Lexus RX 2004-09 :: RX400h Transmission / Engine Make Low Groaning Sound And Very Rough
Between about 20-30mph, on light throttle the engine/transmission of my 2006 RX400h makes a low groaning sound, sending a vibration through to the cabin. The engine just seems to be very rough at this speeds, like the engine is labouring. After exactly 30mph, everything is very smooth. It is also very smooth when running in EV mode at any speed.
The harshness/vibration only comes on when accelerating, so have ruled out tyres etc. The mileage is 85,000, and it has had a recent major service at a Lexus dealer. I use premium fuel.
The Lexus dealer had a look at the car for 1 hour and inspected the exhaust, engine mountings etc. but could find no faults. I went on a test drive with the service technician and he did notice the vibration.

2007 GX470 - Just noticed a distinct whining/humming sound similar to tire hum you would have with aggressive off-road tread tires. Seems to come alive around 20mph (or at least that's when I can hear it) and gets louder with the increase in speed. As I slow the sound goes away. Only does it while moving and not in neutral with engine rev.
We bought the car at 59k and it just hit 70k . Only oil changes, tire rotation have been done since we bought it. The tires were new when purchased so they have about 10k on them. No noise when we first got the car so I tend to think it's not related to the tread.
I was planning to do the front/read diff and transfer case drain/fill. Wondering if that may be the cause.
Something else - at low speed in tight turn (i.e. backing out of garage, pulling into parking spots) I do feel some roughness - almost like the differential is locked. Not sure if that is an indication. Was thinking it may be a wheel bearing but there is no clunking when turning.
Lexus RX 2010-15 :: RX350 Making Humming Noise While In The Garage With Engine Off
We have a 2010 RX350. It makes a noise at a strange time. While in the garage with the engine off sometimes it makes a humming noise. The noise can last up to five minutes. It sounds like it could be coming from the back but not positive. The car has not been operated for several hours when the noise occurs. If I start the engine and immediately cut it off the noise goes away. I know that it will never do this if I take it to the Lexus dealership.

One year ago, after driving 8 or so hrs., at 108,000 mi, my 2003 Buick Rendevous started making a groaning sound which would last 15-30 seconds. When exiting the turnpike, the sound lasted nearly 1 min. The next day, the Buick dealer could find no cause but put a new serpentine belt on it which solved the problem for a few months. (I had previously replaced the serpentine belt at 96,000 mi as routine maintenance.) After a couple months, I heard the sound again and took it to my local Buick dealer who could find nothing. It was o.k. for about 6 mo. Now it groans again. My local mechanic heard it but could find no cause. It groaned almost constantly a couple days ago while I was driving in slow traffic w/the a/c on but quit when I turned the a/c off. It sometimes groans with the a/c off, especially on a turn from a stop sign. I now have 114,000 mi. The sound seems to be originating from the engine.

My front axle is making a groaning like humming noise when the truck is cold and first starting to drive it. It does it when speeds are at 30 mph and under and goes away when putting it in 4WD. It sounds like the hubs but I'm not sure. The dealer hasn't been able to duplicate it because they haven't kept it overnight. I'm just wondering if this happen to the truck, was it fixed and what was the issue. Like I said, I think it may be a vacuum issue to the hubs, but not sure.

2001 f150 xl with 151800 miles 5.4l had it for a few years now I get a humming type groaning coming from up front. only when in 4x4 and only at lets say 25 mph to 45 mph .seems to be worse when slowing down especially the slower you get then around 20 or 25 its gone. it is still quite noticeable on acceleration and after 45 its gone. Truck has always been a little noise while in 4x4 weather it was an issue that had already started or if that's how it is. This is my first 4x4 truck.

I hear this humming sound when hit 70mph and I am on the gas. However it lasts till 73mph or so and go away!. Below is the pattern I observed;
1. On gas (accelerating), when hit 70mph (not even 69 mph) I start hearing humming sound. It will last till 73mph and goes away. Not able to pin point the source. I feel it is originating somewhere closer to transmission shift.
2. Decelerate from above 73mph and no gas given, when hit 70 I don't hear the sound. Press the gas pedal, I hear.
3. Set the cruise at 70, I hear.
4. The hmmmm sound appears only between 70-73 mph speed and while on gas.
What is this sound?. What is the source?
Prius (2010-12) :: Low Level Humming Sound At Idle
2010, purchased new, 89k. Never a hint of a problem. Last few days, I've notice a low level humming sound at idle. Probably there at speed and swamped by road noise. No change in performance. Temps in the 85 t0 90 range, with AC always at Auto, and at 72.

