Lexus GX 2004-09 :: Whining / Humming Sound While Moving And Not In Neutral With Engine Rev

2007 GX470 - Just noticed a distinct whining/humming sound similar to tire hum you would have with aggressive off-road tread tires. Seems to come alive around 20mph (or at least that's when I can hear it) and gets louder with the increase in speed. As I slow the sound goes away. Only does it while moving and not in neutral with engine rev.

We bought the car at 59k and it just hit 70k . Only oil changes, tire rotation have been done since we bought it. The tires were new when purchased so they have about 10k on them. No noise when we first got the car so I tend to think it's not related to the tread.

I was planning to do the front/read diff and transfer case drain/fill. Wondering if that may be the cause.

Something else - at low speed in tight turn (i.e. backing out of garage, pulling into parking spots) I do feel some roughness - almost like the differential is locked. Not sure if that is an indication. Was thinking it may be a wheel bearing but there is no clunking when turning.

Lexus ES 2013+ :: Humming Sound At The Back Of Car

2013 ES350 silver for my wife - bought 3 months ago and drove 600 miles.

About one month ago, I could hear a humming sound at the back of the car (somewhere around backseat or in the trunk). At that time, car was parked in the garage. This sound is similar to having several honey bee in that area and humming at the same time. The sound disappeared by itself after several hours.

Yesterday, it happened again. We parked the car in the garage around 4pm and did not hear this sound at that time. At around 10pm, when I went to garage to get some tools, I heard this humming sound again. This morning, as soon as I woke up, I checked the car and the sound is gone.

I am not sure if there are any other reports of similar issue for 2013 ES350, or maybe this issue is just for my particular car? And this humming sound is not always there, so I am not sure how to repeat it in the repair department. Maybe I need to bring it to delaership and just let service technician take a look.

Lexus ES 2013+ :: Humming Sound From Rear Under Carriage

My ES350 is always parked in my garage. One afternoon, I went into the garage to get something and I heard a humming sound coming from the car. It was very hard to identify where it was coming from. It sounded like a low horsepower compressor of some sort. I put my ear next to the rear wheel on the drivers side as this was the area the noise appeared to be coming from.

This is the second time I've experienced this happening. A couple things to note:

1. The car had not been operational for at least 8 hours.
2. There was no indicator lights on the dashboard flashing.
3. All doors were closed.
4. It seems to happen intermittently and I can't replicate on my own.

Lexus RX 2010-15 :: Humming / Groaning Sound From Engine

Finally got the Tech to acknowledge the Humming/Groaning from the Engine as I sat behind the wheel at my 5000 mile service visit. His response was that the sound we were hearing ( at start-up) was "NORMAL"

The RX drives and sounds fine after that mileage, but many times my destination is less, and I feel like I am driving a reject. This has persisted since new, @ frigid and high temps; as we approach 7500 miles.

Engine sound varies in pitch when acceleration increases the RPM's ?

Prius (2004-09) :: Humming Sound When Car Is Coasting With Gas Engine Off

My 2008 Prius had a front quarter panel replaced after my wife back in to a fire hydrant. The body work looks fine , no issue there, but now when the car is coasting with the gas engine off you can hear a humming sound that was not there before the repair. Also it does,nt seem to be recharging the hybrid battery at the same rate.My thought is maybe the body shop caused some damage to MG1 by spinning the front tires on a emision testing machine or rollers.Does special precautions would have to be used when testing wheel clearances after a quarter panel replacement on a hybrid? Would a body shop need to do this ?

Prius (2004-09) :: Humming Sound Occur When AC Turns On Or Speed Changes

When my AC turns on or changes speed - a humming sound occurs. It only lasts for about 1 - 2 seconds.

Is this normal

It sounds similar (higher pitched, but not as loud) to the humming you hear when you turn the vehicle off.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Humming / Rubbing Sound When Turning Right

I have a 2004 F-150 STX 2WD with a 2.5" leveling kit on it. I recently have noticed a rubbing sound that can be felt in the steering wheel and gas pedal the instant you turn right. I just replaced both hub assemblies and I just really don't know what it could be. It doesn't happen when you turn left or go straight and there should be no reason as to why my tires rub, because they haven't before. I got my truck aligned and they checked my joints and everything and said that it was fine....

Prius (2004-09) :: Continuous Whirling Or Humming Sound When Engine Starts - Possible Bad Transmission?

My wife's 2006 Prius is having some problems. The car has 187,000 miles on it. When the engine starts it makes a continuous whirling or humming sound. WHen I try to drive it has minimal power and can not be driven above 15-20 mph on my street. I bought an inexpensive Actron code reader and got the following codes. P0A92 P0300 P0303 P0304 P3191. Does it sound like a definite transmission problem and those other codes are caused by the transmission problem.

Lexus GX 2004-09 :: RPMs Started Surging While Idle And High Pitch Humming Noise When Accelerating

My girlfriend has a 2008 with around 120k miles on it. It's been pretty flawless but yesterday the RPMs started surging while idle and made kind of a high pitch humming noise when accelerating.

Today on her way to work she said the radio was going in and out, the battery light lit up and then the rest of the dash lights came on, and the speedometer stopped working.

What could be the problem? Could it just be the battery?

Golf IV R32 :: Humming Sound Whenever Left Off The Gas?

Just to start off my tires are hankook ventus v4's

- 2 months ago I had my tires rotated front to rear for the first time since ive owned the car. (Previous owner had put new tires a little before i bought it) Pulling away I immidiately noticed a humming sound whenever i left off the gas. Sounded kind of like the tire was rubbing against the fender but nothing was. Went back and they said it was just the way the tires had worn.

