Golf V R32 :: Loud Brake Squeal - Thumping Noise Up Front Above 80mph
@ 45k miles.
1) Loud brake squeal left front on very light pressure. Pads have 75% left.
2) Vibrating/thumping noise up front above 80mph. Does not sound mechanical and not felt through the wheel at all. Seems like a loose piece of trim flapping. Wheel well liners and plastic pan under car seem tight. And no, driving under 80 is not an option.
VAG quality FTW!
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2003 - Oil Light Blinking In Cold Temps
So my oil light was blinking on 03 jetta 1.8t for a week or so because of the cold temps where i am once my car reaches temp if you turn off the car and turn it back on my light stays off. i had a oil change recently hubby did that plus i had all my fluids checked and had to have my dipstick tube replaced because it broke.
I had a mechanic who lives in my complex take a look at the car and he said everything is running fine. So today I started my car then my oil light went on again it has been a lot colder than the past few days could that be the reason? My cars not overheating at all but once it gets to temp if you shut and turn the car back on the light goes away. My car only has 88 thousand miles on it and we used the proper oil for the oil change..
Passat (B5) :: High Pitch Squeal From Front Brakes Mostly When Cold Or Wet
2002 Passat wagon. I recently had my independent VW shop install new front and rear brake pads and rotors that I provided. The pads are PBR Axis Deluxe ceramic pads. Soon after, the front brakes started a high pitch squeal - mostly when cold or wet.
I took it back to the mechanic and he told me there is nothing he can do about it - I must have defective pads and that maybe they are covered under warranty, as they certainly need to be replaced, ...
This shocked me, especially the lack of customer service, but because I provided the pads I don't think I have much leverage with them other than not to do business with them again.
Is there any way to quiet a squeaking brake pad? Might the mechanic not done something he should have done to prevent squeaks?
Toyota - Tacoma :: Front Disc Brake Squeal - Loud Sound Like A Rock In A Caliper
I own an '05 Prerunner with 56k miles. Had the front pads replaced and turned the rotors last Spring.
Now, after sitting for awhile, as I back up the front brakes squeal. (Sounds like a rock in a caliper its so loud.)
Toyota has a TSB to fix this.
Golf/GTI VI :: Front Brakes Squeal When Braking At A Low Speed

When outside temps are cold (below 35 degrees) my 2002 camry 2.4L will missfire and run rough. It is very noticeable. After I drive it 10-20 miles and get it good and warm it comes out of it and is fine. It sets no codes or turns on any lights. It did this two winters ago and I finally read somewhere to replace the mass airflow sensor, so I did and it seemed to fix it. It did not act up last winter at all but this winter it started doing it again. So I replaced the mass airflow sensor again but it did not seem to make a difference.

I am having a crank and no start issue for a while now In Cold Temps -20 Celsius Or Colder... dealership checked fuses and relays they came back fine. there was an active CEL code for Low System Voltage would that have something to do with my problem here, and what else could be the problem? this has happened in the past after short 2 min drive and go in the store and come back out from being in the store for a few mins, eventually it does turn over but not without alot of cranking and curse words, until now I just found out after a longer 20 min trip it did it again, telling me its getting worse. 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe / 205,000 kms....

