Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Installing Short Shifter?

There is only one DIY i can find that is still alive. I have a megan short shifter. Its already half way in. I just don't have any instructions and i am kind of at a loss as to where i go from here. Does this shifter change the way my reverse gear will be engaged? I mean will i need to pull the trigger up to go in reverse or will i still push down? Does the spring that came with the kit go under the sleeve or above it? Sounds confusing.

Golf/GTI VI :: HID Light Throw Narrow Shadow Angled To Right And One To The Left

When my xenon lights are on they throw a shadow out to about 20 feet in front of the car. This is on a golf 2010 TDI.. It is a narrow shadow angled to the right and one to the left.

Is there something wrong with my Lights or do I need to change setting somehow? They are plenty bright but it is odd the lighting in front has this marking in it. BTW the fogs are not on nor does putting them on change this.. Noticed this on low beams and perhaps on high as well..

Golf/GTI VI :: Transmission Emits Chirping Noise - Bad Throw Out Bearing?

I have a '10 manual trans gti. Only 16k miles on it. When starting cold and on an incline/decline at a certain level of clutch play, the transmission emits an odd chirping/whirring noise. Aside from the noise, the transmission is butter.

I brought in into the shop to get inspected and was able to replicate the noise for the technician. His thought was a bad throwout bearing.

Here's where it gets interesting. They quoted me about $600 labor just to confirm the issue. Should it be the throwout bearing, the replacement would be covered under warranty. labor would also be included. However, if they found it to be a wear product it would obviously be on me and stupid expensive.

Some people also thought maybe the clutch plate fingers are slipping? (I don't know that much about cars..)

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Knocking Noise While In Neutral - Bad Throw Out Bearing?

so lately I've been noticing a slight rattling/knocking noise coming from my car while it is in neutral and the clutch is not pushed it. When I push the clutch in, the noise goes away. I've read that this could be a sign of a bad throw out bearing? Is this right? If it is the throw out bearing, how long can I expect until it completely craps out on me? It seems to only do it on cold starts and sometimes on the uneven ground. I figured I should start saving some money to have this done because I'm not comfortable doing it myself.

Some other questions I had is my car is a 24v VR6 and it has 144k original miles. The timing chains and guides have not been replaced (to my knowledge at least). I know that replacing the throwout bearing requires removal of the transmission and so does doing the lower timing chain. If I get my throw out bearing replaced, should I have them do the chains also since they are already in there? I have no noise coming from my chains at all so there are no signs that they are going bad. Also, should I have my clutch replaced while they are in there? Again, no signs of a bad clutch either.

Golf IV R32 :: Shifter Moving Slightly Side-to-side While In Gear - Shifter Cables Need Adjustment?

I recently changed the bushings and installed SS kit. I don't know if this was the case before, but now while in any gear, i can still move it approx half inch to the right and half inch to the left.

I checked everything and all screws are tight. Could it be that the shifter cables need adjustment?

Golf/GTI VI :: Dash Flashes And Throw Half A Dozen Error Messages From ESP To ABS To AFS / Headlight

2010 GTI. Just got back from a business trip, hasn't been started for a week. Turn key, just clicks at me. Dash flashes and threw up half a dozen error messages from ESP to ABS to AFS/headlight. Battery seems fine. I, unfortunately, do not have a windows laptop handy currently so cannot hook up vag-com. Does this sound like a starter? ECU? I do have APR stage I and I was NOT able to access via the cruise control set function which has me worried that somehow it has engaged lock out mode? At this point, I appear to be headed for flatbed, dealer and major wallet damage.

Chrysler - Ptcruiser :: Won't Start Immediately After Short Trip With A Short Stop

2003 PT Cruiser won't start immediately after short trip with a short stop. Always does start after turning the key and holding it to start position. The check engine light is often on and the code is for a cam shaft sensor or resistor sensor. A companion problem is the cruise control. If the check engine light is OFF and I use the cruise control, it works fine for a while and then the check engine light comes on at the same instant the cruise control turns off. Are these 2 issues connected? How much should it cost to have the sensor replaced? The car always stays running once it starts and the problem occurs randomly. What are the consequences of not repairing it?

Golf/GTI VI :: Getting License Plate Lighting Short Error?

I have vagcom and led bulbs in my gti. I turned off the plate light monitoring erased the code and get errors for plate lighting short and the 2 bulb errors. When I put the stock bulbs back I still get plate lighting short error on vagcom but no bulb warnings, why that's happening even though all the lights turn on and function fine?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: All Lights On Dash Flash When Turn The Car Off After Short Drive

I have a 02 golf and it runs great other then the reoccurring problem i have been experiencing. The problem doesn't happen every time i drive my car, but often. When i drive for a short period of time and i park and go to turn the car off, all the lights on the dash flash on and off, and most of my things restart. Some times i will stop at a stop light or sign and the car will just restart and turn off. I know this maybe something very small.

So i was driving home from work yesterday and out of no where i couldnt get the shifter to get over to 1st or 2nd gear. i had to wiggle it around and push down on the shift knob and it eventually went over. Happened a few more times yesterday and like twice on my way to work today. It feels kind of sticky or something, not really moving as freely as it used to. What could be causing this?

Golf/GTI VI :: 2010 - Both Retainers Broken Again - Rear Parcel Shelf Lifter Things Too Short?

I'm talking about the little nylon ropes that lift up the parcel shelf when you open the hatch. On my 2010 the car came off the lot (zero miles) with both retainers broken. Theyve broken again since then and were replaced; I talked to the dealer and there's no preventative fix, just replace them every time they break. Any thoughts? I tried to search this but I think I'm calling the parcel shelf/deck thingy the wrong name...

Golf IV R32 :: Shifter Not Working Smoothly

The car came with a EIP Short Shifter. It is short, but seems to be having some problems. Is it normal to feel like I have to really try and get it into gear? I like being able to shift and not "muscle" it in.

I don't know how to put it. It takes so much effort that in a "track" scenario I do not see how this could even be used. Does that make sense?

A bigger a more worrying problem is that on high rpm shifts (5k+) 3rd gear will sometimes grind unless I REALLY slam dunk it in.

This is keeping me from really "driving" the car. My damn Volvo sedan could be romped on harder. It didn't fight me. Is this some crazy EIP thing?
