Lexus GS 2013+ :: 2014 - At Cold Rough Shifting
I have 3,500 miles on my RWD '14 F Sport. I have been noticing since its been getting colder, that the transmission is jerky for about the first 5 miles of my morning drive. It's like that even if I let my car warm up for a minute, instead of just taking off right when I start it. It's a lot more hesitant to downshift one gear for an incline. And when it does, it's slow, sloppy and then clunks.

Owner of a 2014 350 fsport here.... 15,000 miles ... I noticed on cold starts a slightly rough idle since its gotten colder here recently. After starting the car it'll start fine and everything but then as its warming up the needle sometimes jumps 75-100 rpm. its like someone tapped their foot on the accelerator and let off. no lights or anything and the car runs fine.
Heres the catch... i have a joe z catback and joe z intake with fsport filter, could this possibly be why? because of the airflow ? i also have been using Lucas fuel injector cleaner and lubricant.
Also when i put the car in park after driving, i notice the needle isn't steady, it does move a little maybe 20-50rpm, not sure if this is normal or not because i never really paid attention until now.
Lexus IS 2014+ :: Floored The Car For About 2 To 3 Seconds On Cold Engine
Paranoid about my car. Basically what happened was after work I walked to my car and there were a bunch of guys who were meeting up in the parking lot and were complementing me on the car . I always let the car idle until RPM reaches 1,000 and I did that today and as I was driving off I decided to show off a little and I floored it . just for about 2-3 seconds. it was about 70 degrees out and the car was sitting in the sun so the engine shouldn't have been to cold
I know it is bad to floor a car on a cold engine, so my question is how bad could I have potentially damaged my engine? it was sitting for about 3 minutes and RPM idled out to 1 but the hot/cold bar hadn't risen yet. it was the first time I did it on a cold engine and I bought the car so I want to do whats right to keep it running smoothly.
Lexus GX 2010+ :: 2014 - Engine Knock When Cold
I finally made a recording (attached), I would suggest listening to it with headphones if possible. The noise I'm referring to is featured between the 0:28 and 1:00 marks. You can hear it again from about 1:10 to 1:25.
Just to recap:
2014 GX Premium pkg.
4400 miles
93 Octane always
The sequence of events is such:
1- Car is parked overnight in garage, air temperature is 60 degrees or less
2- Start car, pull out of garage
3- Put car in D
4- Drive to stop sign at end of street
5- The transmission downshifts and engine revs slightly as the car comes to a stop
6- After sitting at the stop for a few seconds, foot on brake, engine at idle, it starts to make that thumping/clunk noise
7- Noise stops once I start moving again, and does not come back once the engine is warmed up
Note: This happens whenever the temperature is 60 degrees or below and the engine is cold/car has been sitting overnight. All accessory systems were shut off for this recording/demonstration (no A/C or heat running, no radio or other accessories on).
Lexus IS 2014+ :: RX300 Misfiring And Running Rough
My 1999 lexus rx300 first threw a P1135 following a P0125, I tested the sensor and it was open at the heater circuit then then I was waiting the new part in the mail and during that time it kept running rough and then it threw a P0300, P0301, P0305, P0303. I was thinking that the PCM cannot monitor A/F ratio without the sensor so maybe the injector base pulse width was good enough. The misfire is are on bank 1, same as the bank 1 A/F sensor.

As winter comes in full force to NYC I've been experiencing some rough idle on my is350 AWD even after warming up my car for about 3-5 min. For ex. when I am at a stop light and have my foot depressed on the brake it feels as if the engine is revving higher than usual as if the acceleration pedal is lightly being depressed while I am braking. Is it just due to the cold weather?
View 11 RepliesLexus IS 2014+ :: Extremely Rough Ride In Normal Mode
The last few days I've noticed an extremely rough ride when in Normal Mode. In sport + mode I noticed a bit of a smoother ride where the bumps weren't as harsh. Which is the complete opposite of what's supposed to happen. My tire pressure is 36 and reaches 39-40 when hot. No clue why this is happening, should I be worried ? Should I lower the tire pressure a little maybe to much air is causing the harsh ride? Or should I reset the battery because my car is stuck in sport + mode when it should be normal.