Tonite on the drive home it was about 10 F and once my car was up to temp, I put my foot into it, I felt the car hesitate a bit, the CEL flashed a few times and went off. Could the cold temp cause that or is it more likely a bad coil?
View 6 RepliesPrius (Gen 3) Fuel :: MPGs Dropping From 51-53 To 44-47 Range In Cold Temps
Winter temps are dropping my mpgs from 51-53 mpg to the 44-47 mpg range. Snow, rain, slush puts drag on the car, as well as temps in the 20-40s causing the ICE to run more during warmup and during the 15 mile trip I make daily. Also mpgs in town on 1-3 mile trips are dropping into 29-33 mpg range. I guess the Prius isn't made to thrive in cold temps. I don't know if there is much I can do about it. I did remember to raise the pressures in my tires which has dropped also.
View 19 RepliesFord - F150 :: Whine Comes From Engine At Startup In Very Cold Temps
I has been quite cold in my area lately. Buy cold, I mean like 0 or a few degrees below. We also had some snow which ahs made it a requirement to drive my 4WD Ford truck with the 4.6L engine. This is a 1997 Ford F-150 light duty which is the oddball with the 7 lug wheels among others. It is 4WD with a manual transmission. The truck has close to 300k on it and I was told it had a used engine installed when I bought the truck but have never been able to verify this. The engine runs well without odd noises or clanks and doesn't burn or use oil. I have the O'Reilly brand 5W30 synthetic oil in the engine.
There has been a strange whine that comes from the engine at startup in these very cold temps. This only lasts a few short seconds and quickly goes away. I have the manual transmission in neutral so I figure it is engine related and not the transmission. It sounds like a gear noise or whine so I am assuming maybe the oil is too thick to get through the oil pump, timing chain, or similar.
This only happens at cold starts when it is VERY cold outside but I wanted to make sure this wasn't a sign of impending failure. The truck runs well otherwise and I would gladly replace the oil pump if it were going out. I was also thinking about switching to a 0W30 as the truck is mostly used in the winter anyway if the oil not being thick enough is a possibility.
Ford Excursion :: Brake Pad Bedding / Slight Brake Squeal
I replaced my front pads/rotors after the dealership suggested same. I went with NAPA Ultra Premium rotors and Hawk LTS pads. I applied the high temp brake grease to the pad ends and shims, but forgot to install the two "V" spring clamps on the left front pads. The sliding caliper bolts seemed free, but I didn't clean them (I should have and will do so if I tear the brakes back down). I bedded the pads by doing 30mph to almost stops 3 or 4 times then 45mph to almost stops 1 or 2 times...not sure if that was enough based on reading other posts on how to bed.
I now have a slight squeal and not sure if it's due to a lack of those V clamps or if I didn't bed the pads correctly or other. Thoughts? Can the pads be "re-bed" if I boofed it up the first time? I'm about to do the rear rotors/pads and want to do it right.
The X stops OK, but I thought it would be more aggressive than it is with the pad/rotor combo I installed. I tow a ~8,000# TT and want good stopping power.
Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: HVAC Blower Noise In Cold Temps
Was 7 degrees F out this morning. Went to turn on the defrost and heard this: (may need to turn up audio a bit)
2013 F150 HVAC blower noise in cold temps - YouTube
There was some snow/ice buildup under the "grate" that sits above that I imagine is the air intake for the blower. Hoping that it was just Ice buildup that will thaw out.
I ended up having to turn it on because the condensation on the windshield was becoming a safety issue when I drove into work. Motor made quite a high pitched wine. Better that than slid into a car.
Subaru - Outback :: 2.5 CVT - Transmission Stay In Lower Gears When Ambient Temps Are Very Cold
2015 Outlook 2.5 CVT - Regardless of engine temp/or oil temp, transmission will stay in low gears (relative - its a CVT) such that the car is always doing approx. 2100 RPMs. When it occurs, 35mph is 2100 RPMs; when problem is not present, same speed would be approx 1200 RPMs. Same for higher speed. 45mph would be 2100 verses approx 1400rpm. Gear indicator does indicate a '4' or '5' when it would normally be '6'.
Outside temps in excess of 30 degress - no evidence of problem. Below 30, may or may not happen. No check engine light and it does affect MPG significantly.
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Front Brake Chatter When Cold
My 97 F150 4.6 4x2. I have a semi-rough front end "chatter" when the brakes are first applied after vehicle has been sitting overnight. It feels like it comes from the front disk brakes, I assumed it was a warped rotor or loose wheel bearing so I replaced the front rotors (old were to thin to turn), new wheel bearings and pads. Still had the issue, so I then assumed it was a bad caliper... replaced both those, and all related hardware. Still have the issue!
I can not reproduce the event until the vehicle is in the cold state and it will only do it once or twice, so I am finding it difficult to diagnose. Tired of blindly attacking this issue by changing what I thought was obvious. F150, 130K miles, 4.6l, automatic, 4x2, rear drums, front disk
Bmw :: Squeal Or Whistle From Brake

View 1 RepliesSanta Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Squeal From Engine On Cold Startup
Twice this week our 2009 SantaFe (3.3l) had a squeal from the engine upon cold startup. The first time it was very cold (-20C or so) and this was louder and longer than the second time (-10C or so). The squeal lasted only a few seconds and trailed off to nothing. Each time the heater controls were set on defrost (fyi). In order of likely suspects, I suspect one of the following:
-compressor engaging and causing sudden increase in resistance on the belt or compressor engagement clutch noisy
-idler pulley for some reason causing belt to slip at first, but don't suspect idler bearing as noise disappears right away
-belt slippage due to resistance somewhere else--e.g. water pump or alternator.
This may not happen when I take the vehicle in for its next scheduled maintenance as by then the weather will likely be warmer. This has 76000 km on the clock.
Golf/GTI VII :: Brake Pad Noises At Cold Startup
In recent months I hear some new noises at cold start. First is coming from the front of the car, a few seconds I start reversing from a cold start, sounds like an automobile equivalent of my back cracking. Not metallic, more plastic-ish. Could this be "pad slap" from my front brakes? It happens about 75% of the time after a cold start. Second is from the rear-end but that is consistently linked to the first time I depress the break pedal once the car is in Drive, again after a cold start. Its more like a one-shot "thud" whereas the front-end noise is a bit more elongated.

On a 1998 F150 2 wheel drive 4.6 250k, the front brakes will drag under a specific set of circumstances; only in prolonged stop and go traffic with hot ambient temps. Rotors, calipers, rear shoes, drums, fluid, bearings, seals have all been replaced. This occurs only a couple of times a year, otherwise the brakes work perfectly. It starts out as a slight shimmy that worsens until you can smell the pads cooking and the wheels are hotter than hell. The truck will hardly move at times. The rears are normal. After the truck cools for hours, no symptoms.
