Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2011 - Groaning Noise While Turning
So one of two things is happening:
1. I'm paranoid because I just bought my 2011 3.5 Eco 4x4 a month ago and every little thing I hear go bump I stress over...
Or...
2. I've got a control arm/U-joint issue.
When I make turns beyond say 20 degree wheel turn (so almost 90% of turning distances) I hear a groaning type sound coming from the truck. Sounds like it's located in the front suspension area. Sounds like the sound is following the rotation of the wheels though if you can visualize what I mean.
I've had new tires put on since I bought it Oct. 5th but just noticed the noise about a week or two ago. No other work done since purchasing.
Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2012 - Rubbing / Grinding Sensation While Turning
I've owned this 2012 Lariat 5.0 for about 6 months (has 49,500 miles on it, approx 6000 are mine).
For awhile, I had kinda thought I sensed a slight vibration/grinding when making right-hand turns. But it seems to be getting more noticeable now. It does not happen with every RH turn, but its not all that rare of an occurrence either. (Does NOT happen with LH turns.)
In addition ............ possibly related, sometimes while breaking, I get a somewhat similar grinding sensation, just before coming to a stop. Again, it does not happen every time.
I tend to think both of these could be a brake issue, but wondered if anything in the driveline could be contributing ? (I should note that I'm in 2-High)
Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2010 - Rubbing / Grinding Noise From Rear End
Just got a 2010 lariat supercrew...I put 1900 miles on it so far. When slowly letting off the accelerator (doing between 20-30 mph and between 1000-1500 rpm) there is a distinct rubbing sound for about 1-2 seconds...it is now sounding more like grinding now...took it to the shop today...(they couldn't duplicate (because service rep documented 60 mph instead of the 20-30 mph...went back at the end of the day to ride with the tech, and i was able to duplicate so now they have something to work with....also the noise happens mostly when the path of travel is either level road or slight to great incline..it has not happened on a down slope....
View 14 RepliesFord F-150 (2009-2014) :: Rubbing Noise And Vibration Coming From Right Front Wheel
I have noticed recently that I have a "rubbing" noise and vibration coming from the right front wheel on my FX4. It is most noticeable from 5-10 MPH, and more pronounced when turning right. it is not constant. It sounds almost like a brake pad rubbing on a badly warped, wet rotor. It goes away when I apply the brakes. I am thinking bearing or possible CV joint.
The dealer can't get it in until Tuesday, and they say I will have to pay the deductible on the ESP, even if it is related to the steering vibration they could not replicate or fix about a month ago. I am seriously considering going to another dealer for my service. Given, they did absorb the deductible last time, but they didn't fix the problem!
Chevrolet - Malibu :: Growling / Rubbing Noise Coming From The Front Of Car
I have a 4 cyl. '99 Chevy Malibu with 137K. Two weeks ago she started making a growling/rubbing noise coming from the front of the car. If I steer even a little to the right the noise goes away. If the steering wheel is straight or turned to the left the noise persists. The noise is always present, except when turning to the right and at when I slow to stop there becomes a slight oscillation in the noise.What is it? Is it hard to repair? I typically change my own brakes, alternator, tie-rods, and simpler car repair tasks.

I have a 2011 Ford FX4. Lately when I start up the truck I get a grinding type noise that seems to be coming from the 4X4 RCS module in the engine compartment. It stops after about 20 seconds or when I put the truck in gear and start driving. It happens every time I start the truck now.

I have a 4x4 2011 5.0 f150 with 65k miles. Bought it 4 months ago. I have noticed it makes a swoosh or air sucking noise for a couple of seconds after acceleration and will do it while driving. It is not constant but comes and goes. I have not checked codes. Other than that, really like the truck.
View 2 RepliesFord F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2011 - Loud Grinding Noise From Front End Of The Truck
Today I was out getting lunch in my Ecoboost When it started making an extremely loud grinding noise from the front end of the truck. My first thought was I blew a turbo. After holding the break and building boost I discovered it was not the source of the noise. Also the truck runs perfect and there is no smoke. I then took it to my friends auto shop and pulled both front tires off to check and see if anything break related came loose. We found nothing. The noise only happens upon acceleration or cruising throttle, as soon as you let off the sound goes away. So after I found nothing I took it to ford and what would cause that, but they assured me that they would have my truck for a long time while they figure out the issue.

