Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2000 - Service Engine Soon Light Came On?
The Service Engine Soon light has come on on my 2000 F-150 with a 4.6L when I was driving home in the rain. It has about 120,000 miles on it now. What are some of the main reasons why this comes on? Oxygen Sensors?

2001 F150, 5.4L gas, 4wd, stock, 217k miles, auto trans. Bought it used about 4 years back.
Currently away from home base. Left Saturday for a 600+ mile trip. All fluid levels are good. Truck has been reliable. No major issues other than an alarm malfunction a while back which got sorted.
About 90 miles into the trip down the highway, the service engine light comes on. Hmm. At the next fuel stop I tanked up. Started and it was a bit rough the first few seconds and then settled. Seemed to have an engine noise I had not heard before.
Pulled over in the station and popped the hood. Oil good. Coolant fine. Power steering fine. Listening to it I could definitely hear an unusual sort of "ghost" like sound. Hard to describe. Sort of like a low "woooooo." It was low, but definitely there and not normal. Could be unrelated to the engine light. Pulling out of the station the sound varied and got louder with slight acceleration. Possibly beginning of an accessory bearing meltdown?
No acceleration or dying issues. Got back on the highway and kept on trucking for 600+ miles. No running issues. No shifting issues. Ghost noise not noticed at highway speeds.
The power steering pump is probably in need of replacement at this point with this mileage. It does drip slightly, but not a lot. It may be the original pump for all I know. Same with the water pump.
The alternator was replaced last year with a Bosch unit. I have never replaced the O2 sensors. Stock exhaust. Spark plugs were replaced a while back with Motorcraft platinums.
It is now Sunday night and I went out to listen for the sound, and it is not there anymore, but the service engine light is still on. First things to check with a truck that has 217k miles on it?
Was tempted to bring it to the dealer here, but it seems to be running ok in spite of the light coming on. So I may leave it until I get back home and check it more myself then. Can't do much here since I don't have my tools/service manuals etc with me.
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: OD Off Light On The Shift Selector Blink / Service Engine Soon Light Comes On
I have a 1999 F-150 w/ 4.2 V6. and auto trans, truck has 219,000 miles on chassis but only 25,000 on engine and 10,000 on trans. I've been getting obd codes p0705 and p0715. I replaced the position sensor on outside of trans. but I continue to get the codes off and on again. I noticed that the O/D "OFF" light on the shift selector blinks simultaneously when the "service engine soon" light comes on. I've noticed that there is no low gear unless I have it in D from a dead stop, and not even when downshifting manually.

The Service Engine Soon light is on in my 2001 F-150. I checked the code and got PO156 generic O2; circuit (bank 2, sensor 2). What are the most common things I should look at? The truck appears to be running fine, no driveability issues.

View 4 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Engine Service Light - Codes P0171 And P0174
2001 F150 5.4L Triton Motor. Everything seemed o.k. then got the Engine Service Light. Checked with reader and above codes only appeared. Read numerous articles/videos and pulled the PCV hose/boot assembly and replaced the whole thing with oem part. Visually checked for disconnected tubing = none found. After this and with the new hose assembly in place I performed a reset. With the scanner still connected restarted engine and read values: ST FTRM1&2 = -.08~+2.3, both oxygen sensor voltages are varying and the LT FTRM1&2 hang around +26 and +28.
From what I understand the ST seems o.k. but the long term is WAY OUT OF WHACK. Started it up again and took carb cleaner spray and covered all the connections I could see = no change in engine rpm. No cracks in the air cleaner body. Big plug to the MAF was inserted and plugging the hole. I am thinking of making a smoke "machine" and trying that or removing the hoses from the throttle body and plugging the holes in the throttle body and see if that clears them up. IF it does then connect one by one and keep checking the values. Lot more work but I am at a loss.
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Service Engine Light Came On - EGR Replacement Code P0402
Last week my service engine light came on. Friend checked it with his code reader. Got a P0402 code insufficient flow EGR valve. I have read several different threads on this subject on another Ford truck forum, slightly confusing me. Should I trust the code and just replace the EGR valve or do a number of other things that
1. Clean the throttle body first?
2. Test the EGR valve by blanking it off?
3. Test the DPFE valve?
4. Replace the DPFE valve instead of the ERG valve since the EGR valve rarely goes bad?
5. Only get OEM parts since after market parts do not last?

