Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Throw Out Bearing Making Faint Chirping Noise
My throw out bearing makes a faint chirping noise since I bought the car, but now that the weather has been in teens, it seems to be louder.
I was wondering if it is possible to grease the throw out bearing or something without dropping the transmission.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Knocking Noise While In Neutral - Bad Throw Out Bearing?
so lately I've been noticing a slight rattling/knocking noise coming from my car while it is in neutral and the clutch is not pushed it. When I push the clutch in, the noise goes away. I've read that this could be a sign of a bad throw out bearing? Is this right? If it is the throw out bearing, how long can I expect until it completely craps out on me? It seems to only do it on cold starts and sometimes on the uneven ground. I figured I should start saving some money to have this done because I'm not comfortable doing it myself.
Some other questions I had is my car is a 24v VR6 and it has 144k original miles. The timing chains and guides have not been replaced (to my knowledge at least). I know that replacing the throwout bearing requires removal of the transmission and so does doing the lower timing chain. If I get my throw out bearing replaced, should I have them do the chains also since they are already in there? I have no noise coming from my chains at all so there are no signs that they are going bad. Also, should I have my clutch replaced while they are in there? Again, no signs of a bad clutch either.
Golf IV R32 :: Makes Clicking Binding Noise While At Idle - Bad Throw Out Bearing?
I have a clicking binding noise while at idle, with the clutch out it goes away, when depressed its there. So, is this a bad throw out bearing? Clutches and flywheels?
View 12 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Bearing Noise After Bearing And Transmission Replaced?
I replaced all the bearings and put in a rebuilt transmission and still have bearing like noise , seems like the front, directly increasing with speed . Same in neutral, no change with turning or breaking. Getting worse over the past few months.
View 1 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Dead Ringer For A Throw Out Bearing Noise
20thae with a UR 7lb flywheel and spec stage 3 clutch. Got rid of the dual mass flywheel and installed a lightweight flywheel and spec clutch now i have a god awful noise that is dead ringer for a throw out bearing noise. talked to the spec guy at waterfest today and he told me that the dual mass acts as a dampener and this just doesn't make any sense in my head. touch the clutch pedal in any gear at any speed and the noise disappears.. uy at spec said it was in the trans and the only option was to change for a thicker gear oil. p.s. i took out the clutch and everything back apart and measured everything is oem thickness and the throw out bearing is in good shape.
View 7 RepliesCorolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Throw-out Bearing - Noise Comes And Goes As Clutch Pedal Is Released
Title should say Throw-out bearing aka Release bearing.
I have a 2010 5 speed Corolla CE. Having problems with their Throw-out bearings. At around 8000 miles the sqeaking/chirping noise of the bearing was too much so I brought in it to the dealer to fix. They agreed and made the repair.
Now it is only at 10000 miles (22000km) and I can hear it starting again. Just wondering if it is a common problem?
Noise comes and goes as the clutch pedal is released. If you push it in it will go away. It also will happen in all gears but easiest to hear in neutral.
Ford - F150 :: 1998 - Throw Out Bearing Not Allowing Pressure Plate To Make Proper Contact With Clutch
I have a 1998 Ford F150, Manual transmission. It has set for 1 year. Upon driving it for the first time yesterday, it gradually came to a stop. The clutch never smelled hot or appeared to slip. Today I took the inspection cover off and found a rather large nest has been built in the clutch and pressure plate. My question is could this nest cause the throw out bearing from allowing the pressure plate to make proper contact with the clutch. The truck will move in 1st gear and in reverse as long as there is no resistance against the truck.
View 2 RepliesMercury - Grandmarquis :: 2005 - Transmission Emits Siren-like Sound?
On first start of the day (engine cold), the transmission emits a siren-like sound similar to a hydraulic pump air-bound or cavitating. Sound disappears after first 1 or 2 miles of driving. Does not repeat during the rest of day when engine is warm. Repeats again at first start each morning. Ford dealer check of no value since mechanic could hear nothing with engine warmed up.
View 1 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Chirping Noise Under Boost?
I think my stock DV is going bad, my car makes a weird noise under boost?
1. Only happens when first starting the car after it has been sitting for an hour or a few. (not overnight)
2. Does NOT happen when first start in morning.
3. Goes away after like 5 minutes every time and the normal WHIIISHH sound comes back like it should when I step on the gas.