I recently replaced my pads and rotors. The driver side was no problem, but on the passenger side, when I was finished, the caliper was rubbing up against the rim of the tire. I took both tires off to compare the differences, I noticed that my passenger side caliper is not going down as deep on the pads as the driver side. The caliper on the passenger side depressed with no problems and had no problems fitting over the pads. Whats really confusing is that all of my bolt holes line up.
View 11 RepliesToyota - Camry :: 2009 - Rubbing Or Grinding When Turning
I have a 2009 Toyota Camry with approx 124K miles on it (my daily commute isn't that great...). Lately I've noticed some vibrations or rubbing when I'm turning:
There is a constant rubbing/grinding noise when turning. It is more obvious when I turn right. It is definitely coming from the front tires. It does not sound like metal at all. Just like a rubbing noise, that causes a slight vibration up front.
When I'm driving straight, at a certain speed, I notice the vibration/rubbing sound, but it eventually blends in with the sound of the road. The ride isn't bumpy at all, so I don't think it's related to the struts. When I pull out of a parking place, turning left, it just feels "loose", if that makes any sense.
From what I've been reading, it seems to lean towards a bad wheel bearing, or CV issues. What the problem could be?
Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2011 - Grinding Noise / High Pitched Squeal On Front End?
This evening, my F150 with 2,600 miles developed a high pitched squeal, much like you might experience on an older vehicle with failing front brakes. Yes, that same squeal/grind the brakes make...metal on metal. It came in instantly while at highway speeds. It was VERY loud. The pitch didn't really change with speed...it was pretty consistant going slow or fast. There was no vibration, chatter or growl as I would expect with a failing bearing.
It was definately in the driveline/brakes. I was 10 miles away from a friends house, so I turned around and took it back to his place. Shortly after turning around, it quieted, only sounding when I would turn ( like a wheel bearing would when being side loaded ). I looked at the brake disks, thinking something was grinding on one of them. The outsides of the disks looked fine. Due to the shields on the inside, I couldn't see.
Later in the evening, I had to drive it back home, about 50 miles. Again, it was quiet unless turning fairly hard. By the time I got home, the squeal had turned into an intermitant growl/thump, as if a warped rotor was banging on the caliper. The noise was 1 to 1 with the rotation of the driveline. But still no vibration. Brakes work perfectly and the noise doesn't change with brake use. Backing up and turning hard results in a variety of sounds, including squeaks.
The hubs and CV joints felt cool. The brake disks were not hot as if they were dragging.
It is 4x4 / 3.7l
Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2011 2WD - Grinding Noise From Driver Side Front Tire
I have a 2wd 2011 F150 90K with grinding noise coming from the drivers side front tire. Even though it was happening when coasting I thought it might be pads but they are real good. Turning the hub with no tire on it I can hear a little grinding. So I suspect bearings. I want to remove the hub but can't find out how to pull that off.
Where I would expect to find a spindle nut there is an area where it looks like you put a puller in. Can't find any videos or other information on the "Internets". Maybe I'm the first to have bad bearings? Anyway, how to remove the hub?
Camry :: 2009 - Metal Rubbing Sound When Turning Left
I have a 2009 Camry that makes a metal to metal rubbing noise when turning left. t is coming from the Front Right passenger side. I recently changed out the bearing and hub on the front right but I still have the noise when turning left. Also, when driving normally and going straight there seems to be somewhat of a dull click click click noise.

I have a 2011 F150 FX4 with the traction control. When the tires spin (like taking off on a hill in the rain - that's when i noticed it) and I let off to let everything settle down, I hear a rattling kind of noise coming from the middle dash area, maybe on the engine compartment side of the firewall. It sounds like a rubber ball in a box being jostled around. What this might be?

View 1 RepliesElantra MD (2010-15) :: 2014 - Front End Growling Noise
Last week I heard my front end start growling and figured it was a bearing. I bought bearings and when I tore the front end down the left (driver) side felt fine when I had the knuckle out. I changed it anyhow. The right side felt kinda OK and I changed it. I've got a press and made sure not to press on the wrong parts. When I took it for a drive the noise is actually worse now. It's got all the standard bearing symptoms. It get louder the faster I drive and changes when I swerve back and forth. I put the car back on the jack and noticed I could wiggle the wheel a bit. I pulled the wheel and the spindle was able to wiggle. I figured maybe the axle nut was a little loose and I was able to get about 1 more turn on it. That took out the wiggle but the noise is still there. Did I get 2 bad bearings or did I do something wrong?
View 13 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: Major Dragging And Rubbing Noise In 4WD When Turning
I've looked at several threads but no one describes my exact problem. The issue started suddenly. When I am in 4WD and turn (does not have to be sharp) there is a dragging and rubbing noise. It drags hard enough that it will stop the truck.
Sounds like the brakes engaging and rubbing. I can not see any foreign material wrapped up anywhere. The 4WD appears to be engaging properly and the IWE appear to be working. I can "stomp on it" in a straight line and throw mud with no crazy noises and get a rooster tail from the front end.
I've got about 15000 on new brakes and rotors. Ceramic pads and lifetime rotors all the way around.
Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2011 F150 - Wind Noise / Whistle Coming From Driver Side Door
I purchased a new 2011 F-150 Lariat, Ecoboost, SCrew, 4x4 last weekend. I love the truck. It is very comfortable, the Ecoboost has been incredible, and the ride is very nice. I am looking forward to towing my ATVs after I hit 1000 miles.
Yet, I have one problem. I get an incredible amount of wind noise and wind whistle from what appears to be the driver's door. I read other posts about wind noises and wind whistles (e.g., bug shield), but they do do not apply to me.
I'm planning on dropping it off at the dealership this week for them to take a look at.