- A couple days later I had the tires rotated BACK to the way they originally were and the noise was gone.

- OK, so a couple weeks ago i go to put two front tires and get a four wheel alignment. After this the noise started right up again. Went back and they said it was because the alignment had been so off that it had caused the rear tires to wear uneven.

- FINALLY, i went back and put two rear tires of the exact same type and guess what...the noise didnt go away...at all

So ive ruled out it being a noise from the tires as they are all brand new. The tire shop said that it could be the wheel bearings but ive always known for wheel bearings to make a deeper hum and this noise is only when i left off the gas and increases with speed, touch the gas and it goes away.

Alero :: 2003 - Loud Humming Sound At 40 MPH+?

Our car is a 2003 2.2L 4 Door. 132,000 miles.

About 3 days ago it started doing this thing where once we hit somewhere between 30-40 mph, it started making a low pitch humming sound. At 40 MPH+ it is very loud. To me it sounds like an airplane, I don't know how else to explain it. There is no shaking, though sometimes I can almost feel the vibration from the humming at my feet. My husband says that the higher the RPM's, the louder and slightly higher pitched the sound is. If we go below 30 MPH it stops.

We were a little late on our oil change and I assumed that was it, but got it changed today and it's still doing it. Other than that, about 2 and a half weeks ago, our rear driver side tire went flat. My husband was in the middle of no where on the way home from work so he used Slime and that fixed it (never went to get it repaired because we didn't have the time and it didn't go flat again).

Could it be that the tires are not balanced correctly because of that, and it is causing the humming?

Also, this may be completely unrelated but: The only other problem we have had/still have with the car is that about 2 years ago we drove from Texas to Nevada, and at one of our stops the coolant dumped out (did not overheat/no other issues). Took it to 2 different shops and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Drove fine until 6 months ago driving from Nevada to New Mexico, it did it again, but this time it also overheated. The mechanic said it was the water pump. Replacing the water pump (which is expensive!) did not fix it, so without consulting us they also changed the thermostat. Charged us for both, told us it was fixed, and about 2 month ago it did it again, but did not overheat/no other issues again. Hasn't done it since...seems it only happens on long drives. Anyway, I don't think it's related, but I thought I'd mention it.

Camry :: 2006 - Humming Sound When Put The Car Into Gear

I have an 06 4-cylinder Camry LE. I recently had the belt tensioner, idler bearing, and water pump replaced under warranty. I originally went in to have it looked at because it was making a rattling/humming sound when I put it into gear, but would go away for the most part after running down the road for awhile. The other day, I had to back up to the house (on an incline) and it started making that same noise, but louder. For the most part, it goes away after driving, but I can still feel that humming vibration in the gas pedal however. I took it into the dealer and had them inspect it again. I was told that it is nothing to be concerned about. The computer was checked and came back clean. It was stated in my invoice as the following:

"Due to prolonged disconnect of the battery during previous repair. The engine needs to relearn all it's preset values. This condition is not a problem."

I have stumbled across others stating a possible valve issue, along with "you need to replace the water pump," which I already did.

Golf IV R32 :: Loud Humming Sound In Trunk

I am hearing this buzzing sound in my trunk its really loud for ex: those annoying sounds people played as kids that people over "18" cant hear...back to the point its by my rear left tail light inside that area where all the wiring is also kinda hear it where the spare tire is all my lights work I unplugged the light and it still made the sound! It only does it when the car is running. Car is stock aside that it has no radio and the cd changer in the area that noise is coming from idk if its because a few wires that connect to the cd changer or what ever it is are unplugged but its coming from that area of the car its really high pitch and annoying.

Subaru - Outback :: Loud Low Humming Sound

This is a question about a Subaru Outback, but probably pertains to many other cars as well. I have a 2006 Subaru Outback with 112K miles. I bought new tires for it in May 2012, and in September 2013 I started to notice a low humming/buzzing sound while driving. I looked online and came up with 2 options - either the wheel bearings or the tires. Because the sound changed pitch depending on the road surface, I thought it must be the tires. I took it in for an oil change and had the mechanics check the bearings. They said the bearings were fine, but the tires were cupping and feathering badly because I hadn't rotated them, and that was the source of the noise.

I had them rotate the tires and do an alignment and went on my way. The sound slowly got worse - it peaks at ~65 MPH and then changes pitch above 70 MPH and is not so bothersome - and I started to lose gas mileage ( 4-5 MPG). On Dec. 30, 2013 I took it in for the next oil change and bought brand new tires - Bridgestone Turanza Serenity designed for quietness - and had them do an alignment, and drove away only to find that the noise is still there and I still have lousy gas mileage.

My next thoughts were the transmission or the catalytic converter, but since the noise doesn't change when I take my foot off the gas or put it in neutral I don't think it is either one of those. The alignment showed that the Caster on both front tires is off, but since both tires are off by roughly equal amounts I was told that this is not something to worry about. I do occasionally notice some vibration while driving or while idling, but it is intermittent and I don't think it has anything to do with the noise.

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Humming Sound At Front End When Fan Is On

I've noticed that when I have the fan on...A/C on or off...there is a humming noise coming from the front of the car at approximately 900RPM - 1100RPM... At first I thought it was the A/C compressor but there's a sound even without the A/C on... the sound is like a motor running, low pitch sound...it is very noticeable when you are driving at very low speeds like when you drive around a parking lot looking for a spot... it is also noticeable when you are coasting to a red light or stop sign and the RPM's hit about 1000... not sure if it's the fan making the noise because it doesn't have enough lubrication or something of a bigger problem...
