Golf/GTI VI :: 2014 - Stock Clutch Chatter In Neutral At A Stop
I have 3.8k miles on my GTI, and recently started noticing this clutch chatter when my car is at a stop in neutral with the clutch engaged (pedal out). It goes away when the clutch is disengaged (pedal in). I'm not sure if the noise has always been there or not, but now that I hear it, it's really bothering me.
It doesn't affect driveability, and seems to disappear once the car gets moving. And it's usually not too bad, BUT sometimes the clutch engages in such a way that I get the rattle like in the second video. This is really the noise that makes me nervous. Does this sound like typical clutch chatter or do I possibly have a bad DMF and/or throw out bearing?
Car was taken to dealer today 3/7/14 and a new throw out bearing was ordered. I inquired about the possibility of it being a flywheel issue, and was told they wouldn't know that until they get into the transmission. So for now, car is schedule to have the throw out bearing replaced under warranty next week.
Golf/GTI VI :: Clutch Chatter / Knocking Noise All The Time
My car has a knocking icking noise all the time, I think it is clutch chatter, but not fully sure. This is a 6MT 2011 GTI. It is annoying, but if you turn the radio up.... The annoying sound goes away....
View 4 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Slight FW Chatter On Stock Clutch Setup
Getting a slight FW chatter on stock clutch setup (02M)? I've noticed it for a while...most of the time I don't notice it, but other times I will be sitting in the drive-through and it will chatter. Goes away when the clutch is depressed.
View 17 RepliesGolf VI R :: Chatter With AC On When Clutch Pedal Is Pushed In
Experienced a chatter in the clutch pedal with the a/c on when clutch pedal is pushed in. To me it feels like the throw bearing isn't disengaging the clutch fully, plus my clutch is kind of high once full disengage unless its normal.
View 5 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: 1999 - Chatter When Slipping The Clutch Into First And Sometimes Second Gear
My first VW was '99 Jetta that had 150xxx miles on the original clutch before it was stolen in '11. I leased a GTI shortly after, and decided to buy it out last year. At 35,000 miles I am starting to get I guess what I would describe as a chatter when slipping the clutch into first and sometimes second. Car is stock, never abused. I tried to reproduce this for a video clip but the problem is sporadic. Never had a clutch go on me so I don't know what to expect, but from what I've seen of people losing their stock clutches after ecu flashes is the car slipping under wot in top gear. I don't have that issue. No other symptoms. No stubborn shifts or anything, clutch still feels the same and rpm's have never flared up on shifts.

View 5 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: 2010 - Chatter Coming From Clutch / Tranny
I have a 2010 5-speed Golf 2.5L. Around 2 months ago after coming back from vacation, i noticed that when shift from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd, there is horrible chatter/vibration coming from i assume the clutch/tranny. its been getting progressively worse and its at a point where i can hear the spare change rattle in the cup holder. the car had been sitting for a month, and i sort of "broke it in again" when i got back from vacation, not revving over 3 on the first tank, not over 4 on the second. It does have 100k kms on it, solid mix of highway and city. Is this something easily fixable, i dont have a warranty so i'd have to go aftermarket. Not down to pay two arms and 3 legs for something that could put me back in this situation yet again. if its the clutch id just go aftermarket with something a lot better, or if its the tranny id put a 6 speed in it, really lacking on the highway i believe. Or maybe it's something else.
View 7 RepliesPassat (B6) :: Clutch Clatter / Chatter Noise Either In Reverse Or In First Gear
When I have the clutch depressed and start to let out as I'm either in reverse or in first gear it makes a clatter/chatter noise. It also occurs when I have the clutch depressed and just rev the engine and it's in neutral. Some days it's louder than others. It doesn't matter if the engine is cool or at normal temp.
View 7 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Clutch Chatter / Odd Grinding Noise When Turning Under Acceleration
My car is making an odd grinding noise when im turning under acceleration. I can only hear it at low speeds but it may be doing it at higher speeds and i just cant hear it.
The noise happens when I am turning both left and right and only when accelerating and seems to dissipate as I pick up speed or change from turning to going straight.
Car has 100k miles on it and don't think the clutch has been replaced.
Car is an all stock b5.5 wagon v6 30v 5 speed.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Clutch Chatter When Starting Off In First And Slippage In 5th Gear
I installed a new clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel at 154,000 and I'm now just over 155,000. I drove it very conservatively for at least 1,000 miles, and had no issues whatsoever.
Now, after sitting for a day, starting off in first gear, I'll get some clutch chatter. Outside of first starting out in 1st, every other gear is solid. And the 1st gear chatter tends to get better as the car is driven longer.
Secondly, it happened today, I'm getting what I thought I experienced before as clutch slippage in 5th gear: I'll lose acceleration as if the clutch is slipping, but the revs won't spike even if I tap the throttle. If I come off for a second and go back on, everything is fine. It doesn't make sense that's it's slipping as it's brand news.
It also seems to happen when it's been rainy or wet, but that could be all in my head.
Elantra GD (2013+) :: Slight Moaning Sound When Start Off From A Stop While Engaging The Clutch
When we first bought our white 2013 GT used (21K kms) it made a slight moaning sound when you would start off from a stop while engaging the clutch. Dealer was able to replicate and diagnosed it as a bad clutch release bearing. Replaced it and moaning sound was gone. Free under warranty. Been fine ever since and car is now at 75k kms.
I just drove our other GT (black 69k kms) for the first time in ages as normally another family member drives it. I immediately noticed the same moaning sound when starting from a stop and releasing the clutch. I'm betting it's the same bearing. Is this a common issue?

