Golf IV R32 :: Harsh Vibration When Turning At Low Speed
Had a little tap tap tap vibration when doing between 45 and 65 mph. Assumed it was either wheel bearing or CV joint. Noticed the vibration when slightly turning like a lane change.
Now when we back out of a parking spot the whole car vibrates like it's stuck in AWD. Not sure, I guess a bad CV joint would cause this. I'm gonna inspect wheel bearings but I think they are fine. Not sure if the high speed vibration is still here.
CV joints causing nasty vibrations through out the car? Nasty harsh vibration at low speeds with the wheel turned? What's the proper way to inspect these CV joints??
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2004 GTI - Vibration And Loud Noise When Turning Left
So I have a 2004 gti that makes a very loud noise when i turn the wheel even slightly to the left there is also a vibration that shakes the whole right side of the car. I assumed based on the sound and vibration that it was the wheel bearing. the bearing was shot but when i replaced it nothing changed. so it has a brand new wheel bearing and the cv joint is good ive already checked it everything seems to be as it should. i cant think of anything else it could be. What the problem could be caused by?
View 11 RepliesGolf IV R32 :: Humming / Vibration Sound Coming From Back When Turning At Slow Speed
I purchased my .:R last summer with just over 100k miles on it. Two prior owners, car was fully stock and in great condition except for one thing:
Humming/vibration ("brrrrr" sound) coming from the back of the car when turning at a slow speed with the wheel fully cranked, e.g. moving out of a parking spot. It only occurs when moving, and with the wheel fully or almost fully turned in one direction.
The guy I purchased it from brought it to a local VW dealership when he noticed this and they (obviously) did not find anything wrong with the car, and blamed it on the tire wear.
So I changed all four tires. Still made the noise.
Haldex oil had been changed by the original owner but not by the second owner (who owned the car for two years prior to my purchase). So I had the Haldex oil changed and my mechanic said it was dirty AND at a low level, and might be the source of this problem. The noise did diminish for a bit, but it is still present.
So, I'm afraid my transmission or differential are fried from running on too little oil. It does not affect anything but it is definitely worrying me.
Prius (Gen 2) :: Noise And Vibration In Steering When Turning To Right
2006 Prius (options 3) 140,000 + mileage. New tires, front brakes and waterpump. Everything else original. Noise and vibration in steering when turning to the right. Driving straight or turning to left normal sound. If i just turn slighly to the right and then straighten out, over and over the noise follows the turn.
View 3 RepliesLexus GX 2010+ :: Vibration When Turning At Low Speed
I have a switchback in my driveway, which it pretty steep. I've noticed that when I'm turning right going uphill on that switchback, with some accelerator applied to get up the hill, I get a vibration through the steering column and floor.
Not super-noticeable, but noticeable. I've also tried it on the flat. If I turn the steering wheel maybe a little more than halfway towards the "stop" at the very limit and then accelerate a little bit, the vibration is there too.
I don't think my old land cruiser or my current fj exhibit this vibration. Don't know if it would be originating from the transmission or cv joints. Doesn't seem completely right in an "off-road" designed vehicle.
Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Vibration On Acceleration And Turning
When I accelerate from a stop or turn left/right with my 2006 Santa Fe, I receive a vibration which feels like a sliding motion or skidding over rough pavement. Have just recently switched my tires from winter to summer and have had them balanced and aligned twice with no change in the problem.
View 2 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2003 - Vibration When Turning?
What may be wrong with my 03 4wd Explorer. I think I actually might have had two problems, one of which is now fixed.
When I turn in my Explorer from a dead stop, either left or right, there is a vibration that seems like it is in the steering or front wheels. It seemed to get worse over time and I ended up replacing my bearing assemblies which were in fact bad. It may be possible that they went bad because the problem I can't identify messed them up, I don't know.
What I do know is that the longer I drive the car on a trip, the worse the vibration becomes. After 50 miles or so when things are good and heated up, it's really noticeable when you turn at a stop light or in a parking lot or something.
I have new tires, it's in alignment, the tie rod ends and ball joints are tight, and like I said, I've got new bearing assemblies. I looked over everything real good when I had it apart. Power Steering fluid is full too. The transmission fluid has been recently changed, and I did my front and rear diff fluids and transfer case at 100K (I'm at 115K now).
Grand Prix :: Slight Vibration When Turning Left
I just replaced the passenger wheel hub assembly (and axle due to complications) and the noise is still there. I have a loud hum that starts at about 30mph, is present when going straight, but gets much louder as the steering wheel is turned to the left. It is completely gone when turning to the right. It gets louder with speed and how much the wheel is turned left. At highway speeds, on a long sweeping left-hand curving connector, the noise is VERY LOUD. There is a slight vibration that occurs, but it's not bad at all. The noise continues when the trans is in neutral. I've even shut off the car while testing this in a parking lot, and the noise continues. The noise varies depending on the height or load of the suspension. It varies as the car rides over dips in the road.
I really though it would end up being the passenger wheel hub, even though there was no noticeable play in either hub. I've had noisy hubs before that had no noticeable play. But after a very obnoxious repair, it's not the hub. All tie rods have no play. All 4 heels were recently aligned. The alignment made no difference in the noise. I replaced a bad tranny mount about a year ago. Motor mounts look good. Ball joints are good. Replaced axles about 3 years ago. Replaced bad struts and strut mounts about a year ago. New control arms due to bad bushings. All these things I've replaced recently were making noises too, but the left-hand hum is always present. This is my last noise and it's driving me crazy. I've always felt it comes more from the driver's side, but my wife disagrees and my hearing isn't great due to too much range time.
