Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2001 - Gas Tank Won't Fill Up?
I had a new Fuel Pump put in the cheaper plastic one into my 2001 F250 5.4 with a 112,000 miles.
Problem I am having since getting it back is when filling the gas tank up it will shut the pump off at 3/4 tank. I then have to sit there playing the squeezing game to get more gas in. The vent line looks fine no kinks in it and the tank looks level so what could be the issue causing me this headache?

Just got back from a 2500 mile trip and the 800 mile DEF warning came on. Went to a DEF pump but it just filled the neck. Went to another DEF pump, same . Went home and used a Ford DEF jug with the Ford spout. It still will not go in. If I squeeze the jug, I can hear a little bit dropping into the tank.
The vent and fill pipes are not kinked. The vent hole in the fill tube looks clear. I washed off the top of the tank since there is a vent there.
Still no fill. I do not have a bore scope to look in the fill tube. I ran a 1/2 inch flexible hose down the fill tube until it stopped. Still no fill.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: V10 Runs Rough With 1/2 Tank Of Gas
My truck started running poorly with an intermittent miss about 6000 miles ago. The miss gets more consistent when the tank is below 1/2. Fill it up and the miss goes away. No codes, shop that does a lot of V10 camper work could not figure it out.
My guess is that the fuel pump is going out and it overheats when the tank is low. The problem is getting progressively worse. Now it misses slightly with 3/4 tank and even a full tank sometimes.
Plugs have been changed, fuel filter has been changed, and the shop found 3 COPs that were bad before all this new intermittent miss started. The truck runs ok at wide open throttle.
Am I just nursing a bad fuel pump that will leave me standed soon? Truck has 170,000 mile with original fuel pump.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2015 - Fuel Tank Size?
It doesn't say on the window and in the owners manual I should have a 23 or a 35. The most I've put in my truck is 29.somthing and I had 3 miles till empty and the needle was in the red. I'm thinking I have a 30 gallon tank but how can I find out for sure.

I have a 99 F350 with a 29 gallon tank. I filled it up yesterday and the total gallons was a little over 24. The low fuel light was on and the gauge only goes up to almost 3/4. I recently bought this truck. I've searched for a thread on here possibly addressing this but have been unable to find one. I've been going through possible issues in my head.... What the problem is?

I have a 2012 f250 6.2L gas that the check engine light, low fuel light and the fuel gauge says it's empty. The truck has a full tank of gas. I am in camp for another 2 weeks and my girlfriend is driving the truck. I am thinking a blown fuse or disconnect the battery to reset the computer could solve it. Hoping it's something I can instruct her to do on her own over the phone.

I've been looking at adding an additional diesel tank to my F-250, since the stock tank only holds some 38 gallons. However, I do not want to lose the space on the bed and have been looking at tanks that are mounted under the bed.
Most tanks I see are welded steel, completely overkill and accordingly priced. I'm wondering if a second stock tank pulled from a junkyard might fit in well, but haven't lowered mine yet to check the complete dimensions.

As I was driving to work yesterday I noticed my fuel gauge going from half tank all the way to full going down the highway. I started looking at the rest and they seem to be in there normal spots. I looked up and watched the outside temp go from 40 degrees to 5. This morning the fuel gauge goes straight to full and the outside temp bounces between 2 degrees and 10. What may be going on to cause this?

I am a little skeptical of this, but someone told me that since I got water in the gas tank of my 2003 F250 I should blow compressed air into the schrader valve on the fuel rails to eject it all into a bucket under the disconnected fuel filter.

My stock OEM fuel tank has a crack in it. I've got to replace it. I was thinking of getting a TransferFlow replacement tank. It would nearly double my capacity. My wife wants me just to go stock to save the money, but I'm thinking the extra capacity would be nice. One thing that did concern me, however, is how much my fuel efficiency might diminish because of the extra weight of the tank (150 lbs) plus fuel. Since it is a gas truck, not many options.
View 8 RepliesFord Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Truck Was Originally Burping Coolant Out Of The Overflow Tank
So I have been troubleshooting a few cooling issues and I am currently at a loss of WTF is going on with this thing. The truck is a 99 5.4L SD and has no heat and was burping a little coolant.
The truck was originally burping coolant out of the overflow tank. After verifying that it was not a head gasket by all means except the exhaust gas test. I replaced the overflow tank and cap.
Now the truck is holding pressure fine but I do not have heat. Here is what I have done:
I replaced the blend door actuator--no heat
I went to flush the heater core and since the quick disconnects were such a bitch to get off I decided ti replace it while I was at it. --still no heat,
New thermostat 195 deg --no heat
The radiator is brand new
Supposedly the water pump was replaced by the previous owner I have all the receipts for the truck so I could double check
Truck seems to circulate coolant fine i measured temps at the water outlet with an IR thermometer peaking at about 175~10 deg due to accuracy of the thermometer and heat loss due to thermal variations the lower radiator hose and reservoir coolant temps were around 76~10 degrees so the radiator is working as advertised . Truck doesn't overheat, granted after draining and replacing the coolant the temp gauge did climb some while driving until i worked out all the air pockets but still didn't overheat.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: After Auxiliary Tank Added Truck Runs Then Dies Out
I bought a 2003 F550 Super Duty 4WD, cab and chassis truck. It has a 7.3 TD. Real nice truck. I bought it to turn it into a wrecker. I removed the factory fuel tank (was behind the real axle inside the frame rails.) I installed a 50 gallon aluminum tank behind the cab on the frame rails. The rear tank has to be removed for the wheel lift.
Any way I have everything installed and now the truck dies out after a few minutes. It starts up fine then dies out like its starving for fuel. The tank I installed has a sump pickup (tank came off a freightliner, so its not some home made thing I just welded up in the garage)
I was thinking about installing an auxiliary lift pump as the auxiliary tank is a bit higher than the factory tank, but I want to solve the issue not throw parts at it. I thought at first injectors but it runs perfect after I prime it so my guess is its not the injectors.

View 3 RepliesFord Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2003 F250 V10 - Fuel Smell / Gas Tank Vent Leak
New to me 2003 F250 Super Cab 6.8 V10. Great condition inside and out. 68,000 miles. Began smelling fuel (gas) a few days after driving it 250 miles from purchase location. Traced leak down to the top of the gas tank. Staining was visible around the rear vent. Applied about 5 psi to the tank and sprayed soap around until I saw bubbles coming from a hairline crack at the rear vent connection. Its where the fitting for the hose comes out of the tank.
My first choice would be to hot weld the crack. I'm not very comfortable with the idea of a heat source near a gas tank. I'm not sure, but the heat from the plastic welder might be hot enough to ignite fumes? Second option is to try some industrial 2 part epoxy (PIG) and seal it with that. Is there pressure inside the tank, and if so how much? Can try this fix with epoxy or JB Weld?
