Golf/GTI VI :: Get Tyre Pressure Sensor Wire Through Firewall?

Trying, to retrofit the TPMS 'clearing' button for the system that uses ABS. Easy enough to fit the button, but need to run a wire to the ABS module. Took out the glovebox/cubby hole hoping it would reveal where the main wireharness goes through the firewall, but there is a big plastic unit behind the glovebox. It would have made life easier as the ABS is right in front of the glovebox but guess I'll need to take another route.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2002 - Wire Harness Missing In Sunroof

I own a 2002 GTI and my sunroof was damaged beyond repair.

A local headliner shop had a used 2004 Jetta sunroof which he sold to me. The shop owner said everything was in working order with the sunroof except the wire harness that runs to the sunroof was missing the plug since it was cut. He recommended just taking the plug from my GTI sunroof motor and soldering it onto the Jetta motor since it may throw off the "timing" of the sunroof motor and would need to be recalibrated if removed. Keep in mind he is an authorized Webasco dealer so I took him at his word.

I cut my plug off of my GTI sunroof motor harness and began to solder it onto the Jetta sunroof.

I quickly noticed the Jetta sunroof motor had one extra wire (Brown). I didn't think it would be a big deal since my GTI doesn't have 6 wires and only requires 5 so I mounted the new sunroof with the Jetta motor onto the car.

The sunroof retracted back into the "fully open" position and would close but would not go into the "vent" position. Each time I would turn the dial to the "vent" position, the sunroof would slide back into the "fully open" position.

I thought this was a bit strange and now I am beginning to wonder if I need to swap the GTI sunroof motor on my car due to it not have the extra wire or is the Jetta sunroof motor going to work fine but another issue is causing this to happen?

Below are the differences in the two sunroof motors. Both are Bosch products.

Jetta Sunroof Motor - Part Number : GDO 849 696 564

This part has 6 wires that connect to it.

White, Green, Gray, Blue, Purple, and Brown

Where as the GTI has only 5 wires on it.

GTI Sunroof Motor - Part Number : GDO 849 696 566

White, Green, Gray, Blue, and Purple

The difference between the two is the additional BROWN found in the Jetta sunroof motor.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2001 - Hot Plastic Or Wire Smell From Vents

I have an 01 GTI GLX with climatronic, and I've noticed this hot plastic or hot wire smell in the vents. Yes the fan wire gets hot when the car is hot and AC is on. But I don't think that's it. I've torn the passenger side apart, took the blower motor out, not it. The vent / recirculate motor is external to the vents, the only other place is behind the radio for the other one. What else is internal, if anything, that could be causing this smell? I'm concerned that something will melt or burn up.

I've been wondering if the ecm in the cowl would be getting hot but I can't smell anything with the plastics on. I would say it does seem to occur after driving for about ten minutes in town. But it also seems like it's there when I first start it up also.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2005 - O2 Sensor Wire Disappears Above The Heat Shield

Didn't touch the downpipe during engine swap of my BEW TDI.

After swap, have code:

17524 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating; B1 S1

P1116 - 000 - Open Circuit

The O2 sensor wire disappears above the heat shield above the exhaust. I am used to (Audi 1.8T, 2.7T, 2.8) seeing the O2 sensors coming up with plug on firewall.

Where is the O2 sensor wire going to.

I normally by the generic Bosch O2 if the SENSOR is bad (cut and splice), but suspect that maybe the problem (open circuit) is further 'upstream'.

Obviously, I am a TDI (and Golf/transverse engine) newbie, so bear with me.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Turn Signal Wire Repair - Necessary To Remove Grill?

Im switching out the bulbs on the front turn signal light today, I reach my fat little fingers in there and can barely pull off the wire harness that goes into the back of it. When I did this the wire coverings on all three wires just disintegrated I would guess from the heat inside the headlight. Wel there's a short from where they are touching and my signals don't work at all. my question is I can hardly even reach my fingers down in there too remove that wiring harness ( which is the shortest wire ive ever seen) is it necessary for me to remove the grill the front bumper and each headlight in order to access the wires better?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2001 / VR6 - Water In Gas

I just bought a 2001 Jetta with a VR6 with water in the gas. So far I've drained the tank (got probably 20oz of water out of the 3gal of gas) and put in fresh gas, replaced the fuel pump and the spark plugs. When I disconnect the return line I'm now getting nice clean gas but it will not fire. Although it will fire on ether. Anything else i should do? I have the full version of VCDS and am not getting any codes.

Golf/GTI VI :: Draining Water From Air Tank?

I have had my airride for a few months now, and it is time to drain the water from the air tank. I have a water trap that I use every time i fill up at a gas station, but I would like to drain the tank to make sure there is not water built up in there. I have scoured the interwebs and have not came across a video or specific set of instructions on how to do this.

Coil packs 1-6

Cyl 1

Cyl 4

Cyl 6

Yes that's water down there. Cyl 6 coil pack, water was dripping out when I pulled it

Engine running fine, very occasionally it logs a misfire.

No signs of water splashes on engine cover, manifold or sound absorber. When cleaning I only ever wipe the engine cover with a damp cloth NO hosepipe. As far as I can tell there is no coolant loss, however when serviced back in April the coolant needed topping up.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Water In Manual Transmission Oil

Having a problem with water being in the manual transmission oil? I ended up having to drain the oil because 3rd gear started grinding again and it ended up being water in there again. I drained it into a milk jug with the top cut off and let it separate and there was a little over an inch of water in it at the bottom.

Is there possibly a bad deal or something because that seems like way more than a little bit of condensation especially since the oil was changed not too long ago. Also it does not leak anything so I'm not sure where it would be coming from.

Golf/GTI VI :: Water Inside The Housing Of Fog Lights

So it's been raining here a lot on the East Coast lately, especially in NJ and last night after getting out of work there were some few small floods I had to go through in order for me to get back home. This morning as I walked around my car to check if everything was OK I noticed that my fog's has water inside the housing. How do I go about drying them out or should I take it to the dealer and have them fix it for me.

Golf V R32 :: Water In Relay Now A6 DRLs On Constantly

Took the R in the touchless car wash Monday night and immediately drove home and parked in my garage. I went in to eat and came back out into the garage about 2 hrs later and noticed my replica A6 DRLs were on. I noticed that when I shook the wiring they would flicker but stayed on. I took off all the electrical tape and noticed water had somehow made it's way into the relay. I blew air on the relay and the receptacle. I then greased up the relay prongs and plugged it back in and shook the wiring again and the lights still flickered and stayed on. I pulled the relay to keep the DRL off so they wouldn't kill my battery. Hopefully when I plug the relay back in tonight, all the moisture will have dried up and the DRLs will only light up on ignition as their supposed to.

My question is: How do I keep moisture from getting into the relay in the future? I thought it was very well taped up with electrical tape, but water still managed to make it to the relay. I was going to reluctantly wrap the works with Saran Wrap and tape up the ends but that's the kind of ghetto fix that I usually stay away from.

Golf/GTI VI :: Water Dripping From Mirror Housings?

I have a Golf-R with 2500 miles on it and when I finish washing it, water drips from both side mirror housings for a while. I have tried tilting the mirrors up and blowing water out but they continue to drip and leave drip marks down the side of the car, especially if I drive soon afterward.

I had a similar issue on my 2012 Wrangler and I drilled drain holes in the mirror mounts which allowed them to drain quickly. I'm not really wanting to take that approach with the Golf-R.
