Golf/GTI VI :: 2010 - Chatter Coming From Clutch / Tranny

I have a 2010 5-speed Golf 2.5L. Around 2 months ago after coming back from vacation, i noticed that when shift from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd, there is horrible chatter/vibration coming from i assume the clutch/tranny. its been getting progressively worse and its at a point where i can hear the spare change rattle in the cup holder. the car had been sitting for a month, and i sort of "broke it in again" when i got back from vacation, not revving over 3 on the first tank, not over 4 on the second. It does have 100k kms on it, solid mix of highway and city. Is this something easily fixable, i dont have a warranty so i'd have to go aftermarket. Not down to pay two arms and 3 legs for something that could put me back in this situation yet again. if its the clutch id just go aftermarket with something a lot better, or if its the tranny id put a 6 speed in it, really lacking on the highway i believe. Or maybe it's something else.

Golf VI R :: Clutch Slippage / Failing Flywheel

I have a stage 1+ tune, fuel pump, and intake. I ran into some clutch slippage and I decided to purchase an aftermarket clutch that was designed to mate with the OEM dual mass flywheel. I went this route because I had a single mass on my GTI and it was loud. I figured this would be a good solution to avoid the noise and be able to hold the added torque.

I broke it in as the instructions stated. After break in I gave it some throttle and I notice that there is severe slipping occurring. I have the clutch and flywheel pulled back out and sent back to the clutch manufacturer (they requested to see the flywheel despite it being the OEM one). The manufacturer states that the clutch is fine but the OEM flywheel is failing. They refurbish the clutch and ship it back to me with the flywheel. I take the flywheel to the dealer and explain that I suspect the flywheel is failing and divulge that I have some light modifications. The dealer shows me paperwork that they had behind the counter that says that any transmission issues on cars A, B, C, and D require an immediate contact to their VW rep and an opening of some type of file on the failure (forget what they called it). What's on the top of the list? The Golf R of course. They go on to tell me that they need the car to start this process and they will do nothing with the removed flywheel that I brought to them.

So at this point, my car is in pieces at the shop that I use and I've been without it for going on a month. I will also, obviously, end up having to pay double the labor for the install. I am also going to be out some more money to come up with a viable solution as I still don't have a functional flywheel. So what do I do?

I could purchase another OEM flywheel for about $800. My concern here is the OEM flywheel busting up again and being in exactly the same spot that I am in now. I could purchase a new aftermarket clutch and flywheel combo and scrap the hope of avoiding the noise and sell the refurbished clutch I have to try to recoup some of the losses. Not sure what other options I have, if any.

Needless to say, I am feeling pretty unhappy about this whole thing. I've landed in a place where I am going to end up shelling out twice as much cash as I should have to get a clutch in my car. Burning a couple of grand to get absolutely no benefit stings more than a little.

Golf IV R32 :: Noise Is Coming From Clutch Flywheel Area

I did replace one of this days the rear main seal in my r32, and reinstall the clutch like i normally do, and right after i start the car I notice this horrible noise, scare the hell of me cuz i thought i did not had oil in the car for a moment, but i did never drain it, so I ran to get my stetoscope and the noise is coming from the clutch flywheel area, so i did remove everything apart and reinstall it, resurface the flywheel got another clutch and pressure plate, and nothing the noise is still there, do this noise sound familiar to u?

Timing chains? engine is new, and when I mean new I mean only 175 miles, got it from the dealer.. Main bearings? Clutch? only 100 miles got it new about 3 months ago. I already check all the pulleys and none make any kind of noise, [URL] ....

Golf VI R :: Chatter With AC On When Clutch Pedal Is Pushed In

Experienced a chatter in the clutch pedal with the a/c on when clutch pedal is pushed in. To me it feels like the throw bearing isn't disengaging the clutch fully, plus my clutch is kind of high once full disengage unless its normal.

Golf/GTI VI :: 1999 - Chatter When Slipping The Clutch Into First And Sometimes Second Gear

My first VW was '99 Jetta that had 150xxx miles on the original clutch before it was stolen in '11. I leased a GTI shortly after, and decided to buy it out last year. At 35,000 miles I am starting to get I guess what I would describe as a chatter when slipping the clutch into first and sometimes second. Car is stock, never abused. I tried to reproduce this for a video clip but the problem is sporadic. Never had a clutch go on me so I don't know what to expect, but from what I've seen of people losing their stock clutches after ecu flashes is the car slipping under wot in top gear. I don't have that issue. No other symptoms. No stubborn shifts or anything, clutch still feels the same and rpm's have never flared up on shifts.

Golf/GTI VI :: Clutch Chatter / Knocking Noise All The Time

Golf/GTI VI :: 2014 - Stock Clutch Chatter In Neutral At A Stop

I have 3.8k miles on my GTI, and recently started noticing this clutch chatter when my car is at a stop in neutral with the clutch engaged (pedal out). It goes away when the clutch is disengaged (pedal in). I'm not sure if the noise has always been there or not, but now that I hear it, it's really bothering me.

It doesn't affect driveability, and seems to disappear once the car gets moving. And it's usually not too bad, BUT sometimes the clutch engages in such a way that I get the rattle like in the second video. This is really the noise that makes me nervous. Does this sound like typical clutch chatter or do I possibly have a bad DMF and/or throw out bearing?

Car was taken to dealer today 3/7/14 and a new throw out bearing was ordered. I inquired about the possibility of it being a flywheel issue, and was told they wouldn't know that until they get into the transmission. So for now, car is schedule to have the throw out bearing replaced under warranty next week.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Clutch Chatter When Starting Off In First And Slippage In 5th Gear

I installed a new clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel at 154,000 and I'm now just over 155,000. I drove it very conservatively for at least 1,000 miles, and had no issues whatsoever.