Second time I've used it was today, already 93F today and pushing 100F tomorrow, summer started in Feb here. AC just feels like it's mildly cool, not cold and I've tried it using in cabin air and outside air on low and full blast and it doesn't get cold is this normal for Lexus? my Subaru got ice cold so this is kinda odd for Lexus I would think.
View 4 RepliesSierra :: 4.3L Running Rough When Cold - Engine Is Missing
We have been having issues with my son's 97 Sierra running rough when it is cold/damp. It feels like the engine is missing.
Today, which is warm and dry, it started running really bad and it was all he could do to limp it home. It seemed like it wanted to idle fine but when he tried to rev it up the tach would start jumping and it seemed like it was missing.
Could this be a bad cap/rotor? The engine has 200,000 miles and we've never changed the cap/rotor. I changed the plugs/wires probably 100,000 miles ago.
Golf V R32 :: Engine Rough Idle When Starting Cold
It levels off and idles fine after about 10-15 seconds but sometimes it idles so rough I think it's going to stall.
View 14 RepliesLexus GX 2010+ :: 2014 - Nasty Rattling Near Idle / When Cold
So this is the second winter I've had my GX (a 2014 purchased in Nov. 2013).
With radio and other accessories turned off, there is a rattling/grating sound that is quite pronounced at/near idle, especially when cold. Sounds like a rapid PRAPP-PRAPP-PRAPP. This occurs when the vehicle is in Drive, but stopped. Occurs most often at within the first 5 minutes of operation....i.e. leaving the house or office, driving to the end of the street, hearing it at a stoplight or stopsign.
I've posted videos/recordings of it previously, which I have also shown to the dealer. The dealer said they could sort of reproduce, but could not diagnose it. I have tried to crane myself outside of the GX to listen to it, but from outside nothing seems to be amiss.
At first I was worried that it was engine knock/the car eating itself, but if that noise was representative of that, I think the car would be blowing smoke or dead by now. I have not noticed smoke, adverse effect on fuel economy or the noise at speed/under load, as you would expect if the engine were truly knocking. So I'm thinking it may be a fan, some type of underhood accessory, etc. that is the culprit. Sounds almost like a plastic component (fan, pulley, etc.) could be off kilter?? Something that more or less goes away after the engine has fully warmed up and the car has been driven for 10 mins or so.
Lumina :: 1990 3.1 L Engine Misfire When Cold - Running Rough
I have a 1990 3.1L, multiport fuel injection (NOT sequential FI), which runs very well most of the time. However, when I cold start it runs rough (misfire) for about 1 minute (no throttle) or until acclerated. The is no misfire when running normal, but it might be running a little rough when stopped at a traffic light (in Drive, foot on brake).
I put new plugs and wires on, but it did not affect this problem.
I am not using coolant, or oil, the plugs that were removed were somewhat worn, enough that I expected to notice a difference after they were changed.
I have not yet (1) cleaned the MAF, (2) checked carefully for vacuum leaks, (3) checked for leaking injectors.
Since this is a 1990, OBDI, I can't say which cylinder is misfiring or how the fuel trims look etc.
Golf/GTI VI :: 2009 GLI - Running Rough / Engine Seems To Chug A Little When It Was Cold
About a week ago I purchased a new K&N air filter for my '09 GLI (6spd stick & all factory options with 55,000k on the odometer). Outwardly the vehicle seemed to run better (although a new clean air filter of any type will make a vehicle run better) however, 2 days later I noticed that the engine seems to chug a little when it was cold. Not missing like a plug wire off but a chug where it surges forward then holds back continually until the engine warms up. This persists today. I've also noticed a little bit of a rough idle. I've re-inspected my installation and nothing seems to have come loose and the filter fits perfectly.
