Golf/GTI VI :: 2010 - Both Retainers Broken Again - Rear Parcel Shelf Lifter Things Too Short?
I'm talking about the little nylon ropes that lift up the parcel shelf when you open the hatch. On my 2010 the car came off the lot (zero miles) with both retainers broken. Theyve broken again since then and were replaced; I talked to the dealer and there's no preventative fix, just replace them every time they break. Any thoughts? I tried to search this but I think I'm calling the parcel shelf/deck thingy the wrong name...

So I am reading through my manual for my 3 day old non-nav R32. My dealer told me where the AUX jack is (I have a non iPod MP3 player), but I don't see anything in the manual about how I get it to work. Not that I have tried yet, I need to go and get a male-male stereo jack first. But I don't see any button on the non-nav stereo in the car that points to enabling the AUX jack.

What the spring loaded valve is for in the stock air filter box is for? I replaced the air filter with a K&N and found the valve in the box. My guess is to open with the engine air draw with a dirty filter.

New GTI. I can manually put all 4 windows down and open the sunroof then get them all to CLOSE by holding the lock slot on the door but I simply cannot get them all to open at once holding down the driver window switch. I'm doing exactly what the manual states to do. With ignition off. But with power either on or off this doesn't work for me.

how common a problem it seems to be that our fans just stop working. Replacing those later this week.
My question is concerning my AC not working. Is it possible that, since the two fans won't work at all, the AC system won't engage? Or do I have two completely unrelated problems?

So I completed the install of the OEM reverse camera with ECS wiring harness. I followed the wiring diagram, tapped into power at the back of the head unit according to this thread but nothing works. Neither the hatch lever nor the camera. I have to open the hatch manually from the inside.
I double checked the wiring diagram and everything is correct. I also plugged the old hatch wiring harness directly into the new camera by bypassing the ECS harness, and afterwards the hatch lever actually works... however, with the wiring harness installed, with the old hatch wiring harness inserted into the ECS wiring harness, the hatch lever does nothing.
Does the handle need power to function?
Did I tap into the wrong location for power? I was going to use a fuse tap, but couldn't get the fuse tap to plug in so I used the head unit. Where did people tap into for power? Did people use the red/white wire at the back of the head unit? I redid the connection with a simple twist joiner but things still don't work.... I also ran a new power line through the car to see if that would solve things. So is my problem:
1. faulty wiring harness
2. improper power supply
3. faulty camera unit
4. other.

2001 GTI VR6. 82,000mi and it has some issues. Right now, the wiper fluid doesn't function but the tank is full of fluid, I found a wire cluster with a clip that wasn't even hooked up. Problem, I don't know where to connect it.

I've just acquired a 2008 Cranberry T'reg V8 with the Techno and Lux packages. Whenever any function on the Nav/Radio unit is activated, the radio turns on. For example, when shifting into reverse, this activates the reverse camera screen -- and the radio also turns on. Likewise, if I turn on the navigation screen, the radio turns on. This is kind of annoying if I don't want the radio on, but want other functions activated. Is there a setting that I'm missing? The only thing I can figure is to keep the volume setting at zero.

So I'm not sure if it's something I did or an actual issue. I've had my t-reg less than a week and I just noticed that for some reason the turn signals don't seem to function properly.
Here's what happens: The signals outside the car (incl. side view mirrors) will work. But I get no clicking noise and the indicators on the dash do not light up (same issue with hazzards). I turned the car on/off and the radio on/off and nothing.
So I turn around and come back home to call my VW dealer, but all of a sudden the signals just started working again after I restarted the car. Did I do something?

I have quick question that probably has an equally quick answer. When I press up on one end of the sunroof control dial, it makes a click. I can only push it up when the dial is in the 'roof closed' position. I've read somewhere that this 'button' should do something, but when I press it nothing happens. Do pushing up the sunroof control dial is supposed to do anything?

Just purchased a 2007 RX350 w/front wheel drive. We just had our first snow storm in Boston. The manual says to use the ECT SNOW switch when it's slippery. Around here, it's slippery a LOT! What exactly does that switch do? Should I leave it on the majority of the time will my mileage get worse?
Is it acting in effect, like 4-wheel drive?

I am in the process of having my interior wrapped in 3M Anthracite and have the cup holder removed, and noticed there is a wire harness below it that plugs into the cup holder unit. Since the holder doesn't truly have any electrical components what is the purpose of it? Additionally, I've noticed since I unplugged this harness, my LuxLink has stopped responding. I'm curious whether something is wrong with the cooling function on my seats. While a +3 on the control seems to heat the entire seat rapidly and at a high temp, a -3 only gives me a moderate airflow out of the area under my thighs. Is the air supposed to flow out of the entire perforated region of the leather (upper back and inner-side sections) or is what I am experiencing normal?
Was thinking maybe I need to replace a component to get a stronger airflow out of the seat.