Now, after sitting for a day, starting off in first gear, I'll get some clutch chatter. Outside of first starting out in 1st, every other gear is solid. And the 1st gear chatter tends to get better as the car is driven longer.

Secondly, it happened today, I'm getting what I thought I experienced before as clutch slippage in 5th gear: I'll lose acceleration as if the clutch is slipping, but the revs won't spike even if I tap the throttle. If I come off for a second and go back on, everything is fine. It doesn't make sense that's it's slipping as it's brand news.

It also seems to happen when it's been rainy or wet, but that could be all in my head.

Golf VI R :: OEM Clutch - Slight Chatter Noise When Pulling Away Casually In 1st From A Stop

When pulling away casually in 1st from a stop, I hear a slight chatter noise. Had this since before the tune (stage 1). Almost like the sound a diesel makes at idle but only lasts a second or two. To the best of my knowledge it is an OEM clutch. Had 9k miles when I bought it, now has 25k.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Clutch Feeling Softer After Tranny Change

So long story short, last week I destroyed my first gear in the tranny. This weekend I did the complete swap and put a used o2j in. 5 speed. 2.0 motor.

Right after the swap, on the first startup I noticed the clutch felt softer. The grip is also a little less than it used to be.

Right before my transmission blew I upgraded from 15" alloys to 17" longbeaches with spacers all around- much heavier. It happened on my first drive with the new rims so I didn't get to feel the car much.

I reused my current slave cylinder. Did not disconnect it from the line while swapping. I did however notice my slave boot had a small little dent in it (super small) but no tears or anything. Also, reinstalling it i pushed it in and compressed the boot and secured it with the bolts - I hope I did this right.

I redid my rear brakes about a month ago, did not disconnect brake lines or bleed the system.

I have already driven about 50km on the new tranny. Today I am getting the tranny service (flush) done because I didn't have the sockets to check it after install. I'm going to ask the mechanic if he might know anything. The brakes also feel a touch less but I'm not sure if this is cause of the 17" wheels.. does the system just need to be bled?

All gears go in smooth - clutch in.
All gears go in smooth with car off.
No grinding of gears when switching or driving.
No reverse grind.
No slipping in any gears.

Just a soft pedal and feels like softer bite. I did the tranny swap in a rush, did not replace fork, TOB or anything. They should all be fine, I'm thinking it's just air but need confirmation. I just want this car to last another year or so..

Passat (B6) :: Clutch Clatter / Chatter Noise Either In Reverse Or In First Gear

When I have the clutch depressed and start to let out as I'm either in reverse or in first gear it makes a clatter/chatter noise. It also occurs when I have the clutch depressed and just rev the engine and it's in neutral. Some days it's louder than others. It doesn't matter if the engine is cool or at normal temp.

Passat (B5) :: Clutch Chatter / Odd Grinding Noise When Turning Under Acceleration

My car is making an odd grinding noise when im turning under acceleration. I can only hear it at low speeds but it may be doing it at higher speeds and i just cant hear it.

The noise happens when I am turning both left and right and only when accelerating and seems to dissipate as I pick up speed or change from turning to going straight.

Car has 100k miles on it and don't think the clutch has been replaced.

Car is an all stock b5.5 wagon v6 30v 5 speed.

Ford Transmission :: Clutch Chatter When Taking Off With The Wheels Turned - Diff Or Transfer Case?

My 2000 explorer has picked up a clutch chatter when taking off with the wheels turned. It is AWD, and has an 8.8" LS rear end with and 173k on the clock. Is there any good way to tell where the chatter is coming from? I know how to check the TC clutch, but it requires dropping one of the driveshafts.

I may try changing the rear diff lube, as I am sure it's never been done. They say "lube for life" but no fluid can last forever, I would think.

Also, on that note... a couple years ago I had a pinion seal leaking and the shop said it was 2 quarts low when they fixed it and said "rear diff damage has probably already occurred" on the ticket. While that is possible i suppose, would think i would have major problems right away as the diff only holds 2.5 qts (IIRC). Least wise, that was probably 50k miles ago when I had it fixed.

More than likely, the mechanic was an idiot and it was only .5 qts low, as i'm 99% sure that they left the pinion nut loose when he did the job. (had a terrible vibration that mysteriously went away when i brought it back for them to find out what is going on .. they said they didn't do anything, but it was fixed when i got it back ... they don't get my business anymore)

Anyway ... would i be able to feel that clutch chatter with one rear wheel in the air and the trans in neutral? Assuming the worst case scenario, and the TC clutch is going out, how big of a deal is it? Can i get another 20K-30K out of it before it gives up the ghost?

Golf IV R32 :: Light Metallic Noise Coming From The Lower End - Bad Flywheel?

Well, I have had this R since march and all was good until I started to hear some light metallic noise coming from lower end within a day or so seemed to go away and then it came back but more pronounced and more like chatter (marbles inc a can noise) at idle... anyways long story short decided to pull the tranny and see what the deal was.

Found the FW loose all 10 bolts about 1 - 1.5 turns out but at this point decided to remove to make sure nothing else was the problem.... Backside of DMF. found this spacer/sheild that is staked to the backside of FW that sits against the block all shredded.. Now to my question like I said the car was running fine ..so do I need this or can I slap this thing back together w/o this shield or is it really necessary.... cant swing the money right now for a whole new DMF / clutch kit