Oh, I recently noticed that the steering wheel tends to want to return to center from the right more than it does from the left. Again, alignment was done by a reputable garage just a few months ago. They also found nothing during there safety inspection. I also noticed that the car is not sitting level as it seems that the rear driver-side spring is sagging about 1.5". The noise is not very obvious from outside the car. I know I'm forgetting some other things I've checked for this problem. I'll post more as I think of it.
My current theories are driver's-side hub, something with the steering rack, spring heights, something vibrating (body panel, loose part?), something with the auto-tranny.
Mazda - Mazda6 :: Front End Vibration At Certain Speed And When Turning Right
2009 mazda6, I feel some vibration feels like wheel is out of balance coming from the front left wheel, it's most noticable at 30mph and again at 60mph. It's more noticable when i'm turning right, e.g. shiting to the right lane.
Already replaced four tires, balanced the tires and replaced front struts and rear shocks.. and it's still there!!
when shifting to the right lane, the vibration feels like da-da-da-da-da.. like I'm driving over some washboard road.
What could this be, is this CV-joint? can I ask dealer to check out CV-joint see if it's ok?
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Vibration While Turning Right - Possibly Coilovers?
I just got 4 brand new tires put on balanced and aligned twice. Now when the wheel is straight i get minimal vibration. But if I turn left I get no vibration. When I turn right at all its a pretty medium loudness vibration. almost sounds like something rubbing. Now I just found out my coilovers are all messed up on height. If I level it do you think that will fix my vibration? the guy at tire plus said possible transmission causing vibration but the tranny seems fine to me. he also said if I raised it about a quarter inch it could stop it all together possibly. But I love being low....

2000 3.5L
On a hard left high speed turn, it vibrates under load. Also while under throttle when making a second gear left hand turn.
Noise will come and go when going over dips at high speeds under load. I have already replaced the left Half shaft.
I am a master mechanic and have had success with changing a half shaft on a similar situation. Looking for other possibilities before I throw another half shaft at it.
Lexus LS 2007+ :: LS600 Steering Vibration At Low Speeds When Turning
I just bought a 2008 LS600 Obsidian with Exec package. Happy with the car except for some steering vibration at low speeds when turning. Took it to Newport Lexus...they say..."normal for an AWD LS600".
View 11 RepliesElantra XD (2001-06) :: Knocking When Turning / Vibration At Higher Speeds
Recently when I was on a longer distance drive (multiple hours) my car was producing an unusual vibration. It seemed to go away after some time. At the end of my drive I was turning left around a bend and there was knocking sound. One of the boots on the cv joint has been leaking grease so I went ahead and replaced both cv axels.
The knocking is still there. Here are the symptoms:
- Knocking sound when turning left when the accelerator is down.
- Knocking sound is somewhat intermittent when turning, not always continuous.
- The vibration is not always there and is only there at higher speeds, and is made worse when accelerating.
- All of this appears to get worse the longer the car is driven (heat?).
Nissan - Maxima :: 1990 - Vibration At Highway Speeds When Turning Right
It is a '90 Nissan Maxima. I just replaced my drivers side axle (cv joint was clicking), and now my car vibrates at highway speeds when turning right. I am pretty sure I seated the axle correctly....could it be a bad axle? I heard that turning the axle 90 degrees and reinstalling may work? I got a new axle (Empi brand).
View 2 RepliesFord Aerostar :: Noise And Vibration When Turning Steering Wheel
I've got a 1993 ford aerostar. Today, my steering wheel started shaking/rattling when I turn the steering wheel. Seems to be more obvious when turning right rather than left, and is only obvious at low speeds.
Only thing out of usual was that the front had been on jacks for a few days for an unrelated (starter) repair. What to check or how to isolate? I imagine it has to do with the power steering but not sure what to check.
Ford - Explorer :: 2004 - Vibration When Come To A Stop And Turning Left Or Right

View 1 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Vibration In Steering Wheel - Whining When Turning In Either Direction
Crossing 90K soon and noticing some vibration in the steering wheel. Have also been trying (in vain) to locate a clicking suspension noise in the rear.
Decided to pop the Red Sled up on stands and tighten stuff up. Few loose nuts in the rear (sway bar end links and the trailing arm bolts) so retorqued those. However, noise has only decreased, not gone away.
In the front, things are even worse. Tie rods are due for replacement (boots broken and right one had water in it) as well as ball joints. But the worse part is that the steering rack is whining when turning in either direction.
Thinking of tackling the front end work aside from alignment. Doesn't look hard so I do not fear that. But the steering rack is another beast entirely.
Prius (2001-03) :: Severe Vibration When Turning Hard Right Followed By PS Error Code
This summer my power steering went out. I replaced the steering rack with a remanufactured rack, which failed. I got the replacement rack replaced by the remanufacturer and installed by a different shop. Same problem: SEVERE vibration when turning hard right followed by the PS error code, or just little twitchy motions when driving. I'm having the second shop take a look at it again this monday as I suspect that this is a data processing issue.
