Accord :: 2000 - Bad Vibration At Idle - Revving The Engine Smooths It Out At Certain RPM
I have a 2000 Accord with a 2.3L 4 cylinder and manual transmission. I just changed the timing belt, balancer belt, water pump, tensioner wheels and other external belts. I now get a bad engine vibration at idle and when backing up and pulling forward. The vibration is quite noticeable in the steering wheel. Revving the engine smooths it out at certain RPM's. I know this isn't right and its got to be limited to something I just did. I followed the instructions in the Honda service manual and thought that everything went back to gather correctly. I double checked the timing and balancer alignments. The motor mount on the drivers side is simple and all went back together correctly. Is there a way to verify correct timing belt and balancer belt alignments without tearing it all down again?

My 2000 Honda Civic sputters a bit after it starts, and then smooths out and runs fine. This has been happening in the morning and at the end of the work day this week. I recently got a new starter. My battery is rather old. Could it be that?
View 3 RepliesMercury - Mystique :: 1996 - Rumbly Idle - Vibrates - But Giving It Gas Smooths It Out
This is something my car has been doing for a while but it seems like it's gotten gradually worse, or at least I've been noticing it more. The car's a 1996 Mercury Mystique 2.0L 4-cyl, 74000 miles. The issue arises when I am idling in drive (like at a red light). There is a distinct rumbling that you can feel through the seat and the steering wheel, and see if you look at the wheel or dashboard. It's not visible from outside the car, though.
The vibration is worst when the car is idling low -- typically around 500 rpm. When I'm driving, the vibration is not noticeable. Also, when idling, the rpms "pulse" upwards to about 700 rpm, and the vibration goes away. It will be rough for about 5 seconds, then bump up to 700 rpm for a second or so and smooth out. If the car is in neutral or park, the vibration goes away.
So I suppose there's two issues: 1) the low idle that "pulses" upwards, and 2) the vibration itself. Is the vibration just an effect of idling too low, and raising the idle might fix the problem? What would cause a low idle? Or, if the idle does not seem too low, what would cause vibration that is dependent on RPMs?
The scheduled maintenance is up to date, but the car is due for 75K maintenance next weekend. The PCV system was cleaned and valve replaced, air filter replaced, and spark plugs and wires replaced 12000 miles (~1 yr) ago. The idle air control valve was replaced at around 55000 miles (~2 yrs ago), I believe (the previous owner, a friend of mine, had had trouble with the car stalling at idle, and replacing the IACV seemed to fix it).
Ford Excursion :: 7.3 Idles Fine Then Rises To 1k RPM - Smooths Out When Give Throttle
As the title says, I just replaced my JVC harness and glow plugs, now it start and run fine, but it will suddenly raise the idle to 1000rpm, and sit steadily untill I press the gas pedal, then it will fall into its normal idle range. I replaced the stuff today, and I did not get the time to get the engine hot, or test drive it, before I had to leave. But the engine did start fine, and idle fine. Except from the sudden raise after a few minutes idling, it will then hold around 1k rpm.
Strange, can't remember if it did that before. I get no fault codes on my SCT device. The car has been sitting for 3 months before I finally got the glowplug relay, mine was non functional.
Mazda - Miatamx-5 :: 2008 - Bumping Feel For The First Couple Of Minutes Of Driving Then Smooths Out
I have a 2008 Miata that is new to me (<40K miles). When I first drive it in the morning it has a very noticeable bumping feel for the first couple of minutes then smooths out and is not noticeable for the rest of the day, even if I park it for a couple of hours. I believe the bumping is coming from the rear driver's side. I just replaced the tires (thinking they were flat spotted), but the problem persists.

View 7 RepliesGolf/GTI VII :: Pulsating Vibration At 70 Mph
For the last two months I've been having pulsating vibration at 70 mph (68-72) in the gas pedal. I brought it into the dealership 3 times now and then assure me nothing is wrong. They checked wheel bearings, alignment, rebalanced the tires, and even drove other 2015 GTIs and claimed they had the exact same pulsating vibration in the pedal at that speed. (If that's truly the case, which I don't believe, that's a big issue).

In addition to having some play in all gears, I am having vibration only in 4th. I put brand new oil in the trans, and I intend to do the cable adjustment and new bushing next weekend. I am concerned that this will not fix the problem though. It only happens in 4th and in addition to vibration, when alternating from being on the throttle to not i can see and feel the lever kick forward a bit (when off the gas) and snap back when i get back on the throttle. It has never actually popped out of gear, but it is definitely not normal.