2013 ES350 silver for my wife - bought 3 months ago and drove 600 miles.
About one month ago, I could hear a humming sound at the back of the car (somewhere around backseat or in the trunk). At that time, car was parked in the garage. This sound is similar to having several honey bee in that area and humming at the same time. The sound disappeared by itself after several hours.
Yesterday, it happened again. We parked the car in the garage around 4pm and did not hear this sound at that time. At around 10pm, when I went to garage to get some tools, I heard this humming sound again. This morning, as soon as I woke up, I checked the car and the sound is gone.
I am not sure if there are any other reports of similar issue for 2013 ES350, or maybe this issue is just for my particular car? And this humming sound is not always there, so I am not sure how to repeat it in the repair department. Maybe I need to bring it to delaership and just let service technician take a look.
Chevrolet - Cobalt :: 2010 - Humming Sound At Higher Speeds
I've got a noise I'm trying to diagnose on our 2010 Cobalt. Thought I'd ask about it here before heading to a mechanic.
When I hit about 35 mph I start to hear a hum sound that we've never heard before (my wife says she can here it at slower speeds, but I can't). The sound gets higher in pitch as the car speed increases. The RPMs don't affect it (i.e. when the car shifts gears, no change in the sound).
If I shift into neutral and take my foot off the gas, the sound doesn't change (except dropping in pitch as I slow down).Seems to be tied entirely to the speed of the car, not related to RPMs, throttle, etc.
Lexus ES 2013+ :: Humming Sound From Rear Under Carriage
My ES350 is always parked in my garage. One afternoon, I went into the garage to get something and I heard a humming sound coming from the car. It was very hard to identify where it was coming from. It sounded like a low horsepower compressor of some sort. I put my ear next to the rear wheel on the drivers side as this was the area the noise appeared to be coming from.
This is the second time I've experienced this happening. A couple things to note:
1. The car had not been operational for at least 8 hours.
2. There was no indicator lights on the dashboard flashing.
3. All doors were closed.
4. It seems to happen intermittently and I can't replicate on my own.

My Prius IV with about 10K miles started to emit a high-pitched electrical humming sound under the hood when it was in Ready mode. It did not have this sound before. I opened the hood and found the sound was coming from somewhere around/under the engine area. I want to know if this is normal on Gen 3 Prius? I purchased my 2014 GX a couple of months ago and already logged in about 2K. The car has been great so far. The only thing that I'm not so used to, is a strange feeling when accelerating or going uphill (even slightly) - I can feel the engine roar(?) through the steering wheel - I can't really describe it well - it's not a vibration per se, but more like you feel the engine working harder than usual through the slight vibration of the steering wheel. This is my first V8 car - I used to have a V6 Acura MDX before, and never felt that. There is a good chance this is normal for a V8 based truck, but I wanted to get others' input.

Checked everything in the garage and kneel down near driver side /passenger door and could hear the humming coming from under the car. Checked to see if the radiator fan was running ..nope. My 2008 Prius had a front quarter panel replaced after my wife back in to a fire hydrant.The body work looks fine , no issue there, but now when the car is coasting with the gas engine off you can hear a humming sound that was not there before the repair.Also it does,nt seem to be recharging the hybrid battery at the same rate.My thought is maybe the body shop caused some damage to MG1 by spinning the front tires on a emision testing machine or rollers.Does special precautions would have to be used when testing wheel clearances after a quarter panel replacement on a hybrid? Would a body shop need to do this ?

I keep my 2015 RX 350 in the garage, and last night I noticed a humming or buzzing noise coming from it. I switched the ignition to accessory position and turned it off and the noise stopped. A search here turned up many discussions noting is is the gas evaporation leakage check valve and it is a normal function of the vehicle. My question, is this some sort of pump that is running and causing battery drain?
