Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Real Wheel Flopping Around - Wheel Studs?
Heard a thumping yesterday as I'm getting on the highway at rush hour. I looked in the drivers mirror and I see my rear wheel flopping around. I had sheared off 6 of the 8 studs. After towing it home I pulled the wheel and tapped out the broken studs. I've never done this before so I'm a bit unsure as to how I get the new studs in. The drum brake assembly is behind the rotor and even if I pulled all that out it still doesn't look like I have enough room. Did I just discover this job is bigger than I thought?
View 6 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Wheel Studs Broken On Front Driver Side
Unfortunately I broke off one of the wheel studs on the front drivers side of my 2010 Prius. I got a new stud from Toyota but I'm not sure exactly how to put the new one on. Looking for any steps on how to replace a front wheel stud? Not even sure how to raise calipers/remove rotor (if that's necessary to replace stud)....
View 9 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: 2000 - Way To Install CV Axle?
I am stuck in the process of replacing a driver side CV axle on a 2000 Jetta VR6 automatic. I followed a Youtube video that may have misguided me. I removed the ball joint connection to take out the axle. (I will need a alignment after all this.) I was able to take out the old cv axle, but unable to put the new one on. While taking out the old one, the strut sank 2 inches. I then disconnected the suspension from the braking system, so it would be lighter and easier to push the strut up. However, it will not budge upwards. Do I need to compress the spring? How to move the strut up?
View 14 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2004 - Rear Passenger Side Wheel Studs Removal
How do you remove the rear pass side wheel studs? I have knocked them loose but there isn't enough clearance to remove them. I have removed the parking brake shoes already. Does the hub have to be pulled to do this?
View 2 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Rear Suspension Rattle After Coilover Install
This previous weekend, my buddies and I finally got my FK coilovers installed on my GTI. I have heard that people say there is a little bit of rattling upon them getting properly seated. Well it has been 4 days of driving and now sounds like the rattling has gotten worse! I took it into a local suspension shop and they couldn't put a thumb on it. We in-turn found out that my rear hub bearing was going out and has since been replace. Having issues with coilovers? I have contacted the company that I purchased them through already and am awaiting feedback from them.
Pic of the car in question. (Before coilovers)...
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Hard To Reverse After Shifter Bushing Install
Installed some shifter cable bushings. But now reverse is harder to get to. Instead of just pushing it down and left for reverse.. Now I have to tilt the shift know slightly towards 4th gear then push down and go left and the gate seems so much smaller now. Overall it doesn't feel that much better than stock. what could i have done wrong?
View 6 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Lowering Rear Axle To Install OEM Suitcase Muffler
I am replacing the mid and rear (suitcase) mufflers on my daughter's 2001 2.0L Jetta wagon. She is not interested in anything that would be louder than stock. What I am seeing is that the rear axle needs to be dropped to remove / install the rear muffler. Can this be correct? I know I can continue to cut off parts of the old muffler but that does me no good when it comes to install the new unit.
View 2 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Wheel Leaks From The Area That Connects To The Wheel Base
I bought these wheels last summer from ECS Tuning - Alzor wheels for my Jetta. I haven't driven too much on them since I was deployed to Afghanistan for 9 months. I've been home 4 months. I think I have about 10k miles on them. The issue is that now one of them leaks. I took it in to be checked, thinking it was the tire. There is no rock rash, I haven't hit anything. The wheel leaks from the area that the spoke connects to the wheel base. There is no visible sign of a crack at all so I don't know what the heck is up. The paint looks fine from the spot it leaks from.

I have a bad wheel bearing but on the highway my steering wheel shakes. It is only on the highway not down residential streets. I'm pretty sure it is the driver's side wheel bearing. I already balanced my wheels and everything.

View 3 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Squeaky Front Right Wheel
My car is a 99.5 Jetta 2.0 5 speed. Recently it had developed a squeak coming from the front right wheel. It speeds up/slows down based on vehicle speed. I jacked up the car to examine and once the wheel was off I checked everything and it appeared fine. Wheel bearing, tierod, and ball joint all replaced a few months ago, and brake pads and rotors replaced a week ago.
With the wheel off I spun rotor and it did still make the noise. That being said it rules out the possibility of anything to do with the wheel or any bushings. Obvious answer would be the brakes but they are brand new and appear fine. Anything missing?

I have this issue from time to time where I will be driving and my car will randomly stall itself out and shut off. what could be the issue?
2nd I have an issue while idling, where if I am idling I feel a slight vibration like it is about to stall.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: MK4 GTI Leans A Lot To Right When Let Off Steering Wheel - Out Of Alignment
My mkiv gti leans a lot to the right whenever I let off the steering wheel. I brought it to a shop and they put it up on a lift and told me that I needed a tie rod flip kit because it's lowered. Long story short, they charged me $70 to look at it for 10 minutes. Do you really need a flip kit for a car lowered on coilovers? I have several friends with lowered cars and none off them have had to do this. I'm thinking it's something else such as a bad shock but I'm no expert.
View 14 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Grinding Sound From Rear Wheel
So its been about 2 months since this grinding sound started whenever Im going under 40km/h on my Mk IV Jetta.
Brake pads/rotors that is causing this or something else?
There is a metal/rubber friction smell when I park and get out of the car... It also drifts to the right a little and the alignment was done about 6months ago. I'm guessing its related to the rear breaks or I could be wrong?
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Steering Wheel Shifting 20 Degree To The Right
My 20th in the past 15k has received all of the following parts: driver axle, both ball joints, driver full tie rod the pass isn't OEM and feels fine, poly control arm bushings, poly sway bar bushings, fk coilovers with new mounts and bearings, and both wheel bearings, and I believe that's it.
The problem is: when you're going down the road, whether you're turning or going straight, if you give it any gas the steering wheel will shift a good 20 to the right and it'll shift the car over to the right but continue going straight. Then when any type of braking occurs, the wheel goes back to center shifting the car back to the left and continue going straight again until I apply the gas again. The steering will also shift if I hit a bump. But it's only to the right. I'm stumped as to what the problem is and its quite dangerous. Power steering is fine, no leaks.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Rear Wheel Creaking On Rotation?
I am having a creaking coming from my rear wheel i have went back and tightened everything up to correct torques its a creaking like something is loose. I did just put my summer wheels back on with my adapters (h&r) and have tightened everything up to correct specs. I cant seem to figure out what the noise is i am hopefully going to get a video up of the noise. I tightened everything up in the break system (caliper pins/rollers made sure the pads were okay, the pads and rotros are new).
Suspension is tight (coilovers). Just cant seem to figure out the issue i have been through it a thousand times and the noise just gets louder and quicker as I accelerate that how i figure its on rotation.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2001 / 1.8t - Steering Wheel Shaking
I'm almost at a lose here. I have a 01 1.8t golf and at 60 the steering wheel shakes and at 80+ i feel it in the whole car. I've already replaced both axles, wheel bearings, tie rods, ball joints, new coilovers, new wheels and tires, and passenger side control arm. There's not much more I can replace besides hubs and driver control arm or do u think it could be defective parts like one of the new axles.
View 9 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Clunking From Left Wheel When Turn Right
I have replaced the ball joints(a year and a half ago) and put in the the ecs tuning control arms with the solid bushing. Recently, I have had a clunking sound, from the left wheel, when turning right. Kind of sounds like the ball joints when they were bad. This noise only occurs when I turn right under about 30mph. It also feels like the wheel might be doing a quick "wiggle." Do you think it is the ball joint again? Could a bad wheel bearing be doing this? I have replaced the right wheel bearing, but have not done the left one yet.