4. It does not make the sound at idle.
This recording I made was of my car being revved up after it sat for one hour.

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Transmission Wouldn't Engage At All When Tried To Throw It Back Into Gear
The other day my transmission was driving fine, until I stopped to let someone out. When I tried to throw it back into gear, it wouldn't engage at all, just had a slight grind almost like the sound of a chain coming off a bike (so I pushed back in the clutch and parked it). I haven't been having any issues with it nor have I been driving it hard.
View 2 RepliesFord Transmission :: 1994 Explorer - Outer Front Wheel Bearing Noise
I have a 94 Explorer. I recently swapped over from auto to manual hubs. I followed a detailed write-up that I found online. During the process I repacked my outer wheel bearings. Ever since then I hear a grinding noise coming from the front wheels. Sounds like the bearings aren't seated properly. The guide that I followed instructed to torque the spindle nut that sits next the the outer wheel bearing really tight in order to seat the bearing, then loosen it back up and hand tighten it. But when I loosened the spindle nut the wheel bearing would pop back out. What is the best way to get a wheel bearing to stay seated properly?
View 2 RepliesCamry :: 2010 - Top Of Engine Emits A Very Fine Tapping Noise On Idle
Anyway, I recently purchaced (as a 2nd car to the near indestructible 95 camry) a 2010 Altise, 4 cylinder 2.4L engine with multi-point fuel injectors. Runs like a dream, purrs like a kitten, can't fault it.
However, I have noticed that on idle, the top of the engine emits a very fine tapping noise, not majorly prominent, but enough to notice with the hood up and wonder if it's a potential problem.
Have been told that it could just be the multi point injectors, but I'm more concerned that it's a valve / oil pressure thing. No oil warning lights or anything like that appear and oil level is good. Service logs are up to date with last service under warranty being January this year.
Golf IV R32 :: Wheel Bearing Noise Coming
So after doing wheel bearings in the car. both front and back. I'm still getting the "wheel-bearing hum" sound if you will. Don't know how this can be possible with all brand new wheel bearings and hub in the front passenger side. other hubs were fine. I do need tires which will be ordered soon/ alignment im sure.

So after installing the short throw shifter I ran into an issue. My reverse is actually first gear, i do not have second gear, 3-6 work fine so far and i do not have a reverse. also my shifter doesn't seem to move far enough to the left.
We took the short shifter out and put the factory one back in and it still doesn't work. Is it possible for me not to have to take it to VW? i feel like they're going to tell me I need to replace I don't need and how to fix it.
Also, I drive a 2013 jetta GLI but its the same set up for a mk6 GTI....
Golf/GTI VI :: Strut Bearing Noise - Rattles All The Time
This thread is about suspension though. Ever since installing my B&G coils my car has been making all kinds of funny noises. Originally I realized that the the top nuts for my struts were not nearly tight enough... which led to one of my struts having about 6 or 7 threads completely stripped from rubbing against the mount and not being tight. Completely disassembled the front shocks, made sure everything was kosher, and filled the passenger side with some washers before tightening everything down like a mofo (by hand, no air!) a few weeks ago. All was good.
Now, flash forward to now and it rattles all the time. Driving straight is usually when it makes noise. I immediately assumed it was loose top bolts as I had the same noise previously. I went down to buy some loctite and more tools so I could do the fix myself. Upon inspection, the bolts are still tight as hell. Tightening them rotates the spring, I can feel feel it pop if I rotate my ratchet far enough as the spring finally gives from rotation.
I checked the sway bars, axels, etc.... and nothing. I even went so far as to wrap everything down there in blue masking tape, put the wheel back on, drove around a while (made the noise like 20 times) and then jacked the car up to look again... not a single scratch on the tape. Some of it was still not even 100% pressed down. So my axels, sway bar, etc... have nothing to do with this (at least rubbing wise).
After doing all kinds of research both here and in the MKV forum, I've decided that this is probably due to foobar strut bearings. I ordered some SKF ones from DBC and hope that they come soon... but until then I am still uneasy (duh, this car is my life) and can't stop obsessively thinking about it. Now I am beginning to doubt that it is the strut bearings because most people seem to only have the noise issue when turning their wheels. I have the noise issue all of the time, except when I am driving on the freeway.