Mercedes-benz - M-class :: 2012 - Front End Groaning Noise When Coming To A Stop And When Pulling Away
OK, so this is a 2012 ML350 Blue-tech with around 31,000 miles on it. Lately when it is warm (either by driving for 30 minutes or more, or by outside temperature of 80 plus), it has been making the strangest front end groaning noise when coming to a stop and when pulling away. It sounds like the front end suspension is "groaning". It doesn't have to be a hard stop, gentle will do just fine. The car comes to a halt, the front end dips slightly - "groooaaan" (perhaps more on the rebound than the initial dip). You start up again, the front end unloads, and "groan".
Very disconcerting on a car as smart as this. Tom and Ray know this car - this is the one with the "smart radio" (switches channels at voice command…) The dealer is stumped. They have the car for the third time now and even though both a mechanic and the shop foreman have been shown the problem (taken for a test drive ), they have been unable to come up with either a diagnosis or a fix. They replaced the front sway bar links once to no avail.
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Slight Grinding Noise In Neutral - Clutch Went Out
I was driving down the street and i noticed i couldnt get it in first gear, almost like a wall blocking it. and then i put it into 2nd gear and i started rolling... i turned my car off and when i started it back up, it had a slight grinding noise (in neutral). i put it in first gear, took out the clutch and i wasnt going anywhere... same with 2nd gear...
so i towed my car to the shop, they said my clutch went out and i "lost first and REVERSE gear".... is that possible?!
Golf VI R :: Slight Gritty Feel Or Like Rubbing Against Sandpaper When Lift Up The Clutch
I have a Mk VII R manual transmission with only 500 miles on it, but I'm having an issue that I think some of you may have experienced. My clutch is perfectly smooth when idling or in neutral, but there is a slight "gritty" feel or like rubbing against sandpaper when I lift up the clutch, mostly in 1st or 2nd gear and just when I give it throttle and the car starts moving or when the clutch engages. I thought maybe I was crazy but I did a search and found multiple people with this same issue on the MK VI R's.

I've got 500 miles now, so I'm going to wait until 1000 to bring it to the dealer.

View 3 RepliesFord Transmission :: Clutch Chatter When Taking Off With The Wheels Turned - Diff Or Transfer Case?
My 2000 explorer has picked up a clutch chatter when taking off with the wheels turned. It is AWD, and has an 8.8" LS rear end with and 173k on the clock. Is there any good way to tell where the chatter is coming from? I know how to check the TC clutch, but it requires dropping one of the driveshafts.
I may try changing the rear diff lube, as I am sure it's never been done. They say "lube for life" but no fluid can last forever, I would think.
Also, on that note... a couple years ago I had a pinion seal leaking and the shop said it was 2 quarts low when they fixed it and said "rear diff damage has probably already occurred" on the ticket. While that is possible i suppose, would think i would have major problems right away as the diff only holds 2.5 qts (IIRC). Least wise, that was probably 50k miles ago when I had it fixed.
More than likely, the mechanic was an idiot and it was only .5 qts low, as i'm 99% sure that they left the pinion nut loose when he did the job. (had a terrible vibration that mysteriously went away when i brought it back for them to find out what is going on .. they said they didn't do anything, but it was fixed when i got it back ... they don't get my business anymore)
Anyway ... would i be able to feel that clutch chatter with one rear wheel in the air and the trans in neutral? Assuming the worst case scenario, and the TC clutch is going out, how big of a deal is it? Can i get another 20K-30K out of it before it gives up the ghost?
Rodeo :: 1999 LS V6 3.2L - Brake Chatter Occasionally At A Stop
1999 Rodeo LS V6 3.2L MT 277,000 miles. Over the past few months, I've been experiencing brake "chatter" occasionally at a stop.
It seems to happen mostly on hot days, and within the first few miles of driving, but I haven't recorded that data in any detail. It's right when I'm getting to a complete stop. It's a chatter that shakes the car when applying the brakes.
I thought at first that it seemed to be coming from the rear, but sometimes it feels like it may be at the front, or maybe it's happening at both.
I pulled the rear shoes and front pads to check the pads, shoes, rotors, and drums but found nothing. I did have a frozen bolt (pin) on one of the front brake calipers, but I fixed that and it still happens, but only occasionally. Some days it doesn't happen at all, and on other days it happens a few times.
The stuck caliper pin wasn't binding the caliper, I just couldn't get the pin out, but soaking the threads in liquid wrench, tapping it, and applying a little leverage freed it up. Before that I could easily spin the disc by hand.
It has never happened in the morning, but seems to happen mostly around mid day and early evening and mostly when the day has been especially hot, which seems strange, but that's how it's been.
It isn't the same feeling as the ABS being applied in a high speed slippery situation, but it is kind of at that frequency.
It feels like the pads or shoes are chattering on the braking surface, but neither of the pads, shoes, rotors, or drums show any signs.
If maybe this is a typical symptom of a master cylinder going out? That is a central common point for all brakes. It's a 1999 with 277K miles on it and the master cylinder is original, so.....
Golf/GTI VI :: Slight Shudder When Braking And Coming To A Gentle Stop
Picked up my MK6 GTI DSG last Saturday. I have noticed a slight shudder when braking and coming to a gentle stop. At first I thought it may be the brakes bedding in so I kept it over the weekend. By today there's still no change. Is it normal for DSG transmission stop like this? Because I have never driven DSG transmission.
