. I will then return to the car after a while (overnight etc) and disengage the ebrake, then put it in reverse / drive and when i give it gas to drive off, BAAAM - it sounds like you hit something or ran over something. I can stop the car fully and drive off - nothing. If I dont use the ebrake - nothing.
What in the world could this be??? It is quite loud and really scared that crap out of me - like you hit another car or something.

I was coming home from work today and I got a little screwed over. So I got stuck about 10 times in 2 feet of snow and my tires looked like they burned out they smell horrible but I have a bigger problem. The brake light when on the e-brake and stayed on what does that mean?? is it a leak? Then the ABS light when on probably because of no traction but is it a major problem?

I have a 1997 ford f250 heavy duty with the 7.3 diesel. i went to adjust the ebrake the other day and found no adjustment point. Every vehicle I have ever owned had a adjustment point but no where on this one? I am thinking of cutting the cable under the rig make 2 loops with cable ferrules on each ends of the cut and put one of those tighteners you would put on a barb wire fence just smaller...

E brakes were sticking so I took off wheels, rotors, calipers, and cleaned the E Brake caliper and lubed it. Started driving and E brakes are still sticking? What gives? Could the cable be hung up? Wonder if I should replace the E brake cables.
View 4 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: EBrake Grabbing In Reverse When Disengaged
99 f150 supercab LWB 2wd 5 speed with 4wheel disc. I just replaced the rear rotors, pads, ebrake hardware and ebrake shoes. I have the shoes adjusted in as much as possible. With the e brake pedal disengaged and backing up, the e brake shoes grab the rotors and try to stop the truck from backing up.
I have lifted the rear end and pulled off the star wheel cover and turned it back as far as I can. When I rotate the tire forward by hand its fine, but when I reverse the rotation I can see the star wheel move abruptly through the hole in the backing plate as the brakes grab the rotor. What to do next?
I put the star wheel in the way the last one came out, could it be backwards, does it matter? I should tell you that currently I only have 1 side (drivers) ebrake installed because I am missing a piece for the other side that I can't buy. Will be going to a junkyard soon. This should not cause what I'm experiencing though.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: EBrake Light Staying On Constantly / Loss Of Power
Where to begin, I've checked things i thought could be the issue but aren't. I am having a constant e-brake light on which as you know emits the loud and annoying beep sound. What I've checked and done:
I checked the brake fluid, its fully topped off. I also removed the ebrake switch (the thing under it that when depressed pushes the button and turns the light off) and just crossed the wires to complete the circuit (this does the same as the button essentially) before buying a new one to see if that was the issue, which is doesn't seem to be. I had my buddy run vagcom which turned up no codes that SHOULD make this issue occur. I even popped in a new brake light switch which didn't work.
At the same time of this happening my car is making ZERO boost at all. Is it a coincidence? I don't know... it's just weird they would both happen at the same exact time. Again, no codes are showing up. Checked lines and didn't see any potential boost leaks. What to do.
Hyundai - Accent :: 2004 - Ebrake Doesn't Have Any Tension / Brake Light Not Coming On?
I have a 2004 Hyundai Accent, stick shift. I replaced the rear brake shoes and the wheel cylinder on the driver's side and bled it after, and now my e-brake doesn't have any tension in the handle and the brake light doesn't come on when you pull it up. The brake does set enough, when you pull the handle up, to stop the car from moving, but I think on a steep incline it would probably roll. How to fix it?

View 2 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: AC Stops Blowing Cool Air / Dash Lights Up With Numerous Warning Lights
I had just picked my kid up from school, as I turn out of the parking lot my A/C stops blowing cool air, I check the A/C screen and it still says it's set on High with temp at 68. However, it is blowing very low with warm air. Seconds later the dash lights up with numerous warning lights. I'm on the highway and I'm able to gather speed, but each time I do I hear the engine revving like crazy. We only live a few miles from the school so I am able to make it home. Once home, I turn off the car and turn it back on. The only warning lights displayed now are the red triangle and the yellow check engine light. I turn the car off, pop the hood, I check the belt and it was fine. I checked the oil and it seemed fine. I check the coolant overflow and it was empty.
View 15 RepliesPassat (B5) :: 1998 - How To Make Front Fog Lights Available In Euroswitch City Lights (Parking Lights) Mode
1998 Passat 1.8t B5 sedan. OEM fog lights up front. No rear fog lights.
I recently upgraded to a "Euro" light switch to get more flexibility with my lights. Put tape on the TFL pin to disable DRLs in OFF Mode. Put tape on the 56d pin to disable DRLs in CITY LIGHTS (Parking Lights) mode. Completely successful -- no DRLs, just as taping the TFL pin on the original light switch accomplished long ago.
BEFORE I did any taping this time, I installed the Euro switch AS IS and tested all of its modes and physical positions:
(1) OFF: No fog light position available (switch knob will not pull out). As expected and okay.
(2) FULL ON Fog lights come on (but who the hell can see them?!?) when switch knob is pulled out one stop into the fog light position -- and the little front fog symbol on the switch lights up. Again, expected and just fine.
(3) CITY LIGHTS (Parking Lights): The fog lights position is physically available by pulling the switch knob out one stop... BUT THE PARKING LIGHTS DO NOT COME ON (regardless of ignition switch position, emergency hand brake position, etc., etc.) And the little fog light symbol on the switch does not light up. (Not surprisingly, pulling the knob further out to the REAR fog light position does nothing either.)
THIS IS NOT GOOD - since with a Euroswitch one ought to be able to manually select and de-select the fog lights while in CITY LIGHTS (Parking Lights) mode!
How to make my FRONT FOG LIGHTS available in Euroswitch CITY LIGHTS (Parking Lights) mode...?
Prius (Gen 3) :: Fog Lights Came On Even When Car Is Off
I bought the OEM-quality fog lights from the site's Prius store a while ago and had them installed. Two days ago, I was walking down my drive in the middle of the night to get the newspaper. My car was parked right outside the garage with the doors locked. I was startled to see that my fog lights were on,even though my car was off. My car had been sitting outside for 2 days due to a brief cold snap we had here (I had filled all 3 of the garage parking spots with thousands of my super-tropical plants so they wouldn't be hurt by the cold).
Thinking back, this was the first time in a really long time that I have even seen my car in a nighttime/dark setting, so no telling how long my fog lights have been going without ever shutting off. I only drive my Prius about once every two or three weeks, so it usually is sitting in my garage. Anyway, I have turned it on/off, locked/unlocked it manually and with the remote, driven it up and down the street, turned the lights and the fog lights on/off in every possible combination, etc., and the fog lights simply will NOT go off. Nothing happens when I push the fog light button on the dash. When the car is powered off, the fog lights dim down to approximately the output of a 7w household nightlight. They brighten on up to their normal intensity/output once the car is powered on.
I know NOTHING at all about car wiring, so I don't have a clue what might be wrong. I replaced the Prius battery with a more powerful one a while back; otherwise the car battery would definitely be dead by now.