I have a little more detail on when the truck starts and does not . I have gone out the past two days and put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position and all the lights come on except Service Engine Soon light and truck will not start. I bought a ceramic electric heater and placed it on the floor directing the heat under the dash. after ten to fifteen minutes I go out and put the key in the ignition turn the key to the on position and the service engine soon light is on and the truck starts right up. I let it warm up for about a half hour and then shut it off. I then try to start it right back up and the service engine soon light comes on momentarily then goes off and the truck does not start?

My trucks symptoms include a illuminated service engine soon light, sometimes a high rpm idle, and sometimes a rough erratic idle. When a scan was done it indicated the oxygen sensor was defective. The issue is: which specific one (there are multiple oxygen sensors) or how could I check or determine the faulty one for sure. I am trying to economize and replace only the bad one myself if possible. I own a good multimeter, can it determine the bad one? 1999 F-150 4.2 Litre V6 oxygen sensor dillemna....

View 5 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2000 V6 - ABS Light Came On / Engine Cutting Out
I have a 2000 - F150xlt - 4.2L - V6:
Today while leaving work for lunch I started the engine and suddenly the ABS light came on and the engine cut out before I put it in gear. Then as I was driving each time it cut out the ABS light came on. So I stopped at the convenience store across the street from work to get some gas thinking it was low although it had a 1/4 tank. But after filling up it would not start. Then relay #2 began clicking in the fuse panel and would not stop whether the key was on or off. Several minutes of this went on and then I pressed the brake peddle in once more and everything on the dash lighted up, the dials fluttered around, the clock came back on, etc...
So I tried starting the engine again and suddenly everything started working and the engine started up. I drove it home and it ran fine with no issues, no cutting out or anything. After lunch I tried it again to head back to work and the truck would not start again. But this time there was no clicking from relay #2. Everything was dead until I pumped the brake peddle several times with the key off and then turned key in the ignition and then it started right up and drove like normal. Why it's doing this and what to check to fix it?
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2000 - Won't Start When Put The Ignition In On Position
Have 2000 Ford XLT Extended Cab 4x4 with 5.4. It will not start. Put the ignition in on position and can't hear the fuel pump running. Fuse Okay, Relay OK. Does this year have A Fuel Pump Driver Module? If so, where is it located? I know where they are located on 2004 and up but not mine. If I have to change out Fuel pump, is it easier to pull the tank or the Bed?

I have 06 XLS with 56,000 miles and about 3 weeks ago the check engine and VSC lights came on. It was fixed, a ignition coil on the 4 cylinder.
Now driving home today the check engine and VSC lights are on again! I was wondering should try to get the dealer to replace all the remaining ignition coils ?
Plus I read their was some type of manufacturer defect on the original ignition coils from the factory. Why Toyota won't recognize this issue ?
Two ignition coils in a little over a month . My first Toyota and I'm rolling with the punches .
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Power To Coils And PCM But No Distribution
I have a 97 F150 with the 4.6L and a 4x4 auto transmission that I got it on a trade. I was told the packs were shorted (he had a diagnostic write up as proof) so I replaced them and still no spark. It has the 4 plug packs. I checked every fuse and relay twice and the PCM and packs are getting power I also checked them with a multimeter and they're getting a 12v feed in the distribution box and the packs have 12v on the hot wire. There's something keeping it from firing the distribution wires and I'm kinda stumped. Also the MIL comes on and sometimes go off and I tried to scan tool it but it says it can't connect.
View 8 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2000 - Check Engine Light Came On / Truck Started Shaking
I have a 2000 f150 4x2 5.4 168k... Check engine came on,started shaking, weather was really cold. RPM would be a little high then low then back up. Especially when I turned on heater. Felt like truck would die but never does nor does it have issue starting.
So far, I have replaced two oxygen sensors inside engine,all coils, spark plugs, fuel filter, had injectors cleaned, intake cleaned. Truck runs better but, light came on a day later again. I can feel the tiniest of shaking going on and, cold mornings still make RPMS a little unstable. I was driving truck on highway at about 60 mph when a slight tug was felt and Truck check engine came on. I feel truck heavy, once it warms up completely, a little lighter.
Codes came up at auto zone as P1151
But I'm running out of options and frankly, money to fix this truck.
Checked the MAF and looked okay.
I'm with minimal skills.