View 9 RepliesLexus IS 2014+ :: Vibration / Rattle Or Buzzing Noise On Overpasses And Rough Roads
So I've been hearing this vibration rattle or buzzing noise... on rough roads and overpasses in southern California. I've uploaded a video clip. At 4 seconds I enter the overpass... and you can hear the buzzing noise from 6 seconds to 9 seconds, you might need to raise the volume.
Is this a normal noise from overpasses? My old cars didn't do this. Also I can't tell where it's coming from, maybe the rear upper area or who knows, could be the license plate for all I know.

Lexus IS 2014+ :: Cold Weather - Rear Tires Keep Loosing Pressure
I am aware that cold weather will decrease your tire pressure, but what is throwing me off is how quickly my rear tires seems to be losing pressure?
I park outside overnight, and it gets down to about 25 degrees F here at night. My front tires I run at about 38-40 PSI, and I JUST filled the rears up on Saturday to the same. I start my car this morning and both my rear tires are sitting at 30 PSI. This has happened ever since the dealer took my my wheels to refinish the rims about a month ago. Is there something they could have done that would be causing this? The can't think of a reason as to why the front tires are fine and the rear keep loosing pressure.
Lexus IS 2014+ :: Steering Wheel Whine Upon Turning During Cold Start
So recently, my car started making whining noises upon turning the steering wheel during cold starts. Now, it does it when the car is warmed up too. From what I can hear, its only during slow speeds. Can't take my car to the dealership anymore cause they will charge me $140 diagnostic fee for whatever issues I'm having due to my car being "tampered" with previously. (It's all stock now).
View 4 RepliesSubaru - Forester :: Rough Engine - Power Is Low / Surges And Misfires When Cold
We're talking about a 2002 Subaru Forester with only 80,000 miles on it.
This winter, the cold seems to have taken its toll. The fuel economy is bouncing around between 16 and 24 MPG and the car runs a bit roughly. Especially when it's colder (<30 F) there is often a lack of power/RPM when depressing the gas pedal. The problem is worst in city driving, but exists on the highway also. It doesn't go away during my 15-20 minute commute. For a period of a couple weeks, it was even easy to induce misfires (I think that's what they were; quiet pffft pffft pffft sounds during severe lack of power) by fully depressing the gas. But even if you half-depress and hold the pedal steady, the car will accelerate weakly and then sometimes surge forward. Other times it seems to be idling strong and running rich. Now that it's warmer (>40 F) the problem has lessened, but I've also started feeding it 93 octane gas and the car feels rougher than normal.
A year or two ago, I replaced the front oxygen sensor and spark plugs (prior to problem). This winter, I took it to a mechanic who couldn't explain the problem and replaced the spark plug wires.
Based on my reading, it seems like the only other most likely culprit is the manifold air pressure (MAP) sensor that's mounted on the intake manifold. I haven't worked up the effort (and can't find my multimeter) to do an electrical test of the MAP sensor's output itself. I'm also not keen on just buying a $270 part without sound evidence, nor paying for ill-informed guessing by lesser mechanics (than yourselves, of course!). I also have a sneaking suspicion that the automatic transmission could be slipping -- when I drive with 2 adults and two kids in the car up a hill, it seems more underpowered than days of old.
Camry :: 1995 V6 - Rough Idle / Engine Lope When Started Cold
We have owned a 95 Camry V6 for 20 years and it has always been reliable. However, several days ago, the car started to have its first engine performance issue. When we start the engine cold, there was rough idle/engine lope. If it was warmed up for about 5-10 minutes, the car was fine for the entire day. but during this rough idle, the car jerked slightly as well if i press on the gas.
Since the symptom began, I took it to local shop A and they replaced all the spark plugs, pcv valve and air filter which did not solve the rough idle/looping problem. The rough idle continued, and few days later, I was unable to start the engine though it cranks. (at least that's what I think it does). Had it towed to shop B and they've replaced oil pump, which they thought to be the problem. I took it home, and the next morning I found myself unable to start the car.