View 8 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Vibration At 3.5k RPM
My Jetta is working again (I have done head gasket and suspension replacement).
It drives OK but when the engine hits 3.5k RPM... I get a vibration on the whole car, that disappears right away when the RPM increase or decrease a little from ~3500. What could it be? What should I look for? Some engine mount that is getting old?
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Vibration Shows Up When Going 70 To 75 Mph
I have a vibration that shows up when I am going 70 to 75 mph. I don't really feel it much at all in the steering wheel (not shaking side to side at all). It's more the whole car like I feel it in the seat more than anything. It's definitely a fast vibration so I'm sure it has something to do with wheel speed (wheels, bearings or axles?) I thought it was a bad wheel as my rear passenger wheel was bent and out of round making that tire become cupped real bad.
So time came for new tires and I decided to get a new set of wheels to put the new tires on. Got my wheels and tires from tire rack already mounted and balanced. Put the new wheels and tires on and the vibration is still there just the same. Wheel bearings all seem good. The front wheel bearings were replaced about 4 or 5 months ago (vibration was there before wheel bearings were replaced) along with a front suspension refresh kit from ECS with new lower control arms.
I'm curious if the CV axles could cause this type of vibration even though they are not making any noise. My car is not lowered at all and I am running stock wheel and tire sizes. I'm not above trying new axles as ECS has them for a good price. Checked with Raxles first but for the 24v VR6 they only have the performance ones.
Golf/GTI VI :: Vibration At Idle And In Neutral
So, I recently began noticing a weird vibration when I'm at idle and in neutral (with clutch pedal released), for example at a stop light.
It is a very low frequency shudder - as if someone was intermittently shaking their leg in the passenger seat, shimmying the car... It is not continuous, and not consistent. It often, but not always, occurs with a period of around 5-7 seconds, i.e. every 5-7 seconds it's like someone just shook their leg in the passenger seat.
I'm worried something may be wrong as I don't recall noticing this in the past, but then again, it's subtle enough i might have missed it. I'm at about 50 kmi on my 2010 Golf TDI.
Golf IV R32 :: Vibration On The Freeway And At Different RMPs
I have had this vibration on the freeway and at different RPMs in different gears and i can figure out the vibrations... its mainly coming from my gas pedal... clutch and brake pedal are usually fine and the steering wheel is alright i guess.
I replaced my dog-bone mount because it was F'd up and got my wheels balanced so those two are eliminated. i know my tires have some camber wear but i feel like it wouldn't be intermittent if that were the case. I am stumped and I hate playing the game where i just replace everything hoping to fix the problem...
Car has 104k miles
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Vibration In The Front End
I have an 04 Jetta that I recently had the trans replaced and ever since I picked it up there is a vibration in the front end. I took the car back and they said it was my DP hitting the cross member. They suspected mounts. I ordered and installed all 3 new mounts but the noise is still there and the trans mount looks crooked where the mount bolts to the trans bracket.
View 8 RepliesGolf VI R :: Vibration When Cruising Just Above 70 To 75 Mph From The Rear
Picked up an R about a month ago. Have noticed a harmonic vibration when cruising just above 70 mph to 75 mph from the rear. I can assure you that it is not the wheel balance. Seems to go away if I depress the clutch. I'm thinking it is the butterfly valve on the muffler not fully closing and creating a resonance by fluttering at the rpms (exhaust flow) between 70-75 mph. I haven't tried disconnecting/plugging the vacuum line yet.
View 3 RepliesGolf/GTI VII :: Vibration Noise Going When Get The Car Up To Speed
I hit one f-ing pothole and it blew my tire and bent the inside of my rim slightly, now this was a few weeks ago. ever since I have had this weird vibration noise going vvvrm vvvrm vvvrm when I get the car up to speed. took it to the dealer today and they are saying the wheel bearing is already bad!?!?! the car has 1500 miles on it. I hit a million potholes in my mk4 and had more than 150k on the clock before my wheel bearing went bad. I am not impressed with VW's craftsmanship if this is how its going to be. Now, the wheel is still round otherwise I would be hearing a thump thump thump while driving wouldn't I? also the tire is still holding air, no leaks since I had the new tire mounted. but the dealership is saying that the wheel is so bent its part of the problem.
View 17 RepliesGolf V R32 :: Slight Vibration At About 35mph And Up
I recently was driving down my road in an ice storm from work and slid sideways into what I think was a depressed storm drain. (Lots of snow as well so unable to tell what exactly what it was) I hit the right front tire/rim into it. It was the loudest thud, one where you would think the tire came off. Nothing apparent visually, but on the highway it did create a slight vibration so i had both front tires re-balanced. Again, still a vibration about 35mph and up. Rebalanced again and still the same exact vibration.
It's not like hand numbing on the steering wheel but annoying and when you know you car in and out you know what vibrations are supposed to be there and which ones aren't. The tire place said the rim was not bent. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I was thinking of switching that right front tire to the back to maybe see if that worked with the vibe. Next step would be an alignment but the tire place insisted that wasn't the problem since I had one in November when the snows went on.
