Lexus ES 2007-12 :: Green Coolant Or Is It Just Discolored?
I am wondering this is a new Coolant reservoir the dealer put in and the coolant looks green or did the Lexus dealer screw up and put green instead of the red Toyota coolant ? or is that the Windshield washer fluid res?

I looked under the hood of my 2013 Lexus GS 350 F Sport and there's a pinkish materials on the front most reservoir right in the center of the vehicle. It's bubbled up outside of the cap and seems to have formed a crust of sorts. Which fluid this is?

I have lots of info these manifolds. Have gone through four including both sides twice. This last time it seems the manifold has a crusty residue on the inside. The mechanic says it may be a bad head gasket.

My wife drives an 07 camry; 4 cyl/auto. the transmission has a dipstick so I can check it, and I can see it is discolored. the car has 76kmi on it. she just drives it back and forth to work; no abuse, no start/stop, just highway and 45mph roads.
I am going to change the trans oil. I see on the dipstick it take Toyota WS fluid. I'll buy it at the dealer to be safe.
do I *really* need to drop the pan and change the filter? I have a fluid evacuater, and could suck it right out the dipstick, or I can pull the pan plug.
Is the dealer going to sell me a filter and pan gasket? I have read that many dealers wont even sell me the parts.
Avalon 2005-12 :: Steering Wheel And Shift Knob Leather Discolored
2005 Avalon LTD. The leather on the steering wheel and shift knob are discolored and deteriorating. It is flaking off and getting sticky. Is this something that can be re-wrapped at an upholstery shop or elsewhere?

I terribly need to change the antifreeze/coolant in my 97 passat, but I am not sure if there is a plug on the bottom of the radiator that will allow me to drain the system.... Any plug or whatever on this radiator? Also is this an easy enough job for me to do by myself?

My buddy has a 2000 1.8T Passat and he has oil in coolant reservoir. It does not blow out any smoke. It runs fine, and does NOT have coolant in the oil. We pulled off the oil/coolant heat exchanger on the oil filter and it appears to be good. We blocked off one end and filled it with coolant and put compressed air to the other end. Nothing came out. He took it to the shop and they said the turbo seals were good. I can't verify that though.
Head gasket? Worse yet cracked head or block? The car does have 170,000 miles.
Passat (B7) :: 2012 TDI - Coolant Keeps Disappearing
on my dads 2012 TDI, he has about 53K miles on it. one day, suddenly coolant light came on, and the tank was low. Took it to the dealer, they topped if off and said they had no idea. it happened again last Friday, I topped it off with distilled water (had nothing else ATM) and took it to the dealer, they said they did a pressure test and everything is good, no leaks and sent me back.
Today, same thing happened. coolant light came on. Its getting dropped off for the 3rd time, but this time I told them I want answers, not just topping it off.
What could cause this? it seems really odd that a whole tank can empty itself without any visible leaks.

i drive about 12 miles aday...and she has been going through some coolant lately, no puddle under the car or where i can see...doesnt over heat, drives just fine ect...
06 2.0t passat.
Thought maybe its the head gasket..there is some white smoke.

2004 VW Passat, 1.8L Turbo. So my coolant needs to be flushed since it doesn't look good and I for the life of me cannot find the t-stat housing or the water pump. I wonder if they changed everything in the 2004.

The car is my wifes DD. 7300mi, 2.5L I5 auto.
For the last few months whenever I walk past the car I could smell a faint coolant smell near the front of the car. My wife couldn't smell it, so I figured I would just ask the dealer about it when I took it in for the 10,000mi service. Yesterday she gets home saying she could smell it so bad, she also noticed the smell seemed to linger in the back seat when she was strapping the kid in his car seat. I checked under the hood and I can not find ANY sort of a leak whatsoever. At this point I'm thinking of taking it in to the dealer sooner to have them check it out.

Passat (B5) :: Coolant Boiling - Oil In Reservoir
Long story short, I got a 2001.5 1.8t M5 Passat with 63k miles 2 weeks ago.
This weekend I was driving around and pulled into the driveway and noticed the coolant was boiling in the coolant reservoir. It also looked like there was some oil in the reservoir. Take it to the shop, turns out that the plastic impeller on the water pump broke at 64k miles. This is wierd because the car never actually overheated. The mechanic doesn't think that the head gasket is blown or i have a cracked/warped head because the car still runs fine. He suggests I replace the water pump, timing belt, coolant reservoir, thermostat and obviously flush the coolant. I go ahead with the repair since its almost time for the TB anyway.
After bending over and taking it from the shop on a timing belt and water pump repair, I think I am all good. Today I open everything up after a few days of driving around just to check up on stuff. I open the coolant reservoir and there is telltale signs of oil in the coolant. Now i think this was an issue before the water pump went. Searching the archives I see that the oil cooler is a common failure. This could have also contributed to the failure of the water pump and maybe the thermostat, I don't know.
So instead of bending over for the mechanic for a second time in a week , I think I'm going to replace the oil cooler and flush the coolant system again and change the oil myself. Poked around looking at the oil cooler and it seems as if there is the slightest sign of an oil leak on the outside, which could mean there is a leak inside. I don't have compressed air so I'm not sure how I can test the oil cooler for leaks.
I am thinking i need:
-Oil cooler (some suggest S4, some suggest TDI one?)
-Oil cooler gasket
-Feed and return lines
-Hose clamps
-g12 coolant
-Oil filter
-Synthetic oil
Should I replace the upper and lower radiator hoses while I've got the coolant out? What else should I replace while the coolant is out. I see people suggest flushing the system several times. Should i use G12 everytime or can I just use water to flush until its clean and fill with G12?
Passat (B7) :: Location Of Coolant Sensor?
Looking for the location of the coolant sensor.
I'm pretty sure I have a faulting coolant sensor. Light comes on with a message in the MFI indicating coolant is low, but when I check, its at the maximum line on the overflow reservoir. So I assume the sensor is not accurate/faulting.
Spoke to my service advisor who said the sensor is attached to the reservoir and you buy it all as one item, sensor and reservoir combined.
I've also seen threads that indicate it's a stand alone sensor toward the back of the engine compartment.
Need to confirm either of these as being accurate locations for the sensor? Is there more than one?
Passat (B5) :: 1999 - Coolant Light Went On?
Its a 1999 graphite blue v6 passat. She was pulling away one night to head home and her coolant light went on. I popped the hood and a bone dry reservoir was staring back at me. i wasn't sure what color coolant to add so i put in some water for her to make it home. two days later it was dry again. She put down cardboard and nothing showed, nothing in the exhaust smoke and well I am not sure if these engines are known for this but its weird shes been driving all these years without filling up other than routine maintenance and now its disappearing. I bought the blue vw coolant and will fill it up tomorrow but in the meantime...

I think that it is coming from the hose that connects right to the reservoir. I have wiped it clean a few times and it always seems to be seeping from that area under the hose where it connects to the bung. I replaced the OE hose clamp with a new one and put some electrical tape around the hose but it still leaks. It does make a slight hissing sound from the area as well when I pop the hood after a long ride, but only lets off a few drips. My guess is that I may have to replace that entire hose but that looks involved as it is attached to several others.

Before we all jump on head gasket, let me ask something. Correct me if I am wrong but there are three places in a 2002 Passat 1.8T where these could mix, head, oil cooler, and turbo, correct? The reason I ask is the cars performance has not been affected at all, still running perfect minus this problem.
Start the car, within 10 minutes you lose about a half quart to a quart of oil into the cooling system. Oh this is a family members car, not my own.
